I think that all right thinking EVE players recognise that the game is in crisis, is in risk of dying or becoming a WOW clone as it moves more and more from its original design concept. We the players have been BETRAYED by CCP as they continue to pander to the carebear ôgive it to me now without thinking or working mentalityö.
As has been stated before by some great pro-PVP posters (personal heroes of mine) the carebears have destroyed every MMO game and are doing the same to EVE. So lets look at some of the UNDISPUTABLE facts about carebears impact on MMOs:
1)They destroyed the great original MMO Ultima Online, because of their incessant whining about ôgriefersö, because they could not stand up to the mark and be hardcore PVP, the game was split into Felucca (the great original rule set) and wussy ***** carebear heaven Trammel. The result was that the game died overnight, Felucca rule set servers were COMPLETELY EMPTY. Trammel just continued and grew as players did their carebear activities of dungeon crawling, crafting and gear shopping. The original UO is dead it has become the ôSIMS Onlineö.
2)Shadowbane: a fantastic non-consensual PVP hardcore only game, only not enough MMO players signed up, because carebears refused to subscribe to it, the game died.
3)AOC started with hardcore PVP servers but because of complaints have introduced PVP game breaking rules around honour killing, murderer labelling etc. The result is more carebear wussy ***** players on those servers destroying the game concept by hiding behind NPC policemen. Another great PVP experience destroyed and these servers now have MORE THAN 200 players on them.
4)WOW û just because a game makes millions DOES NOT MEAN ITS ANY GOOD. This game has destroyed so much about MMOS: instances, PVE servers, arenas and battlegrounds, no death penalty. I mean its chess online with nurse to wipe away your carebear tears when you fall over and get hurt. Just tell me why do over 10 million people pay for it making Blizzard one of the MOST COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL MMO COMPANIES IN HISTORY, just why?
Now lets look at EVE. I started in 2003 (on another character) and it was a truly fantastic open PVP activity. There was no CONCORD, gate guns, WTZ, penalties to module stacking etc. In a T1 frigate or cruiser you could really get out there and ruin someoneÆs day. For example lets think of the great and never imitated MOO corp, what a great bunch of guys who really knew what EVE was about. To remind us:
a)They gate camped even hi-sec and blew away every new noob who was stupid enough to jump through. HARDCORE!
b)They dumped cans around gates to cause lag so by the time the screen loaded you were in your clone. LOL
c)They used the poor EVE code and rule set to make their weapons mega-powerful (long range, stacked modules). So POP went the noobs pod at 200KM. ***** and giggles.
d)Again because of poor code they duped ISK meaning they had the best and biggest ships before anyone else.
e)They were truly committed, being on 24 hours a day in shifts; hardcore PVP. Not for them the carebear nuisance of RL jobs, friends and families. They knew where their loyalties and commitment lay û to EVE pixels and an online heroism.
f)Fantastic threads against all the carebear wussies who shouted about griefing. On the EVE box it said you could be a pirate so ôrole-playö pirates they were. These legendary threads went on for pages over weeks and months. And they won everyone, hands down, no argument!!!!
Then the rot set, in game CEOs threatened to leave. I mean the game had started with 6000 online and it fell to under 5000. CCP thought about their wallets, pay checks and bonuses and gave in.

Part 2
In came Concord, gate guns and other PVP game breaking mechanisms. Then they fixed the missions giving carebears some PVE to do. In the old game if you didnÆt PVP then GTF mining in your puny Imicus for a few months until you could buy a real ship. It has been down hill since then; no escrow and contracting scamming made more difficult, WTZ, industry expansion, LP stores etc etc.
And where has this got EVE exactly? Yeah I mean 45000 players logged on and a thriving economy and player base but NONE of these people have any idea what the game should be about, so lets remind them:
i)Harcore PVP or GTFO. ii)If you ainÆt got a CEO screaming at you to be on a 0.0 gate camp shift for 12 hours or an 8 hour small fleet roam you are in the wrong game. iii)Pounding an enemy POS for 12 hours. iv)Smack talking people with YOUR SUPERIOR INTELLIGENCE, IN GAME KNOWLEDGE AND COMMITMENT. v)REMEMBER IN PVP EVERYONE EXCEPT YOU IS A USELESS NOOB.
So lets put the carebear whines about suicide ganking, can flipping, ninja looting in the cry baby dustbin they deserve. So lets stop the molly coddling and has been said in another thread
- this game is about hardcore PVP independent minded and free thinking players who DEMAND THAT ALL PEOPLE PLAY AS WE DO OR GTFO.
Lets save this great game, lets demand a return to the 2003 rule set; we may only have 5000 online but it will be 5000 who know that this game is truly about.

Ok, Re-read it. And I know you're not serious. Good write though. I got a couple of chuckles from it. . What's disturbing is that there probably is a couple of peeps that think this is what Eve should be about.

Geeze, if all these other games died due to PVP, must be a reason there....I wonder what it is...

Point 1: you demonstrate here how popular PvE activity is in an MMO by showing how, when you separate PvE from PvP, everybody heads over to the PvE server and nobody shows up on the PvP server.
Point 2: again, you demonstrate here how a game will eventually die if it caters only to PvP players and ignores PvE.
Point 3: i've no idea about that but I'm pretty sure it didn't die for that reason alone. Much like the space based MMO around just before Eve came out (I can't remember its name, but I do remember The Enslaver played it!), it probably died because a better alternative came out.
Point 4: yes, just why are Blizzard one of the MOST COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL MMO COMPANIES IN HISTORY, just why?
I also started in 2003. I remember the unrestricted PvP very well, especially in high sec (moo, space invaders, etc.). I'm guessing if CCP hadn't put in gate guns and concord, the servers would have shut down a very long time ago. But anyway, on the whole, you've proven the point you've tried to disprove: if a commercial entity wants to survive in MMO space, it's got to provide PvE content and viable limitations on the opportunities for grief, at least for a good proportion of its paying player base.

PvE isn't a problem when it is done properly and I haven't actually seen anyone claim anything else. What has been claimed is issues with the current implementation and fears about changing existing working aspects of the game for no other reason, but to cater to the lazy and selfish. Just like any other aspect of EVE, if part of PvE starts causing issues, you change it to fix them.
PvE or PvP isn't a magic solution to guarantee success. Crappy implementation of either can drive people to other games and kill your game. They also aren't enough, if you can't code the game properly. AOC was a bad game in the beginning with huge ass balance issues with classes and items, lack of PvP or PvE content, broken sieges, item duping and lack of promised features. Shadowbane on the other hand and I'll quote "I haven't met anyone who's been able to keep the game running stable for more than half-an-hour without the game crashing so hard a complete "flip-power-switch" ordeal was needed. Seriously, if you ever manage to get it to work, this crap is practially unplayable due to the lag." Surprisingly people aren't willing to play broken games, when working alternatives are abundant and by the time you fix things people have moved on.
As for the early EVE, I didn't care for it and didn't want to subscribe. I loved the idea and still do, but it was a bare bones game, that wasn't worth paying a subscription for. I'm glad it survived the bumpy beginning and has matured well. But it wasn't the PvE content that brought me here and it certainly isn't the thing keeping me interested.

Am i the only person who thinks all that carebear vs pvp'er jabbering is just childish? Everytime i hear someone saying carebear, the image of a 12 years old pimple face comes to my mind.
Seriously dude, grow up! Everybody is free to play this game as he likes. And nobody cares if you like that or not. You can create as many threads as you like, but it won't change anything about that fact. So why bother?

Edited by: Tenokiro on 19/10/2009 15:06:36 Eternal Bellend, if you were the owner of a company that created games for a living, would you rather earn 5 million euros or 50 million euros every month? CCP have bills to pay too you know.
There does not exist enough hardcore players to populate a game world as huge as EvE. I can understand your frustration and having hardcore players in a game is fantastic, but there doesn't exist that many of them. Therefore CCP will have to get money from us, the carebears.
I for one would most likely not be playing eve if there were people camping every gate, attempting to rob every noob blind of every ISK he had. What do you think would happen if there were only "hardcore" players left in eve, do you honestly believe that it would be the eden that you so desire.

Where are your citations?
Start with a verifiable source which defines the meaning of the word carebear. On average, if you ask five Eve players to define Carebear you will get over nine thousand different definitions.
