This weekend Duality will be coming online courtesy of the EVE Gameplay teams. This time we're taking a look at Retribution in the works. So for you tldr people out there, this is for you:
Duality will be online starting Friday October 26th. It should be online from 13:00 or shortly after Super Friends will be online on Duality, from 17:00 UTC Friday October 26th. (And probably a few more developers too.) Duality will remain online until the morning of Tuesday October 30th. If you are going to be on Duality join the chat channel Duality. I will be in that channel offering any support I can for people testing, answering questions, and testing myself. If you need to be moved I will be happy to help you from that channel while I am online. I will be moving people to our test system 6-CZ49, to assist with bounty hunting. (And also having fun)
Features available to test:
Team Super Friends really wants you to check out some of our features for EVE Online: Retribution. But the list won't stop at just our features!
Here is a quick feature list for some key areas: (Please provide feedback specific to these changes, to these following forum threads)
Team Super Friends - Bounty Hunting. ASB (Ancillary Shield Booster) changes. Salvage Drones. Micro Jump Drive. Reactive Armor Hardener changes. Team Five 0 - AI Changes & More. Team Pony Express - HUD changes (Also note that the HUD changes include a work-in-progress new in space damage notifications) Team Game of Drones - Unified Inventory changes Team Game of Drones - Attack Cruisers Team Game of Drones - Combat Cruisers Team Gridlock - Fleet Hangar changes
Mass Testing AI
On top of this, Team Five 0 would like to run a mass test on Monday, October 29th, at 14:00 EVE time. During this time we would like to test the performance impact of the new AI having been applied to everything. For details about this mass test, see FoxFour's thread here.
Connecting to Duality:
Copy your main Eve install to a different folder. Then create a shortcut to that folder's launcher (eve.exe). Right click on that shortcut on the desktop, go into "Properties" and in the "Target" field put a space after the last entry in the field and type /server:87.237.38.60 to force the launcher to point towards Duality. Once you run that shortcut the launcher will download the most recent patch for Duality and get you ready to connect. CCP Paradox | EVE Quality Assurance | Team Super Friends @CCP_Paradox |

That means Support Frigates, EWar Frigates, Exploration Frigates, Combat Frigates, Rebalanced Destroyers, New Destroyers, Combat Cruisers, Attack Cruisers, Support Cruisers, Ewar Cruisers, the ORE Frigate and all weapon and rep changes including Version 2.0 of the Missile changes!

I recognize it may be impossible at this date, but why don't you seed the NPC hubs with faction mods. If you want a proper test of the AI, under conditions closest to TQ conditions, I think you need to add faction mods.
Case in point: My Ishtar is a dead duck tank-wise and has serious fitting issues if I don't use faction shield mods. And the vast majority of PvE players fit faction items to their boats to maximize tank and DPS. |

Please all come and test the latest snapshot of the EVE Online: Retribution expansion this Friday and weekend. The scheduled deployment is 4 Dec so we have about a month and a half to gather your feedback, and then finish, polish and ship it!

Nice new notifications. Option to move needed badly. Punkturis says its in work YES.
Point camera option in Selected items window needs an option for a second selected item so drones and target of the drones can be be both viewed. Location of camera focus needs to be changable. But looks good for now.
New shop graphics look good.
Micro jump drive needs new icon. Timers needs work so they show at all times.
Place bounty button needs to be a diffrent color.
Place bounty amount screen needs a confirmation option.

On the left 'arm' of the Myrmidon, above the third and fourth hardpoint is a black mark embedded into the hull, that isn't present on the right arm. It looks like a glitch with the bump map and you can easily see it in the ship viewer if you zoom and check above those hardpoints. It's been there since the V3 revamp as far as I can remember. |

I was looking for the salvage drone skillbook and the drone itself but cannot seem to find them. Were they put into this release?
Also, the text for the new crimewatch hangs over just a tad too long.
And could the "point camera to selected item" be moved to the bottom of the box? Having it at the top could pose a risk if you accidently click it and then de-orient yourself while in the middle of pvp.
But I do love the new crimewatch stuff, icons and "safety" feature. Looks to be an awesome expansion so far... |

I have illustrated my thoughts on the "Point camera to selected item" feature here. On top of making the default position lower, it would be nice to give us the option of customizing where the default position is.
Was a new soundtrack added? Even though I didn't have the Jukebox running, I was presented with music. I've never heard these tracks before. If they are new, they're great! I really like how each track seamlessly connects.

Some feedback for the new damage notifications: there is too much duplicate info being displayed.
Merge damage from a flight of drones drones into one message please.
Sometimes other messages seem to show twice (it's a bit hard to tell because they disappear so quickly). |

On the subject of damage notifications, it would be great if we could change the size of the font for them and customize where they appear on the HUD.
Some of the black box notifications are still present. It would be great if those notifications looked like the new damage notifications. |

Why not just test it on, oh i don't know, the primary test server? (you just might get more feedback that way) This telling ppl to keep switching their Test Server client to the FOTM is getting old. Sisi is stuck running the Dust closed beta on a old TQ build. Until Dust goes open beta and moves to TQ it is unusable except for dust interaction testing. Dust also has a tournament running for the next couple of weeks so that transition will not be soon.
Duality is winter deployment stuff that is predeployment state. That means coded it would not normaly get on Sisi is out there for use to test and help guided CCP to make better choices when there is time for them to make changes.
Buckingham is running a TQ mirror for so people can practice for the Tournament that will start in a month. Also its the current Sisi: all code going to TQ gets deployed on Bucky first. Like the suprise last week.
All three servers are important for the growth of the game and I am glade they are up and running. |

Can't see the icons (or list or details) of anything in my inventories. It tells me how much volume it is taking up and a price estimate for everything. I cant see anything in my cargo either. I can see my stuff in the asset window. have rebooted system, re entered station, set all graphics to high/low.
I can get it by sorting my inventory. But I have to do that every time I switch tabs.... |

The reason for the multiple test servers is that we are working on multiple releases, and for that matter on multiple games.
Singularity is the production server for the beta of DUST 514. It is running alongside Tranquility with the combined EVE Online + DUST 514 version of Inferno 1.3 whereas TQ is running the same code and same tech stack but with DUST not connected and therefore the DUST code is mostly inert and the DUST components are scaled for configuration test purposes only. Note that I referred to SiSi as a "production server for beta", which is an intermediate step between a test server and a production server, but since people have paid to play the DUST 514 beta then we are treating it much more like a production server.
Buckingham and Multiplicity are then the public and private test servers we use for SiSi and Tranquility; we release EVE and DUST updates to both SiSi and TQ (we then have even more test servers on the staging branch for that code).
Duality is the public test server for Retribution 1.0, scheduled for deployment to both SiSi and TQ on 4 Dec.
Depending on what we need tested then different test servers will be open. SiSi and TQ, as production servers, are always open, but Buckingham and Duality, as test servers, will be open at different times for different purposes. Erlendur S. Are the turret audio final? Some of them sound somewhat similar and could use more distinction. They're also missing that extra *umpf*
By similar I mean the hybrid medium have little auditorial difference between them. They have the same-ish startup, which sounds like a laser from a starcraft 2 battlecruiser. If you heard them in a fight you wouldn't recognize which one is which. This also counts for medium/large blasters/railguns, and Medium & Large Lasers. Idea; you could make the tachyon/or large lasers sound something like a Reaper Laser from Mass Effect 3.
TL;DR Turrets need to have their own sound-niche, if that's even a word, and are lacking that extra ''punch''

I am in a Vargur running Sansha Vengeance Level IV.
I have perfect gunnery skills, using 2 T2 Gyros and 2 T2 Tracking Enhancers. I should have a range, according to YOUR ingame stats, of 3.9 km optimal, 62 km first falloff,. which jives with EFT.
I can't figure out why I seem to be missing everything, or barely touching it. Oh yeah, I am being tracking disrupted, and my optimal plus falloff are like 15 km. I found that out when I mouse-overed my guns, since the TD is not showing up on the HUD or in the overview. The NPC's webbing icon does in both places though.
But since I can't tell which NPC's are tracking disrupting me, I can't try to target them.
And yes, I have filed a bug report on Duality. |

Thanks for the audio feedback, it's really nice to hear that you actually went through these. We in the audio department spent quite a lot of time updating all the turrets and making a lot of changes and cosmetic changes to the entire structure of the audio system, creating a much "bigger" experience, so we really need the feedback to meditate upon.

The turrets are "final". Meaning that your feedback is really good to us and I will go over them an extra time to make sure that your experience of the "too little" changes between them is not just because some of them happen to have the same files.

Thought the squares where fine the way they were. Not sure if circles are necessary. If the damage indicators ran clock wise, shields, armor, hull, it would be more intuitive.
The new damage notifications are very nice.
The salvage drones really need to be able to salvage on their own or give them more speed, alot more speed, to get from wreck to wreck. And if they don't salvage on their own not sure if anyone would use them.
The new Caldari desi, with poor missile skills, hits harder than a pre buffed hybrids, maxed skilled, Kronos. The Kronos has an amazing look with the new Mega hull.
The new Gallente desi works ok for ratting/missioning but is limited by the lack cpu and dps.

I think it is safe to say a 20 meter long weapon will have a recoil, just the same as a 1km long weapon will have a recoil. The 1km long one should simply be louder, or more noticable, and the 20m one you should be able to hear whilst zoomed in on your ship. Also, it would be great if there were intensified sounds when weapons are overheated. |

i havent been able to log into duality at all in the last 12 hours, the launcher works but when it goes into the sign in page it wont launch it, i tried to use the repair tool and it reverted to tq or something but it had to repatch and after waiting through that it goes back to the same issue, im not having trouble with the tq server or the buckingham server sign ins just the duality, is anyone else having that problem or am i the only one? |

Docked this baby for you and got busy with the sheet metal mallet.
Some permanent armor plating repairs and some nanites around that burn damage did the trick. Also knocked out the worst of those mirroring plating seams for you.
We will keep it in the shop for some routine maintenance and its periodic ship inspection, should be good to go for the 4'th of December

ok submitted my bug report for it but i doubt thats gonna help much as i already stated my comp runs buckingham and tranq just fine it just wont pull up the duality sign in screen, i can hear it playing the sign in music and it does the black for a moment like its trying to show the screen but then the desktop appears but i cant do anything with it like the screen is up and superimposed if i try i can also type in my password without seeing it and i can hear the connecting voice and still no dice wont show me squat..... also the shortcut is set up like this in the target C:\Users\Adrian\Desktop\duality\eve.exe /server:87.237.38.60 |

Yesterday I got a first glimpse at what is coming our way this winter. There are a few perks which I don't know will be fixed in the next coming weeks but here are some thoughts that came to mind.
The mining frigate, looking cool and the first thing that came to my mind is the skill, which could be renamed to 'ORE frigate' to reflect her heritage.
The Thorax, I like the new speed, powergrid and cpu upgrades. The new added medium slot helps greatly at putting a full tackle onboard.
The Moa, didn't get the memo about the changes and was still the same.
The new gallente and caldari destroyers, have a very cool look but unfortunalely I couldn't do any kind of performance testing on capitals and Vindicators online..
A little note for the people on the test server, YES A MACHARIEL CANZ KILL A CRUISER THERE IS NO NEED TO PROVE IT OVER AND OVER AGAINZ
The UI changes, are a little confusing at first and I would have liked my damage notifications to be in the old yellow instead of the blue-ish.
What could be done would be the following, - Damage recieved in red (no change) - Turret misses in white (no change) - Damage done in yellow (instead of the blue) blue calms people and you could think that the blue notifications are information notes like 'ABC is webbing / warp scrambling / neuting you' - and maybe a textbox with increased letter sizes, so that the notifactions don't appear to 'float in space'
I like the new 'target bubbles' I just need to get used to them.
Another note on ship information, I like the 'stories' which are told in the information tabs for ships and the latest development looses at ton of the backstory of New Eden. Now there are 'traits' on the the information tabs which take away all the lore on the development. I don't know if this is intentional for all the younger players to comprehend what the ship can do or the guys at Duovolle, LaiDai, CreoDon and the like just got lazy in development but I won't point fingers here.
Mayby you can put some love into the information tabs and rename 'traits' to 'Races Frigate / Cruiser skill bonus' which just sounds better. |

New damage notifications are going to give people a siezure. They need to be moved to an additional "combat log" window. There is no way anyone can read those notifications as fast as they pop up on the screen (and I just tested in a sanctum), it was scrolling so fast it gave me a headache.
Other than that, the missiles, effects of hits on your ship, targeting icons, etc look fantastic.

Had the briefest of looks at duality, did have not had chance to try out all the things I hoped to look at but here are a few thoughts on those I have so farGǪ
The UI changes The good For a long time CCP has said that it wants to get more information off the overview and onto the main screen. The circles will take a while to get used to but they look nice and the human eye is good used to looking at clocks etc, itGÇÖs easier for us to judge a ring completing over a bar (see also model timers).
Some visual feed-back on range of ships, aggressive actions and health area all steps in the right direction; I am sure that all this good stuff this will be iterated upon and optimised. The scrolling combat text is defiantly an improvement over the previous combat message spam.
The not so good In a big fight the screen started to look a little cluttered when lots of ships were locked though again but then this just might be getting used to it and it will melt into the background when it becomes second nature to interpret all the visual cues on the fly. I would like to see some customisation options for the scrolling combat text thingy.
...Before I go on, yes I have played WoW on and off in the past, deal with it! ItGÇÖs not as deep a game as EvE (or as interesting, unsubscripted and a tonne of other thingsGǪ WoW has many floors but a few things it does, it actually does very well; the UI and modification of the UI is one of them. Now that combat information is not immediately overwritten with every new event itGÇÖs possible to actually read some of it which is clearly good...
The trouble comes when there are lots of events, particularly when drones are in play. Important information quickly zooms off the stack and is lost. Filters would be nice and or the ability to have enemy actions and your actions scroll different ways (up or down). I am not sure how but at least separating drone damage out somewhere would probably help.
Some of the ship portraits could use being re-captured as they have been framed for the square portraits and clip and look at odds with the circular frames.
New sounds This is a tricky one, I go the impression that the sound files were not working properly on the current build. Music was constantly playing and could not be stopped and the warp and jump sounds were very odd. I have been a big advocate of updating EvEGÇÖs sound font for a while; it was something that I suggested a while back in one of the surveys. A turret sound revamp and new musicGǪ possibly some kind of RNG ambient music generator which was tied to location and/or current situation (combat, exploration, WH, empire/faction) is what I would love to see.
I canGÇÖt give feed-back on these as I think my sound was acting up, on whole good direction, but form what I could tell form my limited experience some care needs to be taken to make sure each kind of turret retains a distinct sound and the larger turrets did not sound well meaty enough.
Ship Balancing Thumbs up to CCP for the ship iterations and the removal of the tier system, giving many of the underperforming T1 hulls new roles and reinvigorating them can only be a good thing. I am sure that GÇ£the balanceanatorGÇ¥ is going to be having a headache for the next few months once players figure out new tactics and fittings for them all. No specifics here, not flown them but on paper looking good.
Minmatar Ship Skins New minmatar ships look fantastic; the only real loss is jokes about explosions in girder factories. Yes lore wise in the early days most mimi ships were welded together by the A-Team in some random room full of the parts needed to make a tank or at least a battering ramGǪ I was always wondered where their kept their welding torch and acetylene where the guards didnGÇÖt think to look!
The new Tempest really is inspired; it captures the essence of the old hull while making it look awesome and new. I donGÇÖt want to break the heart of some of the art team but I am not so sure about the Vargur variant. The idea of the T2 variant of the hulls looking slightly different is constant with many other hulls.
I am not quite sure what is wrong, the shape and angles of the heat-sinks / solar collectors (or whatever you want to call them) of the new Tempest hull fit perfectly, while the circular variant looks cool but I personally donGÇÖt think it fits the angle and style of the rest of the hull and itGÇÖs armour plates. Perhaps it the surround on the vanilla tempest hull, makes them look like they arenGÇÖt about to snap of or shatter if the ship brushed up against something. Maybe itGÇÖs the variation of the forward bow; again the angles donGÇÖt complement the rest of the hull like the new vanilla tempest does. Just my opinion but I thought I would open it up for people to discuss. |

So, i have tried out the new build, most of the opinions have been already mentioned by others, i'll mention only one that keeps on bugging me since like forever: The locked target strip! It still has no friggin' option to set the desired amount of targets per row and only wraps upon reaching the very edge of the screen, which means that some targets may potentially become obscured by other UI elements, like windows (ehrmagherd!) or the system information panel in the top left corner. Please, for the love of god, it shouldn't be that difficult, introduce the friggin option!

Nope. I logged on to an account that's active on Duality, and all I see is empty space. I tried docking and I just get a picture of empty space. None of the ship previews are working for me either.

1. New NPC AI, or rather some port of the Sleeper/Incursion AI. 2. Another overhaul of FW. 3. Crimewatch 4. Bounties 5, New HUD. 6. 40 plus hull overhauls 7. Some little thing called Dust???
Please, please, slow down. Don't try to implement all this at once. Surprisingly, people are likely more forgiving if you say "hey, we bit off more than we can chew", as opposed to releasing code with untested, potentially disastrous combinations |

Things I have found so far;
'Reload All' is still not working for missiles
I have my GÇÿitemsGÇÖ and GÇÿshipsGÇÖ merged with the GÇÿstation servicesGÇÖ panel, in the GÇÿitemsGÇÖ window I keep all my GÇÿstuffGÇÖ in containers. Double clicking or shift clicking a container fails to open it the only way to open a container is by using GÇÿright clickGÇÖ, select and click GÇÿOpen ContainerGÇÖ However if I open the inventory window from the Neocom I can open any container by dragging and dropping it, shift clicking, double clicking etc.
As before IGÇÖm sorry but I still donGÇÖt like the new warp sound it really does need the GÇÿspeed up whoosh to sonic boomGÇÖ the same as TQ now.
Also there seems to be a change made to the gate jump sound, on my system (5.1 surround sound, via on-motherboard chipset), the sound has a hollow, drainpipe sound and has a noticeable GÇÿnoise burstGÇÖ as the jump completes. This sound like some others still cause a substantial FPS drop (60 fps to 17 fps) when the sound starts and during the sound duration when the sound changes.
After a 1.5 Gig download (update from TQ client to Duality), I really expected a better experience than I got, I think my old teachers would have written in my report book, GÇÿwell done but must try harderGÇÖ .

I have had a revelation regarding CCP, their dev's, and the quality of their work. Granted, many others have already recognized the truth of the matter, and I am obviously more than a little slow grasping the concept.
Iceland is an extremely small country, with a population that rivals only that of many medium size cities in Asia, Africa, Europe, South and North America. A few years ago that "powers that be" in Iceland decided to gamble heavily on international banking as major industry in Iceland. As Douglas Adams wrote in one of his books, this would be considered a "bad move". When the U.S. banks failed, given the size of the Icelandic economy, this lead to a domino effect that did hugely disproportionate damage to Icelandic economy. The results were catastrophic to Iceland. To this day, the Krona is a badly devalued currency.
One of the sad results of that devalued currency is that companies will have a hard time recruiting international talent, whatever the industry, to emigrate to Iceland to work if they get paid in Krona. Given the small size of Iceland, CCP is very hard-pressed to fill their employment needs with strictly Icelandic talent.
So given the low rate of pay that CCP can provide on an international scale when you compare the Krona to other currencies you are left with the axiom of "you get what you pay for". Sometimes, great drinking parties on the days you release a Duality build is not just good enough of attraction for good software development talent.
But of course, I could be all wrong, and superb salmon fishing within the city limits of Reykjav+¡k and beautiful blondes are all you need to attract excellent software developers and management. |

Interesting discussion. I get the impression that without some direction you are feeling undervalued as testers on the server. (This is far from correct) We could over a drink at Fanfest perhaps, or maybe Goliath or myself should write a dev blog. Food for thought.
Anyway, the fact is that Duality has been getting builds of our code much earlier than we previously have done. So you guys have had much more volatile changes at your hands. The Test Servers will be changing shortly, as we are now Staging our build into what we call HELENE. This is the targeted build for the EVE Expansion Retribution. Once we have the HELENE build onto a test server, we will then be exploring much further into the mass tests, and the more familiar testing you might be used to.
Additionally, Salpun. Teams are responsible for giving CCP Goliath changes to work with when the server gets updated. If you saw my post for my team, https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=166409 you will know that we delivered a good amount of details to you guys to test. I was responding to his build to build question. Bug fixes and stuff. The only team that has posted any major changes from the first Duality testing period build was the fleet hanger team and those changes did not get implemented in this build and where not linked in the OP
Another round of this is the state of our projects would be appreciated from the teams when you deploy the first Helene build.
The fact we went thru some builds that would not work only clouded the issue for those wanting to test.
