Seems a Jap band doing a gig in America is more important than the 14 million suffering in pakistan and russia burning to the ground
Ya, pretty much, who cares about floods in china (too many people) who cares about a ex congressman, just some dirt bag... russia can burn idc, (cold war already "burned" them once... out of cash) again more floods to not care about, YAY it rained... Oil spill... again... to care why? We just dealt with one... and who cares about pakistan? Really comes down to... we do not care...
Guess people can't understand we a nice little island... news about canada/mexico is all that matters...
Well. Because of the fires in russia they have stopped all export of wheat. This means that all products that use it are going to go up (wheat is already going up on the markets). So the fires are going to impact all of us as russia exports a huge amount.
And then there is problem of the fires getting very close to a huge nuke research plant and the chenoble site. Which is very bad news as they already failed to stop the fires torching a naval base.

The media coverage about the Haiti disaster was way bigger. I guess that's why CCP didn't jump the help-wagon yet.
Also, did you know that you can donate money at many places? Red cross, to name one. Don't cry about CCP's intentions/motives when you can act by yourself.

Edited by: Riaqu on 12/08/2010 23:10:16 Wow, there are some truly disturbed people posting in this thread.
A few quick remarks:
- The Pakistan flooding is a huge disaster, affectig many millions of people. To compare it to Wisconsin is... absurd.
- Study after study has shown that the average American knows much less about "the rest of the world" than the other way around. US media and its population are very inward looking compared to most other nations.
- The US government's foreign development aid (USAID, budget support, etc.) is very low compared to other developed countries in terms of GDP. This is partially compensated by higher private donations, but even then you will find that the US is somewhere at the bottom.
People who hadn't heard about Pakistan: please try to read a newspaper once in a while. It's good for you.

Yes, we here in the U.S know all about the floods in Pakistan.

Okay so, wait, the USA exports food, we just stop OUR exports, and eat what we make... so ya I do not need to care still. If russia goes boom from nuke, again, does not effect me. Infact! It be less people to feed! and would help with that lack of wheat, that I still do not care about.
When something is gona make oil go to 1000$/b let me know. I need to care about that.
August 11 USDA's August WASDE sees global wheat production, use and ending stocks down...by less than 10%. USDA now expects little if any additional Russian wheat exports this marketing year, but expects other exporters like the United States to fill the gap (its U.S. wheat export forecast is up 20% this month to 32.7 MMT) and still have ending stocks of 26 MMT (952 million bushels).
So again see YOU (if you are not in the usa) need to care, I do not. I keep my wheat, let you starve.

Probably because Haiti got a ****load of media attention, and CCP wanted to jump on the good publicity bandwagon.
I wouldn't be surprised if they took a nice tax deduction for themselves as well, essentially profiting from Haiti.

Oh hell no, I never willingly donated any noteworthy amounts of money to any charity in my entire adult life, and I plan to keep it that way at least until the day I die. I also get a horrified/disgusted look on my face whenever I see anybody giving any money to a street beggar, and I am not ashamed to show it (in fact, if it's anybody I know, I scold them for doing it). If anybody ever donated anything IN MY NAME to any charitable organization, they would never hear the end of it.
P.S. If I could get the choice, I would opt out of any form of social security too.

OP,
I work for the Red Cross and I would encourage you to donate your time and money to any of the NUMEROUS humanitarian efforts we are making across the globe. If you're waiting for some corporation like CCP to pitch in for PR kudoz before you give anything, you're no better than the people that you're accusing of being callus. There are plenty of ways to go about it other than trolling EVE forums with senseless **** like this.

I read the newspaper on September 12th, 2001. At that point it became obvious that both the government and the MSM were useless. This is clearly a signature. |

But I've also worked for charities in the 3rd world, so I might be a special case.
Pakistan flooding hasn't received any of the news/airtime it deserves to be honest. I honestly think it might be a bias from general Americanism/Newscorp/Western mentality not to show something that might demand sympathy in an Islamic country. As opposed to, say, a Christian country like Haiti. Pakistan is a tricky country that doesn't ever feature favourably in any western media, they pretty much walk the line of the "Rogue State" attitude that the media shows towards countries like Iran, for example. (Incidentally, this, in my opinion is complete bull****)
I do wonder what the media response would have been if this had happened comparatively in.... say, South Africa and conversely somewhere like Iran.
The flooding has effected a greater number of people (14 MILLION) than the entire population of Haiti, but - and here's another big thing that determines news coverage - the death toll stands at something like 1,500 as opposed to the 90k-200k that died in Haiti.
I have this overriding hatred of all things biased news related, and this is another case of something that should be front page and in everyones minds but is brushed aside for stupid reasons. (that may differ from the above, admittedly)
But as per the topic. CCP can't do a plex drive every single time something bad happens in the world. What are they going to do, set up a bodycount meter that starts up plex donation when, say, 10,000 die? I honestly think the Haiti drive was a bad idea. YES, you should give to charity, YES you should give lots, frequently, YES if it even raised a dollar extra compared to what would of been donated had the drive not been done then it was worthwhile.
But it sets a precedent that CCP probably can't keep up with.

That is how things have been working in that region for centuries. Over all this time you would think that we would have figured out how the minds of the individuals that control power blocks in the region work. Unfortunately we have been unable to bridge the gaps the run through all of the cultures that habitate the region.
