Hmmm... Something just doesn't make sense here.
All of these patches that try to fix something that WASN'T BROKEN.
All of these patches are not fixing what YOU HAVE NOW BROKEN.
CCP, here's a good idea for the next patch that will REALLY fix the problem: GO BACK TO THE OLD INVENTORY SYSTEM.
If you must incorporate your new toy somewhere, use it as the assets manager. That makes much more sense.

In other news I have 10 accounts that are remaining safely subbed. I am giving CCP time to sort out the UI.
I think that their employees, at least the faces we see on the forums are a dedicated and passionate bunch that deserve our patience. Last year's cull took many excellent people from us (I miss you CCP Fallout!) I don't want to see that happen again.
The mass unsubs over Hilmar's nonsense last year were warranted, unsubbing over the UI is a little much.

The new inventory system is actaully really nice, with some unfortunate downsides. Which are really only in the loading issues, and in time CCP will solve, or they won't. But life will go on either way..
I did not like the inventory at first either, took awhile to get used to and that was abit frustrating at first. Change is scary I know guys, very scary indeed. But in the end I think that it is much nicer to have all things in one place. I hated tabbing everything together so I could get a similar effect and a cleaner screen while in station.
There are some frustrating side effects, such as each ship in your hanger is like its own container. This makes my visits to amarr, and my several hundred ships there a little annoying. But the fancy minimize arrow solves that, and it retains that I want my ships hanger closed in amarr, so that rocks.
I have read not a sinlge rant on this becasue in the end I care only about my experience with it, and I have very little issues overall.. I think that raging and threatening to unsub is stupid, but if don't wanna play anymore, because of scary change then GTFO, you're an annoying whiner anyways.
Instead try pointing out how the new inventory can be improved over the major improvements that were made. Games are an iterative thing, EVE inparticular is going to change alot. This is not uncommon knowledge CCP is not pulling wool over anyones eyes. So well have fun with that ppl.

Ideas are only part of it, if the interface and the actual experience of playing the game are a horror why would you want to do it? with my still active alt this is what happened with this newest release which claimed to fix majority of usability issues except performance:
*Load Eve and log in
*have corp hangers opened in a separate window, 7 tabs, market delivery in a separate window all setup just like b4 this pathetic expansion
*play for a bit, log off
*next time log in, windows are still in their position the last time I left them, except every inventory window and tabs shows up with title "inventory"
*indefinitely loading, even for empty corp hanger, ship and items won't load either
*open up assets window, trying to find out what's wrong...mmmkay, nothing happens, basically the whole assets and inventory refuses to load anything and function at all
*undock - overview won't load anything, context menu show no stargates nor planets, just stations, every station in approach range (no warp to menu option) and request dock at every station possible but cannot dock except from the one you just undocked
*re-dock, nothing happens
*log off, log on, clear cache cyle --- did nothing
*finally, close all separately opened inventory window (close and not minimize), log off and log on, voila! working again
*back fiddling with one single window when you open up the inventory tab
*you want separate windows, fine, do that re-arrangement every time for a few minutes across few active clients that had the issue, especially if you multi-box
*times up for the day, a quick game session became an window juggling session
*ask self "I'm playing a spaceship pvp game or doing some window arrangement + clicking PvUI job"?
*challenging indeed, and negative fun-factor
Verdict:
Thank you CCP, you did a great job making Eve a great PvUI game, I think this is your niche, you just won 2012 and 2013 reward for "Most Innovative GOTY"
PS: Your 7 releases of torrents of bugs in the previous 2 weeks are absolutely astounding and record-breaking, I've voted for your game in a lot of surveys, this time I will too, only in a different way when appropriate categories are available. |

I wasn't sure of the new inventory, being a player that lives in a POS all the additional info from all the POS defence structures was not useful and very annoying. Now's its been condensed, i'm alot happier. Personally, i thought that the new system would be applied to your "assets" tab, enabling you to see and organise all your stuff that is everywhere. I kinda still think its a shame that didn't happen, though i imagine this is just because i have ALOT of stuff all over the show. Still, the new system is better, gives you more information such as quick access to the size of specific stacks. This alone has saved me lots of time that i would usually spend working out how much i have or need. All it takes is a shift-click, and BAM, you've got yourself an old-school window like before.
I think alot of people in EVE just like things to stay the same. People are seriously quitting cause they cant be assed to shift-click to open a new window? Seems like a pretty simple thing to do, and certainly not worth quitting over.
Still, i guess thats darwinian science in action. Let them unsub in droves! If you can't handle a shift-click, then eve is definately not the game for you. Better go play wow or something alot less challenging to your mouse finger. |

The inventory fixes a lot of things that used to drive me up the wall (and made *me* feel like I was playing PvUI). It's not perfect - but then the whole UI is full of tiny things that don't quite work as they should.
So I'm much happier - and yet there are a bunch of people so angry they've left the game!

Containers should open in new windows by default, in my view. Or we should be able to keep two inventory windows open to manage cans and things. |

I hate people who uses the "HTFU" and "adapt or die" logic in areas where it has nothing to do with the actual game. Theres a difference between challenging gameplay and bad game UI.
This new inventory system adds more complication to a simple system while achieving the same thing, albeit with an upgrade that could have been implemented on the old inventory system anyway.
This system might work, but who wouldn't miss being able to see 2 or more inventories at the same time.
I won't leave because of an inventory change, just like how I didn't leave after 5 or so horrible patches that messed up the game. (Seriously, this is the only game where a patch kills the game everytime for me.) But they better tread carefully from here. |
