Hey guys,
So this is a pretty simple request: what makes a corp successful?
Feel free to comment in general or on the specifics like recruitment, funding, taxation, voting, organization chart, business plan, chocolate cake, etc.

Cant post much else here myself, I just moved (along with a friend and fellow instagator) 3 of my corpm8s to this new corp... my CEO was never around, so you gotta have a ceo. And a goal, or something for the TEAM to be dong is real nice. If you just have 8 individual players doing 8 sepearte things...your not much of a corp/team are you?

It's all about having fun, and to have fun you will need good teamwork. Really, it's that simple.
If this game was only played with npc I would grow tired of it in a few weeks. It's the feeling of teamwork, the feeling that you are needed. You contribute to something bigger.
Here is my top 3 things to make a corp successful.
1. Fun corpmates (online same time to be able to do stuff together) 2. Every member need to be able to contribute 3. Have a bigger goal (isk isn't enough)

Shared goals & trust are most important. If you are all pulling in different directions, then the corp will be torn.

Edited by: Antoinette Civari on 30/11/2005 15:04:24 Succesful in what way ? - To be financially succesful you need a smart CEO and a couple of dedicated pilots who are quite knowledged in marketing, politics and negotiations. - To be succesful in battle you need bascially just a lot of experience and dedication and knowledge about how to motivate and 'lead' people. - To have fun you just need TS and a couple of beers.
No matter where you are active I'd always go for a small team full of dedicated pilots who are perfectly working together. High numbers are overrated. You also need a goal and a plan how to achieve that goal - otherwise you'd run out of ideas what to do in the future, you'd start questioning your reasons to actually put work into this game and quit.

ok...teamwork... corpmates that are sympathetic (e.g. i lose my favourite ship, they pat me on the back instead of saying 'ur a ****** idiot')...and...well...when we do stuff as a corp together its cool...we have done lvl3 and 4 COSMOS missions quite a few times and that has always involved at least 4 people...(considering we are a small corp)...dealing with the 2min respawn rate of BS rats called 'red hammer'... -----------------------------------------------

Strong rules. No expeptions. Safe Hangars.
But most of all (drumrolls) Race oriented! I know this could seems a bit frustrating, but i live in a (small) Corp that allows to enter only at caldari pilots, using caldari ships, firing only with missiles or rails.
It's a pleasure to play. Never seen mates spread all around the unieverse making missions, cause we all are related to Caldari Navy agents. Never have to wait wait wait for a new ship, because we use all the same vessels, so if the chief got a raven, someone get his scorpion, someone else got the ferox of the previously scorpion user and so on. Never have to wait for modules (we all using the same). Never have to change tactics in pvp/pve : we alla have roles, that are the same. never seen some BS full of dust in someone private hangar.
Guess we'll never be so many. Guess we never change the fate of a battle. But noones gets angry, and this is a great thing in EVE.

It would really all depend on what your defenition of success is. For me it would be friends having fun, for another it would be lots'o'monies. For me, what makes a successful corp is;
1) political incorrectness and the promotion of it 2) small numbers of people make it easier to become friends with everyone 3) similar goals and routes as to accomplishing them 4) everyone speaking the same language! 5) Ventrilo or TeamSpeak or ___________ help bring a voice/humanity to the characters in the game.

Focus. Teamwork. Leadership.
You need to have an objective. Maybe more than one, but ideally a sequence leading to the final destination. You can change the destination, too, but if your corp doesn't have a place where it's going, then your corpmates will drift apart, and do their own thing, and it might as well not happen at all.
Teamwork is self explanatory. Work together to achieve the intermediate steps towards your goal. Doesn't matter too much if that's mining ops, missions, going gate ganking or wardeccing a major alliance, as long as everyone takes part in some way.
And leadership. That's the tough one. I've seen lots who don't understand it. (I'm not even entirely sure anyone does, but some are better than others)
A leader is not the person who tells everyone else what to do. A leader is the person who encourages everyone around them towards the objective. Who builds trust within the corp, and helps 'direct' the focus.

Members make corps successful. And it's quality over quantity, every time. So many people don't realise that. Same in any game. Build slowly, and build loyalty. The rest follows. _

Too me it:
Leadership is the most important one and only few i say who has got good leadership in the game. Experiance and understanding of EVE Management Humour Friends teamwork respect

May sound weird but in RL if u have these things and able to lead group people at work like i did then its easyer when u play eve as CEO if u have the experiance.

CEO's make corps successful. I don't care what anyone else says, if the CEO is able to make you feel wanted/included in the group, you can lose 100 million a day and still have fun playing.
It amazes me sometimes though, seeing some CEO's have excellent man management and motivational skills in-game and yet have crappy jobs in real life. Lots of in-game ambition, no real life ambition. Now I know there is a Psychology Dissertation in there for someone.

Exactly, I'm a director in my corp and we were very successfull, untill our CEO moved and had no more time to play and so did allmost all other directors, just me left and another one who controlles all director accounts So not much action going on. And I'm even considering moving on to another more active corp or setting up interim directors who are more active....

How do you arrange to get all the Deep Core Mining Inc. people together? :)
My take on this topic is:
Teamwork towards a common goal, with a well rounded and understanding leadership that is active. Enforceable Rules Stringent recruiting policy. Corporate Events where all can participate aka Teambuilding, not just all mining. Voice Comms, Forums = Communication Ship and Module replacement program ---
