recently i had a mining alt ganked in hi sec during a mining op. 'big deal it happens all the time'. a couple of years ago i lost two hulks to a player named HOETHE. it began with him flipping my can and my getting mad and engaging him with 15 drones and a battleship. he was flying a jaguar. little did i know that i was completely out gunned. to my surprise hoethe killed all 15 drones, then he killed my two hulks, and then he commenced to attack my abbadon. while he was attacking my battleship i got an eve mail demanding 50 million isk or he'd blow up my ship. at this point i was laughing my ass off at the complete absurdity of the situation. i sent a reply like yah right. he laughed like i did. i ended talking with hoethe for quite a while and i have to admit even to this day i will look up his character on the killboards to see what he's been up to because i actually respected his skill. even if it did cost me a half billion in ships it was a good laugh and thats what mattered.
the point im making is i chose to engage. with the recent changes ccp made now its just plain **** by 15 million isk cheap ass ships that can kill 300 mil isk ships just to get on the killboards. in truth there is no real skill involved outside a bit of strategy and scouting to setup the gank. the gank itself is over in a matter of seconds. so is it worth it to keep mining? what does it matter right? lets put it into perspective. im one player with 5 alts. i created my own corp and when i started playing eve i chose to follow the mining industry path because to be honest i hate pvp. i was chatting with another player a couple of days ago that is an avid pvp and when i told him i avoid it he got real quiet for a minute then he types back uhhh youve been playing eve for 3 years? yep. and youve never gotten into pvp? nope. then what have you been doing in eve all this time? when i told him mining, industry, research, and missions it boggled his mind. ccp has been so focused on creating situations to put people into conflict that they lost sight of the fact some people prefer not to be involved in it. little 1-4 man corps based in hi sec that just want to be left alone to pursue their own thing without others hassling them. imagine the concept! or maybe you cant?
so what? right? care bear tears blah blah blah
heres the situation. my accounts are all due for renewal in june. i had it in mind to mine over the next 8 weeks to make enough isk to plex my accounts and keep my accounts active. then i got ganked. then its announced hulkageddon 5 is coming and will probably last a month or so. there is much fan fair by players about how great its going to be to gank the care bears. i got news for everyone. i wont be there guys. since i cant mine in peace to make enough isk to plex my accounts i realized there is no sense in having all those accounts. so i am going to cancel four of my five accounts. thats 80 dollars a month real cash that hilmar isnt getting from someone who has played eve for 3 years and doesnt like all the obstacles they have created for me just to mine some ore. if u look on my hangar door there will be a sign

I can understand it. If you are just a miner and all you do is mine but you are losing ships faster than you can replace then them its not worth playing anymore.
There is no HTFU in this situation.

Yup, the only thing I disagree with in this post is that they should change something. You threaten the loss of $80 but for every miner who quits because they -only- like mining and cant there are 10 other people who join and love EVE for the ability to kill them, and everyone else. Ferox #1 |

If you lost 300 million worth of assets to one guy with a 15 million isk ship. This is a sign you should be re thinking your fitting and piloting strategy, rather than your mining op.
A purpose fitted BS can lay the unholy smackdown on a frigate T2 or other wise.
No strategy? Well he had strategy enough to kill you, while you lacked the strategy to take him out. Energy neutralizers, smart bombs, webs, interdictors a ton of stuff could kill a single jaguar easy.
Last person who stole my loot got whacked. When he undocked in a heavy ship and went after my mission boat, I refit and kicked him again. You could have done something similar, without even endangering your hulks. There is a fine line between a post and a signature. |

Well, even if you ignore PvP combat EVE is still a PvP based game. I used to mine a lot, but only as a means of income not as my source of entertainment.
You should really try to get into PvP, it's fun. If not, can I haz ur stuff? |

And what, pray tell, is stopping you from just playing with one account for $15/mo or less?
Sounds like you got caught up into play "lets see how many accounts I can get and play for free" while you should be asking yourself "Is this game fun?" "Do I like playing?" "Is this is a good use of my time?"
No one is forcing you to play via PLEX or mine to do so or pay for 5 accounts. And no we won't miss you, you add nothing to EVE. |

You were going to PLEX those accounts anyway. And there's always people to buy PLEX, so I don't think 'Hilmar' is losing much by not having YOUR 80 dollars a month of "real cash". |

Treo... Why is there always someone who doesnt understand PLEX in every thread. Subbing your account with PLEX is literally, 100% exactly the same as paying real money. There are others that buy PLEX, yes, just like there are other people who pay a sub.
It is -exactly- the same in terms of how much you contribute to CCP's wallet. The removal of one PLEXed account would hurt CCP just as much as the removal of one subbed account, and the removal of 10,000 PLEXed accounts would hurt CCP as much as the removal of 10,000 subbed accounts. Ferox #1 |

OP, I agree with you. But,there have always been mechanics IRL and otherwise that focus on cheap, throw away stuff to destroy much more expensive crap. If CCP did 'do away' with it, it seems a disservice to people who get their kicks doing the very same thing.

OP,
I too have limited myself in the industry field for some time now. I started playing EVE a little over 5 years ago. I started in the direction of industry, mining, manufacturing and all the other things that went along with living a peaceful life in space.
Presently I own a Rorqual, hulks, macks, Orca, carriers and JF. Not to mention the alts to operate a small mining fleet. I also have numerous BPOs of ships & things. However all those assets are safely tucked away in an NPC station.
Why you ask?
Some reason the PVP minded people have come to the conclusion that EVE has no place for industrialist. They don't understand the concept of others who wish to live in peace. Not sure why they think that EVE is only suppose to be PVP. I'm not sure why they feel Hi-Sec space was made for attacking defenseless mining ships. I figure if EVE was meant to be PVP only, the industrial side of EVE would have never made it into the game.
But... whatever.
I too despise PVP, but I have dabbled in it the last year with one of my mains. I'm 92% proficient in killing with a little over 400 kills under my belt. Not a single kill on my board is a Hulk... etc. I think I killed one red cyno trying to hot drop the corporation I was with at the time. Any other cynos I went on my merry way knowing I could have... but didn't.
Since I dislike PVP so much I've pretty much kept my accounts going with isk I've earned over the 5 years and cash when needed to keep the accounts training. However I too may be shutting down all my accounts in the near future as I'm not really enjoying the game that much atm due to the constant attacks by some wanna be pvp'rs looking for easy kills. (Thankfully I've not fallen victim thus far.)
I always thought real PVP was when you engaged in battle against worthy pilots in lo-null sec that had gear to fight back. What the proclaimed pvp'rs of today are doing is liken to sitting in a deer stand with a high caliber rifle with deer feed (asteroid belts) laying under their deer stand, better yet having 20 of their buddies with machine guns hanging out in the trees all arounf the deer bait. Just not much challenge the way I see it.
Well... that's my two isk about the situation. Meh... just a game anywhoo and it's spring here. Time for some fun in the sun! |

A balance should be struck, certainly in high sec the stakes should favour the miners since concord would react faster and harsher as high sec is a safish environment.
From what I hear concord will also repair shields and armour on aggressed targets now. I find that a good solution if its not overpowered but a standard amount of shieldrep.
Offcourse if your a miner and you are really wanting to protect yourself why not deploy a guardian yourself? - [yellow]English only please. Zymurgist[/yellow] |

CONCORD was never meant as a preventative police force. With a class of immortal capsuleers it just wouldn't make sense. So instead they punish as soon as they can. And it is swift and complete. If a criminal can complete their crime before Concord can stop them, it doesn't matter, because the punishment always comes.
In other words, CONCORD is meant to punish a dumb gankers wallet. A smart ganker learns to mitigate that damage. Everything outside of 1.0 space is potentially a bad neighborhood. A miner sitting defenseless in a belt cannot and should not expect concord to protect them.
It should always ultimately be up to the players to make sure they don't get ganked. Don't leave it up to CCP or Concord to save you. That isn't the way it is supposed to be. |

baltec....Tell me something. Do you not fit your ships to have them perform at top efficiency for the activity you are using them for? So why would a miner do any differently? Fitting a tank to a barge comes at the cost of mining effieciency. I'm not much of an industrialist, I have a character that mines on occasion when I don't feel like scanning, running missions, or trying to pick a fight.
Why should a miner be forced to fit a tank to mine because of gankers?
It's like trying to say PVP'ers should be forced to gimp their PVP ships with one less tank module or gun. I understand this is primarily a PVP game and I have nothing against it. I enjoy my PVP when I get some just like the next guy/girl. I'm just curious to know why a lot of people feel that miners are not entitled to peak efficiency for their ships.

An untanked hulk will tank more than an untanked pilgrim. EVE is a dangerous place, fitting no tank on anything is just asking for trouble, especially if said ganker can make a profit from your death. |

See, same logic can apply. Too soon?
Now, if the hulk pilot is responsible for a tank then of course the same responiblity should be for the guy getting tracked by XL guns should upgrade to a capital ship with a buffer to counter the Titan. Problem solved, we leave Hulks as is and un-nerf Titans since CCP doesn't need to get involved. Balance as it should be |
