The tl;dr in OP is wrong. There are no stations out there.

About time the archaic probing system got some love. Sounds like the idea-men are hard at work making Eve into a place where their new baby, the Orca, has an actual use :)

Sorry, I missed it when you posted that. I was taking the info that there will be stations from the point in the OP rather than the blog, if there are no stations then it might just work to some degree. |

One thing I don't get...
1. There's going to be fantastic pockets of resources and ore for industry types to exploit.
2. There's no cap ships, no stations, and what space you return to that has cap ships and stations is random.
3. Wormholes close after n amount of mass transferred through them.
So...Who's going to launch a mining op into a system where they have to ferry back materials with an Orca only (which are quite large, mass-wise and presuming you're willing to comitt an Orca to 0.0), while each Orca load of materials brings the system closer to being shut down. And once the entrance wormhole is shut down, you have to leave to a system that may be (at best) 40-some-odd jumps from home or (at worst) in the middle of deep hostile 0.0?
Don't get me wrong, I really like the things talked about in this expansion - but it seems like there's no reason to visit these sites other than the new rats or a chance to kill the people trying for the new rats. ----------------

So what does this mean for old exploration? No more rad and mag sites? No more hidden plexes? What about finding skill books and BP's? What does this mean for codebreakers and analyzers and the rigs that go with them?
Not even a couple of weeks ago I bought a multispec bp and just burn through a couple of k of megacyte.
Don't get me wrong, I love the new stuff, but will I lose a few million in old stuff?

Lui Kai : What is the answer about mining ops and stuff with the orca exactly?
I'd have thought it would be the fact it has a ship hangar and a clone bay to call out an escort protection from inside itself.
Or miners, as the case may be. |

Edited by: The Turkleton on 26/01/2009 18:41:19 Will wormholes need to be scanned down or will there be an option to have them on your overview?
Also, anyone know if wormholes will strictly be in low/no sec or can they pop up in any system? |

I am excitied about the upcoming expansion. The only concern I have, is I will be left out of all the new cool stuff since I don't have mega-loads of SP.

The answer would be not using an Orca. According to the main thread, caps can use wormholes - just not cyno - so the answer is to use a Rorqual. The ore compression and clone bay facets of that ship make it ideal for this circumstance. |

Originally by: 5pinDizzy Looks like they are going all out to try and make the expansion space something for everyone before it's just taken over by alliances and pirates with capital ships and tech 2 gangs.
I don't think it's gonna work though.
Once they get there all they gotta do is bring 30 of their friends and camp all the stations.
This is ours now! Farming time!
Then what happens when the wormhole collapses, as (if I'm reading that blod right) it will when EITHER a random time limit expires OR a certain amount of ships have passed through?
What good is farming if you can't get the goods back?

The two ships that seem like they'd really shine in this:
Rorquals. Marauders.
Of course, letting either of those "shine" in these new situations means having to be willing to commit such a large and pop-able investment to a potential no-return situation. |

does it mean that the new scanning part will be a replacement for the local channel ? Also will it make scanning of cloaked ship somehow possible ? |

They've said no stations.
They've also said no sov, which means no building stations.
POS living is the best you can hope for as far as convenience goes, and even that would involve some dedicated logistics. Definatly do-able, though. ----------------
