Great, just great, I go away for 10 days or so, and comeback to find out my stuff in Providence maybe lost to me. I hope it is indeed a hack, or some other dastardly act in violations of the EULA =\

Well it looks like they're having their sov returned and alliance reinstated. According to the CAOD thread anyway. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

It was exciting today TBH. Like someone said earlier, that it would be hard to admit this type of stupid hack adds excitement... well, for me it's true, not afraid to admit it.
We all knew everything was going to be just fine. The difference people are not thinking about is this. BOB's break up was ultimately up to players, corps, etc. To run and leave in all directions. CVA has been around a LONG time, and is going nowhere. We did however see something shocking, a red was able to dock!
Other than that, security was tight, it was a long op, but it was a damn rush for me to step up and show what we're made of. Believe it or not everyone, we are a tightly knit group of a variety of corp's containing acquaintances, and FRIENDS.

Just noticed from forum post, that CVA seems to have been restored in name at least. Congrats on getting things sorted out so quickly.

so how would they have "hacked"?
All i can think of is that they either gave the wrong guy access to alliance controls or one of their higher ups was stupid enough to share his loging/password with the wrong person.

Edited by: Hull Blaster on 29/10/2009 13:17:14 Glad to see that you guys are getting your sov and Alliance reinstated. I can't imagine how bad it would be, to log on and see that years of work destroyed by a hacker.
I like the idea of "corporate espionage" and all that, its part of the game. However, I really do think that there needs to be some kind of cooldown timer on the disband function, or at least a majority vote in the most senior posts. If there isn't, well the cylons told us already... All this has happened before, and will happen again.
Edit: @ Khendro, mate everyone can be the victim of keyloggers and spyware. Everyone lets their guard down from time to time, just a case of bad luck. Saying that, not a bad idea to change your log in password every month or so. Especially if your in a position of power like that!

More or less this.
To see one of the cornerstones of EVE's alliance history and backdrop vaporize due to a keylogging attack would be abhorrent. *** Awake in a Space-Dye Vest Struggling with Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Falling Into Infinity toward a New Millennium While trapped inside this Octavarium. |

CVA has been officially reinstated and all sovereignty was restored before the end of downtime (meaning they never actually lost an inch of space throughout this whole ordeal).

Wouldn't adding a wait timer to disband an entire freaking alliance help this issue?

After receiving a petition from CVA regarding their alliance being disbanded we launched an investigation as per our policy. Our experience in similar situations has often been that accounts were not hacked but, rather, the alliances were disbanded due to failed payment or enemy infiltration. In this case, however, we discovered that the account of the alliance executor was hacked by ISK sellers.
CCP needs you to help us fight RMT by not buying ISK! It may seem like a minor thing to do, all things considered, but keep in mind that these people steal credit cards and hack accounts to get ISK to sell. By choosing to purchase their ISK you are creating a demand for their services and the illegal activities that support them.

Endless thanks to CCP for their timely actions to restore CVA from this travesty.

I hope you CCP take it seriously and hand over all information to the police or Interpol whomever handle such investigations. Hacking and/or identity theft is even part of the terrorism legislation in some countries .. bastards should have a whole library thrown at them.
PS: Now will you change the mechanic that doesn't require any time or confirmation for alliance disbanding?

So why are those websites still up and running ? your doing nothing to the sites itself but only ban chars = whats the poing if your not going after the sites too makes me wonder if ccp is not doing it but let those noobs buy isk and then take it away. isk sellers still makes money and your taking the isk back, sounds like your both are in perfect harmony. more needs to be done to the sites itself, if you take away the sites they have big problem marketing and selling isk/items and so on

I can't decide who is more stupid, the ISK buyer who happens to be a director of CVA, or the ISK seller who can't keep a low profile.
I'm sure some of Fallout's Favourites will be along shortly to point out that the stupidest is actually me.

I'm sorry, Wrangler, but I'm having a hard time buying this. Phished account? Maybe/probably, but ISK sellers have too much to gain by quietly embezzling from an account as "juicy" as an alliance director to just throw it all away by doing something as blatant and attention-grabbing as disbanding one of the biggest names in the game.
