So, I was buying my groceries this afternoon, and I spot a guy wearing an EVE T-shirt. Thankfully he could tell my Danish was a bit crap and switched to English. Bumping into EVE players may not be rare for some people, but I live at the top of Denmark, in a town so tiny it doesn't even have a cinema. So the odds of bumping into another player is slim to say the least.
This guy, however, turned out to have played from day 1, and currently has 112million SP. The odds of bumping into any EVE player was remote enough, but surely the number of people still playing from release must be tiny!
So, where have you bumped into people that play EVE?

Friend of a friend was visiting said latter friend, me and said latter friend were arguing, friend of friend was holding back his urge to make a comment about the argument. I pushed him and he made a comment comparing the length of the argument to the time between the BoB Disband and their Reform as Kenzoku.
I was in sheer shock. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Exterminator.
No, seriously. My roommate at the time and I were having some pest issues, and when the exterminator arrived, we were on some CTA or another, so I let the exterminator know we were a bit busy with the game. He asked what we were playing, so I told him EVE, so he responded, "Really? I've been playing that game for about two years," and asked what we did in EVE, asked about what corp/alliance we were in, etc.
It was pretty random, but kinda cool.

I went into a coffee shop in Afghanistan a couple weeks ago and there were two people sitting there playing EVE on the crappy wireless internet.
Some people just need their fix I guess.

I used to work at a Radioshack in Washington. some guy came in and said he needed a headset for Eve. We talked about mining for some reason, but I never got around to asking him his alliance.

Me either, but with only around 60k active players* spread out across the planet there's little chance to stumble upon other players accidentally.
*yes people, I know ccp likes to think there's a real live person behind each and every one of the 310k accounts but anyone who plays the game knows most of those accounts are alts.

In the subway. I was in it with one of my buddies and was wear my EVE tag holder (mp3 player holder for me) around my neck, when some girl asked me to see it just to make sure she had seen right.... and she had! I know, girls in EVE... hard to believe! ____________________

At work.
Had a sales coach coming to sit in on some of my client calls, he sees me reading some forums before we get started and asks me what I'm reading about. Tell him it's a game I play, internet spaceships and shooting people in the face kind of stuff. So, we get down to the calls, and while I'm on the phone with a client, he scribbles down two character names and tells me to add him to the buddy list when I get home. Knew the guy for ages before this, but we'd never talked games.

Edited by: Ben Derindar on 15/03/2010 22:21:07 On a work-related mailing list I subscribe to, I remember a discussion a few months back about how best to describe time when organising people overseas for meetings or whatever, to use your time or theirs etc, and how people do it in casual situations as well as in business.
Well, I dared to mention that in the MMO I play, I'd become accustomed to thinking in GMT/UTC when arranging ops. A few minutes later I was directly e-mailed by someone asking which MMO it was out of curiosity, saying she plays Eve Online.
So it wasn't a literal bumping-into-anyone, but still a cool surprise.

In a police car.
When I was dating my ex she crashed her car into a ditch after she picked me up from work. A copper gave us a ride back to my home and while talking he asked me what I do to get through the long shift as I worked night-shift as a security officer. My ex unenthusiastically mentioned that I spend all my working hours playing a computer game called Eve (she hated it) and to my surprise the copper started talking about how he was an Eve player too. As my ex was outnumbered 2 to 1 she kept quiet.

I meet other EVE players routinely. Though it helps to have the Gurista Bunny tattoo'd on my left forearm and the 4 Empire logo's on my right forearm. Mall. Grocery store. Pet store. In line at the movies. Once in a corner store.
First one was about a year and a half ago.
"Hey, is that the Gurista Bunny?" "Yup." "Cool....So How long you played?" "2 years so far" "So Bob or Goons?"
The conversation when downhill from there. :)

Weirdest place for me so far would have to be in a police station. :\ One of the admin guys there was updating his skills on a laptop while on lunch.
A couple of the guys at my local TA base have Guristas tops, though I haven't really had much chance to chat with them since my time at the base is usually spent fixing things.

I work in a salon, fella came in for a hair cut this week, he removed his coat to show a minmatar eve T-shirt. We had a yap about the game etc. Its the second time this has happened, I have a policeman that pops that played but has just given up the game recently, I still keep him up to date with all stuff going on in eve.

Also, was hanging around with one of my friends, playing Modern Warfare 2, when he boots up his laptop and logs on to EVE. I never knew a WoW-addict could do it =P
