Forgive me, but I just can't find any official news topic or post from a CCP representative giving an update status about the CTD issue that's been going on since Sunday.
Can we get an update please? What you guys have found out, what you're doing to fix the issue, etc.?
(If the CCP has made an official statement on this, could I get a link, after which I'll gladly delete this thread)
Thanks. ____________________________________________ 87.3% of all statistics are made up on the spot

It seems to be an internet issue. I'm getting intermittant lag and connection drops whenever I try to use a european server...
It's highly localized, I've got corp mates in the UK and Oregon who aren't haven problems. But I know of 2 of us in Lousiana who can't stay online more than 5 min. (1 DSL and 1 cable connection)

It seems very odd to blame this on the internet when my alt (on the same PC, using the same connection) does not get disconnected, and when I switch installations/users over, it still isn't disconnected - when my main char is.

Still haven't been able to find any official news item, post, or topic that explains the current server connectivity issues.

It is a cluster issue... I've been seeing so many posts now about people who have issues only with char X and not with others. Problems seem to mainly show up when viewing things like global assets and or corp hanger... (anything comming from the backend)
The ping times look pretty good, not that this means that there are no issues on that part but that seems to mainly be america's as stated before europe seems largly unaffected.
I just hope that CCP will notice this as well at some point in time as from the comments I did see from the devs they seem to want to pin this on their backbone providers or their partners instead of the cluster it self.

I have been getting disconnects every 5-10 minutes since Sunday. This will go on for hours, then I'll be fine for an hour.
It's not my connection. I am on a 1.2mb/sec dsl line.
But tonight I've been on for a whole hour with no disconnects.

No, it's not your connection. The trouble is, it's not CCP's connection either. It's somewhere in the middle.
If you drive to work and an accident on I-12 means you're three hours late, it isn't your fault. But it sure as hell isn't the office's fault.

there is a broken ping connection somewhere between youre internet connection and CCPs connection - seems ot have been traced to iceland telecom - probably a broken cable or something

There is always someone there.
Has to be. A company buying hardware upgrades that expensive and raking in this much money from an MMO simply won't leave the office and the servers (remote control if not physically) alone. ____________________________________________ 87.3% of all statistics are made up on the spot

Can you not read?, there are people who have one character fine and another not able to connect, that dosn't look like an Internet problem.
Also there are people using the same ISP in the same area with one suffering drops and one not.
Combine this with
Originally by: Oveur .... we upgraded software to our loadbalancers today. We are adding servers to MyEVE which required a softwared update on them, but we find it strange that they can cause disconnects only in some cases since you would assume that it would be happening to almost everyone!
And it looks like a cluster problem

Agreed. Sorry, but this is far beyond a joke now. We've been unable to play for three and a half days. All we are asking for is news about why.

So....uh....I'm sure people are in the office now.
Can you illustrious, golden-border people of the land of ice shed some light on the CTD issue?
Please?
With sugar on top?
Perhaps a cherry?

It's entirely possible for this to happen, due to the internet being packet switched, not circuit switched. In laymans terms, it's the difference between sending things in lots and lots of letters, or in a phone conversation. With the phone conversation, you have a dedicated voice line between you and the recipient that doesn't change. Either everything you send down gets through, or nothing does.
The internet doesn't work like that. It's more like sending lots of letters through the post, with the routers being postmen/sorting offices/etc. Although all the letters start off at the same point, it's possible for the letters to go via different routes to their destination, or get misdirected and sent somewhere completely wrong. If you have 2 people sending letters, it's entirely possible that a block of letters from one person gets lost, but they are delivered fine for the other person, especially when you consider they're not sending these letters in sync, so would be posting into different post collections.
I'm sure the technical sticklers are going to savage such a crude analogy, but it is entirely possible for internet trouble to drop one client and not the other.
You can do anything. But you can't do everything. |

I have 3 accounts and I keep getting CTD's and huge lag spikes on all three accounts.
However i am also having these huge lag spikes when trying to connect to these forums but I have a very fast connection to everything non ccp related. So it is most likely something CCP end.

Its a connection problem with a Hub in Iceland, do a tracert, those with problems ALL have 1 single hub listed 2 or so hops before the sinal reaches CCP, the people without problems will see their tracert taking a diffrent route. ------------------

Okay, firstly the character issue sounds unrelated.
Second, the ISP issue sounds like a L3 provider issue. And y'know, there are L3's having spats RIGHT NOW.
