Deionarra: I like all of your suggestions. I like the idea of high slot modules to increase drone control ability. I like the diea of alow slot module to increase drone bay size. I have to disagree with your third point, though:
I can't see any reason why a light drone should not be as powerful as the smallest rapid fire weapon of each category, such as a light pulse laser, electron blaster, or whatever the smallest of the small autocannons is. I'm not suggesting that they have the same ability as the biggest weapons of each class, but the smallest of each class. That way the stats for those weapons are already designed by the dev team since they presently exist in game.
I am not sure if we're disagreeing or not, but my general point is that if heavy drones are supposed to engage battleships, they should be able to engage them at the ranges battleships fight (or longer, if drone carrier ships are going to have little offense of their own). Medium drones should be able to engage at the ranges cruisers fight at, and light drones should engage at the ranges that frigates fight at. Whether that is done with changing the ranges of their guns or the control range for the drones or both it would be pointless to have drones designed to fight battleships that can't reach out and hit a battleship.
I'd rather see those control ranges reversed actualy and give extended range to medium and heavy drones instead.
The only problem I can see with this is that increasing the number of drones in play could cause lag issues.

TomB> I'm testing the new stats out on chaos right now, one thing that NEEDS to be fixed before release tomorrow is that the drones go in MWD speed when recalled. Right now they fly away with great speed, but when you recall them they move slow slow slow.

I know the patch is going out tommorrow but in future how about maybe given drones differnt ranges, heavy drones should be able to go to about 100km away.

well in practice it seems you won't be needing to ditch your heavy drones. tarranis and another frig had drones popped on them by a thorax. Result = two dead frigs b4 they could get out. Conclusion = Heavy drones, or at least orgres are still the best in all situations, and thorax is still uber.

Look a little closer, drones put on nothing more than a light show unless they get at their op range

So the orbit speed thing is cool, adn then the "intercept" speed also,w tih their little mwds or wahtever... but when they are returning to your ship (after pressing return and orbit), they move at their orbit attack speed on their way back (before they start orbiting your own ship). I thought they would use their mwds to get back to the mother ship as soon as possible.. but maybe not. maybe the drone mwd thing is just for combat? who knows.. -------------------------------------------- I've had the same Gurista Imputor on my tail for the past 16 systems..
2004.08.16 21:38:37 - Combat: Your 250mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes Blood Sage, wrecking for 324.9 damage.

Would be nice if the "scoop to drone bay"-command worked as the dockingcommand does, drones return and automaticly jumps into drone bay

How bizarre that drones, well-used as anti-frigate defense, would defend against frigs. Shocking!
You got everything you asked for: Infinite-range bug fixed, drones now hit light, well-aimed, excellents etc, have a limited range, and are easier to lock.

um i may be wrong but my drones only use thier MWD to get to the target, if the target MWDs away from them they just use thier orbit speed to chase after them. i was just wondering if thats the way they are supposed to be.

Edited by: Murakami on 11/08/2004 23:31:16 I would like to implement into the drones a feture like guard. offensive guard and etc so when drones enconter a hostile they attack all at once instead of just enjoying a cyberSPIFFEH and listening to ambient music etc
And could you PLZ Releases Inflation Report for the First Quarter of 2005 and your predictions for the next Quarter.... |
