Agreed. As pathetic as the individuals who have every means to protect themselves, and refuse to.

Originally by: Sol'Kanar I submit to you that the pirates and thieves of Eve are more level-headed and well-adjusted than those they antagonize. I've tangled with other pirates and thieves, and win or lose, have never been subject to the abuses I so regularly receive from carebears. In Eve, just as in real life, it's the quiet ones you have to worry about.
Think it's more of a case of a fish out of water.
Pirates know how to deal with fighting griefing etc. so they act normally and rationally for this stuff. Carebears aren't used to this stuff so they react very porely and will often come out with burst of anger.
For example what do you think the average pirate would do if you forced him to sit in a belt and mine for 4 hours straight? I know it's impossible to force someone to mine but imagine the reactions of hard core pirates forced to sit still and stair at a roid for hours on end. You would hear unimaginable whining about how boring this is, how it sucks, how eve sucks, how you'd rather be watching paint dry probably followed by them logging off.
like I said it's a fish out of water, you put them into a situation they aren't used to and don't want and they will react poorly. Of course it's never black and white with just carebears and pirates you'll meet plenty of ppl who are somewhere in between.

Originally by: RedSplat When i blow up a bear, he swears, sends vitriolic Eve mail, tells me BoB are going to kick my ass (my fav. all things considered) and tells me if he ever sees me in real life he will beat my ass.
When I blow up someone with -10 sec they have a chuckle, call me a **** and come back in something else to return the favour. I might find myself flying in fleet with them next week.
The issue is isolation.
The worst kind of smack spewing, self entitled bears don't want to interact with other people. Some only on their terms.
To put it in context its like a self centred single child with asbergers playing on the playground slide, whom doesn't want to share and throws a fit if anyone else plays on his slide.
These people would be better off playing something single player where the reality of normal human interactions cant bother them.
And NO, not all bears are like this. The bad kind are a minority, albeit concentrated in certain professions in EVE.
Just as there are good fights in pvp like u said above their are bad fights. I've flown with ppl I shot a few days before and I've shot ppl I've flown with a few days before. Not all pvp'ers are happy to lose many will react just like those carebears and come out spewing all sorts of crap.
Also not all carebears are smack spewing whiners, we've actually recruited a couple of carebears that we pirated in empire taught them the ropes and they become fully functional members. It's more about the person behind the screen weather they can take a loss laugh it off, say "gf" in local and look forward to the next battle.

This thread full of mindless dribble. So I'm going to add to quick points just to add to the spam.
Point 1. If someone threatens you IRL over an internet spaceship game you call the cops.
Point 2. Anything allowed by the rules as defined by CPP is fair game. To quote the eula:
Quote: You may encounter and converse with people who are rude, offensive, belligerent, and who may use indecent, obscene, and/or threatening or harassing language while playing the Game. You may report any instances of such behavior to CCP. CCP will investigate and take such measures as CCP, in its sole judgment, determines are reasonable under the circumstances. CCP does not guarantee that you will not encounter behavior of others that you may view as insulting, demeaning, offensive, threatening or harassing. You assume all risk associated with playing the Game, and CCP assumes no responsibility for the conduct of any other players, and shall not be liable to you or any other person for their conduct.
If you don't like what someone says to you, petition CPP. If you choose not to petition CPP then you have no basis for complaining here on the forums. Bye.

I've cycled through the whole spectrum of Eve I think...
Carebear to pirate to mercinary to thief to more pirating and eventually hung up my guns and went back to carebearing.
I've learned how to negate most forms of "foul play" against me and if someone does get the upper hand I say cudos to them and move on.
Life's too short to spew 'net rage at pixels.

Exactly... I've done my time as a pirate and I'm doing time as a carebear. I've been smack-talked by pirates and smack-talked by carebears... There are crazies on both sides of the fence. Either way, NOTHING warrants personal attacks. What happens in-game stays in-game... leave RL out of it. It's just a GAME.

All people are crazy to some extent. It's the one's who hide it the best, who are usually the most ashamed of their nature, and thus, more likely to let it drive them insane.

I agree with the OP. Carebears are the cause of all the problems in the universe. Whiny, miserable bastards who are either ignorant of or unwilling to do the things required to get what they want in this game.
Happily, I'm not a carebear, I'm an industralist.
You see, while a carebear WILL RANT IN ALL CAPS 4ND US3 L33TSP33K to get across their outrage, it is the industrialist, the mission runner, the miner, and the manufacturer who shrug and simply say, "**** happens". Then we get in another ship, and go back to work doing what we were doing, continuing to make [choose one: money/ships/ LP's/drugs/all of the above], and give the guy that set us back no more thought. That is what sets the industrialists, the mission runners, et al. apart from the carebears -- they freak out at loss. We recover from it. ---

You'll get your psychos regardless of what their chosen (MMO) Eve profession is.
Some people prefer to get angry at others instead of themselves because they have chosen to become the victim.
Others get angry because their false sense of superiority has been shattered (by either superior numbers and/or tactics), feel powerless to do anything about it in game, therefore choosing to take it to a playing field where they feel they have more control and percieved power: real life. Which is unacceptable (and against the EULA) of course.
People who pay money or time to get so enraged in this game would be better off buying X3 and playing that. It's single player, you can be the master of your universe and you'll never have to deal with another sentient individual again.
I'm reminded of this for some reason
Oh, and btw.. I'm a bear.. and I care..

This thread is going places.
Alas, remember EVE is only marginally as psychotic as Runescape or WoW.
People have been RL Murdered over bits of purple loot in WoW. Now thats just a bit crazy isn't it.
Still - I love the Professional Bears in here retaliating exactly as mentioned in the OP. Barely a generalisation if they're reinforcing the point. Haha.
Hell, as I say, I just chill in High Sec and Mine most of the time - Occasionally road-trip into Tama and get blown out of the sky. Its all in good fun. I just can't see why people get so angry over this.
Xan'sibal's linked screenshot is absolutely ridiculous. Actual death-threats...

Edited by: Matrix Skye on 21/04/2009 11:28:37 It is true. If you're a PVPer that enjoys p*ssing others off, loves waving your d**k around a killboard and loves carebear tears you are generally more mature, cool, and level-headed than carebears. And don't you dare judge someone like that IRL. If you're a carebear, then you're just an idiot and are likely to be unstable in real life. Anything else just doesn't make sense.

I am reminded of one time when I was mining in a 0.4 system with my barge.... saw him decloak and pop me pretty quickly, so I hailed him on private and he was expecting me to basically be a screaming nutjob to him. I just said something to the effect of "yeah, that was pretty careless of me... you deserved that kill" and we wound up shooting the breeze quite pleasantly for a half hour or so.
But yeah, I got really friggin tired of getting ganked eventually though, so *GASP*
I actually started PvPing.
Its a freaking game, I don't really get the idea of getting all ****ed about it.

Yes it is against the EULA. I was referring to the motivation of the carebear to do it. It boiled down to a carebear getting overly upset and wanting to "get back" at the pirate. It was basically a **** move because he wanted to hurt the pirate any way he could.
Originally by: Bimjo The worst I have seen is from PvPers sulking in huge numbers on the forum everytime there is a nerf
Cute, but irrelevant.
Originally by: Bimjo Live and let live, you do your bit, let the Carebears do theirs, and if they break the EULA by being threatening or rude, report them
This is close to my point. I haven't reported anyone for anything, nor do I intend to. I'm raising issue with carebears who hold themselves with such high esteem that they can't even remotely fathom their hypocrisy.
The people that get too emotionally invested in this game are the carebears. If you get so upset that you are moved to rage and threaten another player, you have some issues that need resolving. It's a game. Anything that changes your perception of it being a game should be scrutinized and re-evaluated.
But of course, many of you are too daft to grasp such a concept and end up making an ass out of yourself in my thread.
And you just made an ass of yourself after your last statement I am being polite and debating with you all,and you end up judging me and calling me an ass, oh dear ====================
