Prices on certain highly in-demand items are becoming borderline retarded. 120-130 million for a heavy assault springs to mind. It's high time something is done to break the monopolies enjoyed for far too long by those who own these blueprints.
Oh and save the "if it's too expensive, don't buy it" line.

Its much easier to just release the BPOs to agents.
There's no "monopoly", just not enough supply for the insane demand.
NAGA, for example, sells Ishtars for 65m each. There's a 8 month waiting list because so many people want an Ishtar. - Proud member of the [23].

Yes release the bpos to agents so some guy can randomly get billions apon billions of isk with no effort at all. Great idea!
CCP needs to auction a lot of HAC bpos or do something to bring there price down. It's retarded. ________________________________________________________

auctioning them isn't really the way to break a monopoly, as the monopolist has tonnes of ISK to spend on the BPO

I do agree that they need to be auctioned, but perhaps for different reasons for Mr Shogaatsu, whose motives I can't quite workout, they seem selfless but then I remind myself who we're talking to here

I don't really care if they get auctioned or not, but something should be done about the rarity of bpos.
It's um, absurd.
Why should the lottery make people 20 billion for zero effort ? Some of us have actually earned our multiple billion fortunes, not just, start a project, train a couple of skills, wait 5 months, get 20 billion isk.
Also 130 million for a ship that costs 30 mil to make is silly, as is 15 million for a cap rech II that costs what 150k isk to make ?
Why don't the NPCs release more copies ? Why don't they sell them themselves ? The lottery is total garbage, pls do something about it before 2007. Kthx.

Erm why reward the already stupidly rich ppl (usually those already with the t2 bpo) by letting them buy out anyone in auction and thus doubling their production capabilities. yeah they'll prob drop price by a percentage but they'll still be the winners and you'll still have to wait ages and you'll still get ripped off.
Unless of course you want them to release 100's in which case the whole economy will go into chaos, then meltdown, then over supply etc etc.
Sorry mate but I disagree with your idea in every sense

Except for the fact that CCP is trying to make the EVE market REAListic. Which means REAL life examples for comparison regarding the market are spot on. I'm not saying the lottery or the auction ideas are good or bad. But Shikari's example is a perfect one.

i'm suggesting that people drop the attitude that they need to have the biggest most expensive technologically advanced ship to be competitive in PvP or elsewhere. it's this attitude that is in great part responsible for the silly high price of HAC's. it's possible for t2 ships to drop in price and be quite affordable, like the Cheetah which now sells for 5.5 million, so long as people don't treat it as the be-all and end-all.

Yes my opinion counts for more.
However, nobody said only the rich should get good BPOs.
What I'm saying is the reward should be proportional to the effort/work put in.
F.i. NPC hunt for a while and you make billions, mine for a while and same, buy t1 bpos from NPCs, research them, buy and mine minerals, build stuff, sell stuff, basically spend tons of time doing industry stuff and make billions.
Or you can just train a couple of skills, do a few agent missions, start a research project, forget about it, log on once a week to check for an evemail. Make 800x as much as using any other method of getting rich for a fraction of the effort.
Or am I insane and this is perfectly acceptable and desirable?

Not a bad idea, but it should not involve grinding. It should involve actual, interesting work. One should not be required to ***** agent missions, for example.

Thats like saying you can make far more by buying lottery tickets than by investing in mutual funds. The odds are extremely low for getting a really good BPO. However, the difference is here, the cost of the tickets is the time spent training the skills and getting up standing with an R&D corp.
I'd support an effort-based R&D system, but only if it doesn't involve grinding. - Proud member of the [23].

T2 ships become cheap when they suck. The Harpy is far better than the hawk, and thus sells for 3-4 times more.
Compare Eagle to Deimos.
People don't have the attitude that they "need" HACs--many cruisers can perform the same role. However, they are fun to fly. And some people think fun is the most important thing in EVE.
they are not the only fun ship to fly. a t1 frig can be fun also, depending on how it's used, and irrespective of others feeling they're not because frigs "suck".

I don’t think you’ve thought this through beyond the visceral “I want” reaction. If HACs and T2 ships in general became cheap, everyday PVP ships then they’d just become a bar to entry before someone could compete. Eve would begin to take on characteristics of a retarded treadmill game where you have to train/grind for a considerable amount of time then go PVP. Also it’d be then end of a much needed isk drain on the economy.
That said the BPO lottery is just about the worst way imaginable to distribute this stuff. There should've been initial auctions so those who've truely worked for thier position could enjoy the rewards. But what's done is done.

Doris Dents,
fact remains that, for example, the HAC supply remains very low (and the number of accounts has climbed over 50% while the supply has NOT) - if all 20 BPO's of a HAC are constantly in production, you get 4 a week from each - 80 HAC's a week. 80 for 75,000 players (And there WON'T be 80 either - disruptions to production and non-producing BPO's).
The cap recharger II situation, well, it sucks but it's not quite the same since production is ample.

To be fair, I think half the problem is that the HAC's are the only T2 combat cruiser released so far. when some more T2 options come out I doubt demand will be quite as high. Also with the upcoming missiles changes I think the Caldari ones will be a more attractive option and so the popular ones (Zealot, Ishtar, Deimos) wont have quite so much demand.
If after those 2 things have happened the demand vs supply is still as bad then think about added a few more BPO's.

Well i must say you have hit the nail right on the head here.
one way to fix this is if say cerubuses are low in supply get ccp to drop the occasion bpc 1 run in high end rat loot that way the demand for that ship is lower.
And when the supplie reaches a certain level stop droping the bpc's.

For the love of god:
Make BPOs 'decay' after a certain period of time, and get re-seeded into the agents, and make it so it's actually worth it to make copies.
If it wasn't for the utterly horrible copy problem, people would probably be selling both t2 items and t2 bpcs.
But the current setup IS FUBAR. If someone gets a t2 BPO they are set, period. Even the '****ty' t2 BPOs are worth a ton.
People who get things like t2 cap/bcu/rail/etc BPOs pretty much 'win' EVE. I can't imagine how stupidly rich the person who gets the first cargo expander t2 BPO is going to become... ------------------------------------ Your Civilian Gatling Railgun perfectly strikes Choke Slam [CAIN], wrecking for 6.0 damage. |

How about reducing HAC build times?
It strikes me that it is not their cost that is the problem, but their availability. Anyone with the skills to fly a HAC, and the need, is very likely to have the ISK. The problem is, the manufacturers can't keep up with the rate at which they are being destroyed.

auctioning them wont work as that will only tightne up the monoply so that only those with a hell of a lot of isk will be able to afford them.
simple answer would be to add more BPO into the lottery..double or treble the current amount. half production time..then the supply can be met. _____

Prices eventually came down, the opposite seems to be happening in eve. Zealots used to be like 75-80m, now they're 130m. It sucks ________________________________________________________

Why not have BPC's be buyabe from research agents for RP's instead of optioning for the lotto. Cash in 5000 RP's for a HAC BPC or something. Could get way more of those ships out there without devasting the market for those with the BPO's but bring the overall value down of the ship down somewhat.

My solution would be to give Wanoah all the T2 BPOs. That'd work pretty well.
The bottom line is that supply needs to improve on HACs, especially when you consider the build times. Eventually, they will not be even used for PvP purely because it takes so long to get one replaced.

The problem with cap rechargers II is that the entire market for them is monopolized. By people who were smart when tech II bpo's were sold for a couple of hunder mil instead of the billions they go for now.
The problem with hacs is that a lot of what Naga or any of the other organized manufacturers sell for 'decent' prices, is bought by resellers. That promptly put them back on the market with a big profit margin. People will by at those prices, but at the same time that makes the waiting time for 'cheap' hacs a lot longer.
I agree that the lottery needs to be fixed, personally I don't think BPO auctions are the answer. But to blame the lottery for the high prices of hacs and cap recharger II's, is incorrect. It's not just the lottery, it's players who were/are inventive enough to find ways to make a profit that are just as much responsible for those high prices.
BPO auctions won't change a thing about that. Say CCP puts a vagabond BPO up for auction. It won't go for less than 20 billion, and whoever wins the auction, is not going to sell the ship for 40 mil. Same goes for BPC's. If you get your hands on a cap recharger II bpc, you're not going to sell the module for less than current market price. No, you're going to sell for what people will pay for it, and history has shown that that is current market price.
I wish CCP the best of luck in coming up with a system to distribute tech II bpo's, without making it any worse than the lottery...

I am fine with the lottery system... as long as bpo's keep getting seeded, this unfortunatly is not that case. For the people who have been using real life examples, look at how technology works in real life. A company comes out with some brand new technology, and its cool and unique, everyone buys their stuff because its superior, their competitors see this technology, and realize they can do the same thing, maybe with different features or whatever. After a while, this new technology is more widespread and much cheaper, and as time goes on it becomes even less expensive. I do not see how an agent magically stops being able to discover a tech 2 item type bpo after a certain number have been released... it makes no sense whatsoever. As time goes on more and more should be released. By now there should be triple the amount of hac bpos, and interceptor bpos should be a little bit uncommon.

fact remains that, for example, the HAC supply remains very low (and the number of accounts has climbed over 50% while the supply has NOT) - if all 20 BPO's of a HAC are constantly in production, you get 4 a week from each - 80 HAC's a week. 80 for 75,000 players (And there WON'T be 80 either - disruptions to production and non-producing BPO's).
The cap recharger II situation, well, it sucks but it's not quite the same since production is ample.
THE NAIL. HIT. ON THE HEAD.
Now, stick THIS^ in your cr@ck pipe, CCP, and smoke it!
Release more BPOs, darn it! The current situation is ridiculous! The T2 market should be way more dynamic than that! 1 HAC per 1k of accounts per week is a laughable number!!!

research should fall somewhere in the lines of agent LP's, that way after an excrutiating long time building up RP's you know how far off you are, incentive to actually do the daily crap missions, this would balance out distribution as well, both the rich and poor could put in equal effort since it still isnt about money but effort and focus, i.e. research project management, working up standings, doing missions to speed up the RP. get bpc's for lower rp points get bpo's for higher rp points
sick of the price of t2 component or ships? bust your butt and crank out missions and standings, get yourself a better agent.
if they put in the effort they make out, if they dont they have no reason to complain. ___________________________ http://carttune.com/lord_small_alli.jpg Aegis Militia Conclave official representative C.E.O. of SHOD

I wouldn't say cap rech II are monopolized all that much, it's just that there's too much demand for people to have any reason to charge less.
I.e. too few bpos.

There simply is no clear solution to this problem. Since the real problem are the blueprint originals themselves.
Once a person has one, either by being simply lucky in the lottery or very rich and buying one, he has it for ever. CCP has only tools to increase the number of productionable items in the game, not to decrease it.
Also because of how blueprints are obtained, the whole industry is dominated by individuals rarely spreading the wealth over a whole corporation.
Besides: the devastating results of a theft/loss combined with lack of security tools or repercussions means that high profit production (and the reaping of the profits) is often restricted to top level members or individuals anyway and they take almost no risk with it.
All blueprints should be turned into licensed runs.
Ofcourse the people that have paid billions for their blueprints will threaten to quit over such a move (well many more will, but without such a good reason). So CCP should give these copies enough runs so the owners can make their investment back using normal marketprices for the blueprint and the ships.
After that CCP could then start seeding the limited run copies on the market by agent missions, research projects (demanding investment in both time and money), event awards, pirate drops, complex bosses, whatever.
Since the impact will never be the same as a bpo, also because they won't last forever, CCP has much more room to play with.
These runs can then be researched, reducing production time and mineral cost, which will revitalise the research industry since they always be in demand, and it will be less of a risk to hire outside researchers.
Perhaps research could be allowed to split up licenses over multiple blueprints so manufacturers could increase production or take some risks and send a few licenses to 0.0.
In the end I think producers will reap the benefits of it. More areas of T1 production will again be profitable because of licenses decreasing on the flooded market. Yes more people will be able to get their hands on copies and start producing, but I think, since it requires investment of time and money to get them, I doubt many people will bother with actually starting to produce items from them, unless they are serious into production.
A production company then would no longer be able to flash a few times with a big wallet and after that dominate the industry with little effort from there one other then buying minerals and components.
They would also have to either keep buying licences from the market, or have a division dedicated to obtaining new ones. Lets hope this will make some of the wealth trickle to some of the worker bees.
It's just an idea. Not perfect, but still better then the alternatives like and open auction or lottery.

making the copy time of bpo's faster would sure help things out quite a dam bit. atm its a bit lame how long it takes to make a duplicate of an original.
on that note we have had tech II into the stream of market for some time and after over a year the rarity of obtaining those items and bpo's is still ridiculous
at this rate of inflation and tipped scale of supply/demand

Everyone knows the current situation is terrible. There are weekly threads discussing the supply problem.
The Developers do not comment on it, because they know that the current process is poorly implemented (except for those of you that "win" the lottery). There is no adequate reason for the supply of bp's to be so constrained.
The only reason I can think of is that CCP is so gun shy after totally screwing up the bp copy process at the premature release of the game that they are unable to take any chances on the economy or whatever this is supposed to be.

IMO, the best solution is to eliminate the lottery and replace it with something akin to the LP rewards we have with normal agents.
Say like, 150K RP and 500m isk for a HAC BPO? Also, at really low RP levels you could cash in for say...10K RP and 20m isk to get a 1 run HAC BPC. Even a level 4 agent would need almost a month to get enough RP for that 1 run BPC.
This eliminates the uselessness of the lotto, providing a more even ability for anyone to gain access to T2 BPs of both types, and helps to alleviate the supply problem. All it costs is a LOT of time, and a fair amount of isk. Perhaps the R&D missions can be revamped slightly to be more interesting too, and instead of just doubling the daily RP, grant RP rewards deepending on the mission difficulty...much like LP is now, yet still keep them restricted to 1 mission a day.

Nothing that requires skill. There are tons of people who don't do any missions and just check there accounts while the RP keeps building up. You also have people who win multi-billion isk bpos with barely any RP at all. Yeah, great system ________________________________________________________

I like your idea in theory but of course the cost will need to be higher for example.
1 mil RP and 900mil isk for a H.A.C./cap recharger 2 bpo
The best solution will be the one that anyone can do even a newbie like me can work for it in the beginning doing reserch missions like hauling reserch supplies or for big RP gain get told that a rare form of omber was detected deep in 0.0 you need to go to the bookmark and mine 100 units of this special rare omber that is spawned when you enter the system you are told to go to then you must return with the omber to complete the mission.
Basically make the missions interesting and boring [hauling missions] With the occasional hard one.

A year ago I started playin eve. Love it.
A year ago the max number of players I figured I'd ever see online was around 8k.
Now there are regularly nearly twice that many online.
My guess would be that the total player count in Eve has doubled.. if not tripled.. in the last year.
Three times as many people require three times as many ships. Supply and demand does play a role.. but when its a G A M E that we're playing, the supply should be available. If that means more BPO's... like two or three times as many.. then so be it.
As for the 'monopoly' aspect.. those who call it that are absouletly correct. It takes major isk to get your hands on a truly profitable print.. and the ONLY people who have that kind of isk are those who can make as much as 500% profit from building things.. guess who -
I'd say the only way to make it so the newer - or even the established - industrial corporations in the universe.. can get into T2 production - is to limit the number of T2 prints that any corp can hold. I'd say ONE. I'd also say that any alliance could hold no more than one for every three corps within it.
But hey.. I'm just thinking about 'fair' here.
And dont give me the 'but would it be fair for those corps who already have more than one T2 print to have to give them up?'
Yes.. it would be.

Don't know how you mean that. Not a single isk leaves the economy by paying 140 mil isk to another player. So it's not an isk sink. The player who gets the 140 mil isk spends it somewhere else after that.
ISK flow into the game by mission rewards, bounties, sales to npcs, insurance payouts etc. and leave the game by station fees, market fees, insurance contract payments, buys from npc market and some more. Without that the total amount of isk would stay the same and isk would only change the owner.

No... no no, don't start AUCTIONING T2 BPs. Every single auction would be won by the very same corps that have them now and are making more money that they can *throw* away. They would just snap up every offered BPO and keep doing what they've been doing all along.
Just increase the release rate of high demand (i.e. stupidly expensive) T2 BPOs. CCP should look at their market more closely and see what T2 items are being abused rediculously and release BPOs accordingly, not release them by open auction to the filthiest rich.

Afaik, CCPs plan was to auction one T2 BPO of each (!) T2 item per month. The price for most t2 items would go down, that's for sure. E.g. nobody could afford to win a cap-recharger-2 bpo in an auction every month. If you own that BPO, you want to make money with it and as long as the price of the CPR-2 stays the same, the BPO for it won't get much cheaper in the auction. If you want to buy them all, you would have to spend many billions of isk each month without an end in sight.

Drop a few more of all BPO's into agents. Supply was fine when there were less players playing, but more an more people are playing, and working into HAC's.
Also, and I'm sure people will hate it, add some BPC's to either agent offers for a ton of LP's.
Or, make RP's able to be cashed out for BPC's, kinda like the LP system works. So you can continue to save RP's, or maybe get a offer for a small run tech 2 BPC you want, and cash out. Nice thing about this, is research system cannot be farmed, you cannot get more RP's than your total + mission bonus. So you cannot flood the market.

Why am I seeing lots of people still not getting that the auction system would be the fairest system?:|
You put in the effort, you get the reward. None of that 'lucky-me' **** that comes with the lottery system.
Oh and for all those that DON'T know, it'd be a monthly auction, minimum bid would be 5 billion and buyout 50 billion (according to the drawingboard). That means that all those big scary T2 monopolies wouldn't be able to buy the bpos month after month because there simply isn't that much money lying around in EVE (for just one corporation/alliance).
Example:
T2 monopoly can put together about 30B ISK rather easily and they do so the first month buying the zealot bpo. They now earn a lot more because of the market prices (unless they're NAGA in which case they'll earn a lot less). It will take them more than a month however to get back all that ISK so the next month they can't bid for the zealot bpo because they used nearly all the money they had. Someone else will get it.
That's the whole idea behind a monthly t2 bpo auction.

t2 BPCs available through research agents not via Loyalty points - that keeps the research arm of skills and career in place but 1-2 runs of all BPCs will mean that if someone with a BPO leaves the game that BPO t2 isnt lost forever that is the biggest reason for scarcity in some areas of the game - t2 BPC 1-5 run drops would seed a lot more players with that production potential and open up some competition - even those drops could be kept to a moderate level to keep the scaricity of t2 versus t1 in check

"Not really?" Ugh, why not? Check my post and what the OP and the rest of the thread were griping about. My idea for "limited run BPC for LP's" wasn't about helping establish a point to "the research "career" path."
It was about an immediate increase in the availability of HAC's by the means easiest to implement from a Dev POV - which is what would definitely happen, if it were implemented.
If the Dev's are so reluctant to release more BPO's until the whole system is overhauled, then this, imho, is the way to go for now to help alleviate the supply vs demand problem.

So long as the auctions rely on RP's I do not see a problem.
If I want to bid 380k Research Points in Caldari Starship Engineering for a HAC BPO, then it is up to someone with more research Points to outbid me. If however we are talking about bidding with ISK, I just dont like it.
Unfortunately there are ways of getting ISK from outside of the game, while ever this is possible it then becomes possible for the person who has $$$' s in RL to buy these BPO's. This cannot be fair.

Auctions using ISK as the currency would be a huge mistake, it would compound the monopolistic nature of the T2 market.
CCP needs to remove the lottery, and introduce an RP system similar to the LP system.
Your agent lists all the T2 BPO's he can supply, there is an RP cost associated with those BPO's.
Once you have the required number of RP's, you can put your name on a waiting list for that BPO. Next time the BPO is seeded, the agent hands them out by going right down the "seniority" list.
It should also be possible to have a corp RP account, so ppl's RP's go into this account, and the corp gets their name on the BPO waiting list.
It should be a first come first serve system, the more work you put in, the faster you can get RP's, the better chance you have of getting a BPO.
Luck or amount of ISK in your wallet should play no part in obtaining these BPO's, those are flawed methods of BPO acquisition. It should be based solely on hard work and collaboration between corp Research Agent runners.

bhall good ideas all round but lets keep the BPO seeding the same - very rare and rewards but ....
a BPC system with smaller amounts of RPs - a fixed price. The lottery would be the timing of outputs of BPCs 1-10 run in nature. And also similar to LPs a sliding scale of RPs for t2 BPC runs being realised to many many more players - players would then be faced hold onto RP for the t2 BPO lottery or take a small run BPC for x amount of RPs and produce what u get and try to make a profit on market - would creat a little bit more supply and a wider source of supplies (could also give research agents in low sec outer regions and seed the low sec markets as well)

I'm not suggesting CCP change the ammount of BPO's released. You could very well be on the list for a BPO, but you could be number 50 on that list. Agents (CCP) would need to inform players where they stand on this list, but not make it public knowledge.
If a BPO is seeded, and you don't get one, the agents start handing out max run BPC's, and offer them to ppl on the list for a fraction of the RP's, right one down the line, all the way down to 1 run BPC's...
If you know you're next on the list for a BPO, and CCP informs you they will only re-seed if an in game BPO is lost, or is inactive, you can choose to wait it out, or put your RP's on some other list...
They need to take luck and ISK (eBay) out of the T2 BPO system.

My 2 ISK
So you think there's someone out there willing to pay roughly 5800 dollars for a 20b t2 bpo? Wow... some people truly are stupid.

The BPO should still come from agents and not be bought. However it should require a lot more effort than it does at present.
Suggetions include.
1) Only being entered into the lottery if youve done a mission in the week ( a little like LP offers) 2) Only accumulating RP from actually doing missions. 3) Some involvemnt from the new mini professions that are in the infancy.

I have no knowledge of what 20b ISK equates to in real life, nor do I wish to know. All i am saying is that it is a possibility and as such would be unfair. 5800 dollars may be a lot to you and me but if that T2 BPO is capable of making the buyer 1 Billion + per week/month.......doesn't that then become worthwhile, especially if they are also in the market of selling ISK as well as buying?
Stupidity doesn't really come in to it.

There is no need for complex and potentially flawed systems of wealth redistribution. The build times just need to be halved, to keep up with the rate at which HACs are destroyed. This will stabilise supply and prices, but at a lavel high enough (tens of millions of ISK) to ensure their elite status.

Afaik, CCPs plan was to auction one T2 BPO of each (!) T2 item per month. The price for most t2 items would go down, that's for sure.
They would release a maximum of 12 T2 BPOs for each item (1 per monht), that is hardly a dent in the current scarcity of T2 BPs. Now, if I had a handful of HAC BPOs, do you think I would not be bending over backwards trying to buy up any newly available BPOs of my stock? Most of the corps selling these things have so much profit in them that they'll almost bankrupt themselves to prevent an increase in availability... i.e. buy up every BP offered at auction regardless of price.
Quote:
E.g. nobody could afford to win a cap-recharger-2 bpo in an auction every month.
Not if they just got that BPO a few months ago, but the ones who have had that BP since its release will have plenty of money to buy up every auction BPO of that item - why? Because they are getting profits from more than just their existing CPR2 stock.
Quote:
If you own that BPO, you want to make money with it and as long as the price of the CPR-2 stays the same, the BPO for it won't become much cheaper in the auction.
If you can outbid everyone, then the release of auctioned BPs will not affect prices in the least for the end users. And that is CCP's goal, making these mods available for most of the players, rather than just the monied few.
Quote:
If you want to buy them all, you'll have to spend many billions of isk each month without an end in sight.
Only the billions on the BPOs you want, or want to prevent becoming more available. And once you've bought the twelve monthly auctioned BPOs, well, you've got your monopoly again and can start rebuilding your profits.
