Industrials serve a very important role in EVE Online, serving to transport goods and materials across the cluster. As part of the continuing Tiericide initiative, all Industrials will soon be rebalanced to give them specific roles. As part of this rebalancing, some of the ships will be renamed to reflect the new order.
In his first ever dev blog, CCP Rise lays out all the changes. EVE Online/DUST 514 Community Representative GÇ+ EVE Illuminati GÇ+ Fiction Adept

Thanks for listening to community concerns regarding the industrial changes. I still think the Hoarder's going to be very underused though. I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused. |

Sorry but no, you will still want to use one of the general purpose haulers for fueling. We looked at making this happen but couldn't for the time being.

So what about the special edition industrials, e.g. Iteron Mk IV Quafe Ultra Edition? Will they have their legacy names or will they all be "Miasmos Quafe Ultra Edition", "Miasmos Quafe Ultramarine Edition", etc.? And will they also be rebalanced, or will they have the legacy stats of the old Iteron Mk. IV?
I'm really just curious, since I don't use industrials. -áMy (mostly boring) Youtube channel. |

I'm still trying to persuade Rise & Co to release a specialised Badger variant called the Ratel as a Battle Badger platform:
Quote:[Ratels] are notorious for their strength, ferocity and toughness. They have been known to savagely and fearlessly attack almost any kind of animal when escape is impossible, reportedly even repelling much larger predators such as lions.Bee stings, porcupine quills, and animal bites rarely penetrate their skin. If horses, cattle, or Cape buffalos intrude upon a ratel's burrow, it will attack them. They are virtually tireless in combat and can wear out much larger animals in physical confrontations.
So far, no luck.

No, you've got a general hauler with a large cargo bay for every race.
If you want a ship with a specialised bonus you cross-train, it works the same way that if you want a bonus to ECM you need to train Caldari etc. If you want to be able to switch between different bonuses, you need to be able to fly multiple races.
I'm sure that CCP will spread any future bonused hulls around the other races, but there's no requirements for new bonuses at the moment, and no art department time to do new hull designs.

Oh do be quiet the game doesn't need 6 more indys to confuse us, and waste art dept's time. Let the devs move on to more important things. Like t2, t3, and cap rebalancing. Also keep in mind purists are NEVER EVER GOING to be equal unless all ships are the same. I could just as easily argue the Gal purists are getting the shaft as the Amarr have the Indy with the best cargo cap, and the Min have the fastest. Sure the Iteron and Iteron V have good all round stats, but very few eve players want that. Former forum cheerleader CCP, now just a hopeful small portion of the community. |

Will the 'new iterons' get new models too? They currently progressed in size of the ship and capacity quite steadily with the increasing mark. It would seem strange to me that there might be a mismatch in size / capacity after this. Perhaps the models can be made to reflect their roles. |

You guys already jacked up the Blockade Runners with a "rebalance", or whatever you want to call it, and now you are going to screw with the industrials.
Leave them alone. If you have to create a third ship. For Amarr leave the Bestower as LVL1 Industrial (give it slow and large cargo) For the Sigil have it at LVL5 industrial - good cargo, really agile, good speed, and a better chance of busting through warp jammers. For the third ship throw it in the middle.
Then for the Tier 2 ships - give them all this and something a little better.
Your rebalance idea - ooh this ship carries ammo and this one ore/minerals makes me wonder if you guys are smoking some good stuff and ain't shareing. |

CCP Rise, I'm sad to see these changes.
This was a wasted opportunity to do the correct thing and move all the industrials over to ORE and make them feel like a 5th minor race.
There is NO reason to have 6 different skills for industrial ships! (4 for each race and then the two Ore skills we have now). All you needed was the two skills we have now, the first for subcaps, and the second for caps.
You could have solved the now huge racial imbalance you've actually made worse now.
Why would anyone need to train anything other than gal indy with all those special ships they have?
This was a sad sad day indeed. |

Apparentely the Art Department would cry if their assets would not be used any more in-game.
On a related note, the Art Department would cry more if they had to create one more Amarr hull, which is all they would have had to do let all four races have 3 Industrials.
Also, InterBus should have the haulers, not ORE. |

This was a sad sad day indeed. Probably because the majority of us use industrials to haul modules and other items not covered by the specialized ships.
All of this has been covered, go read the main thread.
This is workable for now without devoting resources that simply aren't available right now. I do really like the idea of more 'civilian' ships that are non-racial in nature. The ORE line could be reinforced, as such, and we could also use InterBus or Sisters of EVE development lines for other industrial purposes. This cuts down the amount of art assets that need development, while allowing for new roles and styles. Further, it makes racial training less about industry and more about warfare, further differentiating development paths for players. |

It would have been far better for ORE to develop the new industrials, and then have the other empires (those that have more than two haulers) decide to retire their redundant hulls from service.
Instead we have a half-finished system that is heavily biased towards Gallente and Caldari, with those of us that have trained other races (I'm Amarr afterall) essentially left out in the cold. Moving the new specialty ships over to ORE would have both been more thematic, but more importantly, put everybody on equal footing since the ORE Industrial skill would be required. |

This change appears to have taken significant time from at least one or more devs and doesn't really solve the stated problems.
The stated problem was that tieracide made Gal the obviously and really only choice to train for indys.
That is still the case with these changes.
Does one race have slightly better m3 hauler, Yes. Does another race have a slightly faster hauler? Yes. Does any of that matter? Nope.
SP is precious and given the choice if you only could train one race of haulers its still going to be Gallente. Not only do you get the same choice every other race has, "lots of m3" or "tanky and fast", but you also get choices that no other race has, specialized bays.... (an ammo bay is kinda silly comparison compared to a REAL PI hauler.)
There is nothing "better" about these changes and it doesn't solve any problems. |

Moving the new specialty ships over to ORE would have both been more thematic, but more importantly, put everybody on equal footing since the ORE Industrial skill would be required. I'm sure in a perfect world the would have preferred to snap their fingers and simply restructure everything (and come up with new models, skills, etc.) in one go.
However, it's not a perfect world of unlimited time and resources.
A more of these ships to ORE (or elsewhere) would have required new art assets be created. For the moment, that's not possible so we have improvements made that were possible to do, but there is still a ways to go.
Remember, this really wasn't much of an issue (despite claims to the contrary) until the skills progression got reworked. It's going to take a bit of time, and they are perfectly useful for most of us. If you need a specialty hull, for the moment train Gallante. MMO's tend to develop in a series of iterations for a reason.
Or simply "Why put off til tomorrow the parts you can fix today".
This change appears to have taken significant time from at least one or more devs and doesn't really solve the stated problems. The stated problem was that tieracide made Gal the obvious and really only choice to train for indys. (an ammo bay is a kinda silly comparison compared to a REAL PI hauler.) There is nothing "better" about these changes and it doesn't solve any problems. Personally, I wouldn't bother with training Gallante on most of my characters, as they don't haul minerals, ore, or PI goods. They haul modules and equipment primarily... and occasionally large quantities of ammunition for resupply purposes, but thats not Gallante. I do have some characters that would benefit from the Gallante specialty bays. and for them it makes sense... but certainly not for the majority of them. More general cargo space has it's distinct advantages, as does faster travel time. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. More general cargo space is always an advantage. This was never being debated. The problem is that the differences between m3 in the races is so small that its not worth quibbling about. If you are getting roughly the same general m3 as the other races + two specialized bays it doesn't make since to train anything else. |

This is a great update. Good work Rise, and thanks for listening!
For those that didn't read the original threads, there was much rabbling about evening out numbers of hulls for all the races, or making them all ORE, etc etc. But Rise made it appropriately clear that the time and resources aren't there, and that they have some industry changes planned for the future that may impact things. They didn't want to implement seismic shifts in the industrial line before that happens. These changes are useful, bring the hauling capacities closer together to prevent the 'there can be only one' problem, and restore some of the racial flavor to the hulls. I'm looking forward to it. |

I'm not being the obtuse one. If you already trained for something, you wouldn't train again for it.
The original problem was that training anything else besides Gallente was kinda silly given the upsides of the itty5. The itty 5 wasn't nerfed in this update, everything else was buffed. Problem is Gallente were buffed as well, so as a new player the answer to the question of, what race hauler should I train for, the answer is always going to be Gallente. The differences in speed or m3 between the other races are not meaningful enough to offset the extra hulls you get for training Gal Indy.
(keep in mind I have all races indys to 5 because 4-5 years ago I wanted this char to be able to fly any of my alliances freighters). |

Rhapsody d'Elysium wrote: I agree with Valterra.
How is Amarr getting shafted. I have Amatrr industrials up to 5 and IGÇÖm super happy. In Bestower I get best general cargo capacity, with cargo containers I can carry +50k of cargo, only some 20% less then specialised Gallente or Minamatar hulls. And in Sigil I get best tank.
Also how would showing Iti 2-4 to Ore improve balance? If that was done Iti I would have to be made almost same as Sigil and Iti V almost same as Bestower to create balance between races, and that would mean homogenisation. Hawing asymmetric number of hulls among races actually helps maintaining racial balance while simultaneously avoiding making all industrials same because you can compensate lack of performance in general cargo hulls with access to specialised hulls.
With Rise's system now you actuality have to make meaningfully choice when you elect your industrial race. Do you want best overall general cargo? Amarr is your choice. Do you want access to specialised cargo carriers and donGÇÖt really care that much about general cargo? Gallente is your choice then. Do you simply want best speed and align times on your industrials? Well Minmatar is there for you. No race is redundant, each has it own niche. And is much more interesting then each race having two of the same industrials, and dumping any trace of diversity among them to Ore corporation (and Ore as separate ship line independent of 4 empires is itself a stupid idea that should have never been added to the game, but that is altogether different runt) Jessica Danikov > EVE is your real life. the rest is fantasy. caught in a corporation. no escape from banality. open up yours eyes, peer through pod good and seeeeeee. And how will the future industrial changes affect things? Are people just going to train-up for Gallente to use the new specialized hulls, then find their SP's wasted when they change things yet-again in the near future?

And there's no real 'SP-waste'. Everything is still only level 1 to operate. Something like an hour or two to fly every single ship mentioned in the thread if you want. That's a deal anywhere. |

Well I'm glad you're doing something with them because no offense but someone was feeling seriously shambolic on the day for the Odyssey changes. Industrials haul things, this is their entire reason to be. Giving indusrial Z more cargo space than any other hauler is like adding a set of weapon hardpoints to compat ship Z and then wondering why the market in everything else goes through the floor.
The bittervet rant finishes with the fact that although the CSM have done an awful lot to steer things back to a purpose (if you read a lot of the CSM member blogs some of this is almost a carbon copy of what they were suggesting) the fact remains that the shambles occurred in the first place.
(Seriously though, kudos to the CSM, you can see they have done an awful lot behind the scenes on this one) |

Rebalancing haulers is a good and welcome change.
The renaming is interesting, rather un-intuitive but I guess people will get used to it.
Just one thing though, please make the specialized haulers have a significant advantage in hauling the specific content!
Otherwise, why anyone use a specialized hauler that can only carry 30k when they could carry 50k with a general hauler that only requires industrial IV. "just coz it's cool" is not enough :)
so IMO, specialized haulers should be able to hold at least 25% more than the biggest general bay to be worth it. |

The only skill refund that I can recall is the elimination of the Learning skills. There's not been a single skill refund for skills that have become less useful than before. There's many ships and modules that are a lot easier to use skill-wise these days than in days past, and i could probably save a month or two of training if I could remap my old character accordingly. The most recent example? Freighters used to require Industrial V to fly - now only Industrial III is required - making Levels 4 and 5 now wasted points if you never intended to fly Industrials or Transports.
So in light of past experiences, yes I'd rather wait a little while longer rather than it be rushed out. |

There is NO reason to have 6 different skills for industrial ships! (4 for each race and then the two Ore skills we have now). (Not counting freighters.) All you needed was the two skills we have now, the first for subcaps, and the second for caps.
You could have solved the now huge racial imbalance you've actually made worse now.
Why would anyone need to train anything other than gal indy with all those special ships they have?
This was a sad sad day indeed.
Yeah would be better if the special bay ships became ore industrial ships and every race just has max cargo, max speed |

While correct that the itty 5 no longer has the best cargo or speed, I am also correct in that it wasn't nerfed, everything else was buffed.
Again my argument was about efficiency. Best is meaningless when the differences are so small. Why train for the best in one area with such marginal differences when its far more likely that training for the most hulls would likely yield unforeseen benefits in the future?
And no, I don't know this situation is going to change in the future, nor do I know that the proper time and resources will ever be available. I do however agree with you that most people now are more than happy with the changes since it means that a vast majority of the player base will be buffed, who wouldn't be happy with buffs?

I think these changes are fine and make sense. I still think you need a mini-freighter class... something like a 100k m3 cargo hold retailing for about 100 mil to bridge the gap between standard indys and freighters for hauler types.

I'm kind of confused though:
you go through the modules removing the different names saying it's hard for noobs to remember all the new names then you add a bunch of new names to the indy ships :P
Surely the normal "Iteron" should keep it's name as it is the progenitor of the class, a mark 5 with no mark one or reference to it seems strange also I understand changing the names of the ships getting dedicated bays to differenciate but the Itty 1 is just a standard hauler so ye no idea why your renaming it. |

Your main arguments were continuity and artists' time though.
Since continuity will be thrown overboard with the renaming anyway, what about my earlier suggestion of moving one of the former iterons each over to Caldari and Amarr respectively?
You'd end up with a very neat setup with each race having 2 general and one special purpose hauler at minimal investment.

Consider for a moment who needs big haulers: the most common use I have seen is for shuttling ore back and forth from mining operations. Sure, you could use a second Orca, but if you have a junior miner their options were to fly a Retriever and haul using that (nice big ore bay) or train to fly the Iteron V, configure for maximum capacity, and haul using that.
With this new set of industrials, nothing much has changed. Just use the specialty Gallente ore hauler rather than the Iteron V. Nothing changes.
I understand where you are coming from, but when thinking about hauling capacity you have to think about which ships are best for the hauling role you are about to perform. For some people (the "racial purists") there is only the slight pang of knowing that "cross-training" to Gallente would net them 15k m3 more ore hauling capacity over their Bestower. For everyone else, the specialty haulers mostly being under one racial banner make it easy to figure out which way to go: train Gallente for the most options. Train Caldari for maximum general cargo capacity. Train Minmatar if you really need to haul ammo around the place in a rusty metal box.

I'm sorry for not following the discussion etc
The only question I've got is:
Like with T2 cruisers being made slightly redundant by T1 cruiser changes, doesn't this set of changes make the T2 Industrials kind of redundant and overpriced for their 'roles'?
Perhaps if you could list the maximum cargo capacities (with full sets of expanders) for all the haulage types, and contrast that with the T2 haulers I'd comprehend better...
But right now, I'm feeling my rather pricey T2 rigged Occator and Viator just became rather obsolete... Or am I wrong?

I'm really just curious, since I don't use industrials. Sounds much more compelling it it would be kept as a Mark IV Quafe/??/?? - the Iteron V will be the only Iteron and my guess would be that item descriptions will perhaps reflect each of the former iterations being converted into something more specialized (~"the 3rd prototype by ... ended up as .."), so having a preserved special edition Mk IV almost makes it sound like some relic (think of it like having the Jesus fresco by Martinez before it's "restoration" - sorry for the terrible analogy, because i really really like the indy changes, but you get the idea) i just locked an open door.. strange, yet symbolically compelling. |

GÇ£CCP Rise, why are you balancing industrials, they are fine, go do something important like deleting falcons from the game (I kind of agree with you)GÇ¥
Was this just a joke and the Falcon here is CCP Falcon - like the first few posts seemed to suggest - or is there a feeling that the Caldari Recon ship is OP and needs such significant change that it won't continue as we think of Falcons now? I'm kinda training up two characters to use Falcons at the moment :( . If Ewar is calmed down to the point where it's more effctive to just bring another combat ship. . . I'm just worried. I know a lot of people hate ECM drones too. If we are concerned that being silenced by ECM is frustrating because people just want to pew pew - so we see ECM as a frustrating mechanic - or just EWar in general - so make it much less potent - then I see a significant part of the game being wiped out so that all we have left is DPS vs Tank. I'm already seeing people complaining that damps and disruptors are OP because unlike ECM they don't have a chance to fail - but if we don't like ECM too. . .then that's bleak for anyone who likes and somewhat needs EWar to live in lo-sec. Or are we just concerned about the Falcon Hull being OP and ECM being OK?
Other than that worry I love the new ships :) . |

First off, none of the specialized bays are under 40km3, secondly, You get an additional 10% per level. Please do your research before ranting. kthx.

I think these changes are fine and make sense. I still think you need a mini-freighter class... something like a 100k m3 cargo hold retailing for about 100 mil to bridge the gap between standard indys and freighters for hauler types.
It's a pretty decent pirce gapo between 100mil and an Orca, but the Orca fills that role quite well. Perfect skills with rigs and expanders brings the general cargo bay to 90km3, + the fleet hangar 40km3 |

Cheers.
T2's are designed for hostile space, not maximum cargo. Fitting them for maximum cargo ruins their advantage in tank. So my oppinion would be that you are wrong. |

Having just returned to the game, I'm afraid I wasn't able to debate these changes. I wasn't even aware they were in the works until this Dev post.
That said, I'm a bit on the fence with these changes. I've always felt that the different Empire ships were a little too homogenous - when a new mechanic hit, all races got the new mechanic at the same time. From a game play standpoint, this makes sense, since you don't favor one race over the other, but from a lore/continuity standpoint, it didn't make much sense at all.
Now, just to make sure I'm following all of this right - it seems Gallente got the most benefit out of this change by far. Minmatar got a new Ammo-hauling ship (an interesting idea, but not sure how useful it'll be. Can it haul drones too?). Caldari don't really get any new ships, but their Mark II gets renamed, and the Mark I gets Missile slots. I didn't see Amarr getting anything at all? Did they get left in the cold?
At first glance, it seems that those people with high Gallente Industrial skills will benefit from this the most. This seems like an odd design choice, considering balance has been so important in the past. Am I missing something?
Also, how will this impact the balance of Transports. Blockade Runners still have their role as the ultimate sneaky transport, but DST's need to compete with the revamped T1's sturdier hulls. |

It's fine giving them special names, but make the names more intuitive and related to what the ships do, because not all people read the dev blog and even those who did still don't know latin and will forget what the names stand for 10 mins after reading.
I hope you at CCP won't get stuck over the names of ships, that didn't take from the development budget - I hope, if it did then you need to hire me instantly and i'll be naming everything for you!.
Your arogance on top of your ignorance is getting irritating. Please accept that CCP is doing what they're doing. They've been doing it for 10+years on 3 AAA titles. They likely have a better sense of how to/not to do things than yourself.
As for people remembering the names, People will learn the new names in the exact same manner they've learned the other names of ships. When it matters to them.

That's nice for Galls and ok for Cald, but everyone else only having 2 haulers and no specializations? Seems like forcing purists to have to buy and train more skills just to be equal... No, you've got a general hauler with a large cargo bay for every race. If you want a ship with a specialized bonus you cross-train, it works the same way that if you want a bonus to ECM you need to train Caldari etc. If you want to be able to switch between different bonuses, you need to be able to fly multiple races. I'm sure that CCP will spread any future bonused hulls around the other races, but there's no requirements for new bonuses at the moment, and no art department time to do new hull designs.
True that; however, each race has equal numbers of ships in their combat classes. 7 frigates, 2 destroyers, 4 cruisers, 3 battlecruisers, 3 battleships. The scorpion is the only BS to give ECM bonus making you cross train; however, the same could be said about the geddon and neuts...the point being that each race has equal quantities of ship regardless of specialization.
The same should be true for industrials as well. It would be one thing to give the gall a specialized ship and nothing to the rest but in this example the gall are getting 3 while minmatar get one, the caldari and amarr sit back with their hands out still. From what ive seen on the bays, there are 4 types of specialized bays, i think its more then adequate to split them equally among the four races. Let the minmatar keep the Hoarder's ammo bay, let one of the old itties keep a bay perhaps PI, give the caldari the mineral one maybe and the amarr the ore bay.
Thus you would need to eliminate 2 ships out of the gall lineup and craete models and 2 new assets for amarr and caldari respectively. Each race would have equal ships that way. PLUS if you fly caldari and want the PI indy you STILL need to cross train as you pointed to the ecm example; however, if you fly mostly gallenete and want a mineral bay you would cross train to fill that role. Either way I'd prefer that setup then the one proposed. |

That's pretty severe; I wouldn't call the idea of people not using the new names "ignorant" at all; quite the opposite really. It's human nature to resist change, and history has shown that when we try giving a new name to something old, it takes a long time before it's use is common (if it ever catches on).
For example, back in 2000, in order to try to overcome negative connotations for marketing purposes, the California Prune Board announced that they were officially changing the name "prunes" to "dried plums." The new name was supposed to be more appealing. They spent over $10 million on a campaign to promote this change.
To this day, I don't know anyone who calls them "dried plums." In fact, I have a hard time finding anyone who even remembers that this change took place. This is regardless of the fact that many growers still label their products as "dried plums;" people still just call them prunes, even if the label says differently.
So you can change the name, you can rewrite the labels, but when people see something familiar, they will continue to call it what they have always called it, despite any efforts to enforce a change. |

I love that it's not completely 'balanced', and gives a bit more racial flavor.
I don't care much for the name change, but their names aren't much to me one way or another.
Only thing I'd really like to see added to this, is possibly combining some of the ideas from your playerbase into a new class of industrial hauler for ORE which is more unique than your standard parts-movers. Taking some of those ship fitting and jump fuel ideas we keep harping on for smaller-than-orca ships.
Really let the Industrial class begin to flourish. If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that? |

I have 3 main uses for Industrial haulers;
1) Missions; according to eve survival the largest story line mission for Level 4 is 40k, never seen a T1 hauler carry that in one go.
2) Mining assist; the fact that I see one ship carrying Ore and another carrying minerals, is cruel and laughable, so every new high sec miner has to have 2 hauling ships for one operation, not nice.
3) My most important need, a hauler that can move ships from a high sec trade hub to areas of danger, packaged ships and ammo, modules, no T2 hauler seems capable of that. The cloaked Prowler, 3 frigs at best, the Mastodon, higher capacity but still not safe enough to get through low sec safely.
My corp. and alliance use a collection of Freighters, Jump freighters and carriers to get ships and modules to low sec, an absurd level of skills for a simple task, but they have no alternative.
I would like to be able to carry a reasonable amount of small ships in the cloaked T2 version if possible, short distances from hi-sec to low-sec, otherwise Industrial hauling has no value to me. Although this hope is more in the area of T2 Industrials, I don't believe this will happen.
Also to a previous poster, who implores us to trust CCP as they have a great record in updates and patches. I personally have never been privileged to fly a single ship that has been improved by CCP, only nerfed and made less useful or valueable ever. Rifter nerf, Rupture nerf, Tracking Enhancer nerf (for minmatar ships that shoot in falloff 99% of time) Drake nerf, Hurricane nerf, Typhoon changes, Medium missiles nerfed. The best result as a Minmatar pilot I have EVER experienced in a patch or update, has been "mostly unchanged". EVER. So how about a reduced subscription for Minmatar races as an apology. |

Um, ok, not really sure where I was "ranting;" I was just pointing out an example illustrating that changing the names of well-known items doesn't always take right away. I wasn't even commenting on whether I thought the new names are good or not, I just made an observation about human nature, and demonstrated that there is valid reason to assume that at least at first, these new names might not be widely used.
Frankly, I think you need to just calm down a little; in calling people "incredibly ignorant," devoid of "logic or reason," and identifying simple statements as "ranting," you seem to be taking this whole name issue a little too personal than is healthy, and are demonstrating some of the characteristics of which you have accused others. |

1) Currently itty 5 with gallente indy 4 and 2 t2 rigs and 1 t1 rig exceeds 40km3
2) You don't "need" to use the specialized ships to haul ore and minerals, so low level pilots will just use a general purpose hauler like thay've always done.
3) That's part of the balance of EVE, every economy needs "Money sinks" to help alleviate all the currency that gets generated out of thin air to help manage inflation.
4) The fact that you're always on the wrong side of the imbalance when it comes to ships and weapons is your own fault, not CCP's. Please stop whining because you can't have your unfair gameplay anymore.
In conclusion: Your rant is very poorly thought out and has a lot of holes. Please spend more time thinking through your comments to help avoid embarrassing situations that reflect poorly on you. |

I presume you refer to Freighters as you associated with Red Frog? You obviously hadn't considered the fact that if CCP 'rebalance' the four Freighter racial variants the end result will be a forty percent increase to the material requirement to build them. We desperately need a rethink on this process before any more ship production lines are borked for the foreseeable future.
Aside from that I don't see a need to 'rebalance' Freighters as there are only four of them and they have different characteristics to choose from now. |

Name changes, really?
No offense, but the developers seem to be caught up in creating their own fantasy rather than the utility of the indy class. What a colossal waste of time!! Rebalancing (and that term is used very loosely) of the indy class was questionable to begin with (you said so yourself!!!). You've done nothing meaningful here. My apologies to those who feel differently but, a drone bay for an industrial???????????? WTF over? It's a hauler for God sake...who in their right mind is going to get any use from that?
Sorry but, I'm just flat disgusted with the process...I saw so many good ideas and real opportunity for making an impactful change here and most everything of worth was ignored. Specialized bays (credit where credit is due, there was at least some of this), ship maintenance bay, the ability to haul rigged ships, and perhaps most importantly addressing the grand canyon gulf between indies and freighters (I thought this one would have been first on the list)!!!!!!!!!!! If you could not do any of them then you should have just left well enough alone.
One person's opinion....and tempered with the knowledge that it's easy when your outside the programming to take shots (it's not so much sarcasm as it is intended to be constructive criticism)

Out of curiosity, how is the industrial re-balancing going to effect current BPOs? Will they just be re-named with the new names and create the new ships? Will the material requirements or anything like that be changed or altered? (they should be, since these are really actually new ships in an old hull). |

Can we get an idea on the carrying capacity of this thing? I'm hoping for 50,000 m3 without the need of rigs, with a building cost comparable to the current Iterons so it won't kill my entire week's manufacturing profit if I lose it like losing a Viator would. |

I agree it would be nice to have a new set of four - one for each race - of 'half-size' freighters to bridge the gap. The main problem with this is that it brings Freighters into the 'CCP Rebalancing' campaign. This will then result in a mass of extra materials being added to the manufacturing requirements for all four existing Freighters. Production of most of the smaller ships has been made problematic with the 'extra materials' and 40% added to the build cost of Freighters would be horrendous.
In conclusion I pray that all capital ships, both 'true capital' or otherwise are not touched by the ugly stick and ruined with extra materials on their BPOs. |

Personally, I'd stick with the blockade runner for lowsec hauls. The bigger cargo bay just means more loot, so you're a bigger target, and you don't have the advantage of the cloak or scan immunity. I'd rather take more small trips knowing that they are more secure than fewer high risk trips that basically say "come get me!" |

Your call, but that five gallon can is an easier target, and a more tempting one, as there's more loot to be had for a single attack. If it's a five gallon can of jewels I have to drag down the street in plain sight with a big label on it (anyone who sees a specialized ship like an Epithal will know what it is hauling), or a one gallon can I can hide under my coat, I'll make more trips to keep it secure.
Of course, I'm sure it depends on the local activity in your corner of lowsec. If things are quiet enough that you can make the trip in a giant loot pinata, go for it. Or, you could just let me know where you're hauling, and maybe I'll finally give in and turn to piracy.... |

I thought "The society is a perfect canidate to build the specialty industrials"
They could all be represented by one image of a remodelled Gnosis.... enlarged with a modified forward hull... with the specialties determined by what's inside the enlarged hull (which wouldn't change from one variant to the next)
I think this fits the idea of the Society working with ORE and the other NPC courier group perfectly

thinking more along that lines...
There only needs to be one rendering of the "industrial Gnosis". There doesn't need to be a new rendering for each specialty.
In fact, there doesn't need to be a new name for each specialty. nobody except the capsuleer (and his client) needs to know what version the ship is. Everybody else only knows it's a 'MegaGnosis' and knows it carries a special type of load. They don't need to know what type of load.
Also, an even larger size can be made (the 'Super Gnosis?) for that hauling gap between the industrials and the freighters. It can operate under the same 'specialty basis' as the smaller 'Mega'. |

Yes, that's one trip where you're carrying a big sign and running around yelling "come and get me!" with your jewels in plain sight; I'd rather take five trips quietly in the background where it's harder for anyone to find me or know what it is I'm carrying (coudl be jewels, could be baking flour, could be nothing). |

I agree, this is entirely stupid to begin with, do you now realize what you have done? Now gankers just sit and browse for cargo hold types they want to slaughter by ship type. Why not just paint "GANK ME FOR MAX PAYOUT"? on them???
I like the BAY concept but A better solution would have been to create a bay module that changes the type of materials you can carry maximum capacity of. Let the pilot decide what BAY they want to install on their ship.
For Example:
An ammo module for module bay A mineral module for Minerals A PI module for PI materials
This way no one could just sit at a gate and say "oh look i want to kill mineral carriers today".
TRACTOR TRAILERS on the Freeways don't identify whats in them, you have to scan everyone to tell what cargo you want to suicide gank for.
This is just a complete mental breakdown in concept to begin with. Each ship needs to be "GENERALIZED" and cargo unidentifiable unless scanned by an appropriately utilized scanner module mounted on a ship.

With things in EvE moving over to the "Bay" model for carrying things, I think it's about time Expanded Cargo's worked on Bays as well as the native cargo hold (Or release a specific mod) as well as anything giving a negative bonus to cargo doing the same.
If I'm carrying basic cargo, I can over double my capacity, but if i'm now carrying say gas I can't have the hauler designed for it increase it's effectiveness in the same way. Having Expanded Cargo's effect bays could open up options beyond haulers. Barges carrying more Ore per run if they drop a mining enhancer, carriers and dreads dropping a little tank or damage to carry more siege fuel, ect

No, you don't get it either,
if they are identifiable by anything such as you suggest then they become easy floating targets for gankers. All they have to do is sit at gates like Niarja blow up the ore/mineral haulers for potential big isk.
unless you make them "armored cars" with tanks like battleships which i seriously doubt CCP wants to do, see my earlier post on making them configurable similar to t3 cruisers.....
Each Race should have only two, there is no need to more than that, one big and slower, one faster but smaller and have the pilot choose the "BAY" module to get max room for specialized hauling.
I shouldn't have to cross race train to get any specific benefit to haul, this is a basic function to eve.

if you were correct they wouldn't need to create different types of trucks to carry all the liquids...... they could just as easily put the tank inside a container and utilize the standard fittings on every tractor trailer
obviously you are incorrect and efficiency isn't the reason.....it's so they fuels and caustic liquids are easily identifiable and not hidden amongst the other cargo as i said along with a "TX endorsement" on your Class A license in the United States.
In EVE we need that hidden camouflage to protect our haulers from the scum of the game that are to lazy anything but prey on those that actually work mining, building or hauling.
Since CCP refuses to stop paying insurance to suicide gankers for having Concord destroy their ships for committing crimes (another stupid act that no real life insurance company would do because it's considered fraud and they would all go out of business.)

And what's the "Major" difference in Freighters? You don't get Highs/med/lows to fit and they are all basically the same? I'd be happy with one blasted industrial but they started with two for Caldari and Amarr and 3 for Minmatar, 5 for Gallente. Since they screwed the training requirements, sorry, simplified them to just level 1 for all industrials, why not just go further and only make one for each race and use Bay modules ? that makes it really easy......
(But then again i haven't seen CCP do anything simply. for example wtf did extra minerals come from on BPO's? in real life manufacturing there's no such thing, you either need something or you don't)
Would having only one industrial hauler for each race make the game to simple? There isn't much justification i can see for having more than one anymore. |
