CNN's reporting on this is confused, but they're now stating that the suspects involved in the death of the MIT officer ARE believed to be the bombing suspects. One suspect is reported as dead, the other on the run. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

News here is saying there is a far left / radical aspect.
Not sure how accurate that is, but apparently there are "names" floating around for the photos, one of which is a far left wing activist supposedly.
Honestly, the biggest headache in current media and modern super connected society means crap like this starts flying. Stories, left right and centre with very little credibility, picked up and reported as fact.

And the ugly face of knee jerk / high demand journalism rears its head yet again.
Shame really. There really should be a gag order until a full investigation can be revealed. A free press is great, but being reckless in reporting that could turn violent is stupid. Same thing with suspected sex offenders, innocent til proven guilty doesnt seem to meet much anymore if theres a good scoop in it.
Its interesting, im reading a variety of online sources and some are saying the two involved "are" and "are not" involved. Not sure about the time delay between these stories though or if they have been updated.
Edit
Rumours of the two being Chechens now. No idea on the validity of these claims though. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

I like the UK model - but that also gimps the ability to use the media as a social tool in aid of law enforcement. There's a balance to be struck somewhere, I'm sure.

Hmm. Seems NBC said the suspects have received military training but no source on where / why. So im taking that with a grain of salt.
Though the WHDH live feed is good as its local people talking on real events than trying to look at a "bigger picture" which right now is just the talking heads talking about nothing so it seems. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

Yeah WHDH just reported that.
You know this doesnt make sense to me.
You have 2 men, they set off bombs. Then they go and rob a store last night and brag about the bombings supposedly openly?
Sorry, but living in the middle east, you learn a fair bit around the motives / tactics of terrorism and this doesnt fit the mould. Even if they are two idiots warped by ideology... this doesnt fit my experience with these kinds of people. They tend to bomb, and get the hell out of town or seek martyrdom as bloodily as possible.
Something doesnt smell right if you ask me. Granted I wasnt in counter terror or intelligence, I was in the armour but we still had to sit through the basic class and this is just... weird. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

I guess. But they seem to have turned awfully suicidal. Why set off remote bombs or bombs on a timer, then do dumbass stuff they did last night? You're probably right. If the ages are correct, they're two boys whose heads have been filled with glory and other crap like that and believe their own immortality.
Just different to the style I'm used to facing here.

Yeah but psychology is important in these kinds of situation. Granted, being totally loopey could well be plausable. Just in my experience they tend to be highly rational. Then again they could be brainwashed morons.
The postmortem intelligence gathering from their hard drives will reveal a window on that.
I do hope they catch the other one alive though. My money though is on these two being lone wolves. I doubt they're linked to Chechnya or the groups there.
But none of us here are in possession of the facts, so who knows.
I just realised being a civilian sucks... I miss my military connections when stuff like this happened here... the disconnect is disturbing.

That does sound likely if they are acting independently with no help from outside sources. They wont have planned ahead and are panicked. They probably thought they were geniuses, and thought that the USA was a soft target like a lot of these groups think.... right until your door is kicked in. Which is why I maintain contact with my buds still in uniform. There's less they can tell me than we used to know, but they still have insights they can legally share. Not the same as sourced news, but second-hand analysis from informed sources still matters.

Oh same.
Just its annoying. I have no doubt that folks here have no more intel than say the British or the Canadians, who undoubtedly been putting their earth to the ground to try find out anything. What I find odd is that 4chan had it nailed in the first few hours. Seriously I was on the threads and it was picked apart thoroughly, and that's one of the guys identified.
Now I get to watch as the conspiracy theorists who were analyzing this one in real time, get it right and see the law enforcement follow it. If they realize that if this happened a week ago, they would be finding every excuse under the sun why it couldn't be them.

If true, this is looking more like Columbine with more explosives :/ Heads full of worms, aye. I'll never get that kind of thinking. No one will be my friends so i will kill everyone! Kind of self defeating. Have been listening to BBC World News Hour on the way to work this AM. They spoke with the boys' uncle, who characterized the older suspect as a 'loser' - a dropout who was doing a whole lot of not much, despite having much potential. BBC's Russia Desk has spoken with the boy's father, who seems to have a lot of difficulty connecting teh younger boy to events in his mind. Apparently the younger brother was expected to be a real star. Both boys were into martial arts; wrestling and some form of Asian martial art. The younger is reported to have had a scholarship in wrestling.
Other stories on the BBC include one about the man seen being hustled off in a wheelchair, both legs with rough dressings on; He lost both legs, but when he woke after surgery, he managed to request a pen and paper, wrote out an accurate description of one of the suspects. This was before the pictures had been released - and handed the description off to an FBI agent.
Increasingly, the 'Columbine' angle seems to be accurate. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Indeed, it takes some pretty smart people to make 4chan the festering cesspit that it is; That kind of villainy takes brains.
By the way; that leads credence to the concept of 'betting pools on terror' that the previous Administration had attempted to set up - a community is smarter than it realizes, and given a venue like a betting pool, will assess the odds quite accurately. A similar process is used in search and rescue efforts, and works quite well. The concept was ridiculed out of operation last time, but I'm willing to bet it rises again (and that no credit will be given to the previous admin for having tried it).
