Im wondering how far CCP are on solving the immense lag issue in this game.
Tonight in a battle, in Fountain, our enemie jumped into us, our gang was 39, and before long the number of pilots in system was 120 players.
I took me 2 whole minutes before i could target someone, indeed see anyone at the gate.
I suspect the lag was as bad in the other fleet asweel.
I have a 1024/512 connection, and 1.5 Gb ram.
The lag in EVE is not becomming better in fact its getting worse. Allthough CCP have made a hotfix on ship models stuck to your hull, i had around 10 ships stuck to me, when i finally warped out.
Allthough none of my modules seemed to work, i can see in the log, that i did attack and engage and hit the targets i selected.
When shiva comes, and alliance system kicks in, it will be adamant for fleets to engage in battle.
As it is now lag will kick in when 10v10 is engaging, So here is my question to the DEV team, how far are you in your investigation of this problem, and do you have a timeframe on when it will be fixed. have you narrowed down the failure and what is it.
As it is now fleetbattles are a test at best at worse your dead before the screen loads, at it goes for both sides of the war scenario. So Say I. Einheriar Ulrich of the Bloodline of Einheriar.

Some in our gang warped away, to the nearest planet, and warped back, they could then see all then enemies, but when they approced the enemies the range stayed the same, you couldnt see you jammed who and missiles, could not be displayed, the same goes for the usual fire trails from guns.
Maybe it would be an idea for a gm to attend these large battles and really monitor it.
just and idead, could a dev please respond So Say I. Einheriar Ulrich of the Bloodline of Einheriar.

The fleet jumping in had so much lag that 3 ppl crashed, 5-7 found themselves in warp when entering the 671 system, just as if they had just logged in, and ppl could see some of the enemies, but not all of them so calling targets was a b***h... who ? where? and so on... annoing to say the least.
Hope you can solve the lag issue, it gets old seeing a one frame pr minute slideshow, when in fleetbattles.
Chim.
but anyway props to CA for sticking around, even if the lag was a killer. |

Imho - CCP trumpeted the the fact that they were getting new SQL servers... - It has taken them minimum of 7 weeks tweaking to get them to work with a modicum of stability ... and yet they have been proved to be not up to scratch --- even logging on takes longer and that was a so called "patch fix" for the older hardware.
I take it that CCP that you have made your bed and we are lying / paying for it ? Again imho is your epitaph gonna be "bye bye eve - good game ...crap hardware support"

thank you for answering Orestes.
I had allredy seen that. what i was hinting at, was some devs actually joining these fleets to see and monitor whats going on on the node or at the actual system, when fleet battles occur.
You can only test so much on the test servers, but as i mentioned its only an idea. So Say I. Einheriar Ulrich of the Bloodline of Einheriar.

Id kind alike an answer to this aswell...
The hardware upgrades are ment to fix a majority of lag issues, and make battles playable.
The client fixes are ment to improve preformance more, not just make up for ther server lag.
The client fixes everyone is looking forward to, but the servers need sorting out aswell :s.. ---------------------------

I imagine that they can do so without being there.
You can try to get logs of these laggy situations by running logserver (make sure to .zip it when you send it in) while fighting.
I assume you do battle FAR more often then devs/GM's do and thus you're in a better position to get information from fighting scenario's on TQ then they are

Yes orestes, but the problem is that the logserver isnt 100% correct.
allthough it will show problems, last night it didnt work, just posting something is trying to do someting against something
So if we could swing it like, If we are gonna have a battle we could contact a dev so they could monitor it right away. i dont know if they can allredy do this on the several server nodes, or if they get faulty logs like we do So Say I. Einheriar Ulrich of the Bloodline of Einheriar.

Well, in the past, GM's have been at battles before, to monitor load. Quite a few improvements came from those logs.
In all honesty, I don't think it's the node or server that is the main factor in laggy fleetbattles. A lot of it has to do with the models and coding and stuff.
I'll try to get Oveur or kieron to post a comment on this thread in a few hours (I have to go shopping in a wee bit).
