I like the idea of a social network tie-in, but had to point out one little thing from your "Agile Manifesto" that bugged me,
Simplicity--the art of maximizing the amount of work not done--is essential. (third line from the bottom)
Uh... is it supposed to say that?

Another pilot here questioning the reuse of the COSMOS name for something completely different. Isn't there enough confusion stemming from the use of the term PLEX to refer to both complexes and the new(ish) Pilot License Extensions?

How about some devblog of what u guys have been doing with WiS (if you haven't that project still shelved...), who care this COSMOS PoS, shell out something the majority of the users can actually enjoy... next expansion: better sovs mechanics, gotta be kidding me... how many of you devs get to really enjoy the new sovs mechanics...
Please pay attention to your clients...
As a loyal user, I'd like to ask you to kindly **** off. There are so many more useful things for CCP to fix or improve than implementing a worthless feature like walking in stations. A better website just happens to be one of them. If I wanted WoW, I'd play WoW. I don't; I want to fly awesome spaceships.

Edited by: Honest Smedley on 20/07/2009 18:08:13 Much support for being able to check and respond to eve-mails, monitor in-game chat channels (corp, alliance, public channels, etc.) and respond to in-game mailing lists through a web interface. Even more support for a reasonable forum re-work.
Curious to hear more about ideas and intentions though. Are you planning to allow the creation, fulfillment, acceptance and/or browsing of contracts out of game? Are you planing on allowing the market to be browsed and interacted with as though you were logged in on the character in question? Are you planning on integrating COSMOS with the in-game voice chat? I presume web-based skill changing is somewhere in there, but you've previously expressed a desire to force people to log in to change their skills so perhaps not.
Eager to hear more.
Edit: How about a corp management page? or a 'current POS fuel status' page? : )

turning eve from a hobby (get over it its more than "just" a game) into a job ? super ...
Originally by: devblog
oh alright, and so that we are truly Agile in our development process û we will be releasing features bit by bit.
in true eve tradition that means realease a halfbaked thing, let the bugs sit arround for 2 years while new stuff is released in the "expansions" amirite ?
also the great history of ccp maitaining websites speaks for itself
id rather have the current stuff fixed/maintained than new stuff i that turns this hobby into a full blown job

Originally by: Treelox [I knew that this blog was in reference to the social networking concept known as "COSMOS", but I still wonder why CCP chose a name they had already used for something else.
TBH CCP has hinted that they will not be fixing the ingame "COSMOS" missions something to do with their new mission writing tools.
Originally by: Ulair Memmet But why do you call it COSMOS? We already have a feature called like that. It's a bit confusing
These pretty much sum up my feelings. However I found the answer on another forum (SHC)
Originally by: Hippoking the original COSMOS started off as one of their major plans, and then was uninteresting enough that they figured they'd just reuse the name

I seem to recall Oveur having a character involved in farming COSMOS plexes, so really can't see how you failed to notice COSMOS is already in game !?
Given your total failure to integrate and revamp the existing COSMOS in light of wormhole space etc, what are you going to do with all the existing COSMOS stuff? ignore it as usual?
In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move |

The wording of the dev blog is really giving me a headache.
So a few guys I'm talking to is reading the dev blog to the effect that COSMOS will be done by the winter expansion, but we will get small bits of functionality before then. Which would then mean that we would get a new forum by Winter 2009.
I read it as if that the very first features will be a part of Winter 2009 expansion. But the new forum won't be a part of that expansion.
Could you clarify? Will we see COSMOS before winter 2009, and will the new forum be out with the expansion or after?

Will there be access controls on our profile content? For example, Id like to maintain an enemies list (so they cant see anything at all, or very limited) the a-typical friends list, alliance/corp access (alliance needs to know things like cyno-capability, while corp probably needs to know more in depth stuff like actual skill levels and ship types), so on and so forth.
Furthermore, to browse the site will it require a login first? No anonymous browsing like on the forum. (and maybe a ticker system to see how often your profile is viewed)

Ok, thanks for answering. After re-reading the blog I can see #1 was a pointless question.
But this blog is essentially a notice of delay, which is the reason for my initial confusion. It repeats the exact same thing CCP claimed last November only instead of Q1 2009, the goalposts were moved to Q4 2009.

Aw, sorry bro. I guess you'll have to deal with the "metagaming" of someone knowing when it's possible to find you for a while longer.
I sure hope you don't "metagame" yourself offline when you're done at the end of the the day. That would be cheap.

if you read their other dev blogs you would know, not this year. and there are a bunch of forum threads on missions (now closed)/cosmos missions/sovereignty, where ccp is asking for player input. and fanfest is coming up soonish, so they will probably have stuff then.
so they are redoing contracts/mail in the first bit, and some random other stuff with pages
will storefronts be included?

QFT. Why name the new site for an existing - albeit HORRIBLY BROKEN and abandoned - part of the game if it wishes to be not so broken?
Or does this mean that the ingame cosmos is slanted to be removed alltogether? Just not to get too confusing?

Something else to look forward to at Fanfest this year. The screen mock-ups last year looked good. Please don't forget to include Alliance level functionality - I can imagine a lot of empty corp calendars with nothing going down.
