They do not play well with EVE, at all.
Flickering cursor. Insane FPS drops. Client freezes.
Confirmed with other players who have updated to them. All other games work perfectly. If you want to play EVE, I suggest sticking with the 10.7's for now. ---

I'm still on 10.4. I don't like to update my drivers that often, especially if there's no real performance increase in games I play.

ATI .. oh ATI. Lovely hardware but hapless drivers. Best and worst thing I ever did breaking my ten year love affair with Nvidia ..

OS: Win 7 Ultimate 32bit Card: HD3850 256mb Issues: None actually. Seems fine.
Custom Settings: No AA, AF (set to let app handle). DISABLED Catalyst AI (this is usually the cause of asteroid artefacts etc).
OP should check to make sure his AI is off and he has cleanly uninstalled/installed the new drivers ie. delete C:/ATI after removing the drivers and run regedit to clear out the ATI key/s in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE before installing the new bundle.
Interval One. Some frame drops around gates etc into the 40's but nothing unique to this version of the drivers tbh. No artefacts.
OP probably got trolled - or I did.

Both Win7 x64.
4870 and 5850 have same issue. Another player has the same problem in the Issues & Workaround forum, as do three of my friends (all Win7 x64, varied ATI cards).
Modded my 4870 to use lower 2D clocks when not running a 3D application via ATI Tray Tools. System with the 5870 doesn't have ATT, so it's not ATT causing it. Disabled ATI Overdrive on my 4870, no go there.
The errors only happen when moving the mouse.
Used the ATI update all through 9.11 to 10.8, never had an issue with the update - it's not that.
No other games have issues, just EVE. ---

All driver updates should be accompanied by uninstalling the previous ones first. Yes this can be an issue with ATi drivers unfortunatly... Uninstall and clean the driver leftovers by using Driver Sweeper After that a cleaning run with a register cleaner would do very well. This should alleviate any problems that might occur with duplicate/conflicting driver files. Also disable ATi AI to see if this helps... ___________

Updating drivers has worked flawlessly for me. I just did a clean remove via registry, and uninstalling them and forcing Windows to ask me what to install before it invokes it's useless Microsoft drivers. Still issues (and I removed the old files, before anyone asks). So it's not an issue with the driver update, move on.
Also, nothing to do with AI. Standard, Enhanced and Off all do nothing. All of the settings do nothing at all, meaning it's most likely to do with the way the driver interacts with EVE itself, rather than an actual setting being at fault. ---

This happened to supcom a while back on an nvidia release. Some players would get freaky lod issues with the strategic zoom and others would get crashes or slow fraps. And since supcom was the only game it effected this way it took till the next driver release to get it fixed. Luckily the rolling back one patch solved it so ranked play continued as normal.

Sometimes a company will pick to go with a certain vendor path. Mount & Blade just happens to be NVIDIA. Back in 2004, VALVe went with ATI when producing Half-Life 2, and royally SUCKED for anyone with an NVIDIA card back then. It's just how the industry works, a lot of the time ATI have to work around a lot of issues due to NVIDIA having the cash to splash out and work with developers and lock out other vendors.
You take any game created specifically for ATI cards and it has the same issues for NVIDIA. Yay industry! ---

Everyone blaming AMD/ATI for leaving drivers behind has obviously never ran Driver Sweeper after uninstalling any drivers. Had they don't so they'd have known that no driver is fully uninstalled. But I'm assuming that's too much to ask for those who'd rather blame nVidia or AMD rather than their own stupidity for user made mistakes (I have both brands but prefer AMD's drivers, as they're much better).
OP has given no information on which video card he uses and fails pretty hard at trolling. However, I am going to download the 10.8 drivers and install them myself to test.

It's exactly software vendors' responsibility to provide a clean uninstall of their product. Especially for something as important as drivers. The fact that they just CBA and leave their customers to rely on a third party software speaks volumes.

I am running 2 x HD4850 (in Crossfire mode) on Vista Extreme 64 bit.
Before updating to the 10.8 drivers I could run 3 clients on the same machine (Windowed mode) all in high quality graphics mode without any lockups or display lag.
Since updating the drivers to 10.8 I get display lag even when running 1 client in low quality mode where the client locks up for around 5 to 10 seconds intermittently. When it locks up it sometimes displays the last frame (static frame) and other times displaying a black screen with Windows reporting the eve client as not responding. It eventually responds again but not very good for pew pew. Think I might have to go back to an older driver.

I had major issues with these drivers outside of EVE too. Tearing, black screens, stuff minimizing by itself, textures not rendering properly, really bad artifacting under load et cetera. I thought that maybe the drivers had been corrupted during download, so I re-downloaded them, uninstalled & reinstalled. It Didn't fix anything. These drivers are proper borked, the guys & girls at ATI are obviously smoking something.
Rolled back to 10.3 and everything was cool. Even if it's for a PC you don't use EVE on, don't get these drivers.

Edit: a quick read reveals that OP definitely doesn't have a 58xx card, because that's what the 10.8's are for. Apparently the .ini file hints at the upcoming 6xxx's and could be the first beta driver for them. I recommend everyone with a 4xxx or even 5700 to stick to the 10.5a ones or one that's stable, if you hadn't figured it out for yourself already.
Wow, could you fail much harder? Already stated what cards I use, and the relevant info, including pictures... Funny looking 5850 shaped card with cooler in my case. Guess I must be dreaming? Just... WOW. Stupidity at its finest. ---

Clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit, with fresh 10.8 drivers this week. Graphics: ATi HD-4870X2 Running 2 clients on multiple monitors (2x Dell 2408WFP) at 1920x1200 each in windowed mode, with evemon relocator.
The display looks fine, however when the mouse is moved at all, over either of the clients, that window freezes up momentarily. The mouse pointer also disappears whenever it is in motion (making it very difficult to used it).
Being a clean install, it had no previous driver versions on the system, therefore running a driver sweep will not help your issue.
I have played around with several driver and eve settings, but have as yet been unable to resolve the problem

Running two computers, one with nvidia and one with ATI, both sets of drivers cause an equal amount of headaches. So zeba needs to compare more as i own both and they are both as bad at each other at times.
Also both of them leave remnants behind when you uninstall them.
AMD Phenom II at 4ghz 4 gigs ddr3 XFX 5770 gpu
Horrible problems, lock ups, i reverted for now and all is fine in the world.
Multi monitor especially seems to **** bricks with the new drivers.

I was playing eve sunday night and my client crashed followed by a windows crash to a blue screen caused by a display driver conflict
ever since then the PC will only boot in safe mode OR will boot fine in regular mode if i disable the graphics card, an ati radeon hd 4600 something. Tried updating the drivers, tried rolling back the drivers, etc, and its still totally non-functional
pc works 100% fine with the drivers removed though. so obviously there is some problem with ati beyond just ati+eve. i've seen many many people on other sites complaining about this so i don't think its isolated to just the eve community or just in someone's imagination
my current best idea is to just install a completely new card and see how that goes

The last Ati card I had was some five years ago, and the catalyst drivers sucked real hard. Now it is 5 years later, and all I hear everywhere is that Ati still does not do good drivers.
I do not get that company. Hardware can only be as good as its drivers. Currently Ati has real good hardware, so I would love to get a top of the line one. But meh with the drivers nobody seems to love.

FYI, this is the only major issue I've had with ATI drivers in the last year and a half, maybe even two years. Not sure where all this rubbish ATI driver support crap comes from. Especially since NVidia killed their cards not too long ago with a driver update, and then broke PhysX support on a lot of their cards, and then they broke a ton of OpenGL extensions...
Nowadays, both parties have drivers in the same quality margin. ---

Aye, disable the extended monitor and it solve the problem. If you put it back on, the problem comes back as well. So the problem is related to the extended monitor.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! I can't believe it took me 3 hours of google searching to find this post. Absolute crap performance just turned into silky smooth dual monitor joy!
Thanks!

Edited by: Hagbard23Celine on 14/09/2010 09:15:08 Saphire HD5870 Varpor-X (rev.2) got the same problem. While running eve with open fps monitor (strg + f) I got fps drops from 60 to 10-20 for mostly only a second. GFX Settings are all to high and in CCC (10.8) I set all to use app settings. With 10.7 I din't had this issue.

can you guys/gals/trollers post some information please and what graphics cards you have and if your not using the default setting, what setting you have changed.
thanks
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Intel Core i7 720 @ 2.67 GHz ATI Radeon 4850 HD Graphics Card Catalyst 10.8...
The issue seems to be with the dual monitor setup. When I disable my second monitor, EVE works fine, when I have it on, Flicker and low fps. All my other settings are at the defaults.

Best of luck contacting AMD to fix this. Not sure what the recent dissolving of the ATi branch is going to do for support and contact and dedication to customers but AMD has been seriously lacking in the hardware department lately in terms of quality and endurance. Thanks for the info, although I'm gonna wait for a while before I install the new drivers.
Normally I only update my drivers when something isn't working right with a new game or software. Too bad I broke that pratice with the 10.8 drivers.
I'm gonna stick with the rollback.

10.9's are shown to be wicked. Fixed a few UVD clock issues, and boosted performance in quite a few games. Fixed EVE issues for me. ---

I started having similar problems yesterday.
First time I started up the screen was aligned wrong; upper left corner in the middle of the monitor with all the rest cut off and black. Logged out of windows and back and it was ok. Some minutes later the screen got all jumbled up and corrupted; rebooted and it seemed ok.
For the rest of the evening playing eve: Screen freezes yet sound keeps playing. Sometimes screen flickers black and it recovers in a few seconds. Sometimes I ctr+alt+del out and come back and it's recovered. Sometimes it stays frozen and I have to hard reboot. Once I got a full blown blue screen.
I hadn't changed anything the day before, but then i remembered a little windows update popup when I shut it off that morning; so my current theory is that I got the bad drivers that way. I'm gonna try 10.9 when I get home, and if that doesn't work i'll try some of the older version.
What options are there for driver cleaners? I found one that costs $10.
And windows update is dead to me now. Begone.

TBH while it may be useful if something goes wrong I haven't bothered with driver cleaning with the ATi drivers and had no problems going 10.7a -> 10.8 -> 10.7a -> 10.9
Will be glad to be able to play Borderlands properly again as the 10.7s had that annoying memory leak issue.

You don't need a driver cleaner with ATI and Windows 7. NVIDIA and other manufacturers aren't able to make their cards enter limbo temporarily whilst the OS switches drivers - ATI's are. All you need to do is run the "Upgrade" or "Install" option when it appears, the package will tell the card to enter limbo temporarily (your screen will go black), and the new driver will be registered. After that, the older driver is of no use, and isn't referenced again (Windows 7 will make a back-up for you if you want to rollback anyway).
So, all you have to do - download driver, install, leave it. Easy.
Don't believe me? Delete your old driver folder, and Windows 7 won't complain about a thing (cos it's not using them anymore). ---

Edited by: ivar R''dhak on 17/09/2010 02:21:12 That¦s all nice and dandy for W7, but quite a few still use XP.
But I guess it¦s the same there too when one upgrades from a 10.x driver, as a previous poster described. Not sure though.
Pretty idiotic that this damn GFX driver upgrading is still such a PITA.

Originally by: Grez FYI, this is the only major issue I've had with ATI drivers in the last year and a half, maybe even two years.
FYI this is offtopic but just like nvidia breaks a ton of **** so does ATI. Catalyst 10.3 till 10.7 or so (so 4 months?), any quake 3 based game was unplayable on HD 4000 and 5000 series. And almost every game with "hq 3d graphics" from the years 1999-2005 and maybe even later had this engine. ---

Fair point. I'm on Win 7 x64 and haven't used XP for 4 years or so.

make sure to check your fan speed, some new drivers tend to turn it down for whatever reason. A hot video card will cause alot of the problems like black screen, freezing, just a heads up it could smoke your card.
