I think a lot of what CCP is doing for the game is good, (incarna, dust etc..) however its date to release is all a while away. Im sure the game is to improve drastically however its gonna take a bit of time from the looks of it.

Yes, I believe that - warts and all - this is the biggest, most complete and (subjectively speaking) "best" MMOG to date. At some point I'm sure it will be surpassed but given the seeming aversion to anything sandbox-related within the most recent batch of MMOG's, and those slated for release in the next year or so, someone is going to have to take a leap of faith and buck the themepark-trend that has been so prevalent in the last few years.
the new Star Wars MMOG coming up is getting a lot of oooh's and ahhhhh's but from the information that's been made available so far, it's going to be a themepark. A multiplayer themepark.
I honestly believe EvE will remain at the top of the niche market indefinitely, as themeparks eventually lose their luster, whereas the more you dig in a sandbox, the further you go. .

CCP has made a great game. Otherwise, we wouldn't care about it so much. Kudos to the CCP Devs and to the players for making our game and our community a fun place to be. As for the whiners, you ladies need to quit and go play WOW.

the only way eve would die is if CCP introduced a patch which completely ruined the game. as it stands right now, id wager 10% of people are truly unhappy to the point of not logging in, 10% of those 10% are willing to quit, and the rest 90% are willing to wait until ccp either makes or breaks eve again.
id consider this a fair assessment. i actually fly amarr |

Originally by: Dances WithWolves Edited by: Dances WithWolves on 12/08/2010 10:38:50 Lag is bad, PI is crap and waste of resources, eve gate / spacebook online is crap and waste of resources, market is crashed and crap, sov mechanics crap, industry sov index's crap, plexing now crap, drone regions not having npc constellations is crap, I have more but short story, ccp = crap.
So why do you play it?
Personally Ill let the fact I'm playing eve speak for itself. I wouldnt be playing it if the game wasnt good. All games have their share of problems and same goes for eve but in the big picture CCP is doing a good job.
But they need to fix hybrids

It will remain on top for a long while because noone is attempting to replace it. Atm everyone that makes mmo's are trying to take wow's customers or make some simpler game like an mmofps. I have been looking around for a new mmo and they are all the same crap.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Eve is a terrible game. Yahtzee was absolutely right. The complexity is largely accidental (shove enough detail in a game and it looks like depth), the UI is tragic, the gameplay is largely dull, content is sparse (excused partly because so is space) and it is full of bugs and poor design choices... like the fact a large portion of the ships in Eve have no redeeming value and the highly questionable SoV mechanics. Added to that the developers are clearly over-commited and unable to keep the aging Eve maintained (if you can't track a major regression in 9 months your code base is in serious trouble and your testing process failed).
At the same time there is no other MMO that allows players the freedom to build empires on such a grand scale. Whether a financial / Industrial empire in safe space, a band of blood thirsty pirates in low-sec or a mighty space empire in null-sec. So as such Eve is fascinatingly unique and the players have seized and feuded over the global map and generated character in the process. Of course if CCP loses that player dynamic, which is also part of what draws people into the game, then all that is left is an empty void.
The lack of any other even moderately decent sci-fi MMO's (STO /laugh) doesn't hurt either. That and the skill training system has made people strongly bound to their characters as they don't readily "level cap" as in other MMO's which has done a lot for retention.

Terrible compared to what?
I have never played a mmo that has even closely the complexity of eve. Accidental or not. The UI is very much serviceable although it would be best simply to be able to customize it. Obviously it's impossible to have a GUI that pleases everyone.
Very rarely did I have any dull moments and considering most of the content is player generated I don't see how it can be sparse. As long as enough people are playing it. But that's the concept of the game anyway.
The game is actually relatively bug-free. Take a look at warhammer when it was released for example. Heck, even wow has quite a few bugs that haven't been fixed for years! And considering the design choices - well that's just your opinion.

Eve was great.
Eve is still good.
Each eve extension we have less and less working.
Eve will no more evolve if CPP don't fnish the Dominion and tyrannis extensions.

Lag does not affect me (anymore), but my pet peeve with EVE are stations located on the dark side of planets / moons. I move around a lot, and sometimes I come across a station that meets a number of requirements and characteristics that would make it just the right place for a certain endeavour or another... except that when I undock, instead of indulging my celestial body fetish, I'm presented with a large disk of nothingness filling up my screen... Dark Side of the Moon belongs on my stereo, not on my computer.
I have other minor issues with EVE, such as the little space gnomes that hide in dark corners of my spaceship and sometimes interfere with my communications, inserting into them random gibberish, wanton insults, David Hasselhoff songs or simply gnisrever ym sdrow, all of which makes my interaction with others rather challenging at times - but other than that, there's no other game that even compares to EVE.

Yes.
I have played other games from time to time and always come back to EvE.
Is EvE perfect, NO.
But it is whole lot better in so many ways then anything else out there.
And yes does EVE have time sinks, YUP and in case you didn't know that is the whole idea behind a MMO, you spend lots of time doing things and if your lucky you NEVER see end game. That is value for money.
Not spend 20 Euro, Dollar whatever only to hit end game in one or two weeks, that in my opinion is a waste of money.
But hey to each there own, instant gratification is over there with those other games.
I prefer to waste years playing a game.

Because there is no alternative to what eve gives I would rank eve as 1/1 making it the best, the worst and the most played game like itself.
Eve ranks:
1/1 for everything because there is no competition.
The day competition comes, I fear eve will turn into that joke you talk about with your friends how you wasted 7 or 8 years of your life on a game that was not worth it.
Until that competition arrives, eve will still be worth it.
The views expressed above are not those of my corp or an expression of where my corp stands.

Played for 7 years and though all the changes I have been ok with them till recently in the past 3 years I have seen this game going down hill Hardcore
#1 I would say CCP problem really became apparent with the ôneed for speed changesö CCP dose what they want and could careless how it affects the game or displaces the player base who where used to how the game worked prior to the changes this isnÆt a very good plan in subscription based game
It seems ccp isnÆt in the business of small tweaks but likes to shake the etch a sketch completely clean again and draw a new picture rather than tweak. Again this really has horrible effect on the player base as whole I would imagine I am one of the few who has played there game this long most get fed up and bail with all these constant changes.
#2 Sov Changes holler really hold up your going to change the Sov Mechanics after 6+ years? Seriously CCP Dudes make an eve 2 and leave us the Hell alone we like our game ?
#3 PI great a way to budded up 0.0 after bending them over the fence with sov changes give them the majority of pos resources and make running a pos more expensive in empire than in 0.0 due to the plentiful amounts resources à again **** off another demographic of players seems ccp is good at that. So now fuels in empire are 10-15x there original cost again MAKE EVE 2 and stop ruining EVE 1
#4 I can only imagine the train wreck that this walking in stations expansion is going to be is there a point? or are you trying to attract the wow demographic of mmo players sence you seem to be losing them hand over fist I am betting so after hearing about dust its obvious to me your hard pressed to get more players your even trying to field the console and fps market.
Some critical concepts that make Encarta a fail or a win, dose it add anything useful to the game if its going to a place to play cards or get your cyber junks off thatÆs a waste of dev you could add new models or fix other problems in the game.
Over all here is what I see a lot people who love the game when it benefits them and screws over the old player base but those same people will be next in turn for the bending over so whatever
Yep canceled my accounts and taking a break if Encarta is a joke designed like a bug attractor for wow mmo losers to get more cash I wont be back over all I never say I am totally quitting

Yes, although I it feels that CCP has been giving a lot of resources to Dust and WOD online. But can I blame them for trying to get more sources of income, I guess not. Eve is still the best MMORPG out there.

You know when a game is over it is just over.
IF anyone has played Elite, Ultima (NOT the MMO), Wing Commander, even EQ1 or any game really with a campaign mode it is not about finishing the game.
It is about the journey that makes the game. When you think back on those games you don't think I finished them in 3 days or 7 days. You think back and remember this mission was a @*&^#$, and completing this task I had to.....
FPS's are the zero content go in kill this done in 30 minutes move on games.
Unfortunately it seems this ideal has been long forgotten in most mmo's or maybe it is just the players that have forgot. So as long as CCP & the players don't forget it is the journey that makes a game then EvE will continue to be the best game out there.
And when EvE does finally end will I say I wasted 17 or 18 years playing the game. NO I will simply say I played EvE for 17 or 18 years and I remember when I had too.........
