Hiya guys,
Just looking to touch ground and get a little feedback from the community on the sort of events that you would like to see in EVE.
One subject i've been debating recently is to start performing events in 0.0 space - however with an appropiate level of difficulty for alliances.. thoughts?

random jove mining ops?
Just cancel it if nobody comes investigate the blob in their empire space for 30 minutes, stay a bit longer if you've been scouted to give them time to bring up an attack force.
Of course it should be nicely defended

Have NPC pirates play a more dramatic role, cause atm they are ghey
I mean, they have all these people in their so called space, and all they do is bust your chops if they see you in a belt, i mean, they are pirates, they should be roaming around busting up alliances and corporations in their space
maybe have like regular pirate attacks on usually high populated 0.0 sec system that alliances and people use, i dunno, just something to add spice i guess

I'd love to see the outskirts of Empire space being regularly invaded by NPC fleets too with CONCORD requesting support from civilians to push them back.
ISD members could control the most crucuial NPc leaders to ensure it's a tough task.

Also, check this out.
You could create a storyline about some corp. thieves or something and they steal something so significant that CONCORD give them "kill anywhere by anyone" status which allows us to take part in hunting them down.

I'd like to see an exploration type event, where a particular empire recruits a couple folks to go to some boring-seeming, backwater area to check out a moon of some kind. It'd be something to grab some not-quite-carebears and send them through a lot of 0.0 space to something dangerous and/or interesting a the end. Sort of like the pirate logs but with more of a bang at the end. Retreival of a specimen, or what have you. Or, here's a weird idea, what about a disease? Some nasty plague that either affects ships or the pilots, and folks have to flee sectors or rush in to pacify areas. (Disease driving mining ops crazy? I dunno.) Something that would take people by suprise, to flee in terror or have them investigate the peril.

( "bring me goods" missions tied into the story arcs are certainly a lower risk occupation for players in empire, though expanding these to 0.0 might be interesting. Try and get 10,000 units of small arms into angel cartel space to try and fight off the ebil CA, or robotics and drugs to sansha space etc. Big rewards, but big danger.
As in the GFTL and TAKA events these can tie into the main arc and give hints as to further storyline and so on. Doesn't have to be trade goods or even minerals. Some pirate band might want afew Battleships and cruisers brough to them in low sec space so they put up "buy" market orders (using a front company)for ships and weapons modules. Could be tied into previous low sec kill missions and later low sec kill missions.
The ideas of small NPC fleets and small pirate fleets in lower security space, or even some doing higher security raids (the guritas come to mind here) as mentioned above would be intersting for those looking for excitment or the more PvP orientated players. This could extend to the 0.0 areas where they'd be looking for confrontations with the alliances.Tying in NPC's and event characters worked really well at Crielere for example.
Or how about more of the corp-war type (like the Caldari Secure Force Incorporated vs Quantum Mechanics) where players can align themselves to say a gallente corp who wants some damage done to a Caldari competitor.
I also like the idea of bringing in groups of RP players, like the CEC/GU/CVA/C-I-A. It gives them more imersion in the world and a chance to make them feel like they're making a difference doing what they're doing as they can interact with things that directly effect their chosen cause. )

Edited by: Dallenn on 01/08/2004 12:29:01 Intrigue and complexity are important - have the PCs participating work against each other or with each other for IC reasons. Give them multiple options for action. (In this respect the Takamatsu event sounded like a nice one, Viceroy could manipulate the other PCs there :-) ) Keep the PCs in the dark about what is really going on... except if some of them are really bent on finding out what is going on, in this case they would be able to acquire clues with reasonable effort. Also leaking of various clues could be carefully machinated prior to an event, for example maybe PIE hears something when they talk with imperial officials, just a piece of the puzzle, maybe you get another piece from some Caldari agent in Lonetrek, one more piece from a news item...
If there is nice loot to be had from the event, make the players do some exploration or otherwise find out where exactly it is, just bringing the most powerful ship to the spot should not do it. Or maybe the rewards come only afterwards, from high-ranking NPCs the PCs managed to please.
Employing PCs as event actors could be something to look into, if only claims of favoritism can be addressed. Maybe have an open process of applying for events, have each player that wants a special role submit a short bio or description of their character's motives in regard of certain event arcs. Then the PCs that are selected can be given with extra clues, an important item or the command of a task force for example.
How easy is it to participate in events in 0.0 space? The blockades shut out some of the low-level or carebear-minded players, while many players who spend their time in empire space could sneak in a day or two in advance, if the event is interesting enough. This relates to another thing I have been pondering in regard to many events: what would be the exact IC reason for my character to join this event? Why would she care?
Events in 0.0 space of course have other benefits which probably outweight the difficulty of access. Also the alliances can be given a reason to cooperate with empire-based players, for example they can be entrusted with the responsibility of escorting task forces through pirate blockades and such.

Edited by: Haratu on 01/08/2004 16:35:06 I have 3 points... 1. I would like to see some events where events actors organise events with either freelancers or corporations. I am sure many corporations want to do things (and i know are doing things) that event actors could easily help put into action or encourage (eg. helping a corp's goals get set as a long plot, or leading attacks against player run blockades as a short instant plot). This would motivate many corporations and freelancers try harder to fit to their goals for roleplay and will give them a better feel for how they react in the world.
3. Events that are your basic courier or kill are simply boring because we can already do them with agents. I would like to see special projects where people have to do unique things that normally they could not do. An example (from a selfish standpoint), salvaging would be a nice event... a special event hulk needs to be salvaged, the actor either drops packages to be moved to a station or the actor moves them to the station after the player has 'mined' them.
4. I would like to see some events in the lesser travelled regions of empire space. There are many regions of space that as far as i am aware of events rarely occur in. I operate in the southern regions of Amarr empire and Ammatar space and have yet to see an event occur there, all the events i have participated in (or even heard of) have been at least 8 jumps away in Amarr or in the opposite direction in Minmatar (which is more like 15 jumps from me). I am sure there are other areas where there is a hole of events in empire space.
I can not see the point of moving to 0.0 space until the holes in empire space become more event organised. After all, there are more stations in those areas than in 0.0 space.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

Hows about some corporate espionage missions? Why not have, say, a duvolle labs representative hire some people willing to 'liberate' a BPO of a tech 2 item (packaged up so the runner doesn't know what he has) from a 'covert convoy' (aka a plot ship flying a route between 2 stations through some low sec system) and hand it over to the hirer. In exchange, the runner gets a limited run copy of a different tech 2 device and another copy of the stolen BPO is put on the market to buy in that area a few days later, thus releasing a Tech 2 BP to the public (one already in the system) to reduce the cost.
In addition, other PCs may be hired to protect the convoy simultaineously with similar rewards.

i like the odent events....more trader events...like 2-3 traders each day always seeking something new trying to compete with one another buying info from players if some of his suppliers has "betrayed" himand gone to sell to another merchant etc..

err hmm anyways, i think there should Be NPC fleet battle or ops in which the player can take sides and fight in, maybbe NPC faction standings can play in what side u choose, but fighting large scale fights with NPC or devs acting as NPC would be something really cool. Also prolly have one of the empires declare war on another and have massive chaos just a thought

I like the idea of 0.0 events, but you run across the problem of certain alliances own certain sections of space. Putting an event in their section is, in part, giving a particular alliance the event.
What I would REALLY like to see is something on the news that drives the price of certain goods through the roof on a particular system.
1. If I log in and see that there is a food shortage in Amamake system, I should load up on food and head there for a tidy profit.
2. If there is a plague in Ukkalen, I should haul some drugs out there to help out.
This would take no more time than creating a large NPC buy order and a small news bit every day or two. There are lots of trade goods in the game, they should get a bit of focus.
Besides that...
System Invasion. CONCORD asks all able pilots in system to help defend a jump gate from a wave of pirates on their way in from a low sec sector. Maybe put it on a 0.0 -> ~0.5 gate.
Important Visitor. Have a someone important (major sports figure, actor, etc.) make an appearance in system. Then you could have certain parties who would like to kidnap said individual. It becomes a battle to protect a certain ship, and it's VIP. If not done well, then the rescue mission begins.
Eventually... Destroyable pirate bases that come up in a system that has been inactive for a while.
Besides trade goods, not many non-combat events come to mind.
Hope this helps...
