Posting from my friends alt to avoid problems.
Yesterday ruined everything.
I was helping a friend with her L4. I won't use her real char name but let's call her Jane. Jane's mission was in lowsec, but it was Angel Extra so we figured we could blitz through it real fast. I don't usually fly my machariel outside of highsec, and she'd been teasing me about it so I thought it would be just about the best chance I had to prove her wrong all at minimal risk. Sadly I was mistaken.
We went to the last highsec system and Jane logged on her alt to scout the gate for pirates. The gate was clear and there was only a two week old guy in the system, so she logged back to her main and we jumped in together. That's when it all went down the drain.
On the other side was an outlaw armageddon. He must have showed up just before we got ready to jump. Jane was panicking on vent and I felt my heart drop. We decided that whatever he had fit we could tank him because we were prepared for his damage type. Jane wanted us to turn and fly back to the gate, but I promised we could take him down. There's no telling what would have happened if we tried to run, but in afterthought it's probably what we should have done.
We broke our cloak and started pummeling the pirate. He returned fire focusing on Jane's CNR, but he was into armour and her shields were still strong. My hands were shaking and I could hear blood pumping in my ears. For a while it looked like we'd make it, but before we knew it there were three more pirates on the overview.
They came in a dominix, a typhoon and a frig. One of them were repairing the geddon so I yelled at Jane to go for the gate as fast as she could. I'd try hold their attention in the meantime by mocking them in local. She hadn't even made it to 10k of it before they cynoed in a thanatos at the gate. We lost both our ships and Jane was podded. I barely get away from the smartbombs on the typhoon. She was crying, and that's when I made the biggest mistake of my life.
Jane logged off before I could say anything more, so I docked up at the only station in the system and began explaining what had happened to my corp. They got pretty worked up about it too. Our CEO, "Dave", told me to keep the pirates occupied and they would try to get there with a fleet to get revenge. We're only a 12 man corp, but Dave managed to convince some pvpers from our alliance to gang up with us. I don't either of us expected what happened next.
I was having trouble getting the pirates to talk in local, but they were docked in the station with me now. I sent mails to the carrier pilot to keep him occupied. "Craig" and "Jim" from my corp was in our gang now. We also had a dread pilot from our alliance, his alt in a cyno frig and four hacs that were his support. It took them nearly an hour to get in place, but the pirates didn't move so we were feeling optimistic. Craig jumped in from highsec in a raven. The bait was set and catastrophe was unavoidable.
Sure enough, the geddon was still on the gate. They started fighting at the gate and Jim jumped in in a drake. It didn't take long before the pirates in the station undocked. When my mates confirmed that they were coming to the gate, the hacs from our alliance jumped in to scramble the pirates. Shortly after we had Lennys alt in the system deploying setting up a cyno. Seconds later Lennys moros was in the fight. I was going to join them in a shuttle when I noticed local spike.
I'm not sure if it was a thirdparty or allies of the pirates, but someone had cynoed in a capital fleet ontop of the gate. Right after he lost his dread, Lenny left the fleeting accusing us of setting him up. One of the hacs got away, but all the other ships were destroyed. In return we'd only managed to take down the first cyno frig. It was a tragedy, but the worst wasn't over yet. |

It would prove to be all for nothing though. After a long argument we were kicked out of the alliance. Now Dave was furious at me for the stuff had still had in their stations in 0.0. So to add insult to injury I got kicked from corp and blocked. Everything was falling down around me. I undocked the shuttle to return to highsec, but the typhoon from earlier got me on the gate. I wasn't only kicked when I was down, I was stomped and spit on.
I respawned in Dodixie. Without my implants, without my mach, without my corp and having let Jane down. I don't even know where to start to try salvage something from this catastrophe. |

Hey :D You managed to do a "Restart game" in EVE :O Well, I guess you learned from your mistake...
Also about people crying for losing ships
You could try offering to pay for the lost dreadnaught and see if you can get back into alliance.

Does it count if he asked his friend to post it for him? I'm not saying thats the case, just wondering if it counts as account sharing. Since he's still using someone else's account for his purposes.
And what if by "friend" he actually means family member?

Yeah, but a good yarn all the same. How to die in Lowsec in the worst possible way.
Was in a gang that had something similar happen... in Amamake of all places, you betcha. Wandering around and corpie calls a Lachesis on the gate. We jump in from one system away, with an Amarr FW fleet in pursuit. Warp to the gate with about 5 BS and a handful of sentry worthy cruisers and set to the Lachesis. Up pops a cyno and a thanatos appears. We turn on it while it reps the Lach (which was hurting bad by that point). Another thanny appears, then a nid. About that time people started bugging out. A poor hyperion slightly behind the curve lands on the gate as we scatter, lands on a blob of, by that time, 9 carriers and a Lach and dies horribly fast. In the end the hostiles had 10 carriers on the Osoggur gate and for their efforts got one poor sod in a hype.

A: Give up and quit EVE. 'Lose' at EVE.
B: Dust yourself off and carry on. 'Win' at EVE.
If your friends ditch you over the loss of a few pixels, you are probably better off without them.

Ya dude, maybe tanking a geddon with kinetic/explosive might be part of the reason why you failed so hard there. Also, DONT ENGAGE ON GATES WITHOUT INTEL... even if this is a troll (which I think it is), let this be a lesson for everyone else. Don't shoot a pirate suspiciously engaging not one, but TWO battleships neither of which have a warp disruptor. You can't jump the gate if you are agressed, so the smart move would have been to slowboat back to the gate with whatever speed mods you had set to overload.

A couple of thoughts.
1. If you ever find yourself your a friend crying over the loss of a little digital internet spaceship, then I think it's time to take a step back for a little perspective. EVE is a game. The ships we fly are little digital models. A few lines of code. A collection of pixels on a screen. You haven't lost any real friends in real life, hon. I'd not get too worked up over a little in-game corp drama. It happens, and it's part of the game.
2. On that point: Welcome to EVE.
3. Don't fly what you can't afford to lose (both fiscally, and in this case emotionally).
4. Epic pirates!

I always hate this kind of weak rationalizing, yes EVE is just a game with internet spaceships but that doesn't mean that people don't put in alot of soul and effort into the game.
It's really no different than an old man dropping his model ship that he's been working hundreds of hours on, it's just some wood, paint and glue. Heck, it's really not any different than losing a key game in a low-profile sport like curling.
Many of us may dismiss model ship building or curling as silly and unimportant, that doesn't mean that they are to everyone.

No, I totally understand that - people invest a lot of time into EVE and losing a prized ship stings.
But if you're ever at the point where you find yourself saying that an action you took in EVE was "the biggest mistake of my life" (as the OP did), it's time to sit down and reconsider.

I feel your pain (once lost dual 2-boxed Maels), but well-established pirates probably ain't noobs, which in this case, means they have tons of deeply powerful stuff gathering dust looking for an excuse to be used.

EVE is a game. The ships we fly are little digital models. A few lines of code. A collection of pixels on a screen. You haven't lost any real friends in real life, hon. I'd not get too worked up over a little in-game corp drama. It happens, and it's part of the game.
That's what seperates the men from the boys, if you truly have a passion for your ship building then you say "**** it" and start making a new one, and learn not to drop it next time :P

seeings how i'm only like 2 months into this game, and my pvp experience is seriously limited, this may not mean much coming from me. but honestly didn't you kinda bring that misfortune on yourself? i feel your pain for having lost a ship. truth be told the few times i lost my ship i was ****ed (even lost a retriever full of stuff on my move to my corps base. who said high sec was 100% safe lol) but i got over it in like 20 seconds and continued bissness as usual. in my opinion getting back at someone right after they killed you is a huge mistake. you know, revenge is a dish best served cold and all that one should always expect one's target to have pals. the signs where there; that group was organized, since it's organized it stands to reason they may have had back up. since they were already organized and set up it could have mean they had a defensive advantage as well (which they did) if you guys just wanted till another day and picked them off one by one you would have had your revenge. or just not get revenge at all it only leads to destruction (lol it really did in this case)
but the messed up thing about this story is the way the corps acted. well maybe it's strange to me becos i'm still new to the game but damn to kick someone just becos they "think" it was a set up is a bit much to me.

If true, lol.
I'd tend to believe this was true simply because something similar happened in one of my old alliances. It was a classic 0.0 carebear corp full of industrialists who can fly hacs/recons and think they are leet pvpers. One of the directors gets his ratting bs killed in a belt, decides to be a gun ho warrior and take on a 10 hac roamin gang in a solo carrier. Promptly dies, emorages, gets into ANOTHER carrier (a corp carrier this time), and goes after the gang who by now has moved a few systems out. He was able to attract their attention with his cyno alt, hotdrops them and gets killed AGAIN. In his disbelief of a getting his carrier killed by lowly hacs and EW, he accuses the corp and other alliance directors of being cowards for no backing him down. Then he gets promtly gets booted out and rages on the forums...
Thats what happens when a full time carebears get their hands on carriers ( or , even better, dreads) and decide to pee-vee-pee with the baddies.
By the sound of the alliance and its pilots, you are better off without them

it was really the dread pilots fault for even engaging without superior numbers. and the leaders fault in not realize they cyno'd one cap in, they can cyno more in. and it was your fault for simply not jumping back through the gate. since obviously, there are no women in eve, and he was simply your sex slave.

They were in a Mach and a CNR. Just get your ass on the gate and tank while your aggro timer cools down. The pirates didn't have THAT much DPS on the gate initially, they could have easily made it.

You guys should explore lowsec in like frigates or cruisers before taking faction battleships there there and cynoing in a dread. The pirates were most likely sitting at a safespot near the gate but off grid, so you can't see them just by visually checking the gate need to scan the vicinity, and had a cloaked alt observing the other side of it so they saw your juicy faction battleships coming in. If you did 360 scan around you would have picked their ships up.

Footfist,
Don't pay attention to the negative posts here, although some of them do make for an amusing read. Take them as such.
I feel bad for your loss, what a beautiful ship in EvE to see sploded. You did your best to help a friend and were having fun doing it. You said as much, quite simply your attention lapsed, and it happens to everyone. Very bad timing is all.
Without knowing you or your corp workings, I would say it's unfortunate that your corp would view the whole thing as a set-up, when you lost what was most certainly a jewel in your hangar.
Tough loss, take a breather and come back fresh, lesson learned.
Safe travels.

1st its an internet game, nothing more nothing less.
2nd be glad that they kicked you out. everyone joined in on the fight on their own will. no one was forced to do it. losing and then blaming someone else for their own faults is so typical for some human beings (replace "human beings" with names and flames at will)

Edited by: Lord FunkyMunky on 28/01/2010 13:14:05 I dont get this honestly, i mean i get the story, and its a good story, you and a friend lost your ships, which sucks greatly, you then managed to garner support from corp+alliance to try to do some damage to the pirates, the pirates outsmarted your group, and managed to completely annialate the dread and corp mates etc...
Umm...
So its a lost battle? Really? Thats what the alliance/corp came down on?
Theirs only 1 thing i see wrong....
Quote: Seconds later Lennys moros was in the fight. I was going to join them in a shuttle when I noticed local spike.
You werent part of the fight? WTF, Ok that was pretty epic stupid, of course they think you set them up you werent part of the retaliation fight that you organized, they look at it as you just walked them into a trap and didnt have the balls to fight alongside them, you should have got a BC and been out their fighting with them and then you would have avoidded this dark cloud.
But either way if you explained why this was and they were sitll asshats, then the alliance and the corp SUCK! I have friends in my corp, friends i've known via eve for over a year and if i walked them into something like that they'd shrug it off buy new ships and say "oh well we learn from our mistakes". The way your CORP reacted is just gay, allianc eon the other hand, ya they tend to be a bit more strict when they think they've been betrayed and thats sort of understandable, but the corp to drop you means it was a bad corp.
EDIT:
OH and suggestion, next time you get pinned like that, DONT WAIT!, If i pirates got you and a friend locked down , SCREAM IN INTEL FOR ASSISTANCE, don't wait till after you've lost 2 ships to organize, call for help from alliance and corp mates in the area, try to win the first battle, not wait to organize for a second after you have no ship.

Exactly. Which is why you never engage anyone in Eve, since they are probably organized, have backup, and their backup is likely even more organized and have even more backups. Unless of course you have more backup, in which case you just crash the node.
Although i must agree that fielding one dreadnought with a few HACs as support isn't the smartest move regardless.
Originally by: tribalfreak but the messed up thing about this story is the way the corps acted. well maybe it's strange to me becos i'm still new to the game but damn to kick someone just becos they "think" it was a set up is a bit much to me.
Welcome to corporate spy conspiracy paranoia.

People crying on vent for loosing a virtual ship... damn. Nothing that can`t be recuperated in 2-3 months of L4 whoring .
Also if the character "Jane" is a girl irl I wouldn`t mind venting with ya and cheering you up (gief nude pix!) . ------------------------------When in doubt... drink that last beer and GTFO! |

Agreed.
There's no other game I can think of where you could fail so gloriously and go down in flames like this. All because of a few minutes of gameplay.
I'm still a newbie and many months away from venturing into 0.0 but hell if I'm not inspired by this story. I just hope whenever I get my first 1b+ ship blown into pieces it will as epic as this. XD

Edited by: Trellish on 04/02/2010 15:32:45 TBH, I doubt this one is a troll at all.
Are you referring to the righteous-indignation dudes who were camping in the Mifrata area? We ran into their gang late last night, but unfortunately for them we had a blob nearby so when the carrier showed on scan and later dropped out of warp it just sorta sounded a beacon call.
They were good dudes, put up a good fight, no emo at having a patch of bad luck. GF's in local. I'm sorry you lost your stuff, and maybe it helps to know they were killed shortly afterward, however they seemed like a bunch of pretty good dudes, willing to take a chance to get a fight and to accept loosing out on the chance due to bad luck meeting of meeting a larger gang and to post GF's in local. Don't take it to personal. TBH these sorts of things are what eve is all about.

It's not your fault that your CEO and alliance are noobs. Never heard of people being kicked for trying to get revenge. It's not like your imbecile of a CEO couldn't have simply said "meh, just let it pass". So don't blame yourself. Blame your corp and alliance.

I like you

Sorry to hear about this, that is really rough. (Yeah I'm not as internet tough guy gangster as the rest of the people here).
I am kinda surprised to hear you didn't kill the geddon. If you guys would have re approached the gate, let him aggro, let the gates help you out a bit, killed the geddon, then deaggroed you would have been fine and would have gotten a kill.
Honestly, the best corse of action is to do what any action hero would do when they lose everything they had... REVENGE! Do it slow, and do it right, use an alt, maybe buy one, but get someone in there that you can stab them all in the back with.
Good luck!

Sounds to me like the Alliance and Corp were full of the most fail. All you should have to do is apologize to the CNR girlactuallyaguy.

If it was a Girlactuallaguy do you maybe not think people might have noticed by now in vent? They do exist you know....
As for the story. Why I love EVE. Only this game could have created this scenario. Brilliant. As for your alliance and corp, to be honest you sound too good for them! |

To be frank, the first girl I ever got on vent from EvE was actually a guy...that sounded like a girl. Kinda funny in hindsight, if you weren't one of the corpies flirting with her over vent before the big news. |

We actually have two girls in the corp. (And one guy that sounds like a girl, but (s)he doesn't count). So they do exist. They're just rare. Funnily enough, they are our most bloodthirsty members ---- The Demigodess with a Conscience - An EVE IC Blog
