[33] I started Playing E&B back shortly before the Vrix showed up i play'ed for about a month then quit it the level thing sucked and only having PvP allowed in certain area's and all players had to go through the samme things for the deferent proffesions nah i like EVE better EVE online is a far better game not just because of their customer service but also the freedom you got here wirth that said there are certain things EVE needs to get that E&B had the primary things would be plastik surgary and ship hull remakes oh and as for EVE's Custemor service they are getting extremely slow for non importient things its becoming a pain Thank You Paw Sandberg for all your BPC needs see http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=55706&page=1 |

[35] Edited by: CYVOK on 31/07/2004 22:28:58 EnB was my first "love affair" since I started gamming online years ago. I was the guild leader for "The Cyvercron Empire", On Pegasus server. We had one of the best guilds in EnB. Now most of our members can be found in EvE. I loved EnB, but I am having a blast in EvE!! I am a firm believer that community makes or breaks a game more then anything. I am now the CEO of Celestial Horizon Corp in EvE, we have 250 former EnB players, now having a blast in EvE... You are the one I sold my Buddy Code to back around Jan 2003 for 500k! On topic: Gank me, Pod me, whatever, but It won't make me not say this: The basics: Earth & Beyond was more fun, and more 'get and go' (which made it great for times you were busy). Graphics: CATUION: RADICAL STATEMENT AHEAD; PERONAL OPINION ONLY- Earth & Beyond actually had better graphics. Why? It was more colorful. "OMG CARTOONISH!!!" you say? I don't know about everyone else, but for me, looking at bland background colors and white crosses (NPCs) while pressing buttons on a miniscule GUI gets very boring. Naturally, humans are more attracted to crisp colors rather than bland colors In my opinion, so don't start "OMFG you cartoon watching kid" thing, please. How do I try to prove my hypothesis? Hypothetical situation: 2 supermarkets are beside eachother. One is proffesionally decorated with alot of lights, pictures, special effects and nicely varied crisp colors; other is a simple square building without anything. Assuming everyone knows that both sell items at the same price and same quality, which one would most people most likely go into? Story: Earth & Beyond had a great story filled with suspence, drama, irony and anomaly research. Enviroment was constantly (and at times dramatically) affected by story events. EvE, you say, has a player-driven story (OMG), but comon, "CA Invades SA. 100 Pod killed, 200 ships destroyed. OMFG GANKERS OMG EXPLOITERS!!! OMG GMS BAN!!!!" doesn't make a good storyline. PvP: Player vs. Player? The game has been out for a YEAR and CCP is still trying to balance PvP- a sign that PvP is not yet fully ready for MMORPGs... plus, all the posts about ganks, carebears, pirates... LEVEL TREADMILL!!!: Hmm. You might have a point.. but- what is a person with 9 mil skillpoints gonna do in his only Ibis? My point is- ISK here = experience in any other MMORPG. Without ISK you do not progress, and to get ISK you kill rats, just like you kill...umm.. rats (the four-legged ones) in fantasy MMORPG for experience. Keep in mind that what I said is my personal opinion, but many from E&B share same opinions with me. I'm playing EvE just to fill my time untill WoW ships... Shiva needs to be very good if I'm to stay with EvE. Currently, as it looks on paper today, it has a chance of keeping me, but you know the problems that ship with patching and content that was 'delayed for various reasons.':( -------------- ![]() |

[43] I was in e&b for a long time, and ran a guild called Steel Raptors. I enjoyed it very much and had a very active guild of 65 players or so. It was going great untill they introduced the experance ban when ganging lower level chacters. My guild was full of players from level 1 to level 150. And it pretty much kept everyone from ganging and having fun and probibly 3 weeks after that patch every one left the game. I kept the guild going for another 3-4 months but no one ever came back. One of my guildies invited me over to eve and this is where I stayed. I liked e&b for the most part, the level ban and waiting around on terminals trying to click faster than anyone else to grab missions was the only real drag i had in that game. John Blackthorn Blackthorn lvl 150 TE, also had a level 130 TT, level 144 JE, level 80 pw. Galeo Server |

[49] E&B was ahead of it's time and it's too bad Westwood Studios sold themselves to EA. EA is slowly eating all the companies that are important in one way or another to the gaming industry. I don't support what EA are doing, I won't buy any more of their games. I have no trust in EA any more. I played E&B for 20 months, from public beta. I started with a Progen Warrior and ended up with one character of each race/profession, six in all, all at level 150. Fun times in E&B: Ah the list is endless, tbh. I've been playing and enjoying EVE now for 4 months but it's hard to feel as committed to this game because it's lacking in fun factor department. There is fun in EVE, but it isn't of the persistent variety. |

E&B was just too small, LVL Cap at 150 was too low and no money sink caused hyper inflation. Class restrictions caused major problems. I joined Eve 2 days after launch and not looked back since. I blame E&B for making me a little too much carebare as there was no risk in losing your ship and devices. In Eve you lose your ship you lose everything on the ship and even your life, it costs to die in Eve. This worried me at the start of Eve and before I knew it, I had become a carebare. I just hope its not too late. |

[59] Quite a few are. :) Earth & Beyond was my first, and will forever be my favorite game. The story was its greatest part. Thankfully after they killed it we were able to get some pieces from the story bible and other notes they had written up... However we never did nor will we know what happened at the end of Act 1, or what may have come with Act 2 and 3. For those who did not experience this, imagine if you will... You are watching a truely epic movie or reading a visonary novel. You just get to the final climax of the story, all that you have invested and put into this comes down to this one moment.... and nothing.... the screen goes black, every page after is blank. If that was not bad enough, imagine you then find out you only saw a small piece of part 1 of 3, and you will never see anything more that you have. This is what EA had done to all of us. With no reguard for its consumers, they had pulled the plug on another project, its second online game to be closed forever (they are up to three currently with Ultima X Online). This is the reason EA will never gain anything from so many of us again. If anyone from CCP has been listening, please remeber, if someone in a suit comes to your door with a card with EA on it and alot of cash, please, please do not give in. Gaming companies, such as yourself must strive to continue creating great products and new ideas. To add to the industry as many against one. |
