Earlier this morning I was in the middle of replying to a post made by Roguehalo.
This is the post in question:

I give people 90mil randomly all of the time. It's easy to write off
Specially if you stole it in the first place
My response was pretty short: Emphasizing the fact that if I steal money from one person, and give portions of it to other people, more people are made happy than are made sad. And this has how it has always been for me.
I've always felt my scamming was justifiable as long as I gave some of the money back to different people. I thought if I made some people happy, it would outweigh the pain another person would feel from being scammed.
After all the recent events that have taken place, I'm starting to realize how this line of thinking in no way compensates for the damage I have done and the people I have hurt. Because of my actions, I am completely unable to participate in channels that I enjoy, or even take a role of responsibility in a place I care for. In fact, people don't even believe I can care for other people, because of the mistakes I've made. It's a terrible feeling to see someone write that about you.
As a result of all of the recent developments, I realized that scamming is not something I can do anymore. Besides the fact that it directly impacts people detrimentally, it also prevents me from participating on the forums and providing input in threads and actually have my voice heard.
Any attempt to be honest or straight-forward in my posting is shot down and claimed to just be more lies. I've never thought of myself as a liar, only as performing tasks in and out of game to earn money. But never dishonest when speaking of myself or the things I cared about. But I realize now, it's only a matter of semantics, and I was just forcing myself to believe something that was untrue.
I know I can never truly recover from such a deep hole I've dug for myself, but I can only begin to take small steps toward proving I would much rather be seen as a contributing member of the community, rather than some kind of leech that only lurks around to steal.
The first steps in the process will be repaying all of those that I have wronged. The process will not be immediate, as a lot of liquidation of personal assets will have to take place. I will also likely be taking a very large private loan out from a friend.
Obviously the direction of the thread cannot be controlled, but I'd like primarily for the discussion of the thread to focus on other efforts I can focus my energy toward to continue on the path of recovery.
If you have been scammed by me: Please, post in the thread, preferably with the character that was scammed, what sum of ISK (or rough estimation of the value of assets that were stolen at the time), and any evidence to help prove the authenticity of your claim. (Either a post showing your investment of shares, or a chat log, or screenshot, or anything.)
Obviously the hope is that anyone who claims they were scammed by me is not making it up, but as seen with Curzon's Dax payback, it's easy to lose track of who lost what, and it'd be best if information is provided on an individual basis.
Please, understand that this is a genuine effort on my part to recover from the past mistakes I've made. I genuinely do realize I've wronged many people and would much rather be seen in more positive light.
Any ideas or thoughts are welcome.
I'm so sorry.

Hi Everybody,
I'm sorry I scammed y'all and I really want to be everybody's friends again. So, what I'm going to do is give your isk back, but its tied up in Ebank right now. Having said that, if you want to get your isk back, I will need 50m in order to pay off high level BoD member which will of course be added to the total isk to be returned to you.
Thanks, Janiries |

This should be deleted. I didn't even bother reading what you had to say, because once you are known as a scammer you will always be known as a scammer. Send your char to the grinder and start anew. Nobody is going to trust you, that is unless they are intoxicated and/or blind.
Sorry to be a troll but there is no point in trying to be liked by the MD again.

I'm skeptical about this. And I even if I come around to believing it, I'm not sure I would ever trust you with ISK (just to be on the safe side).
BUT, if this is sincere, this is a nice gesture Riethe. I hope you keep it up. And just in case this is sincere, I don't think people believe that you are incapable of caring - or at least its not the majority opinion. Everyone cares about something, and I'm sure there are lots of people you care for and probably wouldn't scam, I'll just never be certain who they are even if you tell me.
But either way, this is a good post for you. If you're just trolling, congrats, this is a very good "apology". And if you're sincere, then congrats, this is a very good apology.

Where's the catch?
In the short time I have been playing I have seen that Riethe has an ulterior motive for almost everything he does. Whether it's a grab for attention or a lead-up to something bigger.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this, but after what I have seen, I won't be holding my breath.

Riethe, I am one of the people who considers you a thief and a liar, which is why I never take any notice of your posts. Until now.
The cynical part of me does not believe you now. The other side of me hopes you are serious. However, actions speak louder than words, so I will reserve judgement until you take action to repay those you stole from. These additional actions would be appropriate: 1. Cancel your proposed bond offering. 2. Post the names of all your alts here, including inactive accounts, biomassed characters, and those you have sold. 3. Submit to a full audit from VV of all your characters.

I think Riethe wrote an excellent post.
If we need to look at this from a pragmatic view, what could Riethe do to repay the community?
I know for a fact that people can change, and people do change. But the person must be willing to commit to that change.
I am not saying we should trust Riethe with billions of ISK; however I see no reason to exclude him from the community if he promise to stop scamming.
It is impossible for him to repay everything he has stolen, however to make up for that;I propose a thought of community service, similar to the one he was already supposed to be doing in the SCC-Lounge.
I am actually glad that Riethe saw that his ways could not be justified because of a game mechanic. And I believe him when he says he has changed.

All I can say is that my life is pretty plain I like watching the puddles gather rain
And all I can do is just pour some tea for two And speak my point of view But it's not sane, it's not sane
I just want someone to say to me no, oh, oh, oh I'll always be there when you wake, yea-ah You know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today So stay with me and I'll have it made
And I don't understand why I sleep all day And I start to complain that there's no rain And all I can do is read a book to stay awake And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape Escape......escape......escape......
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain You don't like my point of view You think that I'm insane It's not sane, It's not sane
I just want someone to say to me no, oh, oh, oh I'll always be there when you wake, yea-ah You know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today So stay with me and I'll have it made
And I'll have it made And I'll have it made, oh Lord no no You know I'm really gonna, really gonna have it made You know I'll have it made Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh, ahhh

If you are sincere, then great!
One way to demonstrate your sincerity would be to repay your most recent victims first -- such as the ones you used to document on eve-scam.com. Having them confirm their refunds here would go a long way to showing you were sincere -- but there will be lingering doubts until older victims also confirm repayment.

This. I can't believe some of you even consider this as a sincere apology.

I'm quite sure you're smart enough to know this would have happened in advance, you were well aware of what the consequences of your scamming were going to be, no matter how you much try to present it.

Where exactly on your site are the statements of you playing robin hood? Whatever you're trying, I find it pathethic that people still try to give you a chance.

When I wrote up EVE Scam, I definitely did feel that way. New developments and circumstances have made me realize how wrong my actions were.

You've never felt strongly about something, and had it shown to you in different light and felt completely different about it?
You can quote ANYTHING you want from me in the past... How does that change what I feel now? Of course in that instance my line of thinking would be to just start fresh.
But then again I never realized the damage I was inflicting. I justified it internally and a I always found a balance. But that balance was unrealistic and selfish. It was hurtful to others.
