Hurray.
More PVE content.
Sometimes I do wonder who whispers into which ear.
Just out of curiosity, you are absolutely sure that this will be a complete feature set, and not a half enabled delivery that has to be iterated upon?

Sounds like an attempt to sell co op gameplay for pve. Except that all you need to do is watch where people come together, and then go in with overkill. Or are those earlier comments of hard caps on participation numbers still valid?

And I must say: Sleeper AI for new massive PVE content <3
I really really really like what is being described in the devblog and if it works like the picture you created about it in my mind I will love you guy's forever (I already love you forever since the introduction of the Tengu but that is another matter)
Can we also get some devblog with pictures of shiny Sansha Mothership pls? -------------

Hopefully "sleeper AI" will be improved for this.
To be blunt "sleeper AI" at present is extremely predictable. What makes sleepers challenging isn't their tactics, except for their propensity for targeting drones which is just annoying, but their sheer dps coupled with very high ehp and RR.
Maybe if the new NPC's meaningfully use ewar and nueting that will make these fights challenging and not just exercises in who can build the best RR gang.

There is no hard cap as such. The reward system is designed to discourage overkill, so while you can certainly dump 500 people into an event, you won't really gain anything from it.

I saw this via facebook: glad to see the carebears are getting some love for a change :P
I've often heard though that you really couldn't field logistics vs sleepers (BS sized anyways) because the AI would FF them (which is good) at ludicrous ranges (which is bad). Is this the case? If so, how will this new content differ to entice good fleet mixtures instead of blobs of remote repair battleships?

They should be behave like most existing NPCs, so there should be a sec status gain. There are no mechanics to take sides in currently, but on the upside, this should provide you with a target rich environment.

Yeah, hopefully tying the rewards to objectives will mean that everyone gets a share and opens up for making different roles within a fleet apart from "damage".

This thing sounds pretty good. Do you mean that all those people have to work for the common goal at the same time in different solarsystems?
If it works, I hope something like this can be applied to pvp/sov warfare.

Well, it looks like CCP have really out done themselves with the next expansion, there is a lot of content there people have been asking for a while.
Reminds me of the Q&A at one of the fanfests where people were asking for more varied PVE with challenging NPC;s in various regions of space. Good to see you're giving the players what they would like.
Looking forward to what else the expansion may bring, good jobs lads

While I love the thought of more PvE content, I hope there's some adjustments to the AI. Drones are extremely difficult to use against Sleepers, while missiles (and other weapon systems) were barely affected. If non-sleeper entities are going to start targeting drones immediately upon launch, this only makes drones an even-less desirable weapon system.
Due to my age I'm well skilled in just about every weapon system available, but Drones were my first preferred weapon system, and still remain my preferred means of dealing damage. --- If you've read something I posted and want to contact me, EVE-Mail me, or contact me via EVE Gate. |

Questions:
1. Are these PvE events going to be the same for HS,LS, or 0.0 or different events for different security ratings?
2. Will the rewards be proportional. By this I mean I mean if the same event for HS and 0.0 will the rewards for the 0.0 event (where a hostile PvP fleet may just show up to "join" the fun at anytime) get more rewards?
3. Will there be fraction and/or officer loot drops?

That's exactly what I mean!
Don't make promises you cannot keep. A quest system with coop mode around PVE content is hardly iterating on Dominion.
Also, nice way of encouraging supercapital blob warfare Rewards mean nothing, nada, zilch, in comparison to the easyness of using the ships en masse man. Especially in target rich environments

Yes, well that part is clear. But in light of recent comments from Zulupark on copy paste development building on Invasion concepts, application to other game elements, and then seeing that comment .. make me raise an eyebrow.
But I trust the mistake of trying to translate PVE coop concepts to a PVP arena won't be made, since it's dealing with entirely different angles of approach.
Edit: some thoughts on the supercapital challenge would not be too much to expect either btw. Genuine concerns, never underestimate your customers in their insanity. Normal human behavioral rules do not apply.

There is a HUGE difference between behavioral patterns in focus on PVE and PVP. applying one to the other is a recipee for disaster, we've seen this before several times already.
What worries me is that this all reads like another nice shiny feature set. Like Faction Warfare. We all know how that ended. To quote someone from irc earlier, introducing this stuff gets you customers, taking care of it and following up keeps them and makes them get more customers.
Oh forgot. What about timers involved. Is this going to be just like w-space site clearing post downtime? Or are you going to introduce a whole new instance spawn trigger mechanism? |

Seriously, this looks really great and I'm excited... but we've been pretty let down in the past when we hear about the new features at this point in the dev cycle and then when we see the "finished" product.
Would you mind listing those things which are "must haves" and which things are "should" or "could" ? I want to know what to reasonably expect before I get my hopes up, as it seems that only the "must haves" ever make it into the feature.
Thanks, Dacil

Couple of questions that maybe will be answered in future dev blogs about this?
First, and maybe I missed it, but am I correct in my guess that this will require some sort of probing/scanning? Or will they turn up as beacons on the overview? Basically, how are we going to find the locations?
Second, the original 10/10 complexes, as stated in the dev blog, respawned after downtime, and were pretty much farmed immediantly. That meant for those of us who work and are not able to play around that time, we never got to partake in em except perhaps on the weekends. Thus, it was great when they were reworked to their current state. So the question is, is this new feature going back to that original state? Something for only those who can log in the moment the server comes back up?

Xessej right about the current sleeper AI. It's not a challenge. All they have is great EHP and damage. All you have to figure out is the best RR gang and you win. It's boring over time. If the sleepers would use all the ewar plus neuting that would be a challenge. Try to use RR when your neuted LMAO. Wouldn't it be a ***** to see a small gang of sleeper stealth bomber use bombs and sensor dampers on you ? lmao.
Also, Is this related to the sansha threat appearing everywhere in new eden ?
Will this pve content appear in pockets (deepspace pockets like the classic mission)or in known places like moons, planets or even gates or stations ? And will we have to scan them down or will they appear on the overview ?

Do we have a ballpark estimate on how long these will take to complete? My initial concern is that if it is too quick, these will be run through almost immediately and those who were not fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time will not be able to take part. Is the intention for this to be kind of a lottery effect, or do you intend for it to be such that someone looking to participate in this PvE feature will be able to seek it out and do so at his/her leisure?
Also, with advanced AI, I am hoping that these NPCs will also follow the 'rules' of regular players. EWAR abusing npcs sound much more interesting and fun when they dont have magical "ewar immunity" on themselves, and having the ability to open up all forms of warfare against these npcs could make the PvE fleet compositions far more interesting (fun).

Would you mind listing those things which are "must haves" and which things are "should" or "could" ? I want to know what to reasonably expect before I get my hopes up, as it seems that only the "must haves" ever make it into the feature.
Thanks, Dacil

Second, the original 10/10 complexes, as stated in the dev blog, respawned after downtime, and were pretty much farmed immediantly. That meant for those of us who work and are not able to play around that time, we never got to partake in em except perhaps on the weekends. Thus, it was great when they were reworked to their current state. So the question is, is this new feature going back to that original state? Something for only those who can log in the moment the server comes back up?
There will be no need to scan anything in this feature. When the Sanshas invade, they're not subtle about it.
The feature itself will be dynamic and take a while to run through, so I wouldn't worry about timezones. Plus the respawning is not dependent on downtime.

Sounds nice that there will be pve group "dungeons" or events. I like more pve, when I don't want to blow up my ships in pvp. But it wouldn't be very nice if I didn't know where any events are or have to travel like 20 jumps for one. Also it would be great if there was some personal "progress bar" of how you have influenced things. For example zones could get colored in the star map as your personal / alliance influence grows in the area. The events could be also competition between factions. Amarr events would affect Amarr influence and so on.

Edited by: Hirana Yoshida on 23/09/2010 19:47:18 For all spawns in low-sec and null-sec it will act exactly like the old 10/10, free ISK for the power-blocs. Only difference will be that it is slightly more unpredictable location wise. TIP: Stop all plex spawns in constellation/region for the duration of an Incursion
How do you prevent hundreds of people competing over the high-sec events? Will actions performed in the DED space (assuming you are DED'ing it) be free of Concord interference?
Presuming the NPCs in question are of the pirate vocation, will you be RP'ing it with news stories and maybe even permanent world changes in case players botch some?

Is there going to be some type of damage normalization so people won't have to fly out in PVE fit ships to actually do fighting and then get kekeke'd to death by the pirates and griefers in their pvp fit ships? Also, since this is across sec status, will there be cap ships in high sec?

ummm, why all the crying about sleeper AI and drones? I've been running combat, mag & radar sites in WH with a RR Domi nearly every day for 3 months and i haven't lost a drone to the sleepers in at least the last 2.5 of those months, and drones are my only damage-dealers. The sleepers rarely even target them... please don't parrot the same old story about scarey sleepers and how they eat t2 drones for snacks. It's not THAT bad. My drones have pulled more aggro in L4 missions than they have in sleeper sites. I lose more drones in GTFO mode than any other time.
This expansion is super-exciting IMHO, I'll have to make more trips out of the hole and play around with this in k-space once it hits.

To those of you worried about Sleeper AI killing off your drones, please look into other methods of handling the agro table. Current sleeper AI is quite simple. ECM > RR > Damage, every time, without fail. The only exception is when the system resets the aggro tables and a damage or RR system cycles at the right time for a higher value than an ECM system.

Oh wow, so does this mean if you are in high sec, if you are caught when they invade, they may just tear through whatever is in their path until we stop them? That sounds like the action/consequence EVE that I can really get behind. It really gives people an incentive to defend their property.
I can see it now - Sanshas in 4 capitals show up outside Jita 4-4, destroying everything within the vicinity.

This is a great step forward for PvE, I'm all for changes that add flavour and character to the universe. This feature has great potential to expand as well.
Incursions could be used to tie into faction warfare, like NPC navy fleets that invade low sec borders. Pirate incursions (with drug/booster related drops and BPCs) could spice up lowsec (finally!) and add texture to the gameworld as well. The drone regions could have a drone mothership appear every once in a while, to enhance the character of the drone regions, ect.
Alternatively, I think that the idea of accomplishing small goals while working towards the common goal was what people really wanted with dominion. Hopefully incursions work their way into sov sometime down the line. Of course the mechanics should allow for a giant fleet battle for the finale .

nerfsauce = failsauce
does it sound familiar ? plex alone will not gurantee to exclude the isk for rl cash trader, and with every nerf that makes it harder to get iskies ingame you open the nearly shut door again for them. to ignore these relation is not wise, just as general warning, and the general tendence to raise the amount of time needed to finish those plexes with no isk rewards while killing npc's, maybe with t2 ammo, means that the few item rewards will have to earn the iskies for those players doing those plexes. means in addition more inflation, and we had just one inflation wave with planetary interaction, the next one must not really hit us or what do you say ? bringing in sleeper ai means also that player not only loose ships, they get podded by npc now too, another thing not mentioned in the dev blog, it means you risk all and its not sure that you get your reward, and it shows where the general tendence goes to. paying for the account, paying for gtc to convert them into plex to be able to buy ships and stuff needed to fly those plexes, flying them, loosing ships, getting podded and then you need to buy next gtc with real life cash again if you want to get quick isk again. the only who earns cash that way is ccp for the case if you are a pure pew pew pilot. it must ofc not be like this, but right now it smells like this for me. the only response i will read tbh is with ccp tag, the rest about flaming and trolling... i dont care, those ppl suck from default and are not worth my attention, tbh :P .

I like the idea, but I have some serious worries about it:
1. Gallente in general and drones in particular. If they were in trouble before they are going to be in deep excrement when this arrives. Does CCP have an answer to this?
2. Supercap spamming: There is a danger of big and rich alliances completely dominating all the low and nullsec spawns by dropping in dozens of supercaps. What is CCP's opinion on this?
3. What is the reward to risk ratio in this? In lo and nullsec this is very obviously going to be gank magnet territory and people stand to lose loads of very expensive ships doing these co-op quests. Are the rewards high enough that it will make it worth their while or will it eventually degenerate into a thing that only the very big and very rich can do while the rest of us go back to the usual trading/FW mission running/whs/industry in order to survive in eve?
I have a strong suspicion that this is going to be yet another CCP half thought out feature that leaves many at the wayside.
Comments CCP?

I hope that your designers and testers consider such things as:
1. Many players need solo content or small group content for PvE. 2. Small group PvE should be considered. Ie from 2-5. 3. Eve is like walking in treacle now for sorting stuff out. Having content that requires 50 people to drag Battleships, mods, looters, scanning ships 2-3 jumps for every 1 hour 'mission' will require at least that time in organisation. If you have to move that many jumps every time there is an event/mission then people will find it too challenging and most will give up. 4. Rewards should still be in isk, LP and items in addition to loot and salv. Adding a new type of LP system for rewards will be like the Wow pvp badge system. In Wow, the main currency (gold) is becoming more and more irrelevant as these rewards become the only things that can give access to the better gear. Luckily for Eve, there is no concept of "soulbound" items except for implants. 5. Might be nice to drop faction salv usable to make faction rigs??

I hope that the rewards in lowsec are going to be similar or even higher than the rewards in 0.0
It would also be great if some invasions would start in highsec and end up in lowsec, thus being a huge incentive for people to form a fleet and go get that big and juicy reward.
This is your chance to make lowsec more interesting, don't miss it by making highsec only 10-40% less profitable than lowsec. It should be 200% more rewarding to venture into lowsec...

So let me get this straight. An event such as this is going to encourage groups of bears.. I mean players, to come together and make some isk?
Can you say "That'll be 20m per pod, and you can keep your ratting golem for 250m? mmmk" ;)
Also, are there any plans to make Low Sec more appealing? I think low sec piracy was a really great element of the game, but has kind of lost it's position in EVE. Please make this better

You don't really expect them to consider such things outside of own testing with a core team as opposed to players from all over?

Haven't you heard, badge systems and soulbound content is hot, it's in all the keynotes. It makes people think it will attract people used to such systems, even wanting them, regardless of whether you really want those in the sandbox or if they stick around when not following up on things. I know when everyeone first heard about lvl 5's and the need for co-op we were excited. Then we found out they were all low sec and said a collective WTF?! If you want to really create more co-op move the lvl 5's to hi sec or at least put some in hi sec.

I like the thing that NPC shooting is getting more interesting. But as be honest, we want more. How come you might think? But the answer is easy. Example lets look now back the last expansions: PI, T3 ships and wormholes. Everything is nice and cool. This is eve, you need to make some how the isk in this game. But to some pilots the thing is going to be too boring. People as pvp pilots are still looking to have something good ... like ships , with you can really make some pvp... ofc. you might say, that T3 must be enough for this need. But this is wrong. We are looking just too outside the box. T3 is never ment to be good pvp ship, so say that I don't just understand the ships. But lets look the fact, Tengu full carebear ship (basicly same as drake ... WTH?!). Lets look closer some ideas in forums and make something out. Like new class of ships: "true pvp ship" , example lets name some things: ceptors, dics, hics, recons... we have those things... but we need always something new. Atm. I would say that pvp pilots are unhappy.

Everyone, this is CCP we're talking about. For those forgetting past expansions please take a look at Faction Failure, the drama lag that's been unleashed and the latest WH fiasco. I am fully confident CCP will totally mess this up, by creating a system in which this PVE 'battleground' will be dominated by massive cap blobs. They claim the more people are involved the less rewarding it will be but it'll get exploited heavily, before it's disabled/removed.
I, once upon a time, was an optimist and thought CCP would do things right. Now I know that this is CCP we're talking about. |

Here's an idea- if an incursion stays un-attacked in a system for lets say 2 or 4 hours, it spreads to neighbor systems- and so on. Makes for not only a true incursion, but plenty of targets if they spawn way out in 0.0 and sit before some people notice.

Yeah, hopefully tying the rewards to objectives will mean that everyone gets a share and opens up for making different roles within a fleet apart from "damage".
So you are considering a way to reward doing support work. Good.
On the other hand there is something to avoid people parking a cloaked cov ops in the battle area and leaving it there while asleep, sucking in "participation points" (or whatever you will call them) without doing anything useful?

More probably 30% high sec, 10% low sec and 60% 0.0 as that is the approximate distributions of systems excluding WH space.

There's no practical difference between the current LP system which everyone is fine with, and any new Sansha Point system, as long as the rewards from the latter are tradeable. And there's no reason to suspect they won't be. Navy Dominix ships are only available from faction warfare stores but you see them for sale all over the place.
I wonder if these invasions will offer a way to increase faction standings. Would be nice to get it from something other than missions.

CCP tried to charge us for EVE Voice, not even 10 people paid for that buggy piece of ****. It's still buggy and doesn't work well, as I can only talk once and once only. Then I have to leave and rejoin voice.

Any chance we can have this also as a sneak lowsec boost, by making the lowsec variants be the most rewarding to run. Easily explained by the fact that while 0.0 is lucrative for the Sansha, they already control wast swathes of 0.0, and it's comparably desolate on pilots, while Highsec is too heavily guarded by the empires, making lowsec the most interesting goal for the Sanshes, making their attacks there the biggest, with the biggest rewards to be gained.
If we use highsec as base (1), have 0.0 be x3 multiplier, and lowsec x8.

Hmm, nice!
Now, imagine an incursion event in a moderately occupied system/constellation. Let me hazard a guess and say 50 Sansha ships appear. Let's say it's high sec and some 50 players join in. That's 100 ships on grid to start with, plus drones. Now imagine some clown shooting other players at the site. Let's say he manages to hit five ships/drones with a Smart Bomb. How many Concord ships will be spawned?
I don't know about you, but I always get huge lag when Concord comes to spank me senseless. I foresee massive lag and gallons of care bear tears.
Oh, and will Sansha target Concord as well? And more so, will Concord target Sansha?

Ai changes and PVE boost, everything sounds nice. Can you tell us anything about the rewards we will get for this? I'm not gonna use the best ships and fittings, form up a decend gang of support and damage ships to run these PvE Encounters, if we all get 1 mil ISK as a reward and a bit of salvage.

Surprised noone has mentioned the similarity between the cooperative aspects of this system and Warhammer's public quests.
Good composers borrow, great composers steal, etc.
This is exactly the right way to go and IMO is long overdue. This kind of system ought to serve as the basis for the majority of PVE in EVE to be honest. There's all these great pirate factions that never really do anything - having them regularly invade empire space is a no-brainer.

Originally by: LegendaryFrog Do we have a ballpark estimate on how long these will take to complete?

@CCP.. time to get those NPC nodes out and running.. cores with NPC AI running and nothing else - connected to the server right besides them and beating the **** out of us. You know you can/want/must do this!! Do eeeetttt pls.

Clever clown I would say. Nowhere in New Eden had there been the potential for a drove of PvEers in such dimensions until now.
And to brighten up low sec with this will be an utter disaster, as the only thing that brightens up when an Incursion is spotted down there will be space with cynos left and right, as the regional power bloc reaps the rewards (if it's THAT good) and/or ****s anybody else there trying to reap the rewards..
Can those Sansha put up cynojammers once they land in a system? This way everybody has to walk to the party in BS maximum instead of taking the private jet (SuperCap), if you know what I mean?!

This. Though it does favor the hometeam corp/alliance somewhat if the caps are already in system, and pity the Sansha fools that decide to invade a staging hub. Or imagine the tears when a pos bashing fleet can¦t return home because the sansha have decided to take up residence. I don't get it really.
You talking like Faction Warfare style NPC interaction? - You kill lots of NPCs, complete your objectives, but then it resets rather than tips a see-saw? - This will have to same core issue as FW that is: If you achieve your goals, retake the systems/conquer the sanshas, then it resets - The it all really has no point and is just a time comsuming cycle.
Now if you make these events properly dynamic - so for example you defeat the Sanshas, then their next campaign escalates and things can dynamicly change - for example: If the capsuleers then fail to reah all objectives then Sanshas can take some NPC Sovereignty, then that might make sense.
Your suggesting people wont just farm these NPC events because they can move around * Newsflash* Pod pilots can move too. And it sounds to me you're more likely to introduce a Deltole Mk II where you get a bunch of "efficient" farmers rather than dynamic NPC content affecting all.

@Devs
Are there minimum requirements about how many players may be needed to complete these PvE things? I.e. in hi sec, do you need at least say 10 BS + RR? Can you make these things like Diablo randomly generated maps for maximum replayability?
Also, why would a farmer be enticed to pour in the effort required for this kind of event? Or are you going to remove hi sec L4?

concerning static plexes. This was just one element of the most dumbest changes made to 0.0 ever, i.e. taking away the specific benefits of specific territorium aka systems. taking away static plexes and rendering the number of belts and sec status to meaninglessness by the ihub extensions makes it completely meaningless what 0.0 you claim. It does not matter anymore if you own some 4 belt system in Pureblind oder some 30 belt system with -1.0 sec status in tenal. Bad change, because it takes away the teritorrial greed from alliance conflicts !!! the issue you discussed you have been taken away soooo easy, but you decided to spoil the whole system. simply by adding key card items randomly spawned there would not be the server up farming effect you discribe. But no, you decided to make plexes spawn randomly making it irrelevant if you own a system or not.

There will be no need to scan anything in this feature. When the Sanshas invade, they're not subtle about it.
The feature itself will be dynamic and take a while to run through, so I wouldn't worry about timezones. Plus the respawning is not dependent on downtime.
So this new feature is related to the Sansha event ? Ohhh crap.
I remember the sansha invade high-sec. I never had any notice, never knew where it was and CCP replied Sansha don't need to tell me when they attack but yet, it's an event for pilots ? wtf is that crap.
I hope this kind of hidden crap wont be in this feature. If an even like that happens I want to know about it so I can participate in it. IMO, the sansha event was a big joke from CCP on me...and I'm not laughing at all. I felt insulted

While I think a lot of these posts are just blowing smoke, I can totally agree on the epicness this could be.
Picture this. Pilots goin about their business in Jita as usual, freighters and haulers and all sorts of ships coming and going, when suddenly a wormhole appears 150km from the station and a Sansha mothership comes through (what is a mothership btw? could it be possibly like a traveling station? A deathstar type thing?) Imagine all the carebear freighters scrambling for cover. Docking manager Scotty under such load that people are being told to stand by as Sansha ships are launched and are now bearing down on the station. At the same time, other major trade hubs are hit in all four of the empires.
Now THAT would be one hell of a Sansha invasion and would definitly stir up the sometimes rather mundane activities of high sec.
Just don't do it while it's me undocking in my freighter.

I see two practical problems:
1) 0.0 alliances drop just their 50 supercaps onto the poor sanshas and blitz the whole event, thus having very high income for almost no risk. Hopefully that will be considered and counter-mechanism preventing this put in place.
2) Time. Just 1 1/2 months left. Certainly the design cannot be influenced any more by player input. I wish the devs would announce such big things earlier and DISCUSS it with players on the right forum sections IN ADVANCE while there is still ENOUGH TIME. There are so many valuable resources in the playerbase! It is a total shame that they go to waste most of the time. |

For me, the biggest bang for the buck will come from the thought:
What happens if the Sansha invade a hisec system with supercap support (Gosh we need an image soon, I can't get my head around a spiky mothership) and the pilots initally LOOSE?
Sanshas replace the normal rats, travel through the system (and perhaps adjacent systems) become unsafe as Sansha rats are everywhere. the sansha footprint becomes larger. Agents become hard to get to, mining becomes impossible, PVE gang fleets get larger to push back on the Sansha . . .CONCORD defers to pilots to face the Sansha (but staying around to enforce hisec rules)
Pools of fun. And no caps on the pilot's side.
And after the Sansha incursion is over (down the line) we see the other pirate factions doing the same thing, so constant running battles with NPC fleets.
Just post a nice image of that new Sansha supercarrier, please. I can't wait for that spikey beast to appear. [mind boggles with thought of training required to fly a Sansha supercarrier]

I would actually quite enjoy seeing supercaps and normal caps running these for more reasons than one. Just implement a trigger spawn when a capital ship enters the grid, like you did in wormhole space.

What Soundwave means there is that there's no "opt-in" mechanics for "sides" to choose, such as you get in Faction Warfare. It's still possible, despite this, for Sansha sympathisers (or local pirates, etc) to run interference. Right now though, the extent to which they can is limited in scope. If there's the time to, we'll try and broaden that.

I hope you have time, but don't take that time at the cost of making the feature itself less polished. Have you guys given thought as to how you're going to make the content still worthwhile/challenging when alliances can drop 20+ titans and 50+ supercarriers into the escalation?

Very disappointing, and will make me think twice about participating in future events. I asked a question here some time ago about what was being done for sympathisers of the incurring factions, but didn't receive a response. Now I know why. Thanks for communicating with your players.

I read it somewhere but i cant remember where. I thought it was coming in this winter expansion: the re-creation of your characters portrait (so its 3D or something).
I was wondering if we were allowed to change race as well? Back then you had to pick race and bloodline for your attributes, not for your liking to a particular background story.
My char is cald (i think) but exclusively flies minmatar; and i act for it in game (rp). If i'd were allowed to change my race; i could walk the talk.

Players on both sides try to eliminate the other side's NPC's, or something like that? It's not a perfect solution, but something like that would be relatively easy to implement in the meantime I guess?
It's seems a bit unfair to not be able to enjoy the purpose of this (player teaming up vs NPC) if you happen to support the Nation team.
This is an another CCP lagfix or just CCP want kill the drone users play ?
More AI for NPC equal with shot drones. Less drones, less lag ? But all NPC will using more scripts = more lag.
I hate CCP lagfixes, that's is ridicuolus, such as new local refreshing settings which they set now 1 minute delay and the players cant see instantly who got global criminal flag.
Or overview delay settings what they ruined 3 sec delay. My favored situation, when a 4-5k speed interceptor want to catch me and the distance on overview jumping 12-15km. Corp info came to 5 and 15 minutes delay, personal info windows too.
Windows delaying is not lagfix, just a joke. And this changes against drone users too.

First all are happy about the new things that will (maybe) come. Second (after the information is processed) the low sec members start to whine Third the big whining of 0.0/PVP-Members starts
Just see it like it is. CCP wants to do something for the biggest parts of players and this is (also viewable in the quarterly business report) the high sec and PvE-Players.
PS: THANK YOU CCP FOR TAKING AWAY THE ATM MACHINES FROM 0.0-SEC Since no one else have this in the game why should 0.0 have this

No, not really. A Faction Mothership will be the Eve equivalent to the Bugatti Veyron, accessible only to the super-rich, not for mere mortals who will never be able to afford one. Nor do either enhance PvP from a day to day standpoint. I'm interested more in the long promised "features" that will change blobbing to being the final stage of Sov warfare, not the be-all and end-all of it. Not all of us have PCs capable of handling large scale battles these days but that doesn't mean we should be excluded from the process. The last set of changes in it did nothing to reduce this. Across the galaxy there is only war. |

Now you may be asking yourself "why did you take them out then, stupid?" The high reward and static nature meant that you could make a lot of money every day at a pretty small effort. It was basically an ATM machine if you imagine it had a single button that said "free money" and was surrounded by neon signs reading "PLEASE COME TAKE MY MONEY."
i don't get it. those ATM machines with the FREE MONEY button still exist and they can be run alone in a t2 BS. they even respawn 2 minutes later so you can easily make hundrets of millions very fast.
you say they have been removed - when? what exactly am i missing here?
i'd really love to see anything above current 5/10 and similar anos/plexes/missions completely removed from game and replaced with pve mechanics that can *absolutely* not be done alone or with an alt. min. 4-5 players for "easy" encounters and for a "hard" encounter you should need a full fleet.
THAT would make many aspects of this game more interesting in the long term. if the upcoming patch changes just that, then way to go, CCP. can't wait :)

This could have very interesting consequences for POS owners and aggressors if the Sanshas have a way to cynojam low sec system--especially if the effect lasts for the duration of their presence in the system.

It's a suggestion that CSM made at the June Summit when Soundwave discussed this feature with us and mentioned it was still in the "drawing board" stage. Too bad it didn't get slotted in. I would very much like to see a way for sympathizers to support the Sansha...it would make the encounters a lot more unpredictable for everyone--but especially the players who choose to oppose the invasion.

Funny I remember seeing a thread in Features and ideas forum about something pretty damn similar to this about a week ago. I'm gonna say the same thing I said there. Dynamic is good but you risk making space bland.
Back in the old days (incoming nostalgia) systems used to feel a lot different from each other belt count was a lot more important and in some cases so was moon count (not so much now due to sov changes). Generally these changes are good things but they are destroying the (already pretty low) character of the systems we live in.
I'd say take a look at wormholes they've got plenty of character with all their different spacial phenomena. We need something like this (but something different and new) in regular space as well to counteract all the dynamic content making things bland.
"service garauntees citezenship" - Please don't make standings too big of a reward, standings don't matter much for those who are already near 10 for a faction. Though i'm sure you mean LP you'll probably include some standing in there too. ------------------------------ God is an afk cloaker |

I seriously hope that you do, while you can make an AI tactically challenging in EvE there's no way the current system becomes the kind of strategic challenge that opposition players are, you're making what was a good story system (the challenge of trying to solve the puzzle behind nation's incurions) into more mindless and vastly unopposed PVE.
give the sympathysers a way to fight for their side just as you're giving us a way to fight for ours, the conflict is no fun without a powerful opposition.
hell hold off the expansion if you need the time to get it done but the sympths have put just as much into the events as anyone else. for this to work it needs to be interesting and challenging the best way you're going to achieve that is by involving as many player elements as you can, grinding AI alone will not cut it imo.

on a more serieus note, i am curious about the reward system. ATM i often find tags, where as a tag from 1 race or bad guy can be worth 10 mill a pop, and the other of the same rank of another race is worth 0 isk. This unbalance doesnt help making things balanced.
idea: Put a reward system in place that gives equal value to (example) a sansha crystal tag and a serpentis crystal tag. Make them exchangable for LP point, items or isk, based on their droprate which is tied too rank atm. Same would aply to other tags liek faction tags and officer tags. cash them in for LP or anything with loyalty and a equal reward over the different races and factions we all love in eve. Therefor giving PVE over races the same attraction in rewards.
the amount of PVE would then be tied too LP store item prices on markets/contracts, but u coudl even make LP return dynamic based on drop rate value.
am i crazy or not ?
is this a silly idea or not ?

As the tags are already needed to get certain rewards in the LP store, I don't really see what you want CCP to do. It's up to the free market to set prices for the tags. If some tags are looked for more than others because people are after the rewards of a certain faction, then this is just as good a reason as any why you should get more ISK for certain tags.
I am not here for more than a few days, but so far I found the economy to be quite good at that. Even if I sometimes swear that all my salvaging only brought me more Contaminated Lorentz Fluid or any other crap nobody really needs. After all, it's up to me if I sell for that price.

but with these new promises for the pve upgrade we MIGHT get bonus stuff.. i truly hope that this new pvp stuff governed in high security section space concord is still playing their role as the police.. with the value and purpose of tags earlier i disagree its balanced. a crsytal tag of one race has much less value then another. The differences are huge, leaving 0.0 areas as considerabel less value for rattings, as soem gold tags make 10 million, when another race/faction gold tag is useless.
therefor it woudl be better to let them have a general LP value, so a serpentis bronz tag has xxx LP, same as any other bronze tag from bandits. and for example a faction tag has 10 times the LP value of the regular tag. and so on.
this would spread out ratters and people and equal rewards, also decrease the habbit of doing certain races or missions because of that higher value. So u owuld do more different missions, making it more fun.

It would be disappointing -- and imho out of character for New Eden -- if the juiciest rewards of an invasion were plopped down right where there is the least risk to acquire them.
IIRC you cant blob PvE with supercaps in hisec.
I meant risk from other players, not from the NPCs themselves.
My point still stands then (tho to a bit lesser degree). In one place you have harder engagements (max size = BS) in other place you have easy mode (supercaps) but you risk some combat (lol risk... if it happens in deep north or deep south it will be farmed by one alliance only). It balances itself i guess.

I would very much like to see a way for sympathizers to support the Sansha...it would make the encounters a lot more unpredictable for everyone--but especially the players who choose to oppose the invasion.
But then it ceases to be a PvE feature, no? Unless you can still get Concorded for shooting other players in high sec space if you are on the Sansha side. However, my bet is that those of you hardcore PvP'ers want amnesty for shooting other players in highsec if you join the Sansha. That can't happen. You'll presumably already gain access to carebears chasing the Sansha into low sec; but high sec mechanics can't change.
If that's how things would play out, then be my guest in joining the Sansha.

Naomi, you know they've already done that twice. While we had fun its apparent you can deplete the respawn rate.
What I'm more concerned with is CCP stealing our BFF motif, right down to the stupid enemy clowns part.
Content: I suggest a new mission from survellience agents which allows you to find a group of hostiles and call in a Rat swarm on them. Its a good way to allow players to interact with PVE content like what is proposed.

Still... unless NPCs get a major buff overall this could be really boring.
I mean the biggest meanest (non named pilot) Sansha battleship only does 154 DPS...
If NPC ships actually fought like real PvP ships it'd be interesting... Sure they should perform worse then us, but not that much worse then us...

i liek the big picture, but try to throw in some " goodies" that satisfy alot of people.
for myself:
1. save fittings for Allaince, on top of the individual and corp ones. that woudl benefit big allainces big time 2. introduce a new skill: remot reprocessing, u can reprocess items remotely, increasing 5 jumps per level, like remoet trade skills. It owudl decrease stacks peopel have lyign aorudn but cnat be arsed to get, cause minerals sell better in general. 3. give tags a better and more consistent value so that a sansha gold tag has same value as lets say a serpentis gold tag. Coudl be solved by making them exchangable for fixed amoutn of LP points per sort tag. (and then make faction and officertags also have a cooresponding value)
seems to me small stuff, satisfyign alot of people, on top of the mentioned big ccp plan.
silly or not ?

This looks like something analogous to "raiding" in other MMOs. Could be cool, as long as you construct it with the realities of Eve in mind.
As we saw on Test this morning, this content will be trivial if players are simply allowed to zerg it (zerg: using massive numbers as a substitute for skill and tactics). Eve doesn't need any more trivial PvE grinds. There are enough already.
On the contrary, this content should be hard. Really hard. So hard in fact that you wipe entire fleets multiple times before you figure out how to beat it, and the strategies for beating an encounter should be closely guarded secrets for those who know how. If you did this right, Eve would have something that other MMOs don't when it comes to this kind of content, i.e. having to balance risk with chance of success. An encounter that's barely beatable with T2 fit BS might be easier in faction fit Marauders, but still easily fail-able by unskilled pilots. So, you have to balance your chance of success against what you're willing to lose if you fail.
I don't see how you do the above without some kind of cap on ship types and numbers. If you leave it wide open, overkill will be the rule.
If you make it really hard, the rewards should be really awesome, as it is in other MMOs where ôraid lootö >>>> ôgroup and solo lootö. It makes sense, because of the collective player hours that it takes to beat truly hard to beat PvE content. If the rewards don't far out-strip what can be had grinding anoms or missions, nobody is going to care about this content.
If you make it possible to grab off the phat lootz at he end of the rainbow by sending in a super-cap blob to lock down the final encounter, people will, at least until the peons get wise and stop doing the grinding just to be shut out at the end.
If you make it possible to farm this for real-world cash, and the real-world cash rewards are good enough, the RMT patrol will be all over it (see ôsuper-cap blobö above) and nobody else will get near it.
Eve has a (well deserved, IMO) reputation for having the absolute worst PvE content of any successful MMO. If you do this right, you might change that. If you do it wrong your shiney new feature will just be added to the collection of mindless isk grinds that already exist in the game, and your time and effort would have been far better spent enhancing the sov system, or the factional warfare system that you've neglected since it was released, or some other aspect of the game that people actually care about.

I've got to agree with the previous poster. This needs to be harder... much harder. We're talking about an invasion by a major power here, and I'm not talking about the number of ships either.
Here's some simple ideas... simulate PvP behavior in the NPCS. RR primaried ships, if there's a Sansha mothership involved throw in a couple Sansha carriers and dreads in the sites, have the carriers RR the battleships as their targeted and for the love of all that's holy randomize the spawns.
One of the reasons PvE in EVE is so boring is that the spawns are identical for each particular mission, and that there are multiple waves of enemies. In most cases the only reason a mission runner looses a ship is if they screw up and shoot a spawn trigger and suddenly there's a ton of NPCs. To be blunt, spawns should be on a timer if they exist and please don't just have them appear. I'd liked to see em warp onto the grid.
I was in today's mass test of this feature, and I got to say there were a couple moments where I was going yes... that's how to do it. Like when I saw Sansha battleships closing to point blank range before being blown to away. But afterward I felt a bit cheated. Yes the NPCs are better then the old ones, yes they hit harder. At the same time they're easily rushed by large formations. Perhaps the number of gate activations should trigger additional spawns, like reinforcements being rushed to the scene when 30 or 40 capsuleers show up. Since the rewards are based on objective completion... having escalating Sansha reinforcements show up relative to the PCs that use the gate wouldn't affect the value of the missions but would encourage players to avoid the... Blob tactic. Cause they're NPCs... they can out blob us in a pinch.

More people are on the field more likely one will "grab the can" in an "overwhelmed civilian" event and trigger the next spawn early.
But a more direct cause and effect might be desirable.
