Get a life, it's a totally random system which means yes it's most definitely possible and actually quite probable that people will get that lucky and maybe even luckier at times.
What kind of selfish bad sportsmanship is it when because you know of someone who got lucky twice you cry about it in public instead of just wishing them well?
Omg h4x - there was a totally random output from that totally random system then!! How unexpected!

I Totally agree with all of the people in this thread that even if one person wins a bpo randomness would mean they could win again, even the exact same print.
But also you have to think how probable that is. Since the lotto came out ive seen at least 20+ ppl who have won multiple times, even the same print.
How often does someone win the powerball in the united states. Now how often does someone win it twice :D

Not a valid comparision, there have been over a 1000 prints in some of the streams and at times only a few thousand projects. Multiple wins are a very high probability, as is getting nothing.

I got my second tech 2 print offer from the new items seeded with RMR. The first I got offered (after a year if research) while I was inactive in march, so this is my first print that I actually got hold off. I won't tell what it is because I don't want silly people to try and buy it off me.
I don't think the lottery system is "loaded" in any way. There's some things you should remember: Many peeps are doing research in the same field, Caldari Starship Engineering proberly being the biggest. Funny enough is the starship fields the ones with the lowest ammount of BPO seeded, so it's no wonder you get so little out of them. Trev stated his research to be in fields where the ammount of prints seeded are much higher so of course he can get 7.

I think RP "bidding" is the way to go, honestly, much rather than a random system.
Best idea I've seen for this in a very long time. :)

The only real problem is that you accumulate RP without doing anything. There should be a falloff limit or a severe reduction if you ignore your 'best research friend' for months. In actuality it should be akin to the standings system. Easy enough to get upper middle, then it gets progressively harder to obtain RP.
This would reward those who actually help their agents with bonus rp rewards from missions rather then ignoring them till they print you a money tree. |

Yep. I find this slightly bothersome, myself, but it is quite valid. :)
Well I didn't know you could do this. I'll have to try it. Shall we call this unfair? maybe not, maybe so. At least I can have all my three chars train a skill, so this doesn't sound all that bad.
That was a point I'd made in an earlier post. To do this is quite legal. It just smacks me as being rather odd, considering the also time-based SP can only be trained on one character per account at a time.

Without looking at the distribution of all the lottery wins from the start, it's really hard to say anything about how well the actual distribution compares to a random distribution. As players we simply don't have the information to make a proper analysis, even if we did there would not be a great number ofplayers with the mathematical knowledge to analyse the data correctly. I know I couldn't do it.
For all you doubters, just remember that there are many many more ways to produce an uneven distribution of wins than there are an even one near the start of a random lottery. Mt half-assed understanding of it is that the bigger the total number of possible distributions, the longer (more draws) it takes before if becomes probable that the overall distribution will even out.
Congratulations to those that have won, may your BPO one day be scooped from your can and into my hold.

Then give us this information! The absense of facts makes a good ground for common misunderstanding of situation.
This is what I propose as an 'information disclosure' for the RP lottery here: publishing of lottery results.

Its overall a terrible system.. Newer players have no chance of ever owning a t2 bpo basically. They should consider new alternatives to this absurd Lottery System

Have I ever mentioned how utterly retarded the lottery system is? FFS, how hard is it to make T2 BPOs 'decay' after 1-2 months, and get reseeded? I don't care if it hurts some companies. Cry me a river, the monopolies are completel bull**** CCP.

Got the amarr recon ship on a character and it cost 130,000+ rp from the agent. The character in question had 800,000 rp between 6 agents
A totally diffrent character won the caldari recon ship and it cost 205,000+ RP, the character in question had over 1,000,000 rp between 6 agents.
Sound unfair now?
Yes, it does. You make just some R&D chars whose total combined points are maybe 1/5000th the ammount of everyone else combined. You wouldn't know fair if you got kicked in the face by a carney.

130,000 RP over two years? You only have 2 research agents? Or are you using several low level agents?
You could increase your chances by sorting that out.

Edited by: Frezik on 24/12/2005 21:23:17 It's not impossible, or even improbable, that one person could win several t2 BPOs in a completely random drawing. In fact, it's quite likely that it will happen, especially with multiple accounts. It's unlikely that this person would be me. Or you. Or even TomB. But with the number of people entering the t2 lotto, it's likely to happen to someone. It's even likely that someone will win a $1million jackpot lotto three times in a row. It's just unlikely that it will be me. Or you. Or TomB. ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |

To those posting about wanting RP Bidding, I also do not think this is a great idea.
Just due to the extreme amount of people out with 500,000 RP and people just coming to the game and deciding on the path of R&D would be so far behind they would never get the chance at a BPO. Also, think about the fact that someone with the money: they could start 5 accounts ( and for them thats probably nothing so it'd more likely be like 10 ) then start a R&D char on each slot on those accounts. After having R&D agents and a steady stream of RP on each account, he then lets them go inactive accumilating RP while not even paying for the game. 6 months later he activates them to check their progress and decides to do a bit of bidding.

The number of BPOs given out per tech II item seem to be the same as it was when tech II was first introduced, and even then it wasn't enough. Of course, the people who own the BPOs are going to disagree with that.
Let's have an RP bidding system or an RP offer system or an RP market or something!

ive just recently got into it myself so ive got no where near 1/3rd of what any of you longer playing players have in RP. imo it does look messed up. a friend of mine has been playing this game since the beta and not received one single bpo.
how can you be in the game since day one and not even get 1??
that just shows you how silly the current lottery system is and im sure that his not the only character in this game who has got nothing yet. then there are other players who are running about with 50.........yes 50 T2 bpos which they have got over time through wining them and purchasing.
there was 1 post that mentioned what a GM said about the lottery system before "They regretted making it". they really should do something to change it then if thats how they feel

It probably was luck. Yes, there's also the possibility that CCP is using a biased random number generator or something that correlates too much with cpu hw clock time (they're usually crappy on intel machines, especially when under load), but no way telling that from the outside.
Even so, the guys who won still'd have to be lucky to win, just in another way, since it's highly unlikely that the drawing process can be really "directed" from the outside. ;)

The system needs to be replaced with something that requires user interactivity and skills.
For example, randomly thought up without reflecting too much:
When a new BPO gets seeded, it needs to be achieved. For each item type BPO, you'll have to get specific items from (specific) missions that you might have looted in COSMOS missions or wherever else, maybe even just items available on different regional markets, that will be required in not-so-easily solvable puzzles supplied by the research agents. For each solved puzzle, you get a BPO, restriction being one of a type per character per corp. There should be randomized puzzles for the same BPO, so noone can conspire and sweep the BPO seeding.
This would be a way better improvement and allow newer characters to have a fair chance in the T2 market, because the last thing you'll ever achieve is a mass of RP these days.

yeah then what happend with tech 1 will happen to tech 2, as it is a lot of tech 2 stuff barely makes a profit.
you can make it a difficult puzzle all you want, lol that sounds pathetic, if players have the ability to produce bpos the market will crash end of.

Not produce. There'll still be a limited amount of BPOs, just like now, that however will get handed out on a first-solve first-get basis. If you're late puzzle solving, you're out of luck.
