This was a great guide. I'm past new-player status and I still got a few new things out of it I didn't know before (although I did rush towards a big ship ). One thing, however, I felt it was missing was the ability to view it on my PDA. Such a small screen doesn't like any page with a navigation bar on the side, such as the EVE-Online forums.
Problem solved: http://www.webhse.com/Nick/EVE-Online/New_Player_Guide.rar
Again, great job on an intro to current n00bs that's better than any else I've seen on the official site. It's nice to have everything all in one place.

This guide is more informative than the official stuff and in better language too. You should be contracted by Eve Online to cover other dimensions of the game, or at the least, this should be woven into the official on-line guide (it needs it)
Top notch M8

Concise, yet thorough. Information overload is perhaps the biggest turn-off for newcomers to EVE. This guide manages to get the basics down without feeling overwhelming. Well done. __________________ Interstellar joy-rider |

I was looking at the prices for the Imicus on the market and was floored by the difference in prices are some of the ships more equipped than others?
I am only on my 3rd day of the trial.

There certinaly are more ships, but a) this guide is 6 months old and b) it's only meant as a New Player's Guide. You get to the point you care about barges and EW ships, you no longer need a Newbie Guide :)

He mentions in the Tristan section that it has Hi slots for three weapons, and one for other pieces of equipment. What kind of equipment would normally go here? Everything I've found so far is Med or Low.

I just discovered, that the guide by Restrius has been added to the Eve-Wiki.
And the beauty is, that we can update the guide since it is a Wiki.
We are recruiting! ---------------------------

Not just plain English - good English, and no jargon (ganks, cans, rats etc) which make a lot of the forum hard to read for n00bs (I mean new players). This guide is not just immensely helpful, it's a pleasure to read.

While this thread is no doubt becoming cluttered with naught but commendation for Restrius' guide I simply want to throw my hat into the ring and do the same.
Fantastic guide. One of the many things I do in my life is write for a prominant gaming magazine in addition to writing various commercial games and technical guides.
To see someone voluntarily provide such valuable information free of charge in such a friendly easy to read fashion is commendable.
Well done!
P.S. Just started the game myself, pleasing to note that after spending heaps of time pouring through ship stats, buying myself a Tristan as my first ship was a good idea (and yes I CAN fly it... I'd fluked my character creation in such a way I started with 2 skill in Gallente frigate piloting... upgraded that to 3 while I slept last night. ;))

The guide is very informative - thank you. With people going out of their way to produce such a good guide, it just goes to show what a vibrant and cohesive community we have in EVE compared to other games.

More thanks from another newbie. The imicus has served my mining exploits well, especially with added cargo space.
Tip: Because of CPU constraints, upgrading defenses to shield extender 1 and armor repair 1 -- while also adding two mining lasers -- is possible with the utilization of two EP-S Gaussian pulse mining lasers. These are just like basic mining lasers, except they consume 9 percent less CPU power. Courier, Astral Mining Inc. |

What I've been having trouble finding is an off-line database that shows *all* the different components that can be put in each High-Med-Low spot (and be able to organize them as such).
This is what I have so far:
High: Offensive Weapons(Lasers/Turrets/Missles), Sappers(Nos), ?????
Med: Shield Enhancers(Booster/Recharge), Propulsion(Afterburners,Stablizers), ?????
Low: Cargo, Hull Adjustments, Cap Enhancers(Boosters/Recharge), ??????
Someone want to add to this list? Please?
