If you remember back to the Haiti earthquake CCP decided to run a PLEX for Haiti campaign, First time CCP ever decided to show a "humanitarian" face, Yet before that never decided to PLEX for Tsunami, Pakistan Earthquake, Hurricane Katrina, Or any other natural disaster.
Now we have an even bigger natural disaster affecting 14 million people and CCP has done nothing, So my question here is, Why does CCP choose to raise funds for certain disasters but not others? What is the criteria for which CCP must do something to help? Is it that CCP only helps certain Nations? Races? Religions?
Some clarification on this issue would ease some of the restlessness within the game.

I might be wrong (don't want to speak for him) but I took it as a dig at the nature of reporting in this country, rather than at American aid.
If you live outside the US for a while and check out other news sources, you'll understand better what he means (assuming I understood his intent correctly). .

Floods in china, the air crash with that ex-congressman, the fires in russia, the floods in poland and germany and an oil spill in brazil that came from nowhere.
I spend 8 to 12 hours at work with nothing but BBC news 24 for company They play ABC world news on weeknights at about 01:35 to get the "American view of the world" and 9/10 times it has nothing on the world. Seems a Jap band doing a gig in America is more important than the 14 million suffering in pakistan and russia burning to the ground

So, haiti 2million out of 9 in an already damn poor country got done over by the earthquake. Poorest country in the "rich" west to boot.
Pakistan 14mill (ish) out of 166million, in a state that is comparatively wealthy compared to many. Ask your oil rich muslim buddies for their famous charity (1 of the 5 pillars after all). Hell, Pakistan is certainly more wealthy than haiti - its a nuclear nation. Sell your bombs to india in return for aid :)
As for why CCP isnt doing anything - it could be as others said, down to press coverage.

PLEX for Haiti blog (2010.01.29) "We at CCP have been following the devastating impact of the earthquake of January 12 on the people of Haiti. [...] In 2004 we assisted a collection amongst EVE players to help with the Southeast Asia Tsunami relief efforts and we have figured out a way to use our PLEX system to facilitate such a collection again." So, they DID collect money for the tsunami victims, and it took them over 2 weeks to get the Haiti thing going (17 days, actually). The Haiti thing was heavily reported all over the place, the reports of flooding in Pakistan, not so much... for instance, I heard about the Haiti earthquake mere hours after it happened, but I first heard about the flooding in Pakistan IN THIS THREAD.

Well. Because of the fires in russia they have stopped all export of wheat. This means that all products that use it are going to go up (wheat is already going up on the markets). So the fires are going to impact all of us as russia exports a huge amount.
And then there is problem of the fires getting very close to a huge nuke research plant and the chenoble site. Which is very bad news as they already failed to stop the fires torching a naval base.

Edited by: Riaqu on 12/08/2010 23:10:16 Wow, there are some truly disturbed people posting in this thread.
A few quick remarks:
- The Pakistan flooding is a huge disaster, affectig many millions of people. To compare it to Wisconsin is... absurd.
- Study after study has shown that the average American knows much less about "the rest of the world" than the other way around. US media and its population are very inward looking compared to most other nations.
- The US government's foreign development aid (USAID, budget support, etc.) is very low compared to other developed countries in terms of GDP. This is partially compensated by higher private donations, but even then you will find that the US is somewhere at the bottom.
People who hadn't heard about Pakistan: please try to read a newspaper once in a while. It's good for you.

Okay so, wait, the USA exports food, we just stop OUR exports, and eat what we make... so ya I do not need to care still. If russia goes boom from nuke, again, does not effect me. Infact! It be less people to feed! and would help with that lack of wheat, that I still do not care about.
When something is gona make oil go to 1000$/b let me know. I need to care about that.
August 11 USDA's August WASDE sees global wheat production, use and ending stocks down...by less than 10%. USDA now expects little if any additional Russian wheat exports this marketing year, but expects other exporters like the United States to fill the gap (its U.S. wheat export forecast is up 20% this month to 32.7 MMT) and still have ending stocks of 26 MMT (952 million bushels).
So again see YOU (if you are not in the usa) need to care, I do not. I keep my wheat, let you starve.

Oh hell no, I never willingly donated any noteworthy amounts of money to any charity in my entire adult life, and I plan to keep it that way at least until the day I die. I also get a horrified/disgusted look on my face whenever I see anybody giving any money to a street beggar, and I am not ashamed to show it (in fact, if it's anybody I know, I scold them for doing it). If anybody ever donated anything IN MY NAME to any charitable organization, they would never hear the end of it.
P.S. If I could get the choice, I would opt out of any form of social security too.

There are plenty of ways to go about it other than trolling EVE forums with senseless **** like this.

Yes, we here in the U.S know all about the floods in Pakistan.
Two reasons why we aren't going 'balls to the wall' as we most always do to any major disaster anywhere in the world.
A) We are broke B) We figure it will help cut down on the terrorist population
You know you're talking about your allies, right?
What do you expect from a nation that funded terrorists that attacked its closest ally for 30 years
Although what he said is classic ignorant 'American' fluffery or plain old trollery, don't come in here acting like the US is the only nation that has had their hands in the cookie jar known as Arabia/Middle East/whatever you want to call that region.
It's absurd? I guess the folks in wisconsin should htfu. Their lives aren't as important as others.

But I've also worked for charities in the 3rd world, so I might be a special case.
Pakistan flooding hasn't received any of the news/airtime it deserves to be honest. I honestly think it might be a bias from general Americanism/Newscorp/Western mentality not to show something that might demand sympathy in an Islamic country. As opposed to, say, a Christian country like Haiti. Pakistan is a tricky country that doesn't ever feature favourably in any western media, they pretty much walk the line of the "Rogue State" attitude that the media shows towards countries like Iran, for example. (Incidentally, this, in my opinion is complete bull****)
I do wonder what the media response would have been if this had happened comparatively in.... say, South Africa and conversely somewhere like Iran.
The flooding has effected a greater number of people (14 MILLION) than the entire population of Haiti, but - and here's another big thing that determines news coverage - the death toll stands at something like 1,500 as opposed to the 90k-200k that died in Haiti.
I have this overriding hatred of all things biased news related, and this is another case of something that should be front page and in everyones minds but is brushed aside for stupid reasons. (that may differ from the above, admittedly)
But as per the topic. CCP can't do a plex drive every single time something bad happens in the world. What are they going to do, set up a bodycount meter that starts up plex donation when, say, 10,000 die? I honestly think the Haiti drive was a bad idea. YES, you should give to charity, YES you should give lots, frequently, YES if it even raised a dollar extra compared to what would of been donated had the drive not been done then it was worthwhile.
But it sets a precedent that CCP probably can't keep up with.

That is how things have been working in that region for centuries. Over all this time you would think that we would have figured out how the minds of the individuals that control power blocks in the region work. Unfortunately we have been unable to bridge the gaps the run through all of the cultures that habitate the region.

What a pathetic thread.
There's plenty of things wrong with Eve but there's absolutely nothing wrong with CCP not donating money to every single humanitarian fund just because it donated to one of them.
Would you prefer CCP and all businesses the world over chose never to donate money to relief funds?
CCP tries to do something nice for a group of people in a time of crisis, a few months later they're getting bull**** from tards like you because they dont do something nice for everyone in a time of crisis.
Maybe they should sell their business and give all the proceeds to the Pakistan flood relief fund.
Idiot.

Err, no, how do you deduce that from my post?
My point was that the floods in Wisconsin are unfortunately the type of disaster that is fairly common (on a global scale) in terms of people affected and economic damage.
It is deeply tragic for the people affected, and they deserve support. However, these scale disasters happen, unfortunaly, all the time. Unless you work for OCHA/Relief Web/specialised NGOs/etc., you cannot be expected to be aware of, or donating money for, all such events.
The floods in Pakistan are special because of the sheer number of victims and destruction. In terms of deaths, wounded, people who became homeless, or economic devastation, you cannot seriously compare it to the situation in Wisconsin.

YES IT IS! And it really ****es me off that you can be so ignorant to compare Wisconsin flooding with the Pakistan disaster! I had to read up on that flooding because yes, it hasn't been mentioned in German media. And now I know why:
That flood "caused one confirmed death". ONE! You know how many have died in Pakistan and how many will die? Not to mention the differences in medical treatment, supplies, clean water and so on.
Let's hope you're just a troll with bad taste of humour.

And yet my $100 will mean just as much to the homeless Wisconsin family as the homeless Pakistani family. Indeed, it may mean even more, as the relative difference to the Wisconsin person is likely greater.
If you choose to donate to ANY needy cause or person, good for you. But no one is more deserving than another. The family of the one dead person in Wisconsin could use my $100 and is just as deserving of it as the family of any one dead person in Pakistan.
I choose not to donate to Pakistan because, while I feel bad for what has happened to their people, I do not consider them friends.

You understand we are talking about humanitarian acion and relief efforts here, right? It's about preventing more people from dying because of typhoid, malaria, geater flooding, and children who lost their parents and who have no one to support them.
There's nthing wrong with supporting Tsunami-hit countries, but that would now fall under development aid, rather than humanitarian relief efforts.

If you're really looking for honesty, Pakistan and Haiti were **** holes before their respective disasters, and no one was speaking out then, especially Haiti, whose children had to eat cookies made of dirt to survive. No one had a problem with that, at least until an earthquake interrupted the dirt supply, then its all like, oh noes lets help Haiti, everyone that doesn't help is a monster. Pakistan, quite the **** hole. But you weren't posting about it before the earthquake. But now suddenly you care. I'd be more inclined to believe your desire to help was genuine if you weren't trying to pass off grand gestures, which are ultimately going to help little in the long run, as some sort of evidence of moral superiority. If you truly want to help those people, then stop wasting your time trying to guilt other people into helping, roll up your sleeves, and get started helping them yourself. I think you'll find that if you focus more on what your doing, and less on what others are doing, you'll get more done (you will also not come off as a pretentious douche).

To touch on a minor point in this train wreck of a thread...
I wouldn't worry too much about Russia or anyone that depends on their wheat. We (America) will keep them afloat if necessary along with anyone that depends of purchasing Russian wheat.
We generate tremendous over supply's of wheat, and even donating huge amounts of food in humanitarian aid (which sometimes is left rotting on the receiving countries docks by their own government) we still have to pay our farmers NOT to produce food.
It may take a while to set up, we may need to break open our own reserves in the short run, but we'll do our best to fill the gap. It just takes awhile to get wheels that big turning.
As far as the Pakistan situation, I agree that for various reasons it has not gotten the media coverage that is needed. Our political relations with them are... complicated... but I really wouldn't care if their government was our worst enemy. Politics aside, I think most people in the world community recognize when a nations population is in trouble and want to help. We may fault a population for the political stance their government is allowed to take, but we don't want their children to suffer or starve.
It's not CCP's responsibility to start a charitable drive every time something goes wrong in the world, although they have shown a willingness to do what they can. Nor is it our responsibility as individuals, but if you are at a place financially where you can help out this time please do so. Good links to do so have been provided.

Very often in these threads, there seems to be a missunderstanding with respect to people sounding critical of the US.
It is not the country that is being criticised, nor the "American way of life" or anything like that. There are some amazing US NGOs working in development corporation and humanitarian action.
Rather, it is the segment in the US population (or any other population, for that matter) that posts things like "just let that terrorist population die", or "never heard of the Pakistan floods", "they didn't help us durng Katrina" or "nobody cared about Haiti before" that make people cringe/shocked/ouraged/whatever.

Edited by: alittlebirdy on 12/08/2010 23:56:51 wisconsin is in the north...
"food" for thought... This is for the USA
Of the 49.1 million people living in food insecure households (up from 36.2 million in 2007), 32.4 million are adults (14.4 percent of all adults) and 16.7 million are children (22.5 percent of all children).
17.3 million people lived in households that were considered to have "very low food security," a USDA term (previously denominated "food insecure with hunger")
Acccording to a Cornell University sociologist, the need to use food stamps is a common American experience that at least half of all Americans between the ages of 20 and 65 (four out of ten Americans in their adulthood) will face
While studies show that food insecurity and hunger have been tied closely to chronic disease development and impaired psychological and cognitive functioning in children, 13 million children live in US households that must skip meals or eat less due to economic constraints.
Why donate to a ONE TIME event in another county? 14million PSH we got that many KIDS who need food.
CCP please PLEX for the kids of the USA.

If you want some more sad info, I can name probably 30 people every month that sell their food stamps for 50% value. The people getting them don't need them and end up with cash to buy non food items and the people that buy them end up with twice as much food that they would have had.
Thats why the entire program needs to go, and if people starve to death, well tough ****!

(note different dates for quotes so, numbers are close... more than one source used...)
CCP please PLEX for the kids of the USA.
You should go and work for while for an NGO in eastern Congo, Southern Sudan or any other of dozens of countries that have a tiny fraction of US economic resources. That will show you true poverty.
I do think, however, that poverty in the US is a disgrace (given its vast economic resources). However, allowing such poverty is a political choice that the elected officials in Washingon make on a daily basis. Don't like it? Vote differently next time.

Sure
A country should take care of itself. No matter how big or small it is, it should not send or receive foreign aid. Countries have more important things to spend their money on in their own country than to worry about anyone else.

Your naivety astounds me, truly. You'd be unwilling to accept help - that could save thousands upon thousands of lives based on the fact that you don't think that countries in the world should help each other?
There's a Roosevelt quote about giving aid to the UK during world war 2. Paraphrasing, it says that if your neighbours house is on fire, you don't just ignore them or barter for use of your hose - you let them use it to put the fire out.
And god knows how much foreign aid was given to the US for Katrina. Hell, I even donated to a Katrina aid fund. (I'm British)
You also kind of miss my point. What happened if the USA got so badly done over by natural disasters that it was *unable* to cope with the destruction, to the tune of thousands (millions) of lives? You'd refuse foreign aid out of what.... pride? Haiti's entire infrastructure got destroyed. Foreign aid saved thousands upon thousands of lives. You'd condemn those people simply because they had the misfortune to get hit by a natural disaster?

Don't get me wrong. I donated PLEXes for the Haiti fund, and in RL I donate when I can to help out others here in the US and abroad.
But if all countries saved the money they spent per year in foreign aid and invested it into their own country. Most countries would have a healthy reserve of supplies and money to see them through most* diasters.

That's maybe true for some richer countries during a good (disaster-light) year, but certainly not world-wide (not even close). Katrina cost more than the sum of all of the US development aid during the decade that preceded it.
Also, do not forget that a lot (perhaps most) development aid is tight into geopolitical interests. European, Chinese and US aid to subsaharan africa has increase dramaticall, recently. Why? Because it gives them access to natural resources in that area of the world. My point is that a lot of "foreign aid" is not truly charitable, but born out of self-interests.

Most Western countries, yes I kind of agree. If instead of giving foreign aid we used the money at home we'd be creating a better life for ourselves/creating safeguards. But you'd also be condemning thousands in other countries to death and disease.
For a start, most third world countries don't give aid so couldn't use this invisible budget to buffer themselves in case of disaster.
I'd rather money be used to deal with disaster as and when they happen, as opposed to sitting in the pockets elsewhere "Just in case."
I'm a big believer of money going to the places that'd save the most lives. To me, for example, if the US suddenly cancelled their foreign aid budget and put it all into education or healthcare (for example) - yes it would improve your quality of life in the US, but it would kill more people than it'd save. The idea of that is kind of abhorrent to me.

Basic fact: No one cares if black people are killed in massive numbers anywhere in the world.
Only time this changes is with really small countries where people feel sorry for the "little guy" ( East Timor/Haiti)
My personal hero is Robert Pierce who founded World Vision. Not because of the charity side of things, but its profitability plan is just...genius. They have a specialty in raising money across the world to "save" young african kids from starvation and death who then grow up and have kids of their own which then feed back into the marketing machine because now the next generation of children need saving.haha
Now before especially you yanks get on your high horses about how wrong all that is, if you have not been to those country's and seen it all first hand and look around trying to see where the billions of dollars have gone then STFU.
Charity is the best form of business because you can sell something you don't own in order to make capital that no one see's where it is spent! I love being rich and white :)

I sadly have to agree with this. International charity/aid is broken in many ways. I have seen the huge amounts of money wasted through corruption and poor management. But that doesn't negate the fact that there is a tremendous need for international cooperation to reduce poverty, malnutrition, etc.
I'm just afraid to disuss it in a thread like this because people will use it to defend less involvement/money going to poorer regions, whereas what is really needed is a change in the way richer nations go about development cooperation.

So people are complaining about CCP not donating money, or not asking us to donate money to every disaster going on in the world?
So...why not have CCP start a charity of their own? Not a charity event related to one particular disaster, but a charity organization that's constantly funded from within an on-line game. You could then donate to it at anytime via PLEX, and CCP will at regular intervals distribute the money where they think it's needed. It would also give the economy gurus at CCP something more to put into the QEN. |

Look at all the poasting by people from a third world country, living behind their Iron Curtain, wanting to bomb Australia because they have no clue where Iran is, going abroad to Florida because they're from California and not having won a single war ever, apart from the civil war and that's only because they were fighting themselves anyway.
Natural disasters are a way by nature to curtain humanity? Guess where the perfect place is where nature can start, it's a place nobody would miss.
And CCP: you're not only incompetent but also hypocrites. A Nothern American country matters more than some Middle Easter one? Disgusting.

+1
This could work quite well, with ingame ways of donating ISK. They could even set-up a dedicated NPC corporation.

Unfortunately, the human suffering (vitcims, devastation...)in Pakistan is many, many times greater than in Wisconsin. Plus that it happened in country with far less capabilities to help the victims. See the difference?

Pakistan is rich enough, they don't need more money. Their GDP is more than 100 billion US-$, they can afford a huge army and nuclear weapons.
If their own government and executive is too corrupt and incompetent, to allocate the money for the sake of their own people, then it is a shame. Besides, it got revealed that more than 70% of the international aid during the last 30 years never reached the designated destination but somehow 'leaked' elsewhere and vanished.
So, no.
If you want to aid, go ahead, you are free to do so. |

If it wasn't for France the US would have been crushed by Britain in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. The Revolutionary War was literally a "gang bang Brittan" war where about a half dozen countries decided to seize the day and get some territory. France trained and Armed the Colonials.
The "War' of 1812 was just a skirmish in the Napoleonic wars. PS If you "win" a war, it generally doesn't involve your capital being burned to the ground. Britain attacked the US to keep them from joining Napoleon. They didn't care about much else.
Anything north of Panama in the Western Hemisphere is considered North America. People still consider England part of the European continent even though it is an island.

You have the power to initiate it yourself and to have a direct influence on the game's universe and your humanitarian ambition.
It's very simple really: Dock in Jita 4-4, buy 74 plexes (maybe round it up to 100), undock and wait.

What a Company or Individual gives to charity is a personal choice and none of your business. If you are so concerned, why dont you make a donation.
I know a way you could free up an extra 15euros a month that you could send to charity.

The word hypocrisy is applicable to many charitable actions but not in the way the OP intended. Giving to one charity but not another is a choice that we all have to make, you can not give to every good cause.
What is hypocritical however is a computer company organizing plex aid for Haiti while ignoring the Congo. The DRC is a huge source of coltan which is used to make microchips, by keeping the DRC in a permanent state of warfare we depress the price of microchips and companies like CCP get to profit from the fact that computers are cheap.
The 1,500 people who've died in Pakistan are a small drop in the ocean of blood that pours out from Nigeria, Afghanistan, DRC, Sudan and other mineral rich countries. Bringing peace to these countries and allowing them control over their natural resources would lead directly to a rise in the cost of consumable goods.
The voting population of any democratic country will get rid of a government who decrease the standard of living by letting the cost of computers and consumables rise, as such it is hypocritical for anyone who lives in a democracy to give money to charity because the worst humanitarian disasters are voted for and condoned by the populations of these countries.
It seems to me that the least hypocritical thing CCP could do is donate plex money to projects associated with colonizing the moon or otherwise safeguarding the human race by getting the fek off this volatile ball of molten iron we call earth. _______

Every year there are thousands of natural disasters and crises around the world - CCP could not reasonably donate to all of them.

The nuke is something like 60-70 years old. Could probably buy one from Russia for a couple months pay at this point.
Would be some good times getting that through customs.
It doesn't work that way. Nukes have to be continually tested, maintenance and upgraded. You don't just store a nuke and forget it.

There is no restlessness in the game over this issue, noone cares, stop pretending to speak for anyone but yourself.
If you dont care then why are you trolling? Also looks like your the one speaking for everyone when you say "noone cares", what you meant to say is you dont care which is fine by me but why you posting here.
Take a look at the entire world. NO ONE CARES. That is why the UN started begging (whining) for countries to start donating. The fact that CCP doesn't do something has nothing to do with Hypocrasy. Then can choose to support what they want.
And the fact is there is NO restlessness within the game, your post is the first one I've seen.
All the survivors will end up doing is piling into a boat and floating to some other country to beg for hand outs. And as one other poster said this is the las place to look for sympathy. People are here for fun...

CCP has put in effort in the Haiti thing and we can't keep expecting CCP to donate to everything that happens in the world.
To respond to the plex changes:
While CCP idea of making people able to move plex around obviously makes CCP more money, it's not like they force you to risk undocking with plexes or force you to convert real money into plex in the first place.
Like everything in this game, it's a risk vs reward, CCP has been making money off people doing dumb things in the game ever since they made you able to convert real money into isk.
It's not like CCP has 10 mill active accounts, i do think CCP needs it money to be able to do what the players ask them to do (see CSM).
I say CCP keeps it's money to employ more people so the game gets improved faster & it's good for the economy as well (wich is also a disaster for some countries).

Well Pakistan has spent a fortune on a nuclear weapon program. To counter India's nuclear weapon program. This is typical military calculus for a state. A strong state to protect its citizens. This overides providing simpler help to citizens such as electricity, water, schools and hospitals. If you are killed in a way that also affronts the country your from then politicians will make you a martyr, rally and swear revenge. If you are killed in another innocuous way such as been run over. Then you will get attention from only your immediate social circle and family. Strange world eh.

I don't subscribe to these helping by donation ideers most of the time. There are fundamental problems with it.
Namely, 1) Sometimes helping isn't helping: Sometimes you can unknowingly crush the livelyhood of citizens in target country, IE donating a bunch of clothes... I heard a sad story once about a group shipping boatloads of clothing to help a country, and by doing so, put a large part of the population out of work as their products couldn't compete with free.
2) Accountability, expenses, administration - where do the funds go? When you donate money to a company or organization, it not only gets held up in the pipes for ages, a lot of it 'disappears' amidst the various expenses and things involved.
If you want to help, either physically donate your services, OR find a group of people who are organizing a trip or something and help fund their project somehow. Or donate to an organization that clearly defines how much of your money is going where.

Charity is best done to organisations that spend the money directly on projects like water, electricity, schools, hospitals. Giving money to countries as charity is a waste of time. They will spend it on a fleet of new Mercedes limosines. On militery, etc.
The USA does give countries like Pakistan money. Its to keep them onside. Though the USA once told them follow our policies or we bomb you back to the stone age.

If a major disaster strikes and the eyes of the world turn that way and people want to help, and by proxy gain something (good PR) does it cheapen the help? Does it somehow make the help worse? Another major disaster strikes, but the eyes of the world are turned elsewhere, sure, many see it but not everyone. Is it wrong for the people who did help the last time and perhaps saved countless people not to send aid this time? Does this make the previous assistance look like an evil ploy that the people used to further their own agenda? I have helped some charities, I have donated to improve peoples lives slightly when that same money might have bought someone else meals for a week. Does this make me a bad person? Sometimes I donate because I have extra money and it might mean I buy one less six pack etc this month. Sometimes I have donated to look good in front of my friends. Is the latter donation any less helpful than the previous one?
At least ccp did help by allowing players to give plex to one cause. Maybe this thread will prompt them to start another plex aid program.
Anyway, I hope the people in Pakistan will be safe and won't suffer. I will not be donating to this cause personally since I can't afford it. __________________________

It's ironic that some people are saying Pakistan dont deserve help because they apparently support terrorism. I find it ironic because when terrorists blow up a bus with children on it and try to justify it by saying their country dessecrates their holy land... or something, while the western world wonders "what did these kids ever do to deserve this?".
Kids are dying in Pakistan and you dont think they are worth helping because you believe Pakistan support terrorism.
So, what have those kids ever done to support terrorism?

I don't see it being racially or nationally motivated really I mean what is the connection between CCP and Haiti? Maybe they are in the process of organizing it. At the end of the day CCP is not obligated to help anyone but themselves and anything they do other than that is above the call of duty. Also helping out with every natural disaster in this naturally disastrous world sets a dangerous precedent that CCP will donate every time there is a natural disaster as illustrated by this thread.

There was a discussion on the news about comments exactly like this one. While it may SEEM that the situation is less dire than Haiti or Katrina it is quite the opposite. A flood kills slowly while earthquakes kill quickly, many died in the drowning but many more will die from the Cholera outbreak due to the flooding, and even more from the starvation and homelessness. All politics aside its sad when anyone in the world has to go through this because at the end of the day we're all humans simply divided by our languages, our appearance, and lines on a map.

It'd be well invested deaths, going in with armed relief like in Somalia but Pakistan won't allow it.
Co-incidently for those saying Pakistan never does anything for the world, Pakistan was one of the largest contributors to the UN Somalia operation, as depicted in Black Hawk Down.

So what, we shouldn't help them? Seeing as the US prides itself on being champion of the free world, shouldn't they give a hand? The least they could do during this difficult time is to stop performing illegal cross border assaults with their drones and shooting up civilians.
Not even close. I'm close to 30, and I'm not american. English is not my 1st language, so excuse me on that regard. And I'm not saying we shoudn't help them. I'm saying we don't care. Again, I'm being honest. I simply don't. And without knowing you, I can say you don't care as well. We seem to have different meaning to the word "care" here... as in, you'll help Pakistan? You'll take a plane, go to Pakistan, and you'll build some hospital tents, you will pitch in and send a few tons of food...
Oh, wait. I've done all those things in Haiti, and even helped loading planes to the Katrina disaster area. See? But, hey, if people feel better by donating 10 bucks on their local mini-mart to the Pakistan cause, kudos to you all.
All this things aside... Let's try to be honest. How the news of the flood affected you? You couldn't sleep, you couldn't eat, you just couldn't function without first trying to help in whatever way you could? Of course not. We, maybe something in the human psyche, simply don't care till it affect us personally. --------------------------

Tell me you're not suggesting we let a couple hudred thousand people die before we consider helping them. Heiti was an earthquake, those people (vast majority of) died within minutes.
These people in Pakistan aren't survivors of an earthquake, they're not even survivors of the flooding yet, many won't be, they're trying to stay alive and have no clean drinking water and nothing to eat. It'll take them 3 or 4 days to die assuming they dont drink dirty water, a bit longer if they do and then they'll be dying from the **** that's in the water.
We can help them, that's why we should send what we can. We shouldn't not help them just because the numbers of dead aren't sexy enough yet.

As I said, help them as much as you can. That's good. All I'm saying is that people just don't care, unless it happens close, or they have family there. Or by any chance, the disaster is extremely big, and you kinda want to help.
Again, we all seem to have a different definition of the words "help" and "care". To some here donate 10 more bucks to UNICEF is enough help. I can do that too. Easy. That means I care enough now?
No matter what you do, it will happen again. The pakistani govt will again take no measures to reinforce the river banks, nor prepare proper emergency plans, nor educate it's citizens. And this comes from personal experience, the value of life is completely different on that part of the world.
Don't take it personal. But people just don't care about those countries/regions so far away.

I could flip that statement and say "just because someone writes a book doesn't mean that what's in the book is fiction". I'm an objective and logical person who has been immersed in politics for 15 years now so I've learned that the world is full of lies but in knowing that I've also learned to glean the truth from the scraps of information thrown at our feet. The writing of this book coupled with the fact that the US government arrested 5 marines under charges of **** and murder along with this case indicating how even more soldiers in Iraq are being charged with the **** of girls it really kind of makes me think that maybe JUST MAYBE that Marine may have written the book out of more than self-interest.

It's called freedom. Freedom to choose or associate with the causes you wish. People generally make their own judgments on the charities or causes they support. The criteria used is their business, and choosing one cause over another is commonsense given that everyone has limited resources.
No one has the time or resources to raise funds for every disaster that comes along. You don't agree with how they handle charity? If you have a little to spare or your own business then you can make good on your convictions. That's why thousands of charities and causes exist and why none of us know any one or any business that patronize all of them. Claiming it's hypocritical because someone only gives their charitable devotion to only certain kinds of suffering is ludicrous.

What is the criteria for which CCP must do something to help? Is it that CCP only helps certain Nations? Races? Religions?
Some clarification on this issue would ease some of the restlessness within the game.
Here, let me clarify it for you.
Pakistan death toll so far: about 2.000 people. Haiti death toll: more than 250.000 people.
Pakistan disaster scope: about 1/5th of the country affected, not including the destruction of Islamabad. Haiti: infrastructures utterly devastated. Nothing stands. Capital hit hard, with 90 ****ing percent of the homes brought down. No government capabilities left at all. Communications (even cellphones) not operational.
More Haiti goodness: educational system completely shut down. No school at all for anybody.
All in all, I think that while the Pakistan floods are a crippling disaster, it's still far from what happened to Haiti. Pakistan will suffer a tremendous economical blow in the immediate future...but Haiti was absolutely destroyed in all senses.
I mean, the government is operating from a Police office near the airport. It's like Los Angeles in that crappy Kurt Russel sequel.

How is it any more out of his way than the self-righteous OP who wants to shame CCP for donating to charity and not to all of them.
No-one is happy with the world on their shoulders, do what you can in your community and try to minimize harm in others.
As a closing note I'd like to mention that the Indus valley is very fertile and support a large population, the double edge of that is that that larger population are made to suffer when the river gets too much, or is it the population around it?

Loaning someone a small amount for us - say $30 can make a huge difference to someone caught living on a few dollars a month. With a microloan they could buy some tools\implements that would allow them to fabricate cloths, pottery, tools, etc that give them an income to elevate themselves.
Where this has been done in a legitimate no scamming way, for example in Bangladesh. It has made a real difference to poor communities.
