Thank you CCP for visually impressive patch; I like almost everything - warp, cloaking, salvaging effects etc. except the new laser efects, especially tachyon laser effects and sound. Tachs sounded better without that gunshot effect at the start ; All my respect to designers for hard work, but that plasma-like effect around turrets when tachs are shoothing is a nerf in my eyes. Now it looks like they are shoothing some kind of plasma substrate instead of concentrated beam of light; Also, I think that visually more impressive upgrade would be if I could visually distinguish hit from compleate miss - if those tach beams would hit near the frigte and reach away in empty space, that would look more like from sci-fi movie, instead of this always a hit effect; These are my personal preferences, of course. Otherwise, visuals are really great. |

Had a long training running and logged in to check status. Updater download ran smooth at 700+ for about 35-40 min only to tell me at the end there was a data error (unspecified) and that I would need to do manual download. Attempted second time to use the updater with same result. Have played since launch and have never had an issue like this until now.
After checking out the posts am very upset because it appears that even downloading the manual install may be a waste of my time due to hardware issues I do not want to or have the time to deal with at this moment. I have enjoyed playing all these years and have met many good people while playing. I felt no need to go beyond Quantum but apparently CCP doesn't care that it will be forcing many of us to leave who were fine with the content as it was.
Before I get flamed for not being aware of the changes, I suppose I should apologize for having a real life and not spending all my time (often just being able to log in long enough to set a new training and log back out) on the forums. I have as rule found them to be mostly a bore and the whiners a pain. At least ingame you can block the annoying ones, but as in the past these have been the voices that CCP has always responded to.
I wish every one well, and to those I have had the pleasure to fly with and work beside, keep checking your six and your tubes loaded. There are no limitions for the creative mind. What others see as limits are nothing but special tools in their hands. |

Was fearing the worst after reading the forum feedback on SHC and EVE-O but I have to say that the patching process was entirely painless.
And the attribute re-mapping is something I'm pathetically grateful for.

The new Trainings-Que is wonderfull but maybe it would be better the time that can be planed set up to the game time that the acc has. Means atm it is 24h that can be plan with diffrent skills but most of my skills taking mor then 24h!

No, the sounds were awful before. I'm not saying that they're wonderful now, but at least we don't have to suffer that highly compressed grinding metal and heavy electrical noise when jumping and warping out of a gate shield. After a couple years of jumping everywhere that grinding noise really got annoying, most of my friends just turned sound completely off. I for one complained and requested a sounds refresh. I'm glad that they did it; on the other hand, I respect the opinions of those who don't like change.

:) The wormhole idea is something I am not planning on trying out. I am guessing it will be a bit before all the bugs worked out and personally, I don't like the idea of not being able to find my way back to the same spots. Once again it is a nice pvp'er thing only. Go, pvp'ers. For making isk in the game seems to be a huge waste of time. :)

Mac user - 2+ GB, left it on download overnight, as connection is not that fast, and lo and behold, gave an error saying file was corrupt, reload... Also the Patch Feedback, Notes and issues links on the front page don't work! What a nightmare, not very impressed at the moment. Trying to get it downloaded for the forth time....

Originally by: Tako Yaki I know it's minor for most people, but I'm disproportionally upset that the warp camera shake is gone... ah well..Please consider bringing back the warp camera shake, you can turn it off in the settings if you don't like it so why remove it from the game?
I thoroughly and wholeheartedly agree, for about five minutes I liked the smooth warp experience, like taking a nice break from camera shake, and then after that I found myself really wishing it was back. The camera shake really made it obvious without squinting at other clues whether I was warping or not, and it gave the sci-fi tech a sort of "unrefined" feel which makes it a little bit more realistic. The option is still in settings but it's apparently ignored. I posted a petition / bug report.

Sorry guys, but introducing a new patch of that size and not offering the correct update files on official web site (or auto-updater) is .. no words for that.
Worst thing i¦ve ever seen. Not even a 1-man-software-house would have that crude ideas

Hahahahaha !!
I love new patches cause I love these threads!! How people can get set frustrated about small things and ***** about nothing. Ah man, this is great.
Please guys... keep up the *****ing. I want more!
Oh yeah, besides the fact there are a few things that need improvement (sound). I like the new mission window, the skill queing and the attribution remap stuff.
See guys, there are also good things in the patch.
but pls, keep *****ing about the sounds, crystals and other changes. I need my laugh for today.

Here are some of my initial reactions to the patch.
Overall, I love the new patch. There are issues, of course.
- The warp tunnel has a watery ripple effect that looks okay but the white parts of the ripples are way too white. These "ripples" should be a lot smoother and less distinct.
- I'm SOOOOO very happy that the heavily compressed grinding noises at the gate and leaving the gate are gone. I know that there's been a lot of negative feedback about the sound changes on the whole, but if they are effective enough to cause CCP to revert sounds, I hope they don't bring back that grinding noise at the gates. It was tolerable when casually playing but was just so tiresome to hear after a couple years of nightly gameplay.
- Camera shake is broken, period. If that was by design, it's still broken--Esc settings still has it checked, but regardless, camera shake was a good effect not just aesthetically but also to make it obvious to the player that the ship is actually still warping (slowing down, etc).
- Overall, I liked everything about the old warp effects better--the shaking, the tunnel, the sound, everything. The way it is now, it feels completely dead. Wet and dead.
- Some of the EVE music inspired me to produce some EVE-inspired music a couple years ago at 2600hertz.com. The inspiring music tends not to be the same sort of music that is still being produced with these expansions. The new songs are not very interesting, although the title / login screen music isn't bad.
- I have the game window with the login screen up in the background while I wait for the servers to come back online, and I'm noticing that the background music song doesn't finish correctly. It suddenly inturrupts and restarts like a broken record after a couple minutes into the song.
- I'm in agreement with most everyone else about the fitting window; it's aesthetically pleasing, but the fitting window needs to be FUNCTIONAL more than any screen in the game, and this new screen is simply not very functional. The old design was very nicely thought out; the new design is trying too hard to be the next Apple puck mouse.
- If what others are saying about combat noises being lost when zoomed out even just a little, I have to agree with their resentment, particularly if your ship is taking a hit. In fact, I would welcome the change if only some other audio feedback was in place to inform the player that the ship has just taken damage. A buzz sound would be practical but annoying; the old combat sound effects at distant zoom was equally practical, even if unrealistic, but was far less annoying.
- Love the new belts and especially the cool mining turret effects.
- Love the training queue. I think it should be 48 hours limit, not 24, but I'll take anything I can get.
Cheers.

Loving Apocrypha sofar, and kudos on what seemed to be a very fast and smooth deployment!
Some of the highlights for me from what I've seen sofar: Skill Queue: Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou! Awesome! Attribute Remapping: Started some new chars and loving it! Being able to see my corp's own standings, as well as see how it's made up *cheer* Being able to make folders for shortcuts in the market window The visual effect when using stargates... whoa!
It's also rather cool to see all the excitment in various channels about wormhole exploration. I hope it'll last for some time.

Hi CCP. I can confirm from my side the following problems:
Audio: Turrets, missilies sounds are worst than before. For worst I don't mean audio quality, i mean u can hear it well, it looks like the volume has been reduced (even if I rise the volume of my computer ofcouse) Assets: Jumps for some stations reported on Asset windows are wrong (for example u r in mirilene and it reports still 2 jumps) Training Queue: Looks like u lose SP if u use it.

Hey CCP,
Thanks for another great expansion. There are a few things with others have also brought up which I think have been made worse. The sound is one, everything is quiet, all the sound cuts out at 10km from the ship, cloak effects are nearly silent, just a soft moan. Please can we have the sound back? Make it so you can hear it as before when you zoom the camera out and when you're up close not just how it is now where you can't hear it unless you're right zoomed in on your ship. Also frigates don't have explosion sound effects or if they do, they're whisper quiet. Sure it's space sure you can't REALLY hear sounds in space, but this is a game not reality, I like to hear every explosion, every cloak, every shot.
Another small point, POS shields, I'm sure others have pointed it out but that effect is way too bright and the swirling is way too nauseating. maybe just stop the swirling or slow it way down?
And lastly, cyno jumps. Where did the awesome jump tunnel go? Now it's just the gate jump animation blown up, not nearly as awesome as the previous effect, perhaps it is just a placeholder, I hope so.
Other than that, great job, I love the new textures and updated gfx and vfx.

All in all patch went well, although somewhat slow for the final ~3meg.
Asset screen seems to be broken, doesn't know what I have in system, and displays number of jumps wrong after I've searched. Ship fitting screen was a little surprising as the fitted modules without charge are difficult to see. FOF Missile effect still keep going after there is no target and module(s) have been deactivated. Difficult to tell at a glance if I'm cloaked. |

**!!Keep the features simple, not the effects!!**
Features are great, no complaint there, but...
Effects need work, it's a slow, time-consuming game. We need something cool to look at for a pass time. Warping needs to be a little more dramatic, the camera shake is not working atm, but overall the warp needs to be more interesting to make long waypoints go a bit more fun.
More Mist!!! Armor and Shield effects look like a video card malfunction now, bring back the misty glows!
Fitting! The low slots are reversed, not sure if it was meant to be that way but i thought that was weird.
Switching ships! Please oh please, bring the wait time down to maybe 10 secs, or remove it completely lol
Sounds! Not much to say about sounds, i like it that the railgun sounds no longer rips my speaker to shreds. but they would have to well with the effects as well...
Finally, i would love to see some new backgrounds. maybe make them dynamic, since everything in space is always changing, why not the background colors and shapes? i find myself having to relocate often to avoid the same boring looking systems.
that's it for now i guess. keep up the good work. o/

Only real problem I am having so far is that the skills tend to get "stuck" on completion imminent without finishing when there is more than one skill in the que. Only thing that seems to have any effect is to pause it... which seems to reset the entire thing.. None too happy about that.
Oh and I got a LOT of artifacts in the new intro movie.

I dont know if anyone else dislikes it
The POS Forcefield Looks too intense, also the waterbubble effect looks totally wrong and you can count the pixel of the effect.
Dictor Bubbles The end of the bubble looks way too sharp and the form shaping effect is a lot of irritating if you are flying next to it.
Same goes for the lighning effect on anchored mobile bubbles
Shadows The shadows your ships project on the gates are awful, again you could count the pixels.
The Effect when you Jump I kinda like it but your ship needs to be total invisible to make it any sense. Would like if your ship gets sucked into the the gate (polygons are scattering and dragged into it)
Shield Effect I guess alot of players like them. I would like a totally invisible shield, or almost invisible (like the old orb) that flashes at the position you got a hit (like in star trek i think)
Lasers are visually Cycling twice. One at the beginning of the cycle and one at the end of the Cycle.
Once you are shot from a player and he deagresses, he still shows flashing red, not yellow (okay, this is no gfx stuff). You never know when your opponent deagresses.

Edited by: Discrodia on 11/03/2009 12:11:43 I had a problem where I was trying to change from a mining barge with the fitting screen open, and the ship model changed in the screen but it still said I was in my barge. I tried to undock to fix it, and then my game crashed with the error something like: 'Pure Identity check failed'

First off all many thanks for the good job u have done to get this Update running. I can imagine how much work it was. Well done!
But like always... Some problems just appear later in the game and so it is now. This morning I locked in and I finished a mission. I returned to the base and activated my salvaging ship to salvage all the wracks now. (6x salvager installed) I undocked from the base but then I realized that none of the 6 Salvagers are online. So I docked again, tried to activate the Salvager but no chance. The "Salvaging" Skill was now missing!
I checked my Skills and yes, the whole Salvaging skill simply disappeared. The Learning bar in the Skill book showed at "Salvaging": "...getting finished..." and it stucked there at lvl 0 and didnĘt moved a bit. I had lvl 1 and lvl 2 already and when I locked out last night I checked again if the learning for lvl 3 is ongoing. At that time it showed: 6hrs left for lvl 3 and lvl 4 was planed in the Skill-Scheduler and it was also confirmed to be active by clicking the button. So all in all: lvl 3 for "Salvaging" should been ready by this morning at 5.00 and lvl 4 should be running but that was just the plan. I was back on lvl 0!
To explain that... I was never pod killed or something like this. So I cleared the cache in the ESC-Menu, I locked in and out twice but no help. It remained at lvl 0 still saying: "...getting finished..." So I stopped all training, cleared the Training-Scheduler and started again. It took again 17min to reach lvl 1 and now all has to be trained again.
Anyway... lvl 1 was reached and I undocked to jump to the wracks. I switched on all 6 Salvager and the afterburner and it took 15 sec and the energy grid was on O! That was never a problem before but now it is. So the Downtime came and I had to lock out for now. I guess that another Skill disappeared or simply slided back to lvl 0.
Pretty frustrating Have a look to the attached picture to see that this story is true. I`m looking forward to get my In-Game-Petition answered and I may getting my skills back... ("Salvaging" and whatever it is whats killing my Energy grid) ...before the time passed by and I trained them all again without an answer until then. Brgds, Sealauncher1

C...C...P...
Thaks!!! no really long time player(since beta) with a new toon to post just for fun :p The graphic polishing is great, things are alot brighter and more pretty, the new roids and laser effects make my main toon proud to be a miner, the new weapons and boosting effects (IE Shield and armor rep) are gorgeous, and the new scanning system is awsome and intuitive (once you get to know it) though can be combersome if your in a rush (IE not cloaked) Thanks for the skill queing! and the new Toon creation paths (i made a new account(yes number 6...) about amonth ago and created a new toon again on that account today, talk about awsome, all the gear iam finding will be reversed engeenered on that same troon in a matter of a couple weeks, not to mention he will be in a Command ship by then, th package toons of the past were combersome to say the least, (IE what is siege warfare at lvl 4 going to do for some one in a rookie ship... ) awsome patch with great great bennies!!! Thanks CCP!!!!!
(Though next time maybey three parts to the patch... instead of one large one those of us that steal our internet from the flatmates around us appretiate it! instead of spending 19 hours Dling on a low spee connection one patch of 1.9GIGS maybey some smaller ones? the laptop went down about 90% through the patchm and had to take it to the Girlies Aptmnt for a hard wire, and needless to say a couple hours of talking... whilst i could have been scanning........)

Ha,...Mr rid**** Wilcox kind of took the wind out of my sails. I was gonn acompolane some more about the expantion. CCP,...the expantion is great,..but i really wish that you would have done some more testing and refining on the finished product BEFORE releasing it. This just shows that you all are trying to release the product BEFORE its ready. One thing that i must say thougt on that note,...YOU guys are good about fixing the problems when they crop up, it might take you a bit to get to it but you always fix it. Just in your infinite wisdome and arogence, dont become another MICROSOFT and call your game bugs "intended undocumented game features",...thats all i ask. otherwise you guys are doing a great job,...ill wait for the fixes to the game,.....
issues that i have at present: 1) Lag 2) sound Thanks guys

Congratulations, CCP, on the successful deployment of Apocrypha.
I'm grateful for the testing on Singularity and for being able to contribute bug reports. Although running a beta OS, I can't help but think that some of my reports were looked into and addressed. One such report pertained to pixelation of the intro movie which is no longer a problem.
I'm still looking into the graphics changes and seeing what works best on my system. It's obvious that some extensive work went into that aspect.
The chronicles made for some good reading during the patch downloads and contributed to the 'back story' very nicely.
Thank you and good luck with the post deployment tweaking. "It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." -Mark Twain |
