I've thought a lot about this... and really for me it comes down to "Predator" or "Predators"... both movies were great. Dune was pretty good though too... and "Bladerunner" of course and blah blah star wars return of the jedi... meh... what's the best sci fi movie I've never seen that's better? Throw me a line EvE!

I love Starship Troopers! I find it funny that the first movie is one of the best movies I've seen and the sequels are really bad. The second movie might be one for the worst I've ever seen and the third is just bad. |

That said... my dad made me watch soilent green when I was a little kid, and to this day I tell that motherf***** he owes me 2 hours of my life. Don't waste my motherf******* time.

The original Stargate film and of course the series following on it SG1 and SGA, i dislike SGU though.
Also, Space monkeys. If a man speaks his mind in the forest and no woman hears him, is he still wrong? |

K-Pax The Man from Earth Moon Pi (1998) Star Trek - Wrath of Khan 2001 - A Space Odyssey Fifth Element Total Recall (With Arnie, the original) Alien (all of them) Dune (the special TV release, it's the original movie with a lot of added footage missing from the original - Movies never did Dune justice anyways) AI - Artificial Intelligence Bicentennial Man
The best movie here which has zero special effects but has a gripping story is 'The Man from Earth'. Do yourself a favor, watch this one.

In addition to aforementioned titles, I'd say Star Trek: The First Contact is a quite good sci-fi film, even if you are not a trekkie fan. Good action, some good humour, good actors.
My personal favourite is The Fifth Element, with Bruce Willis. That film seems ageless and is just plain fun to watch, imo. |

That's a really hard question. In a way it depends on how you define a sci-fi movie. But here's a few I like

I think Bruce Willis is better in 12 monkeys, but The Fifth Element is a good movie but a little to "pop'ish" for my taste. I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous. |

For me:
Star wars, obviously (All of them!) Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 Terminator 1 + 2 Mad Max series Serenity Avatar Cloud Atlas was awesome, love films that make you think Wrath of Khan!! Total Recall The Abyss (one of my favourates) Escape from New York Robocop Minority report Independence Day Dune Pitch Black + The Chronicles of Riddick The Fly I, Robot 12 Monkeys The Matrix series Children of Men TRON: Legacy Back to the Future series The Thing (The new one was also very good!) 2001 space odyssey (though it does go on, it is a classic!)
Other oldschool clasics that deserve a mention, Brazil, War of the Worlds, Dark Star, Planet of the Apes, Westworld, Soylent Green, solaris, Close incounters of the Third kind, Flight of the Navigator, Forbidden Planet, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Last Starfighter.
If you haven't watched any of the above, i suggest you do so, immediately.

I'd also recommend The Cell. I remember watching it recently and was very good too, though it's somewhat cheesy end. |

Have to agree on that one! Remember borrowing a VHS tape from a friend when I was younger with that movie and another called The Cat from Outer Space on it. Haven't seen the cat movie for atleast 20 years so no idea what I would think of it today, but I really liked it back then. |
