I would like to add my voice to those of the people who are EXTREMELY dissapointed with the selection that the deviantART judges made with their ship choices.
I feel that only 5 of the 15 options could actually be implemented into the game, however, I still don't think that they would even fit into the existing IP very well.
The deviantART judges completely ignored many of the community favorites; many of which would actually integrate into the game well.
If one of the ships picked by the ART team is implemented without a re-condiseration on CCP's part, then I feel that the community will be VERY hostile to future implementations of ships, when so many good options were submitted by the community, and completely ignored.
Please listen to your community. Throw out the deviantART picks. re-run the either the contest, or the re-judgeing again, by CCP staff.
I love this game, and would hate to see CCP put a sub-par model into it, when so many submissions were excellent.

As much of a nightmare that would be to work with in 3D, yes, it does have the line art required.
I don't know man, I can't really see that this 'line drawing' is any more compliant than this. And picking one over the other much better designs because of this technicality is an atrocity.

First of all...everyone should just make u a primary target and just blow you away everytime ur sighted in eve. People are mad NOT because they didn't win or were not in charge of voting...ppl are mad because this is OUR game and the DA judges neglected not only rules, but also any sort of judgment calls on what IS and what IS NOT a design that fits into the eve universe. These ships they chose suck..other than 5, and thats EXTREMELY stretching it for those 5. Sure the artists worked hard..I did too. I don't care that I lost...I knew mine wouldn't make it. However, there are PLENTY that were far superior than these. enough said!

Actually, most of us are extremely disappointed, including many who put alot of effort into a creating a good ship design. The problem is not that many people complaining are cry-babies. And many people are complaining who don't think what they did should have won (though admittedly, people are more whiney and self-serving overall on the Eve forums than on Deviant Art).
But what is coming down is a general consensus that a.) the best designs were not picked, and b.) the judges did not apparently consider the fact that the winning ship has to fit into the game. Given the limits of the engine underlying Eve, many of the ships cannot and could not ever be including in the game without rebuilding the underlying infrastructure from the ground up. Vision of the game or not, impossible is impossible. Many clearly show they put alot of effort into making something, but little to no effort into researching the context of what they were making (a critical flaw in product design at large these days really).
In the end the winners have to appeal to us, the players of Eve, because we are the ones who are going to have to see them, or at least one of them, come into operation.
Besides, this is Eve, backstabbing each other and *****ing about it is what we do. We've gotten very good at it and were damn proud of it.

Are you seriously telling me that the Tornado was edged out by the LA battlecruiser? That it was the runner up waiting in the wings just in case? Or has it got in as the popular choice because of the public outrage?
I really thought when we all entered this competition that all the pieces would be subjected to fair, impartial judging and that the selection criteria would be as stated in the rules. Whilst I'm happy that one of the strongest entries is now in the finals, I must say I'm a little annoyed about the process that got it there.

I'm calling shenanigans on this now.
CHANGING THE SEMI FINALISTS AFTER AN UPROAR SHOWS JUST HOW MUCH DA JURY ARE AS*HATS AND DOUC*EBAGS WITH NO SENSE OF RULING AND EVE IN GENERAL.
CCP seriously, ditch DA, f*ck em, scr*w em, b*rn em and leave them in a ditch. In game ofcourse. They have no interest in EVE and haven't even done research or adhere to the rules of the competition. Not only do they smear their own name but they're taking CCP's name with em. Disrespectfull s.o.b.'s if you ask me....

Though we all know the minmatar vertical ship would win. but now im just being biasd.
ok I admit i like the jovian vision too. but we cant fly jove ships.
ANYWAY head over to the assembly hall too, to voice your opinions.
Still if the winner of the contest is going to have a ship put in the game, we should decide on it then.

The most hated entry among the semi-finalists, the infamous failcruiser, happened to have a very obvious 'watermark' in the lower right. Not only was its aesthetic and techical accomplishment questionable, but it was a flagrant rules violation.
So the failcruiser gets swapped out for one of the popular favorites that EVE players have justly pointed to as archetypical of the overlooked entries. Will this appease the rioters?
Well, to make sure that it doesn't, one of the DA people posts an explanation with perhaps one of the most patronizing statements I've ever read on a public apology.

As someone else said, this isn't an apology, it's an excuse. Disqualifying the worst entry on a technicality (does anyone really believe that the rule-breaking signature was the reason it was removed?) does nothing to address the fact that most of the entries are poorly suited to EVE at best, and the judges were apparently clueless about what EVE is like.

Welp, I doubt I'll bother entering a contest again in future. It was fun to actually be doing something again but the way DA accept submissions didn't jive well with the tone of the contest.
So many people had trouble with the rules that it seems they could have been more clearly represented. I think mine must have been disqualified on the fact that the line art was somewhat shaded (although that gives a better idea of form???)
Anyhow, I'm going to go and sit on the sofa with a tub of ice cream and play wii sports for the rest of the night
