"rider23: I was botting 20hrs/day, on 4 accounts, all banned (+1 extra!) for 2 weeks. 2 remain. Now, without botting I have no other way to make isk and get plexes for all accounts even for my main. So there is no way to play for FREE. FREE? Hmm, seems that CCP have problems with their funding to support company, servers, etc.
So, I will let them eat my s**t, and on my 2 remaining unblocked accounts I have started the process to return all characters to the virtual biomass, where they virtually came from. Subscriptions already canceled."

I dont think the Blogger's math is correct. He states
"CCP Sreegs stated he expected to seize 100 billion isk a day from botting accounts. But how much money is that really? Using the average sales price in The Forge in March 2012, it converts to 205 PLEX. Over a month, that is 6,150 PLEX, or over $107,000. That sounds like a lot, but is it in the context of Eve Online? Here are some other figures that puts CCP Sreegs expectations into perspective."
From my calculations with PLEX average at around 450 mil each at 205 per day... thats about 92bil... not too far off for Sreegs. If EvE WiS is Space Barbie, then I'm built like a Ken Doll:

And you never know, perhaps a few of the freetards out there might just start learning about opportunity costs and there won't be quite as much stuff on the market below mineral costs. I totally agree. While I'm not loving the higher prices I have to pay for everything, I know it is for the best and the old cheap prices were artifical. In fact, I'm actually considering mining and producing some of my own equipment. Who knows, I might even start making extra to sell for profit. |

What I am expecting to see is BS and heavier ships becoming so valuable that they become closely guarded - Warping away any time they come up against heavy opposition. Not unlike First- and Second-Raters in the naval engagements of the Napoleonic Wars. Any time one side was getting beatten too badly, they'd break contact and stand off.
In those days, the real action was with the Third-Raters and below; The 64 gun ships of the line (Think battlecruisers and heavy cruisers'), the Heavy Frigates (Old Ironsides - Light cruisers, effectively), and the lesser-rated ships.
All the really gung-ho officers wanted to sail a well-found frigate; First- and Second-Raters were boring. Not to mention, also not particularly good at getting the prize money.
May we see that day return to EVE? I hope so! |

You could PI like a boss with 4 accounts, 12 toons total doing it and make enough to support a PVP habit that eats up BCs and BSs and maybe spend two hours every few days tops on it all totally legit. To me that sounds much better then botting 4 accounts 23/7 and always looking over my shoulder. The smart ones will stop doing it now. Unfortunately I think you have to be a total idiot to want to do bot in the first place. Which is why people still keep getting banned. Botting ruins games. Look at most dead/near dead games. What do they all have a lot of? Bots. I of course have no proof/facts to back up the last statement but is sounds good so whatever. I doubt it will happen, but I think New Eden would be an interesting place if protecting mining ops wasn't about the ISK/h but became a necessity on an alliance level to keep the mineral flow for your sov warfare going.

Unless I added up the wrong column, the average amount paid for a PLEX in The Forge in the month of March was 486,879,049 isk. Now that all the video cards are sold, maybe the price will go back down to 450 million.

I don't mind high mineral prices, since if the market is healthy (which it isn't with bots), it will find balance in time. What i like are the banning wawes. If it will result in more cooperation in alliances when pvp corps will provide protection and some support services for indy corps paying isk and ships in return, the better. As regards plex prices, well, right now i pay for 2 accounts and even though i may pay for one and sometimes both with isk, i simply choose not to because i feel like ccp is really caring about the game. May not mean much, but i suppose happy customer paying with real money is allways more than a puppet master (botter) paying nothing for dozens of his accounts. |

Keep it up For those complaining about how this is causing inflation: It's not. It's removing an artificial source of deflation and the prices are returning to the levels they are supposed to be at. All is well, especially if you're an ethical miner or producer, since you no longer have to compete with cheating smacktards.

We might have higher mineral prices, but I'd rather see a bunch of cheating smacktards cry and have to pay more for ships than the game go into a downward spiral because prices are artificially low, we're all paying the same prices effectively and industry has been given a shot in the arm after being bled dry by entitled little cliff dwellers who don't even play the game.
In the short term it's painful on the wallet, in the long term it's better for the game. If the Sims all became zombies it would be easy to escape them, just shove them in a room and make them answer the telephone. |

I do not think so. They will try a second time and get their second strike. CCP already said that only 4% of the initial offenders take it to strike 3. So their punishment system is already to 96% effective. |

It is, and a complete cess pool, do yourself a favour and don't look at local if you go there. You might wish to avoid it after the 28th. Eh, sometimes I don't have the time to mine, but when I'm offline, I always have some skill with a long training time going, so it's all good. As much as I like making a quick buck, I like to do it honestly and learn all the tricks of the trade. An advice. If one day you'll go to Jita, NEVER, EVER TRUST OR BELIEVE what you read. ANYTHING said in that chat WILL get your money. ANYONE opening a trade to you there will replace the item you want with a piece of rubbish in 1/100 second while you push the trade button. The two week ban by itself may not do anything, but also take away the money made while botting and flag their accounts so they can't transfer characters? That hurts them. Here's a quote from a botter:
Bot User wrote:I don't know if they realize it but putting wallets into negative is pretty much a 1-strike policy. There is no way people are going to try and work their way out of a 10-20bil negative wallet. And since you can't upgrade your clone, make contracts, or do anything really, that account is essentially dead. I can understand the no trading characters after a ban, but if they want to try and make players good after a ban and keep them, they would take away assets on the 2nd or 3rd strike.

Definitely looking forward to the dev blog on this - I'm expecting graphs on assets removed, the effects on resource utilization, character age, specific dates of mass banning, correlations to prices and market activity, etc. I'd also like to see some details on the methodologies used, but I'm going to guess that they want to keep most of that secret.
An Eve without rampant botting is certainly a better Eve. The market will sort itself out - it always does. Soon it will be time to start dumping mineral stockpiles as people start mining again. CCP Sreegs is my favorite developer. |
