Wow, just --- wow, this is absolutely fabulous!
This clearly shows that CCP is more than willing to listen to its community, I am very pleased with the opportunity to recreate my character.
I guess I'll speak for many of us (customers/community) when I say/type, Thank you, CCP!

This new feature is really great! one thing i missed was the option of a dress... so will there be more newer clothing and more of everything or is it to much to implement? and another idea might be to let people access the whole avatar as a sneak before walking in station is introduced... have something on the side that u actually can see the whole character since u built a full body... just a wish this is

Agreed! Looking at the snapshot on the left I didn't notice the flaws but once I checked the large portrait in this folder (Keep in mind this is Window 7 location)
C:\Users\Lina\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_eve_tranquility\cache\Pictures\Portraits
and noticed the flaws so I retook the snapshot until I got the one I wanted.

Great workaround in the meantime! I was going to design my new upgraded self tonight, so this is good to know, thanks!
I too am very pleased to hear they plan to add tattoos and future assets, and the ability to refresh your portrait at a whim, while keeping the underlying character the same (facial/body features, etc).

No, I do not want to update my char. It was fine the way it was, its a shame your team couldn't have given a little more thought to this and allowed players to import the avatar they already had to a body that I don't need for sitting in a spaceship, yes I know this is another step in the preperation for your Ambilation, a feature I personaly don't see a need for in a spaceship game. Now the position I'm taking by refusing to update any of my characters on all of my accounts is this, I'm so tired of features in this game that I keep growing to like that keep getting destroyed in some part by your dev teams, so lets put them up for an example, in the time I've played I saw the speed nerf, and yes some people besides me are still none to pleased with that nerf, then the mess your team made of exploration, I still don't like it the way it is now, then you offered PI and then your team reduced my production in this by a whopping 66.6%, and I could go on about the features that have so screwed up that at least for me I feel I have no better choice to make but say NO. Let us import our old faces surley this is in the realm of possibilties, Good luck.

Very nice patch, sure going to make a lot of people happy.
Will the "future updates" add more hair colours? Caldari Deteis still need to have access to black hair (something they had before the update and in previous versions of the CC) While they may now be a bloodline with lighter hairs I'm sure somewhere you can buy black #1 hair dye.

Sounds like a good idea, but I'd like to see at least a few devs devoted full time to producing assets for each new expansion, maybe even implants that when plugged in give you access to new implant pieces.

This also clearly shows that CCP live in their own world and repeatedly need to be pointed to some of the most obvious things before they realize those are needed.
As to the portrait preview: You gain massive points for introducing a preview and sensible confirmation dialog about a semi-irreversible action. Unfortunately you lose those them all for not showing every relevant format (64x64 in chat, 256x256 in my own char sheet, 512x512 in character selection)

I personally am really frustrated with this new feature.
Now before ya'll at CCP say **** you and ignore me, I do want to say good job on, most of it.
My main frustration points are the following.
Why can't we have re customization of at least the clothing, makeup, and picture shot now. Even if it's a station service and costs 10,000,000 isk.
2, this expands on 1 and one of the reasons you are putting this patch out. I'm really happy with my new portrait, except in the tiny in chat size, it looks like **** in that size. And no not hot ****, or golden ****, more like cow patty smeared on a bagel ****. My frustration is I had no way of knowing the tiny sized version was going to look so bad until I logged in, long after I can currently fix it.(Since I'm sure their is good technical reason to not allow pilots to have different portraits for different sized uses, I won't ask.)
3. Please send the artists to more than goth industrial clubs, and corporate dress code meetings when researching hair styles. How can i be a truly terrifying pirate without my pigtails? (Yes seriously, I want pigtails, k? please? thanks!)
In short, ya'll came 90% of the way... I know scrum means you won't launch with 100% but please don't delay or skimp on adding more content for this, and unlocking it's use. Hell I would just like to be able to go stare at my new avatar in 3D, right now it's like nothings changed... I'm still just a picture and I can't even for vanity reasons go look in holographic mirror.
Otherwise keep rockin and thanks for taking the time to talk with the unruly mob of players.

No. At the point when we implement the UI changes all characters who have already completed the character customization process will automatically receive another chance to recustomize.
There is no need to raise a petition.
Can we wait before we have to (re)redo our chars or should we wait for further patches?

Would it be possible to present us the 512x512 version of the character portrait before finalization? Sometimes there are small glitches that go unnoticed on the smaller images.

Edited by: Keiko Kobayashi on 19/01/2011 22:16:19 I donÆt think showing all the different preview sizes is really very useful, because the final server-rendered version will look slightly different anyway.
E.g. the shadows will look better, it will be anti-aliased, and also some glitches that showed up for me in the large preview image didnÆt appear in the server version. Also I think character movement is not stored in the snapshot (including eye blinking); I timed the snapshot on æbreathe-inÆ, but when I compared the local render with the server render, the movement was not included. So those who worry about closed eyes, probably itÆll be fine.
From what I understand normally the local version is cached for a day or so before the server version is received, but you can force EVE to send you the server version by finding the image in EVE application data /cache/Pictures/Characters and renaming it to something else.
Anyway I agree that the final nature of save was a bit unexpected (itÆs fine when creating a new character), IÆm glad to have this confirmation window and the opportunity to tweak my characters a little further.
And if any 512x512 should be shown in the confirmation, it should be a server render of the final snapshot, so we can *really* see what our character will look like.

Once these new customization abilities comes, can you please add one thing: our characters body shape and facial features show as they are now, just add new clothing tattoos and piercings, also will we be able to change the characters height and eye size, could this be done without doing everything from scratch again?

Are our avatars also stored as a datafile with all the changes, or just as a picture? If not, why is that? There's so many logical reason to have such an option that I simply can not understand CCP didn't make the extra effort.
- we could save our "work" halfway (or completed one but then load it for another character - we could go back when redoing our character (via petition or otherwise) and alter our existing avatar instead of having to remake it from scratch (which will ofcourse never work out properly). - being able to export avatars as datafiles could start off some sort of profession, just like we now have artists make signatures, they could then create avatars and sell those ingame.

would really like to hear some more about TATTOOs
I'm very pedantic about my character looks already spent 2 hours on my first character. Having to go through the whole process again when tattoos come out is a pain. What annoys me most is I havn't heard anything except that it's coming soon(tm). Eve has trained me to be paranoid so the lack of news is giving me all sorts of nightmares (like having to pay to get any *shudder*).
Since it didn't make opening release just don't rush it, the difference between coming out 3 weeks late or 3 months late isn't that much. What I'm worried about now is that a lot of the things I'd love to see (battle tattoos, meaning/language behind tattoos etc.) won't be in cause your rushing to get it out on the server fast. ------------------------------ God is an afk cloaker |

As for the undo bar, AKA the history slider, it wasn¦t quite ready to be released. We plan to get it back into the character creator soon.
It raises the question that if the staggered release was to cut down on incomplete features, why is the new character creator mandatory for us to use when it's missing something as 'simple' as an undo button?
Whilst I understand and accept that 'trinkets' will be a vanity item for purchase it seems to be missing fundemental basics as it currently stands. Clothing seems limited, seriously limited compared to the tech demo video (skirts, dresses, shirt & makeup options, etc) and as stated it's missing core functionality (undo button).
So why isn't this marked as 'beta' and optional for us to use much as the neocom & contracts updates were anticipated to be?

Edited by: Captain Campion on 19/01/2011 22:56:13 A 3d view and a 200x200 preview aren't good enough.
To get it right I need: - to see my character in a station with other characters - to see a preview the size of a portrait in chat - to see a preview the size of the character sheet portrait
Without this, I can't make the right choices.
I also want to make my character really black. It seems I'm unable to do so, this is discrimination.

Wow. you are an unhappy individual! I'm not sure what your problem really is. It would be impossible to import your old 2D low quality head shot onto a new 3D high quality body. Not only impossible, but impractical and ridiculous. Yes there have been changes to this game as it has evolved. And yes these changes cause a lot of us inconvenience and in some cases a lot of time/effort/work we've invested in them. Yes, it sucks that your PI has been reduced by 2/3. But everyone's has. They did that to address some sort of balance issue. Yes, the speed nerf really hurt a lot of people that had trained their character to use speed as a method of defense that could no longer do so, at least not effectively. And yes, it's sad to lose that tiny little face that you designed so long ago and have grown to know (as well as the faces of your corp mates!), but such is the price of progress my friend. And this progress isn't easy. Even something as unimportant to the gameplay of EVE as creating your character has caused a LOT of problems for the players and therefore the devs as well. But once the issues have been worked out and the flaws ironed out, more progress can come after. YOU might not want ambulation. But looking at these forums a LOT of people are really looking froward to that. It is unlikely that CCP would halt progress toward that end because you (and you're not alone!) want to keep their old portrait. Would you want them to halt all progress so as not to step on anyone's toes? Would you have them reload EVE to it's 2003 Beta version? Just take advantage of these new features and make the best of it like we all have!

Edited by: Bruttius Sulla on 19/01/2011 23:12:45 The picture that ends up looking the very worst in game is the chat picture (32x32). I suggest you include versions of each portrait in some standard sizes at the finalize stage... 32, 64, 256, 512. At 256x256 the pictures look about the same in the creator as they do in game. The lighting and lighter hues seem to really effect smaller versions of the portraits making them look really blurry in game.

In this image, you're still missing a critical problem that makes the creation process needlessly obtuse.
That snapshot in the dialogue box needs to be much larger. Why not use the full-res local render that the camera creates? It already exists, and we can already get at it by skipping out of the client, so why not use it? Why use a far too small snapshot that doesn't tell you what the result actually looks like?
supporting this or i need to buy glasses first time in my life to see tiny avatars details Also please make sure that lights must affect on background color not only the character model. And add more warm temperatures ffs!
