Compared to mining Pyroxers in a covetor. You pull about an extra 5 mil an hour in the hulk (ll 5's) compared to a covetor.
That.s a lot of mining.

I don't quite understand your point but would say your 50 hours are off.
At the moment a can of veldspar is worth about 7 mill isk putting it above kernite in value per can. It's been a long time since I mined in a hulk with fleet/orca bonuses but when I did I'm pretty sure I was pullling at least 4 cans an hour.
Let's assume I'm wrong and it was 3 cans that's 21 mill an hour and your hulk is paid for in around 16 hours and if I'm right 4 cans an hour gives you 28 mill and the hulk is paid for in about 12 hours.
Either of those is no where near your over exaggerated 50 hours..

I am comparing mining pyroxers in a hulk with all 5's to a covetor with all 5's. Pyroxers are currently the best hisec belt roids (not anomaly/plex). You make aprox. 5.2 mil an hour more in a hulk than a covetor.
If you switched from an all 5 covetor to an all 5 hulk, it would take you 50+ hours to make the price difference.
Turns out it wasnt exaggerated at all.
Just putting the information out there for all the miners and gankers.
The miners so they can protect their wallets (they wont), and the gankers so they can enjoy the tears more.

Either of those is no where near your over exaggerated 50 hours.. V. The number is right. Last night did we mine 3 belts with 9 miners and pulled in 514m ISKs worth of ore or on average 11m ISK/h. We used two orcas, one for holding the other for hauling, several Hulks, two Covetors, one Retriever. A fully fitted Hulk, which includes T2 rigs, costs you 500m ISKs.
You need to include the time to haul the ore and you cannot just take the numbers of your strip miners and ignore the rest of the work. Nor can you cherry-pick a belt for pyroxeres or you will have to move from belt to belt and search where there is some left. And cans do not work with all the can flippers. You then need to move it all to Jita or sell it for less locally. |

50 hours to replace a hulk, 5 minutes to replace a destroyer and the only thing that makes it longer is the 15 minute GCC window (you cannot dock, reship, and then undock expecting to warp off - ANY ship you jump into during GCC cannot warp and gets station gunned to death). so yeah, good reason that the hulk could use a buff since its more investment to replace then a destroyer but blows up even fast then it takes to replace a destroyer.
But who cares, lets just leave it as is and party like its 1999 until the end of the year. Burn those mining vessels and don't let any miner near an asteroid. |

Back in my day hulks cost 400 mill so I wouldn't be complaining about the cost to replace a hulk. But I would be happy to gank it for you. We take a loss too and its just for the kill mail. Destroyers - Buffed = 2x pocket rocket catalyst banging poor fitted hulks for 5 million Tornado - 1400mm love rod comming your way, but wait there is more! Dude just has to bring a friend!
Don't matter what you do dipship, solo or in a team a hulk will die to a determined individual or a small party. If you can't kill it, you either gave up because you are a risk adverse ***** that didn't want to lose a Tornado or 3 in your gang to CONCORD because the destroyer is so much cheaper and/or your connection went down just as you started locking. I am betting more the first option for you though, because so many players shoot hulks because they require less effort then ganking a Dominix or Raven mission running ship with **** mods of no value. You ever see Mission-ageddon? No, because it requires you to lose more then the hulk pilot then a destroyer, who may be trying to recover the isk he spent on the second hulk after losing the first one...only to lose it possibly with in the first week of getting it requiring the purchase of a third hulk, valued far higher then any other T2 ship excluding battleships. You on the other hand, easily recovered your destroyer from the first kill from a cargo expander or strip miner while looking for another hulk. You are never inconvenienced out side a sec hit, the miners are always inconvenienced as it takes 4 months to fly a hulk well, 4 months of subscription, and its oblitterated by a dude flying a throw away destroyer that requires 2 days effort to train into.
But if you want to continue to say "fit tank mods" then you must mean "Player is responsible" for the result that happens...here please sign this "Un-nerf Titans to January 2012 and make Super Carriers act like after Dominion" so we can get more Whinebears that belive their ****** battleship blobs are supposed to defeat cap ships and they have to take responsibility for losing because they don't have a cap ship of their own. Remember, the player has to take the appropriate actions to not lose...so CCP doesn't have to step in by nerfing them and fix the problem other players will encounter with cap ships.
But you were selectively reading, decided to edit it out the second paragraph and forgot how I suggested you don't give up. BURN THOSE ******* SHIPS AND POD THOSE MINERS! THEY DESERVE TO DIE.
Also, lets get CCP to reduce the extra PG / CPU for other T2 ships to make it difficult to fit 1600mm plates and medium sized guns (not cruiser gun, the middle selection of any gun size. You know, the combat ones that get a really nice damage bonuses AND really nice hitpoints without having to sacrifice for one or the other to much...unless you really want a massive wall of hitpoints for your armor tank but then again you can still fit guns without compromising that much. Miners...will always die to a determined individual...you think 1899 hitpoints to shield with a 37.5% resist bonus to shields isn't a ******* joke? I would never want to structure tank, BECAUSE THATS THE LAST BARRIER.....wait you know what...nerf the **** out of damage controls. Its too over powered, it gives 60% resist T2 for 1 cap while energized nano armor and invulnerables give a fraction of that...plus we need to get people of that ******* crutch so all ships die faster (this is a buff to miners, as they have higher demand for minerals AND a buff to gankers since the hulk will die even faster now! WIN / WIN!!! )
edit: I also have not flown a hulk (didn't lose it as well) since a month before the first hulkageddon was announced, because I know the ship was trash. |

Passive alignment doesn't do anything except show your enemy where you want to warp off to. From 0 velocity you will warp in any direction at the same speed. If you meant active alignment, then consider that most miners will not even stop being afk nevermind constantly change flight directions around an asteroid.

Assuming you mine 5mil/hour with a Hulk and that the Hulk costed you 260mil, it will take 52 hours to recuperate the ISK spent.
Assuming one only spends 2 hours on average per day, assuming you have a life, it will take 26 days or less than one month to complete the 52 hours of mining at 5mil/hr.

That.s a lot of mining.
So when you get in your Hulk and get ganked for hulkogheddon don't say Uncle Cipher didn't warn you. Let's see: Assuming you mine 5mil/hour with a Hulk and that the Hulk costed you 260mil, it will take 52 hours to recuperate the ISK spent. Assuming one only spends 2 hours on average per day, assuming you have a life, it will take 26 days or less than one month to complete the 52 hours of mining at 5mil/hr. One month doesn't sound so bad. Fit tornado, scan haulers at gate, target, shoot and make a few billions per hour instead. Stop being lazy, stop mining

Agreed. Even insta-lock frigates take time to lock because they have to finish warp as they land. It's about a 2-3 second window of opportunity for the miner to get away. So when you get in your Hulk and get ganked for hulkogheddon don't say Uncle Cipher didn't warn you. Plus, the chance that you will be targeted is much higher in a hulk than in a covetor. This further increases the expectation value (cost times probability of incurring the cost) of the cost of a hulk beyond the straight dollar-for-dollar comparison.
Since hi-sec hulks are very common, we can only assume that the average hulk lasts much much longer than 50 hours, in which case it seems like suicide ganking isn't as much of a problem as some make out. |

Question to miners:
Now that Botpocalypse happened, will it be more profitable to sell refined materials or sell ships built from them?
I ask this because as a part time farmer, the term "value added" comes to mind. For example, if I had a crop of pumpkins (did once, that's a lot of freaking pumpkins) they only sell for so much, but an average pumpkin pie has only 2 cups or 16 oz of "refined" pumpkin in it (boiled and mashed) but costs way more than the material values.
Will miners be more inclined to build stuff from the ores they mine to pull a profit and in that case, would a Hulk pay itself off faster?
My interest is not in mining or industry but in exploring the concept of value added and market factors.

In EvE, ships are related to the insurance cost which in turn since a while it's related to an average of the minerals basket. There's little added value in manufacturing products (like in most MMOs) and the whole stock sometimes is sold at a loss anyway. This is due to market fluctuations and other factors, including traders outbidding each other with stock bought when it was cheaper (or at a loss). However this thread is so full of people with massive lack of readin comprehension it made my head hurt.
The 50 hours is not the time it would take to replace a hulk, it's the time needed for the isk investment in a hulk, relative to a covetor to pay off due to the extra yield. |

I'm not understanding your point of view with this Drake/Tengu argument, specially if those announced changes are done drake will probably be closer to Tengu for lvl4's (closer doesn't mean alike we're ok on that)
50M BC on one side and 700M Cruiser on the other, t'il then I'm ok.

To say nothing of the severe decline in collectability now that there's an actual supply of the stuff! I wonder if the low value is some sort of conservationist plot to ensure we never again find ourselves singing, "where has all the Spodumain gone?"
That does somewhat point out what I think is one of the bigger problems with mining, in that it's only really worth bothering with the "ends" of the ore-spectrum, and in both cases there's not much incentive to do anything but pile as many mining lasers as you possibly can into any mining effort- for hisec because there's not really anything escort ships can do against any credible threat (unless you're talking war targets, but current mechanics promote "do something else" during a war rather than "beef up the escorts"), for nullsec because there's not really any credible threat you *need* escort ships to deal with and *won't* have a ton of advance warning for so everyone can go dock/safe up and maybe even swap for combat vessels (granted not all of nullsec is on big intel channels in locked-up systems but even then I don't hear of too many people putting together mining ops they intend to defend in-place).
The only place I'd really think a "real" fleet would be useful is lowsec because you're more likely to not see raiders until they're in local, and really... what is there in lowsec that's worth taking 25%-50% of your mining lasers and sitting them in combat ships these days, just so you can chase off pirates (and likely take a sec hit doing so)? |
