I sent CCP a petition the other day regarding graphics issues.
At the end of the petition I said "My head is off for the awesome gaming environment" but really meant to say my hat was off.

I love how CCP refuses to even acknowledge that these server issues (save for the DDoS) occur right as fleets in fountain begin forming or engaging. Is CCP not taking initiative and reinforcing nodes in fountain that have timers? Will CCP bother to even comment on how these outages are affecting the outcome of some of the largest fights the game has ever seen? Probably not and this post is probably going to be closed over. |

Bet its Single Sign Online (SSO) security configuration issues and not CCP written software directly. Ten years ago SSO was really best used inside corporate firewalls at least in the most straightforward configuration. I bet that has not really changed.
Too much brain damage to recall for sure. But I think the logon info really had to be put on its own isolate private network to avoid complications from hacking and DoS attacks.
Basically logon info is just too time sensitivity to be exposed to the real Internet and efforts to relax tight time constraints also makes you much more hackable.
So the solution is simple except for requiring painful and exhaustive configuration of a secondary network and making sure all software consistently routes to one network or the other.
But such solutions are annoyingly dirty to computer/software types such that 3-6 months can easily go by as they try every other theoretically cleaner approach. |

I'm a noob and was told that once it happened more often. A tip I got included 'always line up a very long training session before logging off, because you never know'. Its proved useful to me, when Eve is back up I have another long skill trained up and waiting for me
I'm not put off being a noob, infact there are other sites out there who have more regular downtimes than Eve, but we also have our part to play...the Denial of Service attacks are linked to a Trojan, and a lot of people rely on things like Norton. Don't, its useless, have other Trojan and Virus killers downloaded on a memory stick and run a cleaning check on your pc in safe mode while you wait for things to come back online (and its good practice anyway for any online gamer). I heard from programmers that a lot of the source of that attack was from Eve players themselves, which led me to wonder if the buggy log in screen has a back door that some **** has utilised to piggy-back a Trojan. But that's another can of worms.
In the meantime folks, please cut the Dev's some slack, I've seen the crap they have to go through and they often go without sleep for days to fix things. |
