I'm all for more BLING on my ship. I also like the idea of T2, Faction, Officer, Deadspace stuff having a different look, so that I get to show off. I also think that missiles should come out of my missile hard points. Just look at the Drake! All those great looking "Hardpoints" and all my missiles come out of my ships spine in some sort of unnatural way.

You know, when WH space was first deployed I took a Cheetah in to harvest some gas.
I noticed this lump on the Cheetah model I'd never seen before.
The gas cloud harvester has a model. It looks like an upside down trash can.
Why the hell is this important?
If you can put in a model for the gas cloud harvester you can put one in for Nos and Neuts.
Plus I've also felt that there should be launcher models. I'm sure it's work to add them but really. They're kind of important to PvP.

You were surprised when a Caracal with *5* missile hardpoints and *2* missile bonuses shot missiles at you.
Nobody should pay respect to that.

I agree, as mentioned before the missiles come out the middle of the ship and not out any launchers.
To be able to see what weapon is fitted on the hardpoints is nice but on missile boats the choice is normally depending on the ship bonus.
I do miss the old days though......be able to fit any missile on any launcher and only the amount of ammo changed what could be charged in the launcher. If I remember correctly it was like 2 torps on a standard missile launcher. I still hope and wish that ccp would bring this back :) I loved my cruise spitting crow .

Missiles really need hardpoints because now they're coming out of my ships I don't know where but it mainly depends on where my opponent is. If he's above me they come out above me and if he's below me it's below me.
They should like make missiles hang under the ships so that you can see whether it's heavy missile or or assault missiles. And they should stick out a bit too, so you can see what the damage type is.

To OP, im fully for this, it doesnt actually need to be a pvp orientated change, it would actually look good, ive always wondered what those things on the "shoudlers" of a caracal navy issue were, and those launcher looking things on the drake. It shouldnt be to difficult to impliment unless you made launchers different models for each race. + it would look awesome for my nighthawk to throw stuff out of launchers

But thats just it... its nice, not high priority.
I don't think it would cause lag since all of it can be calculated on your client machine. Nothing has to be sent over to the Eve servers. Your client is already aware which ships are on its grid, and what their weapons are (because it has to pick the correct explosion on impact for example). Even turning turrets can be created on the client side. Your client knows when they're fired (because it has to foresee the visual effects again) and where they're pointed (to you, or another ship). From there, it's only doing some triangualtion to calculate on which vector they should point. The vector being the line between the firing ship and its target.
If there is anything lagging out, it would be your GPU  But certainly not the Eve server. --- I'm not as bad-ass as some of my corp mates, but I'll pwn you anyway!

Originally by: Jovialmadness While i applaud your desire to get precise intel on your opponent, you should, after three years, know exactly what you are facing just by looking at the overview and seeing the ships. Seeing as how 99% of the time people just cookie cutter their basic ship layouts, wasting time doing that form of intel would merely be jyst fir fun.
In before the, "i dont use cookie cutter" crowd.
Since he's talking about looking at ships and seeing whether they're arty (long range) or AC (short range) in order to set orbit radius, and there are cookie-cutter builds for both on any given ship, your method does not address his problem.
If Assault launchers looked different from regular launchers, it would definitely make checking the models important, tactically. ---

Makes perfect sense Praz. Like the Myrm, you can check to see if it's neut or ac/arty fit, same should go for lolneut/heavy/assault Caracal.

Furthermore, the technology (er, code) is already there; just need art dept to make some models. If you think about it, that's exactly what the T3 cruisers are all about - they look different based on their subsystems. Would be nice to see a MWD, for example, stick extra boosters next to the ship's normal jets, or make them bigger, or something. The game already has it for turrets and for T3s.

Why not just right click on every ship you see and space, and get the full fitting? Why not have CCP calculate the chance of my ship to beat his ship?
Nobody should have to do anything difficult when they farm killz for their l33t statz yo! Support this change!

This guys a goof, man.
I support this idea. Ever seen a drake shooting someone? Oh yeah Im sure missiles just randomly poof in space and fly at the enemy in this world, too.

Oh, come on... This thread has some point...
Why should you know that i have arties of ACs (a safe estimation of my tracking in general) but there is no way for me to know if you are an AML, HML or HAM drake / caracal etc?
Yes, maybe few ppl check to see that, but some do. So stop being so dramatic...
------
Guessing CCP found it difficult to have multiple points of origin for the missiles' flight paths that follow that "funky pattern", while for turrets was kinda easier, "just connecting 2x dots and heaving a visual effect flowing through that invisible straight line.
YES, i do believe too that the client should be redesigned so that it uses up all that CPU/GPU resources for a reason, and GFX being more and more irrelevant to server lag... Join the Biggest Greek Corp! www.Mythos-eve.com - Join Mythos Channel in game! |

Edited by: Managalar on 13/12/2010 17:38:17 I think it is a good idea. They will have to add 'hardpoints' for non-turret ships that lack them - carriers and others - because there are no points on the models. =====================
