Well, basic information is starting to circle, but all I've been able to tell is that there is some form of alpha testing, and that in the first minute the servers went up - over 50,000 people tried to login... That would with my estimates probably even out to be 300,000 people online at once if it all got settled....
So, any chance of some information on the server for us TQ players? We may not be able to play on it, but we all still want to know what's going on! -------- Shinra Director

Remember, its an alpha test. The vast majority may not go on to play the actual game due to its cost or the fact that they didn't like it.

At the same time, that means that word of mouth hasn't come into effect, and not many people have heard about it. -------- Shinra Director

I really don't think there will be a way to make that happen with current technologies and the design of eve.

Enslaver, since when did you become a shill for Eve China? Propaganda...
Look, Eve ain't a big unknown. People in China DO now about it. there's not the sort of blossom effect you're drraming of in there. And if it was... then for certain it'd become the main focus of CCP's efforts.
Do remember that the billing model in China is likely to be quite radically different - you don't get the same sort of income per subscriber (It's generally a timecard model, with n hours per timecard).

well it may seem harsh but the main reason why many chinese who want to play eve is to make money. however they do it thats the main reason for probly most of those 50k people who go on the alpha test to cheak it out.
thats pretty much what i know as im chinese and live in the uk but tryed get a cousin who lives over in china to play this great game but he wount as he knows through other people that many players will play it through macros etc and thinks that there isnt any point of playing.
no saying thast ALL chinese players will macro but pretty conviced most are.

Do you realize that since the buyers of ISK on eBay and the like are Westerners, that there will be no ISK selling business, or at least a minimal one, on the Chinese server?

Well, I guess we know what happened to the old TQ hardware if the China cluster has suddenly appeared for testing!

Yeah thats right, a server which struggled with 20k users is being stress tested with 50k....

EVE is getting a separate cluster, AFAIK that's the only sharding in EVE.

Whats so funny?
ISK selling relies on two things:
1. People with lots of money to buy the ISK. 2. People with very little money to sell it (as its not a very profitable individual business).
In China, a very good yearly wage is 10 grand a year. In America, a similarly good wage would be 100 grand a year. Without those comparatively rich players to buy the ISK, the prices for ISK will be so low that it won't even be worth it to the Chinese to farm it either.

I'm not sure...
The major problem which CCP have also encountered on TQ is that 1 system is limited to 1 node. They can have 50 system run on one node, but not the other way around.
Baring that in mind, the amount of people the server can effectively handle is dictated by the fastest single node available on the market. |

woohoo for random speculation!
seriously people... relax.
though I do imagine it should be interesting to see how play styles, strategys and fitting techniques develop on the other server. stereotypical or not, in large I think most would agree that asians as a whole approach gaming, and general problem solving in an entirely different way than westerners do, (that not being an entirely good or bad thing) and how hearing of those strategys, may or may not effect things on Tranq.

If I played on the China server, I'd be in 0.0 asap setting up outpost guns ans staking claims/mining the hell out of the good ores.
Just imagine sitting at some belt that gives zyd or mega, and only having to deal with npc spawns for DAYS.

Yeah we're actually moving to Serenity en-masse and have an arrangement set up with a Chinese provider so we can all connect. As most of us are Devs anyway we're pretty active in the development and testing of the Chinese cluster.
The language lessons have been a bit of a problem though but it certainly helped pass the time during our last month's carebearing when we were all practicing our Mandarin on Teamspeak and in gang chat.

This made me lol irl.
I would like to hear how EVE China is going, though. Are players from Korea and/or Japan playing on it heavily too? -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?
