First time I started up the screen was aligned wrong; upper left corner in the middle of the monitor with all the rest cut off and black. Logged out of windows and back and it was ok. Some minutes later the screen got all jumbled up and corrupted; rebooted and it seemed ok. For the rest of the evening playing eve: Screen freezes yet sound keeps playing. Sometimes screen flickers black and it recovers in a few seconds. Sometimes I ctr+alt+del out and come back and it's recovered. Sometimes it stays frozen and I have to hard reboot. Once I got a full blown blue screen. I hadn't changed anything the day before, but then i remembered a little windows update popup when I shut it off that morning; so my current theory is that I got the bad drivers that way. I'm gonna try 10.9 when I get home, and if that doesn't work i'll try some of the older version. What options are there for driver cleaners? I found one that costs $10. And windows update is dead to me now. Begone.
Dodgy Past Amarr Trans-Solar Works Rooks and Kings	Posted - 2010.09.16 23:06:00 - [64] TBH while it may be useful if something goes wrong I haven't bothered with driver cleaning with the ATi drivers and had no problems going 10.7a -> 10.8 -> 10.7a -> 10.9 Will be glad to be able to play Borderlands properly again as the 10.7s had that annoying memory leak issue.

And windows update is dead to me now. Begone. You don't need a driver cleaner with ATI and Windows 7. NVIDIA and other manufacturers aren't able to make their cards enter limbo temporarily whilst the OS switches drivers - ATI's are. All you need to do is run the "Upgrade" or "Install" option when it appears, the package will tell the card to enter limbo temporarily (your screen will go black), and the new driver will be registered. After that, the older driver is of no use, and isn't referenced again (Windows 7 will make a back-up for you if you want to rollback anyway). So, all you have to do - download driver, install, leave it. Easy. Don't believe me? Delete your old driver folder, and Windows 7 won't complain about a thing (cos it's not using them anymore). ---

Catalyst 10.3 till 10.7 or so (so 4 months?), any quake 3 based game was unplayable on HD 4000 and 5000 series. And almost every game with "hq 3d graphics" from the years 1999-2005 and maybe even later had this engine. ---

Fair point. I'm on Win 7 x64 and haven't used XP for 4 years or so.
mojogore	Posted - 2010.09.17 11:10:00 - [69] make sure to check your fan speed, some new drivers tend to turn it down for whatever reason. A hot video card will cause alot of the problems like black screen, freezing, just a heads up it could smoke your card.
