tl;dr:
Ridic made off with 200b which is around 8% of EBANK's worth, sells it for RL cash and gets banned. TBH I'm suprised it took Ricdic this long, I swear I remember talk about him ripping off other people and **** like that before this. Still, only 200bil out of the 2.3 trillion ISK that EBANK had in storage, that's pretty poor considering he was the CEO of the bank.
Thoughts?

welp looks like he actually approved an unsecured loan of 275b, presumably to someone he knew/an alt, before he left them. That's pretty funny.

Honestly, If this isn't a big joke then I would say that Eve is worse off for this happening. It's just imaginary money, I mean I'm sure Ricdic was already plenty rich. What does he need 300 billion for?
It's really not very funny, it's actually kind of pathetic.

Neither Ricdic nor anyone else on the Ebank board or staff benefitted from the loan that was defaulted on. The money was not loaned to his alt or any RL contact. It's just a big loan gone wrong.

assuming $15 for 400 mil. Thats around $11,000.
$11,000 is a lot of money? Since when? Lets not forget that is more than likely that CCP keeps an eye on large isk transfers. It's hard to believe that he would be able to change all that isk into RL money before he was ban hammered.

yes, that's obviously why there are no bots in EVE, no market bots, no mining bots and no mission/ratting bots either. Time to wake up m8.

Yeah pretty much, it's a nice going away present. I would take a few thousand quid to be permabanned from EVE. From what I can work out, 500bil would be worth around $12k too. |

Well, the US dollar is hardly worth more than toilet paper these days and bound to get even less valueable since China is showing more and more signs of letting the dollar go, so I guess he's anticipating on that. |

Uh, $11,000 is around 20% of the average American household income per annum. It all depends on your perspective, but yes, to a lot of people (myself included), it's a lot of money. |

Hm, yeah, prolly, I mean, there are other MMO's out there and it's not like EVE is perfect. Also, I'm betting it's quite easy to circumvent your permban. |

Also, FWIW, he got about AUS$7,000, about $5,300 American or 4,000 Euros, if I recall correctly.

Don't find it very funny. If he used that isk to buy himself a lot of shiney stuff for pvp, okay. But to do RMT... not the hallmark of a good scam within eve. |

There is a cycle of imagination around any game. It basicly is an area in which you agree to play. You diminish the game by breaking the cycle.
As an example, if you play a board game, there is a difference between those taking all the shortcuts within the game to win and those pushing the whole board over.
Scamming is taking the shortcuts, RMT is pushing the board over.

Riddic should have used his EBANK standing to make loans out to a bunch of nobody throw away alts, used them to RMT and then sell his main, transfer that money to a throw away alt and RMT that. |

Edited by: Tildes own on 10/06/2009 17:43:21 lol.. the fact that the unsecured loan was given to a corp in KIA makes the whole bank even more suspect, given that massive chunks of the leadership of EBANK are in KIA.
How can anyone trust this, seriously

rofl.
tbh, i am laughing hard. honestly, eve just doesn't support the mechanics for banks, ipos and all that other crap that people have all their academic discussions about. plus, if people are too lazy to use the isk actively, they deserve whats coming to them.
everyone has their price and without any real consequences in rl its just disasters waiting to happen again...and again... and again.
if you have a few billions its so easy to make more with little effort. and without any risk apart from market fluctuations.
well, wealth re-distribution in eve at its finest.
as far as i know, eve bank hasn't collapsed at the time of this writing, but i am just having some anticipationary fun here.

http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/COLA/AWI.html 27% of the average wage.. however.. After taking federal and state tax (rate of about 7% for state, it varys too much to use high numbers) then average salary AFTER TAX would only be about 31,100 or.... he got 35% of an average yearly wage.
35$ gets a 60d card (currently worth 800m).. so it would take about 250 of those at 800m (285 at 700m).. so if he did sell out the chances are he did so for well under 7.5k..

Draw conclusions.
