I've stayed out of this until now, reamining hopeful and optimistic.
I needn't of bothered. This blog was a total cop out. It adressed NONE of the core complaints and issues that are being thrown about the forums. I have no idea how you can possibly compare a real life item of any worth, to that of something in a game you'll only see RARELY, if you even have your CQ enabled.
This blog shows without a shadow of a doubt the disconnect between devs and players. All over the forums, in game and amongst personal blogs and gaming websites there has been an outcry of the likes you rarely see in gaming. It's all to do with your chosen MT model, and the current prices on the NeX. How can you possibly consider adding yet more expensive items above that already available, when people are raging at the rediculous prices you currently have? This brash grab for money will do nothing but leave you dry.
You still haven't addressed as to whether MT will remain vanity or not and i for one hope this is an oversight. There is no way, ever, that the EvE community will accept a Pay to Win model, not a chance. You can try and force it down our throats as best you can, we'll spit it right back in your face. You can forget DUST, you can forget WoD. You've shown your hand now and you've lost.

This response is garbage. You addressed nothing with actual answers.
And yes, jeans can cost $1000 dollars in real life, but how does that translate to $80 for an in game face accessory?
You don't change more money for a face accessory than the game costs.
Again, this response is garbage.

Oh, one other thing.
When you say "Whatever you choose to do reflects what you are and what you want others to think you are", you are absolutely right. THAT is why I don't own a $1000 pair of jeans, and why I might not log back in.
I guess you did clarify things after all.

DON'T FORGET THAT.
I know loads of people unsubbing because your just ****ting on the people that made your success possible....
That is not how you run a business... You WANT your customers happy, not angry and leaving you.

I appreciated that blog, and I appreciate the fact that CCP is sticking by their decisions. Though I was never stupid enough to get all upset in the first place.
People have to play devils advocate in internal discussions, or else decisions will be based off a poor discussion. Microtransactions in Eve are not like other games anyway, you can buy it all with isk.

Edited by: Shrike Malakim on 24/06/2011 21:29:06 I was a new player, still on my first month of playtime and planning to be here for a while.
I've now unsubbed, and won't be resubbing if this continues in the thread you're implying through lack of actual response.
Clear statements about intent in your internal newsletter *do* show just how little you think of players.

Frankly that is truely pathetic as responses go, as for your jean metaphor don't be absurd. And lets not forgot you've failed to answer the big question. I'm of to champions online, for $70 I can buy most of their microtransaction shop.

This is such a letdown. At least you could've said something like things were taken out of context but we got the message that this is a very sensitive and important issue for you and we'll approach and communicate it with great care. Instead we just got...
The whole problem here is that the newsletter clearly wasn't a "for the sake of argument" pro-con discussion! Allow me to quote p.11 again; "On the opposite end of the scale to vanity items are performance based items such as weapons. They are consumed through gameplay,..." "Selling them though, is highly controversial. We are planning on doing so."
I think it's pretty clear where the focus lies, any and all "creative" methods to gain more revenue from MTs. I expected a more sincere effort at trying to voice a response which at least would've put some of us a little at ease that you may have gotten what a bunch of people are so worked up about.. If that 15 minute write-up is the fruit of a day+ internal discussions, this is worse than I thought.

I can't say anything better than it has already been, but I feel that CCP insulted us by thinking our main concern was the price of some virtual shirts. Thanks CCP, I am glad it is OK to continuing not giving a **** about vanity items.
We see through your dodge. We are smarter than that, and you should be too.

That was so illuminating.... ON HOW MUCH YOU HAVE COMPLETELY IGNORED THE ISSUE!
Really?? That's all you guys have to say after more than a day of thought?? Do you have an eve-disability? In inability to understand eve? To form concepts and respond to environmental stimuli?
Here's a test... - -- --- eve community says, "CCP, we don't want non-vanity to be up for purchase on the NEx"
CCP says... "Hey look, this room looks awesome! It's so cool!" --- -- - <sits back> yes... yes I seee... I think you could very much benefit from this drug.. mmhmmm, yes, now make sure you listen to the big men in the white coats when you leave this room.. no, no the door's that way, yes.. ok bye now have a nice day.

CCP have made a nice game... i hope they dont ruin it by ignoring their players too much...
In response to your '$1000 Jeans' potion of the dev blog... WE ARE NOT BUYING A PAIR OF JEANS.
If you sell 10 of these at $60... you make $600 if you sell 10,000 of them for $6... or 1,000,000 of them for $0.6 bucks you actually make MORE money...
We are playing a game and to think you are making a useless item in the game cost so much is an insult to all of your players. Why make something that so few will use.
You are wasting OUR money on designing art stuff for sale at crazy prices.... please SPEND OUR MONEY MORE WISELY. I Love EVE, and it was a lot better a few months ago... Walking in stations is nice... could lead to some nice things... but your strive for a player based economy has just been killed by your own microtransactions store.
The way i see it... you have 2 choices... since your subscribers are obviously outraged... either reduce the prices in the AUR store or scrap it completely...

missed this little gem the first time
"We hope you enjoy them and are as passionate about them as you are of the current items that are for sale." CCP zulu.
you are mistaking passion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uelHwf8o7_U) and hatred (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGz3uyCNZCM) hopefully this helps you learn the difference between the 2 but seeing as you still think the issue is prices and not the fact that you are literally driving the player base to RIOT IN GAME at the trade hubs im not getting my hopes up. |

two things came clear with this devblog:
first, no, you can't overheat Damage control mods;
and second:
because if there ever was a devblog where you say so many :words: to say nothing at all, this is one. ---

I write this knowing you'll likely never see this but your letter to your customers was an insult. It was insulting to ignore the fact that the real issues and questions have evolved beyond the newsletter and it's content. We know it's not necessarily the policy of CCP. We don't know what is the policy of CCP. That's the issue.
As you trying to spin incarna's launch positively, it was both ill-formed and can only be read as a chided retort to the anger form your customers that simply do not know where they stand.
It seems to me that if CCP is really interest in the MMO genre and believe in the social gaming genre, you have an opportunity to change this fiasco into something special.
1. Keep talking to your customers, we make your pay day possible. 2. Be open and make solid assurances on the way forward. 3. Be the bravest company in the industry and open the company to being bought by your players. float the company publically and give your customers a real voice.
Of course this would take balls, it would require you to be FEARLESS!
you man enough for it?
