Edited by: CCP Fallout on 04/03/2009 17:57:55 Okay, I admit it: I mine. I love to mine. I love to mine in my Iteron. And I don't mind if you think any less of me. At least I know Chribba won't think so!
Now, I'm sure you're wondering, what's all this mining talk about. CCP VanishingPoint of Team Hot Rocks has just posted a new blog that will keenly interest those of us who love Veldspar. In fact, asteroids and ice are getting some pretty sweet eye candy. Over 70 unique-looking asteroid and ice styles are being introduced with Apocrypha, each indicating the composition of the ore that makes up the roid.
It's about time we miners got something more interesting to look at it, isn't it? You can read the blog here.

Some gameplay change here ?

Since Veldspar is currently worth 126 isk/m3, while Jaspet is only 46 isk/m3, it would have to be an impressive gameplay change to make low-sec asteroids "desirable".

I've seen them on Sisi, a massive improvement, congrat's all round.
Question though, is this a purely graphical update, or the foundations for a much needed update to mining?
I remember reading a while back that thoughts on improving the mining experience might include having different make-ups of ore, not just one big lump of this and that, these graphical updates suggest that this might be possible to 'advertise' without scanning? Originally by: CCP VanishingPoint The asteroids are getting a facelift. Better than that actually, the asteroids are now going to communicate their value through brilliant graphical treatments

Wait, subsurface scattering? Why would you have that on asteroids? O_o Also im interested in what exactly you mean by the different variable shaders mumbojumbo that somehow indicate how much ore is in it or whatever.

Great job with the roids CCP. You know you did well, when even the chronic complainers can't say anything bad about the actual feature.

Nope, not until colonies, if that gets ever released one day. Got to write a tier 2 version, I've got a lot of ideas for care... for 0.0 industrials :p
You know what would be awesome, would break blobs but would also kill loads of hamsters ? Disappaering from overviews if hiding behind a rock or an object (like ships...).
Meh. Too much care for hamsters in this game ;) Fetchez la vache ! moar(tm) > soon(tm) \o/

What a tease. While the rocks look nice, its nothing to rejoice at. Getting rid of macros, balancing mineral amounts, giving us more spawn amounts would have been something to rejoice at.

Yeah thats like the waste mgmt department of your local municipality saying : Garbage men rejoice! All customers now have pretty pink garbage cans that excrete a perfume fragrance to cover the scent.
At the end of the day, they are still garbage men, picking up garbage. No decrease in garbage pileup or increase in cargo capacity for the garbage truck, and no velocity change to the truck to make it go faster.
