As per the GMs Rx, i will post. (although i know it will get flamed to death.)Posting under and alt.
This has not been a very good day for me. I am a miner by trade. My account has been inactive for a very long time due to cash flow problems. I read that i can use a plex to reactivate my account so i petitioned a gm for a 24 hour reactivation so i could buy a plex with the last of my isk and start mining out another plex to continue playing. I applied the plex and started sorting out my skills to pick up where i left off.
The next day i took my hulk out to a belt and started chewing on the omber. I did this for an hour when my GF started talking to me so i took my headphones off. I turned my head for a second and when i looked back at the monitor......i was floating in my pod with concord swarming the belt. I now have kill rights on some douche as my only reward. It wasnt until then that i learned of this stupid griefer holiday.......If i would have known, i wouldnt have undocked. I am not one that cruises the forms or pays attention to local in highsec, so i was unaware.
Ok so i lost a ship....big deal right? Very big deal. aside from the 308 mil for the plex and the 200 mil loss of my ship...thats 508 mil for those of us that failed math hehe, i am completely busted. I have no way of farming out another 300+ mil for another plex to keep myself going. My only means of farming it out has been destroyed. My best ship now is a cruiser and my best agent is level 1.
I honestly dont know what to do. Unless a miracle happens soon i cannot renew my account in less than a month. This hulkageddon has been alot of fun for those players who delight in making others miserable but in this case, its cost CCP an account. I know it is within the game mechanics but how many players are willing to lose isk for a killboard stamp and 5 minutes of giddiness? Not a whole lot i bet. Throw a 3 bil prize to that and everyone would i bet. At this point it becomes a problem that i am betting the devs had not thought of. I wonder how many other miners out there live in a 70+% unemployment rate town with a crappy min wage job that solely timecodes to keep playing they game they love? How happy does it make miners in high sec when a 'holiday' like this occurs and for a month they cant mine? Something like 2 weeks of this plus a 2 week cooldown or some crap. I am guessing that this holiday inflates the prices of mining ships fittings and possibly the price of ore and minerals.
I have no way to continue playing in 28 days. So i guess my account will default and i will hit the stumble button in firefox till i catch a virus.... This really sux. I have 1.2 mil left i will play anyone who will hunt the dude down that killed me or the instagator of hulkageddon.

Go join a 0.0 corp and mine some arkanor so you can afford to replace it or just don't spend every penny you have on one item in the first place. Either way, problem solved. Don't blame hulkageddon for you financing high end ships with newbie ore.

I am (very likely) going to get into trouble for saying this, but it must be said. I'm not saying this to be mean, so please let me say sorry in advance. I'm not a mean spirited person when I post in forums. I am what people would define as a carebear miner. I have yet to explore PvP.
Here we go....
Your misfortune was your own making. Your loss was the result of your own negligence by underestimating the scope of effect Hulkageddon III would have.
You, through the forums, per Helicity's website, on chat channels, were warned of what was to come.
You could have done the following things:
1) docked your Hulk and tried something other than mining 2) docked your Hulk and used less expensive and more disposable mining vessels, as my corporation has chosen to do during our Odatrik Ore-A-Thon. 3) Went into your location with adequate protection and 100% awareness of what was going on around you without distractions.
You chose to take your Hulk into the belt despite all this. The gankers came and you were left in your capsule floating home and lost your Plex.
Again, I feel bad for what has happened to you. It's not easy to lose things you invested your time in. I've been scammed and while I have yet to lose a ship, I've lost things through carelessness when someone took my jetcan. I do not, however, feel sorry for you. You could have avoided the situation you are now in.
For what it is worth, I hope you are able to learn from this lesson and recover from this very serious loss.

A few things I need to point out I guess:
- not being aware of what is going on in the forums is /fail on your behalf. Or would you just fire up your chainsaw in any forest and start cutting trees, without first making sure you know the environment(al dangers) ? (providing that would be legal)
- Only keeping one ship, your hulk in this case, and selling off all your fallback options is /fail.
- Unemployment rate in your town while you have a minimum wage job is moot.
- If you get a retriever you mine a bit slower, but you should still be able to manage. If you can not even buy a retriever you just left me wondering how the **** you got into a hulk in the first place. And only lvl 1 agent access is kinda hard to believe .. I know of no miner that isnt interested in standing for the sole purpose of refining. ========================== Nothing is true, everything is permitted. ========================== |

As replied above, you should never, ever, EVER fly something you cannot afford to loose. You should've had 1 hulk and the money to buy and fit out another one.
You'll always have your Noob ship to trade, mine, do missions, whatever. With 1.2M you'll also have the option to go out in a frig/cruiser doing the same thing, you're never without options.
Are you in a player corp already? If not, get in one and show a lot of activity in the next weeks and perhaps they'll chip in to help you in one way or another.
An emergency buying a GTC is always an option but if you're low on RL cash, there's nothing this community can do for you.
Suck it up and deal with it one way or another. Next time, keep tabs on the forums, ingame news and corp mates and fit your hulk with a bit of a decent tank ffs. .. ... .... .. .... .. .-. --- - .- -. .- -.- .- A bullet, Laser beam or Plasma charge may have your name on it..... A Smartbomb or Shrapnel is adressed "To whom it may concern"... |

Let me get this straight. You petition a GM for game time (I didn't realize you could also whine yourself to some gametime...also there was a five days free playtime for inactive accounts thing going on lately), you mine while Hulkageddon, you lose your hulk out of your own negligence, now you go to the Forums to whine more and get ridiculed my the community... I really don't know what to say. You are either a 0/10 troll or maybe your mum dropped you to often?

I'd head straight for lvl4 mission grinding if I were you. Sure it takes time getting the standings, but it's worth it. Try teaming up with some mission runners and get some free standing from them.
Should you happen to be in Domain, drop me an ingame mail, maybe some of my friends can help you with standings.

Forewords: the following might be sligthly harsh
Next time remember EvE is not a game where clueless randoms live their happy and oblivious life.
- NEVER fly what you cannot afford to lose
- Your choice of staying ignorant about the game living around you is yours truly and consequences are just fitting the choice
- Your choice of going in one of the relatively few obvious gank places is totally yours. Ofc you blame external factors but guess what, even if you were at the keyboard you'd die anyway.
- Your account has no value to anyone including CCP. They'd open the gates to China farmers if they really cared to have one more farmer ship AFKing around. The "WE ARE PAYING CUSTOMERS HENCE WE ARE GODS" garbage is always spewed by losers, tossers, those who got nerfed because of overpowered <place here lame stuff ie L4 missioning> and has NO grab neither on the other players nor on CCP. Expecially the latter, have more to lose at catering to the above categories than by losing some lower quality subscribers. - Auditing & consulting

Many people do learn the "don't fly what you can't afford to loose" lesson prior to being able to invest 500 mio ISK.

That's your first mistake, you're better off mining just about anything else but omber isk wise.

Really bad advice in this thread. Is it a pre-req in this forum that you need to act a pecker head to participate?
Hulkageddon = fail for EVE. Wonder how many other accounts have been closed.
