Hellmar just returned from London and while he was in the UK, he had an opportunity to check out E-ON before it goes off to the print shop. Needless to say, he was impressed with what he saw and decided to share his thoughts in his new Dev Blog.
He also left a hint about a new presentation coming out. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on a new trailer and video.

I have seen many many videos of Eve. I will say I have seen the bar moved way up.
I said many years ago that this game is what every sci fi has ever dream a game should be. There are no levels there are no timelines there is only one thing constant in Eve.

Advice to viewers.
Put down everything before you start watching this trailer.
I was sat with a cup of coffee in my hand, and was that immersed with this trailer that I didn't realise I was spilling the coffee all over my leg and nuts till said body parts were already medium rare.
You guys SERIOUSLY need to start TV advertising with stuff like that... I've been playing eve for about a year and a half now, and that's still jaw dropping stuff
Seriously good job.
One question to Redundancy though, how do you guys capture the ships in flight etc? Is it through the conventional means of normal camera manipulation, or do you guys haxx0r the server and use your ebil dev powers...? the footage in there is awesome

Amazing, AMAZING video. It's gorgeous in its simplicity, and the camera cuts are just stunning. I think my two favorite parts are the ships and the map transitions.
Only one question: What were those huge blinky things with tentacles orbiting Yulai X? Drone mothers? Drone Dreadnoughts? ________________________________________________

lol, so true.
The video was playing on Hilmar's laptop, the EON crew crowded around the tiny screen and when it finished we went to the pub, but at that moment, as the credits rolled, I just wanted to go home and play EVE. Probably not a good thing to turn to the CCP CEO after he's just come all the way from Iceland and say, "Beer is good, but y'know, I think I'll just head off now." ------------------------------------ Editor, EON http://www.eve-online.com/eon/ Issue #001 Oct 05 |

and such a relief that finally there is a decent sound quality in an official movie. Last year at the FanFest I was stunned (just like now) after the Exodus movie, but the sound quality of the download was so bad I think I only watched it twice at home.
And no it's not my sound system. Got a real 5.1 soundsystem hooked on my PC, not some standard computer speakers.

Excelent stuff, but I have to say the ship preview part didn't really show the Typhoon for what it is. (ie. A wide mouthed bass in space)

Thats the only thing that bugs me a little as well now ive watched it for the n'th time Ending in a front end view instead of below the main engine would have been much more effective at showing off the Typhoon, athough it gets its cameo performance later on

Absolutely the best EVE video i have ever seen, really amazing! I'm interested on the technical side of it too, in the video everything moves so smoothly. What graphic card was used, ATI/nVidia? Resolution? I have nVidia 6800gt but gameplay is far from that smoothness on the video, at least in 1600x1200 resolution. I understand that EVE runs better on ATI hardware, is this true?

I'm still grinning from this awesome video, the editing and syncing with the music is fab - particularly when the Amarrian race cuts in.
Would love to know the machine specs used there too. I'm guessing that some kind of industrial graphics card is used.
Note to CCP: need more orbiting objects to explore, and need more ships - possibly available through markets unlocked by agents (sorry to be demanding).

There are some special camera options that you don't normally have access to. Iirc, they were a little experimental and allow you to confuse the hell out of yourself if you don't know what you're doing, which is why they weren't made available.

Then *perhaps* its a load of tosh or *perhaps* it got dropped before reaching you. I aint gonna start flaming as I have no invested interest, I am just aware of a group of people who made trips overseas to various offices and yet their idea was not taken up. Now a few months later this EVE-O magazine has taken off and is due for publication. Now they are planning a Project Entrophia based magazine.
I do know that a few of them joined Eve mainly in order to get experiance so that they could judge what quality submitted articles were, I am also in touch with people who were contacted to write articles and who made a start on them before word was reached that CCP would not be backing them and would be sponsoring their own magazine.
I will not post their IG or RL names here ofcourse but I can evemail if you care to know? Having reread my post im not afraid to say that it was fairly pointless but then so are late lunches and im having one of them as well. Apologies if it was inappropriate but now my curiousity is rising....your saying that you have never heard of any mention of a Eve Magazine outside of Eve-O in the last year? Fair enough seems strange though given that I to was asked to write an article which I declined feeling that anything I submitted would be plagirised (sp) from the many guides freely available (TheWeasel's for one). The only thing that I suggested would be interesting would be a sequential piece covering the history of things like the GNW, again something which i wasn't around for, I think thats a suitable response?

Tbh this is something that would be fun to have a mess about with on SiSi. When I do the occasional Non-UI video to post on the forums a fair bit of the footage that's not able to be captured during PvP on TQ, and environment shots come from there.
Damn good trailer though, was forced to watch it again (without the crotch/leg burns) this afternoon before i logged in

Might be nice to be able to request a movie makers patch (toolkit) for those of us purely interesting in making extremely nice video's of EVE. Then again, almost as good for movie making and much better all the way around, will be if we get the "record to client" option discussed on the Eve wishlist (whatever it is called). Being able to replay and view a battle from any angle with control over whether the overview was showing or not would be a godsend.

Because the forum censor is from the 1970's. It doesn't know that c.racking is a full word and hence forth different from the ilegal substance c.rack.
Then again, if I wanted to say 'There is a c.rack in my wall.' here that would get censored too even though it is a different use of the word all together. (Please fix the word censor guys. It should not errase parts of a word.)
Back on track, I also aggree that the tempest shot lacked a broadside view. wassupwithat? ------

it just hit me how cool it would be to have an auto button for gang leader, that would do automatic "look at" of each gang members, kind of like a visual confirmation, maybe with some kind of animation and flashing...
would be cool to have in gang tags... and if leader or other sub commanders callout, everyone sees in gang that person with some kind of visual cue so to speak, this is for friendly not the tag option.
also if a gang member is not in approach range but in warp range. The gang leader or other appointed member would get some kind of flash/animation, with like arrow/line being drawn on the tactical view relative to the cueing personĘs ship, of course cycling through each person and not all at once, this would help so much to have a "sense" of were the members are at in real time for strategic purposes. Visual cues are at times much better then voice confirmations, spending time on TS I know how bad it can be, with something like this its far more efficient.

This one will go down as a classic. Not because of its 'story' - it isn't any - but for a beautiful, evocative, and dramatic presentation done with a better eye for angle and flow than any video I've seen in a long, long time.
Highly recommended! Certainly made me thing, 'crap I've missed out on a lot in this game!'.
I think, putting it in full in a theater before a cinema release sci-fi movie would recruit quite a lot of subscribers, but it's almost 6 minutes, the cost would be ruinous.

I just posted about how this trailer, great as it is, is misrepresenting Eve gameplay. And I mean in the way that it's claiming to be actual gameplay, as though it were what the player would experience, when it's actually not at all, since it's had all sorts of special effects and modifications done to it. It's confusing... may confuse new customers and I don't think that's a great idea... just a minor issue really but it irks me somewhat. I mean I'm sure you all know what it's like when you see a trailer for a film thinking "wow that looks amazing" and then going to watch it only to find that it's nowhere near as good as it looked in the trailer. Especially a trailer is supposed to be an unedited, fair demonstration and representation of the actual product.
Then I get accused of looking for stuff to pick on, and just generally being a ***** whose only goal is to whine. So you know what forget it, I'm not going to bother with this anymore. Hooray for the Eve community, bunch of overdefensive oversupportive sour icebergs. I mean really, oh wah wah someone is making a comment about the beloved CCP let's lynch him. So childish, and it's a wonder any suggestions ever get through at all when any criticism get's you dogpiled by a bunch of ignorant thugs who don't even properly understand what you're trying to put accross, but don't care anyway because they've got nothing better to do than grief people who're just trying to help.
The video is great, I love it. I've watched it god knows how many times now. Shame the clientele of the forums aren't as jawdroppingly awesome though. It's a wonder that there are even a few decent people here given the number of exasperating morons chasing off anyone bold enough to share their opinions and suggestions.
Good luck to you Eve community. And thank freaking god you're not as annoying in game.

The video and music are really good. They are not something that should be sent off to magazines or shown in mass media. Why? Because the video is nothing more than a bunch of cool looking images thrown together. In order for something to really work on those who don't play Eve, everything has to be explained. Things that would make no sense to someone not fimilar to Eve: 1) The ships and thier names in the middle of the video. 2) They wouldn't understand the races at the end were indeed the races of Eve. 3) The moving of game windows at the end mean nothing.
I know people will flame me to death for this. If you just step back and view the video objectivly instead of as a Eve player it will become clear that while the video is great to an Eve player, it wouldn't have the same effect at the non eve game player.

The music, graphics and presentation alone,(aside from actual content), would cause enough folks to at least give it a go. The obvious fact from that Vid that there was alot of content would have intrigued me too.

Yesterday I showed this video to a good friend of mine, who not only is a television producer AND edits for a LIVING, he is completely clueless when it comes to the MMO genre, and that includes EVE.
HE WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY.
He asked first if this was a professional commercial for the game. I explained that it was 'semi-pro' as the creator was assisted by CCP with camera 'unlocks' to get a few shots, but also explained that the creator is a gamer who plays. His only technical question was this: "Does it really look that good in game?", to which I replied, "other than a few camera pan moves which are locked out due to potential player confusion, the graphics are in-game." He whistled.
No confusion, no "huh?", just amazement.
Showed him a couple others...the Seleene recruiting vid got thumbs up........but Meridius's Vanguard was the two thumbs up enthusiastically from an editing perspective. ---so Meridius, you have a real hollywood editor pattin' you on the back. ;)
