As you can see the status has not changed from the last update, it's still 21:30 UTC...
Downtime HAS been extended to 23:30, if you look at the eve main site homepage you will see for yourself..... sorry for ****ing on your bonfire matey :)
I know, I've seen that now, there was a small white link on the news homepage I hadn't followed.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |

I remember him saying that and thinking 'Really? You don't know your own game?'

Hey guys, well it looks like according to the frontpage that EVE is not supposed to be back up until 23:30 UTC. But if you click on the link for the same post it says that it will be back up at 21:30 UTC. Let's hope that its 21:30.

My point. They had the market with Everquest and got wiped by WoW. That must hurt. If I was a Sony exec, I would not forget this...

EVE Online: Incarna 1.0 is currently being deployed. Database updates took longer than expected, and have performed additional updates to a level one mission arc. This has resulted in an extended downtime. We expect to open Tranquility to the players at 23:30 UTC.

Come on guys, give CCP a break.. Like Torfi said it's like changing an engine on a car while its doing 200 around a track - the biggest update EVE has ever seen since it's release and no matter how much they can try it on the test servers, Tranquility server is very different. If they get something wrong it could end up completely screwing things up and u might be waiting much longer than a few hours of extended downtime.

Yes it is exactly like that....except the car is sitting still...and not running, and the person working on the engine is the person who designed and built the car. He supposedly has intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the motor...so yeah it's excatly like that execpt for those few things.

Ah ha, actually I do have control over CCP...let me introduce you to the power of the people. Watch this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbbYbXS4zRM
When I first saw the link it didn't actually take me anywhere but I wanted to see your input so I manually entered it. If you really think trying to band everyone together to try to threaten CCP is going to work, good luck to you. I really mean that. However, here's why I don't believe it will work.
During this entire thread of people complaining both at the downtime and at each other, I've seen maybe 12 or people not just frustrated or annoyed but fully angered or enraged over the matter. Now I could be a fair bit off so in interest of simpler math as well as allowing for my own errors (as I do not wish to go through every page of this again) I'm bringing it up to 20, an extra 67% over what I figured. Now there are likely people that have read this thread that feel the same way but for whatever reason haven't posted. This could be that they feel the point has already been made or don't want people firing back at them or so on. Let's give a rough estimate of 50 people agreeing per person that posted.
So we've got a total of one thousand people ready to up and threaten CCP that they will take their money and move on. That's $15,000 a month lost revenue. Seems like a good hit at first.
CCP reported over 225,000 players in 2008.Source Data CCP also reported over 360,000 players in January of this year. Source Data
If we were to look at this as a roughly linear progression they are gaining 45,000 people a year. Your little 0.27% of the customer base that up and leaves will be replaced in 8 days.

So when your boss tells you that he "expects" you to finish a project by a certain deadline and you don't what usually happens? When a construction project is expected to finish by a certain date and doesn't what happens? When you are expected to show up in court for not paying your child support and you don't show up what happens? (I know you have issues with this). There are consequences when you fail to meet expectations. Please tell me what is the result of failed expectations with this game?
I'm sorry to inform you that these situations are not identical. Allow me to elaborate.
Firstly when a person becomes employed by a place of business often times they are the ones to have to sign the terms, not the employer. This is diametrically opposite of the client/service, since the receiver of the money has to do the signing. The employer has not signed a form that allows the provider of the work to change the deadline as they need. If the employee fails at meeting deadline it is within the employer's right to terminate employment, as you are free to stop paying CCP for their service.
When a construction company takes on a job they sign a contract setting a legally reinforced completion date. If it is not completed the company is dropped from the contract without being paid. Again here the receiver of the money is the primary signer of the agreement, with the hiring body signing merely to say the company will be paid upon completion.
As for your third example, since it both is a feeble attempt at a personal attack and not a cash for service situation, I do not feel obligated to explain it to you.
What we have with an EVE Online account has a very distinct difference with the above situations: You are both the one to sign the agreement and the one supplying money. If you do not like the results you are free to move on to a different game, as the boss would hire a new employee or the hiring body would hire a new construction company. What you have not seemed to grasp is that you do not have control of CCP at all. You are the one that agreed to their terms, not the other way around. As such, you can be as angry as you feel justified, but it will not make a single difference because you are bound to that agreement whether to read it or not. You scrolled to the bottom and clicked accept. Therefore, you can either accept the delay or move on to another game.
+1 because this a well thought out argument, and every word of it is true... -1 because this is part f what is wrong with the free market economy, corporations are no longer held accountable for shoddy craftsmanship, failed deadlines and poor customer service because now we have no choice, it's either their way or you can get your skittles somewhere else...
CCP can help change the world for the better if they hold themselves accountable over giving us the finger and telling us to shove off... Which they have have done neither in this case, it's just sucks that they're having a hard time and everyone is frustrated. But you still get the -1 for not wanting some kind of compensation and just accepting that because it's in your EULA that "That's just the way it is..."
Companies should respect their customer and be willing to provide some compensation for a full day of downtime, no matter how small it is just so that we know that they have a respect for us and want us to continue to playing Eve and not move to Vendetta, because in the end, WE'RE paying THEIR paychecks and they AREN'T paying MY or YOUR paychecks, right...?
I agree 100% with you

I'm not saying I'd turn down some form of compensation for the time. We all would appreciate it if CCP were to hand out some game time or skill points or whatever. The point I try to make is that demanding or threatening to leave is a fruitless endeavor.

GooD job again CCP staff in removing yet more features to make small corps PvP even harder.
Why ? I do not know.
EvE is currently a PvE orientated game with thousands of subscribers dependant on blobs to do PvP .

The time to whine has come. This is not my style and I have other things to do so I will do them. I have heard it said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. CCP consistently misses deadlines and then post some "thank you for your understanding" post as the deadline they release makes the whooshing sound as it goes by.
Really you have the intelligence to program this awesome game but you continue to underestimate the amount it will take to install a major patch or release. The well of understanding has long since dried up. You act like you have harsh customers when the began to complain about a deadline that you set for yourself. Your client base is obviously fed up with your optimistic estimates of the time a patch will require.
A wise person once told me one of the three sources of upset is unfulfilled expectations, you set a deadline your clients plan their day around the commitment you made to them and then BOOM! Here comes the unfulfilled expectation. The deadline goes flying by and they are sitting there think great I could have went to a movie but I wanted to log into INCARNA the minute it came up.
I would like to suggest that you have patch day. Just announce that eve "could" be down an entire day, please plan accordingly. There the expectation is set and your clients will wander out of doors and reintroduce themselves to friends and family, maybe eat a hot meal or perhaps speak to someone who doesn't know what an incursion is.
It is CCP's responsibility to set and manage expectations. It is not their place to mock their clients (we know you do), or be bitter about the pronounced reaction to yet another missed deadline. Everyone who receives a paycheck from CCP should thank whatever god they pray to each day that Eve fans are as rabid and addicted to the game as they are, if they weren't 2 or 3 missed deadlines would result in noticeable declines in the subscriber base. There are very serious and noticeable flaws in the customer service that CCP provides, it wouldn't hurt to stop and look at how you interact with your subscriber base before some other gamin company does and steals your clients. CCP has set new standards and broke new ground repeatedly in the MMO arena, it would really be great if you made a commitment to making customer service the next place you set a new standard.
tl;dr Upset comes from unfulfilled expectations, CCP is the one setting these expecations. They continually set deadlines that are missed and it results in a bit of emo rage from within the community. CCP should set deadlines that they have a reasonable expectation of hitting.

uhmm, you did sign to fully agree to anything what ccp does. ive read the terms of agreement a day, i was really bored during DT, and somewhere it does say that ccp is allowed to pospone an update indefinatly, and that u are not allowed to complaint about it or take any actions against it.

LOL, I never demanded anything... I'm a realist, CCP is a corporation, corporations exist to make money. To maximize their profits they need to accommodate as many people as possible in order to prevent losing clients and potential clients to emerging mmo's in the same genre...
I threaten nor demand nothing, I'm not doing anything to anyone, CCP is hurting themselves with a flawed business strategy by letting a large percentage of their client base get frustrated and build them up and make them wait for hours on end with EVERY update with little to no compensation in return...
On the other hand so many people will jump in-game and forget any of this thread ever happened and will care less how long they waited no matter how much they "threatened" or "demanded" compensation...
In the end, I'm merely pointing out poor business practice, especially poor business practice that runs rampant and unchecked in the corporate world and is slowly destroying the free market economy...
