I've played around with the creator for a bit now and I have concluded that it's the worst character creator that i've ever used.
Where's the undo option?
Where's the animation toggle. How are you supposed to see what little tweaks do, if the sodding character keeps moving?
Why do the morph tools suddenly vanish for the face for no apparent reason, meaning I can no longer tweak things?
Why is it that 50% of the time, upon starting up the character creator, does one of the morph glows become permanent and not turn off no matter what I do, forcing a game quit to get rid of them?
Why was there more customisability in the original creator, I always thought upgrading something meant to make it better?
Why does the creator need higher specs than the main game in order to run properly?

It would be really cool for the future recustomization functinality if the server wouldn't only remember the morph settings for the character itself, but also the angel, zoom, expression etc for the portrait stage.
Saying this because after the very welcome recustomization I am now very pleased with my character picture and I don't think I'd change it again because the angle was rather hard to get right, however if I could apply tattoos or whatever or even change the haircut once in a while without spending another 30 minutes to recreate the shot itself this would be very, very cool.
Next point is, you may have this planned already but maybe not so I'll say it anyways, for Incarna it would be very useful to have the ability to change the avatar without changing the picture, much like people in rl who don't get a new driver's license picture after every haircut.
Would make me very glad if these points were implemented. BTW the character creation is really amazing already, can't imagine how cool it will be once all the planned assets are implemented.

This new "feature" stinks! 1. I liked my old picture just fine. Why not give the option of keeping the old one? 2. Most of the new pictures look like Barbie or Ken. Where is the old wardog (yarr!) that defined the Eve player? One eye, missing half an ear, **** pillage and burn but not necessarily in that order. 3. I finally broke down and created the portrait. After I hit save, the result did not look like what I had created. 4. IMHO character portraits wasn't broke, so the time "fixing" it was wasted. Time that was desperately needed to fix the real problems with Eve, like the increasing lag since Incursion was installed. 5. If I get a chance for a do-over, aviator glasses are a must. In the meantime, anybody got a paper bag? |

I really like the new character customization. The only problem I seem to have with it is the hood option on Amarrian characters:
When I made my first character, I could not find the hood, so I made him without one. Yet, I got "ninja hooded" when I relogged later. When I made my character the second time, I found the hood (under toggle options on the robe), but it doesn't show up in-game. What a bummer.

So far like new portrait tool, but sthng was f... i made first avatar, not all options worked, ok nv, got possibilities for new portrait, did it and what i've got after re-logging 3 hours later, in my own overview got oldest portrait, view from other my char is more interesting because its slightly different shot, not that one i've accepted and got few hours before but other one from 4th shots i've made today, difference is simple i've chosen portrait with closed eyes (got it on start up screen only) but actually ingame i've got eyes visible \o/ i'm not blind any more! paranoia.

Edited by: Oleski on 23/01/2011 06:09:02 I want to thank you for the chance at redoing the portrait. However, I did this and the old one still shows in my Character sheet and top left corner of screen whereas my new one shows in chat box and login screen... Think you CCP guys could help me out on this one? I don't want to have a 'split persona.' lol
If possible, could I get a reply via mail? Thank you! |

I updated mine yesterday and now in game he has no profile picture at all after clearing cache. Also the picture shows on this forum but its not the one I chose, I had his eyes shut. It was actually showing that picture yesterday until I re-logged, now its using some other shot.
Please advise if there are known issues with recreating the character profile picture. |

In my display and graphics settings, "low quality characters" is automatically checked, and "physically simulated cloth and hair" is automatically unchecked. I cannot change these settings. I can only assume these settings are forced on me because of limitations of my graphics card. Limited as the full character creator may be, it is far more limited with these options forced on me.
I am using a Radeon HD 3850 512MB graphics card, it is about 3 years old. I don't have any trouble running the Eve client with full graphics settings with this card, it is only the character creator that gives me trouble.
Has CCP announced what capabilities a system's graphics card must have in order to run the character creator with full options? If so, can someone point me to the announcement? If not, can I request a dev look into us and tell us what our systems must have to actually use the full capabilities of the new character creator? |

Dear CCP
Please allow all players to recustomize their character a limited number of times.
This would allow all players a chance to learn to use the character creator to its fullest (not everybody has an account on the test server), and try out different possibilities for making a portrait. Right now there is still an issue with server renders being different than what you see in the character creator. I admit that the differenses are subtle, (a blinking eye, the curve of a mouth, the softness of the render), but even subtle changes can make a huge impact on the way facial features are interpreted.

The way my portrait looks in-game and the way it looks on the forums are completely different. Looking at my portrait with my main account and then from my alt's account, they're completely different. They don't even look like the same person. Lighting effects do not work at all when I'm trying to create a portrait. The controls for changing my body shapes were not working at all. Hair styles weren't loading properly some of the time. Preview photos of your portrait are much too small.
CCP, we really need to fix a few things and give this yet another try.
What I created, like, and see from my own account in-game:

Once just doesn't seem to be enough. I used the re-customization to change the fact that my hair did not meet my shoulders. Like I was wearing an invisible coat. In the CC screen, this appeared to be fixed, so I accepted that change. The problem now is: It didn't fix it. The hair was fixed in the CC display, and finalized, yet ingame the hair is still floating, and not only that, but when I went into the re-customization, it changed the opacity of makeup. There is far too much gloss on my lips, and not dark enough eye-shadows. If I had known these didn't persist through the re-customization, this wouldn't have been a big issue. First: You dont like the overall outcome. Second: You fix the problems you had earlier without remembering to check all the other little details. Third: You have learned from both mistakes. Just my thoughts.

My new portrait is somewhat lacking in comparison to the one I made 7 yeas ago. I am already missing the fact that the "Metal Bits" in/on my characters face are gone. I designed my character to look much like I invisioned the Sansha's Nation populace to look like. Now that that the metal bits are gone it seems kinda strange. At least I managed to make Him look mostly like myself. Only offside is the fact I couldn't quite get the facial hair I wanted, but that might change in the future. Would also like to see "Ambulation" come around soon. That way I might be able to actually play the game again because the wife-to-be will want to play again! Her stance was "No Full Avatar, I don't Want to Play this Right Now," and the introduction of a Full Avatar to which she was able to customize made her think this game might have hope to play again. |

I never actually got a do over on my portrait. I guess this was offered before I made mine. I was happy when I created it but after the lighting was applied in game it completely changed the look. This is a problem because the lighting effects do not work for me in the creator. I couldn't know how it would look in game.
Is there any chance I could get the do over I never had? I feel everyone should have several chances at creating the portrait they want considering some of the problems that exist. Please consider this CCP.

Lol, I was given a chance to redo my char, but lookie, the hood is still there, in the form of the pink ring. Again, that's not the portrait I saved and finalized. What is going on? I said what? |

1) Race and bloodline limitations
- I like my race and bloodline. I originally picked them partially based on the in-game description and partially on how the original portraits looked.
- Since I don't get to re-pick this for the new character creator, I'm stuck with whatever CCP decided these bloodlines will look like.
- One example, my original avatar was black. Now he cannot be black. I feel this could be offensive to a lot of people.
Exactly. There's been threads and posts about this for months now, even proposals to change bloodline and/or race and/or at least swap portraits with other races/bloodlines - and neither CCP or the CSM (who are supposed to represent us) have EVER written any comment about this issue.
When I picked my character I chose the one who looked what was the best available to me at that time; only Achura and Khanids had access to this nice sleek hairstyle. Now I'm forced to look asian and have a very tanned look, while my original character was pretty pale and looked european. This is definitely NOT what I would have picked in the frist place, it's just forced upon me. Yes I know, some people couldn't care less, well do I care a lot!
CSM? CCP? Stop ignoring this issue?
hey thx ccp for nothing
its impossible for me to create a chare that looks like my old one
where are my cat-eyes and my tatoos both are main features of my old char?!?
and where is my hair the two "rasta" hairstyles just look like ****, i dont want to have half of my face hiden behind hair, i only want to cover my ears like in my old char.
why cant i change my bloodline i only choose it for its look that i can't recreate now -.-
dont get me wrong i love the new chareditor, but with the stuff you put in there to create my char it sucks big time.
hell i would build the stuff i need myself but i cant upload it to your server :p
and what are the glasses? 7 times the same glass only with different darkness wtf why do you need 7 moddels for that its just texture opacity and color.
i hope all this gets changed before i am forced to recreate my chars or i stop playing eve because atm i only log in from time to time trading a bit to get 1 plex per month and updating skills, but if you kill my char why should i go on paying for basicly not playing the game like i do now.

I am not happy about the new creator. I can not create the same or similar photo of my toon from before. What happened to tattoos for mimatar? And the only long hair option for males is dreads? WTF is that about? Boring at best.

Please quit putting this hood on me whenever I'm not looking. Do you really think I'm that ugly?
You allowed me to fix this problem before after sneaking a hood on me. Now the hood has reappeared again without my having placed it. Will I have to file a bug report in order to re-customize my portrait again?

First and although there are several details needing some review, i'd like to congratulate CCP dev team for your work !! I'm impressed by all major improvements you bring on the game since its first release.
Concerning the character creator, i passed at least 2h recustomizing only one of my characters, with a great pleasure !!
That being said, i'm like others gamers, perfectionist and fussy on details , so even in a positive feeling, i have to write back all things that should be reviewed, to my mind :
(some have already been brought up) - An UNDO function would be great !!! - Pretty good 3D engine but many bugs on shadows and hair !! - More possibilities in hair colours and hair style !! - More more clothes !! ^^ And clothes customization if possible. - More lights (like previous version of character creator) - In a future release, please don't put limits (moreover illogical) on your great improvements ! For examples, ok we can't change physical appearance since the character is finalized, but we could change hair style, hair colour, clothes, even make up, like in real life :) As well, it would be cool sometimes to change portrait (like posture, facial expressions). Of course, the best would be an animated portrait that we can move :)). I know i know, i might as well wait for incarna ! - Some accessories - Animation control !! (it's quite annoying to modify facial features when this face is moving ^^) I say all that because Eve is highly specialized, i could even say "professional" great game and that's why you should make the players feel "owning" the game, not juste playing it. So avoid (when technicaly possible) to put limits on minor features, mostly those who concern "role play" and "unique" aspects.
Anyway, it doesn't take anything away from your work !!! Also i have no doubt some of these features will be implemented in a future release. But it think this is important because like some players said, some aspects seem to be more limited than in previous version. ______________________________ Sorry for my unperfect english |

Char creator is not working for me ... My comp is old, ok. But I still can play Eve. I don't really care about my portrait but what will happen if I don't have the new one and time is up ? I don't really mind if I get 'generic' one. My only option is to pay a visit to a friend with stronger hardware but thats not exactly solution I would like to choose.
Any feedback from you CCP guys ? I see there is quite a lot of ppl who have the same problem...
