As someone else said, this isn't an apology, it's an excuse. Disqualifying the worst entry on a technicality (does anyone really believe that the rule-breaking signature was the reason it was removed?) does nothing to address the fact that most of the entries are poorly suited to EVE at best, and the judges were apparently clueless about what EVE is like.
top it off with them mocking our well founded outrage and dismissing it in passive aggressive and suggestive comments. "Eve got voted off, isn't that weird?" **** her, primary target is ****ing moonbeam. Pop, pod, shoot the corpse, **** the clones.

As i remember it, the rules never said anything about shading, but coloring. I had to resubmit since my first entry was in violation of the rules. I read them CARFULLY after that. Either this is corrupt to the core or the DA staff need a mental examination.

Originally by: Ogogov Welp, I doubt I'll bother entering a contest again in future. It was fun to actually be doing something again but the way DA accept submissions didn't jive well with the tone of the contest.
So many people had trouble with the rules that it seems they could have been more clearly represented. I think mine must have been disqualified on the fact that the line art was somewhat shaded (although that gives a better idea of form???)
Anyhow, I'm going to go and sit on the sofa with a tub of ice cream and play wii sports for the rest of the night
Dude, one of the semi's is in purple line ar with blueish/blackish/purpleish background. If that ain't reason for a disqualification i don't know what is anymore. But i've already passed that point really.... ___________

I think I've run the full gamut of my (somewhat stunted) emotional range this evening: initially I was a little disappointed none of my designs made the grade, then I saw the actual semi-finalists and I was insulted, then I thought about all the really good designs that should have made it but didn't and I got angry. Right now I'm watching as the DA community managers try to deal with the Eve General population and I'm getting a warm feeling inside -

Edited by: Merin Ryskin on 21/10/2010 02:07:19 Well, deviantart's idiot "director of community relations" just confirmed exactly what we've all been thinking: that "fitting into the existing world of EVE Online" was not a top priority for the judges:
Quote: Dedicated players of EVE who have a deep, intimate relationship to the game will likely use a different lens in viewing what the artists have produced than would the skilled artists we used to judge the contest semi-finalists. When you blend two worlds, that of the arts and that of EVE, you cannot expect the result to look only as EVE would have it be.

The idiocy is staggering! Its like if Gears of War held a "Design a gun" Contest and DA chose guns that look like toys and told that community to deal with it.

Pretty insulting that. CCP puts a LOT of effort in its artwork. A lot of things in EVE, even to the point of the whole picture combined, are works of art. Nice to say that to CCP's designers, wtf are they thinking. |

It takes a lot of time to do a correct line drawing when you don't have a 3D model to use as a backdrop. I have no idea why so many awesome designs were not traced over.
Anyway, the website that hosted this contest is for 15 year old girls who draw vampires and dress up like vampires and take pictures of each other. It will stay that way.
The thing that nobody is talking about is that all but 3 of the semi-finalists are and have been or become active members of that community. It seems that there was a unspoken guideline to the contest; that you must be an active community member. What you are seeing in the semi-finalists is the true talent pool of that community. The fly by's who came from the EVE community were overlooked.
I find it funny that our video game community has more artistic talent than their art community.

Dam**t we may hate each other in game and want to blow the crap out of our enemies everyday...but it brings a tear to my eye to see how despite our corp/alliance differences and wars and such, that we can come together as a community against a single enemy!!!
PodPilots of the Eve Universe: You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many hours. The eyes of the Eve Universe are upon you. The hopes and prayers of pirates, mercs and carebears alike everywhere fly with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts you will bring about the destruction of the DeviantArt war machine, the elimination of DA tyranny over oppressed peoples of Eve Online, and security for ourselves in a decision that CCP must make for every podpilot alike.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened in the ways of hippy-styled artistic views and ignoring rules. He will fight savagely.
But this is the year 2010. Much has happened since the DA blog apology triumph of 10-20-2010 posted hours ago. The Eve Community have inflicted upon Deviant Art great defeats, in open battle upon blogs, man-to-man forum attacks. Our outright disdain for their judgements has seriously reduced their strength in the eyes of their own followers and their capacity to judge other contests fairly. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned. The free Eve Podpilots of the world are marching together to victory.
I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to EVE Online, and skill in forum battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory and the dismemberment of the Deviant Art website as a creditible art source for any other legitimate future contests... Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of almighty CCP upon this great and noble undertaking.

Put Naru Kami in front of the Cyruk and I'd agree. That being said, there are at least a few more entries that are worthy of having been considered. Like the Stahlvogel, perhaps. Or maybe the Thermis. Or even, dare I say it, the Sammarah or whatever the hell it was called.
