What are some of the things you've learned along the way in Eve that had you known sooner would have helped you a lot?

Here are some of mine:
1. Don't spend two weeks doing level 1 missions to get your standing up, just train connections to level 2/3 and a whole new world of agents will open up to you.
2. Save that loot you are gathering and take it to a market hub or a mission hub (some place with 300+ people in local. Your items will sell for fairer values and you will tend to make a lot more isk.
3. Always salvage. But do it with a salvage ship, don't waste your time trying to salvage with your mission ship.

Market. I simply didn't take the time to understand it, and when it finally hit me on how it works, I'd realized that I'd been selling my wares for years at lower rates than what I could have gotten, if I'd only don't a little research and sold at hubs.

1) Finding out that you could increase the resistances on your ship after struggling with missions for a while. No doubt the only reason I survived those missions was because I had been flying a ships with a resistance bonus.
2) Salvaging
3) Learning skills
4) Not choosing Minmatar ----

Salvaging. I must have left many hundreds of wrecks ratting around as a newb. I've now got 700m+ in salvage and make all my own rigs.

You can make more Isk per hour while docked in Jita 4-4, than in any 0.0 belt or level 4 mission.

1. Don't train Missiles. (Nerfed) 2. Don't train Caldari (Nerfed) 3. Don't create Civire Character when most of the skill require memory and Intelligence 4. Don't spend all that time doing research missions for the Tech II lottery. (4 accounts 100k points each no T2 BPO offers, should have joined BOB) 5. Don't spend every last ISK for that Unlimited run Scorpion BPC. 6. Don't use above now 200 unit limited run BPC to convert to 10 run Widow BPC. (Got a 10 run Widow BPC but ship is worthless) 7. Don't even bother filing a loss petition or any petition for that matter. (Never a positive resolution just get laughed at) 8. Don't do faction missions for 5 years, Rapid Assembly only. (No jump clones).
I could go on and on

Realising how the market works and that people are more likely to immediately sell items than put up their few units for their own price.
0.0 alliances are only as bad as their whiniest and loudest member.
Most Ceo's are to busy to undock because they're doing other stuff that requires real life skills, not something you can train on the market to do.
I've also learnt that if you want/need something done give it to a busy person, not someone who replies "I'm not doing anything at the moment", because as soon as you suggest something for them, they'll turn around and do something totally different which wasn't important 30 seconds ago but right now is vital and immediate.
Never announce that you're training to fly the flavour of the month fit but it will take 60+ days for you to train.

Frigates, shuttles and pods are almost impossible to catch (and subsequently kill)outside of 0.0.
Never accept free-form contracts.
Never trust anyone in EvE.
Never use the immediate sale button on the sell items window.

Edited by: Haradgrim on 14/04/2009 21:46:32 1) Implants are a great investment if you don't go to 0.0, get +5s on your empire alt asap!!!!!
2) Datacores (even at presently depressed prices) are free money..... skill all characters for them as soon as possible....
3) Unless you are a solo player, the type of corp you are in will pretty much determine your play style...... make sure you join a corp that wants to do the same thing you do or you will just get bored and quit.....
4) If you can't figure out whether or not its a scam.... it is
5) Never trust a member of Goonswarm..... there's a chance they might be telling the truth / not manipulating you..... but likely not
6) Always train skills in the order in which they give you the greatest competitive advantage.... if two new skills are required for a mining ship but one of them boosts the amount the current ship you are in mines per cycle and the other one has no effect accept on the ship you want to eventually fly, train the one that gives you the immediate benefit first. This might seem obvious but it's not always so cut and dry (i.e. do you train drone interfacing 5 or gallente BS 5 first?) --

I've learnt to ask questions and talk to people where ever I meet them.
Mining in the same belt - convo.
Got shot down passing through low sec - convo (be nice, it's just a game)
see a forum ***** in local - convo.
Make contacts EVERYWHERE.
Finally never assume a two day character belongs to a brand new player. The game could be called Alts-Online.

1) Despite lowsec being totally safe in a frigate or nano'd cruiser, if you bring expensively implanted clones to a largish fight you will lag up and next see your screen working in a station.
2) Don't try moving to 0.0 unless going with a corp with half-decent logistics
3) Don't train caldari. They on the whole are not great at pvp and are really hard to train out of if you decide you like something else better.
