Since todays patch it's happened to me twice, one of which resulted in a ship and capsule loss (Due to no E-Warp apparently 3 mins after)
The screen suddenly starts making strange black areas flashing then completely crashes, however the applications appear to still all be working. The only result to quit EVE is to force shutdown the computer.
EVE is completely unplayable like this and this needs to be fixed asap.

This has started on my macbook too!?
Been playing for a few years on this macbook with no issues. If anything its been running better recently.. until today!? Just screen freeze, mouse still moves but can't force quit and have to restart mac. I reloaded and fortunately hadn't been killed and before the warp finished it did it again.. this then happened 3 times in a row. Going to wait tip i get home and load it on my bigger iMac.

I see the PC player base is getting more issues this patch too, maybe this is related as I see someone having a "flashing" issue. |

Different issue though, try and bypass the launcher.
Right click your eve client -> Show Package contents -> Contents -> Resources -> Click EVE Online then it should go onto the login screen ingame. |

Apparently turning all graphics on the right to "Low" or "None" has fixed the issue for me (for now). Everything checked in the middle as well. Problem Is I don't like playing on such low graphics but it's fine for me until this gets solved.
I tested on SiSi yesterday that having all graphics as low or none and checkmarks (ticks) all off in the middle stops the crashing. So if crashing still happens with the checks in the middle turn the checks off. if it still happens then reply on this. |

I tested both and still gotten freezes as well so I removed the solutions on my main thread, i thought it was a possible fix but it was not. Unplayable day of EVE added with a loss of a ship
Also confirming I have no bug report reply yet. |

It might be best to make a new thread for that issue, lots of people are getting it but it's a different issue all together. |

2 MacBook and it doesn't anymore on both.
I tried :
- Clear client cache from Launcher
- Remove folder "~/Library/Application support/EVE online"
- Starting within the package contents : login Ok, then black frozen screen
- Delete EVE Online, re-install, Re-patch (no choice)
Nothing works !
And because of forcing shut down, one of my MacBook seems to have lost his bleutooth hardware |

Similar. I've had no issues with the game at all until today's patch..
2009 Macbook OSx 10.6.8 2GHs dual core 2GB ram
1. Launch Client 2. User name and password 3. Launches to black screen
Tried the solution above: Users/library/..... etc and deleting the files.
Got the start-up video and then back to the black screen.

I had this problem last week but it only happened on one character. I was stuck warping to a station and every time I landed on grid everything locked up with the screen flickering. I didn't see any posts about it so I contacted CCP. They put my toon in the station and it was fine.
Until today. Now all my accounts are doing this and they are doing it from the character selection screen. The screen is black and flickering. The game is completely unplayable. |

- Open client : right click on the the App and then "show package contents/Contents/Ressources/EVE Online
- before authenticating : Settings / window mode / Apply
- Authenticate and launch... the window get black and all screen frozen for 30 seconds and unfreeze and seems to work properly.

Window mode worked perfectly 2 times and for the other times, unpossible to select a character. But the advantage of window mode is that you can acces to the force quit window to kill EVE Online instead of forcing shutdown you mac.
Got to wait for the daily Server shut down and pray for a new patch ? |

What settings do you mean? in the launcher or in the contents menu?
Some others mentioned setting Shader quality down. How do I do that, if a can't even choose my character so i don't get to any settings options...? |

Well i've tried windowed mode and still it hangs - though yes not having to force shut down my mac is a bonus right?
It seems to mainly happen in warp - i had to freezes when accessing the map while warping too.

If you launch the application without the launcher (right clic on EVE Online icone then select "Show Package contents" in the contextual menu, and in the package go to Contents/Ressources. Here you have the application Eve Online).
When you do this and when it works you arrive on the previous Home screen where you have a Settings button. By clicking on this button you access to settings window in which you can tune your EVE environnement. And you can do this before connecting and choose your character.

Thanks, found it but sadly didn't solve my problem. I set everything to the lowest possible and switched to windowed mode, but I still have the same problem. Black screen, mouse is moving and music is playing, but don't see my char, so I obviously can't choose it to play and can't even close EVE. Only solution is to restart manually... |

Yep, that's it ! The only benefit of the window mode for the moment is that you may access the Apple menu / Force quit and kill EVE Online without forcing shut down your mac. |

Many people said that going to windowed mode and bypassing the launcher helps this issue. I do not have this bug, and I always play in windowed mode. I also use client clones and those bypass the launcher.
So I fired up my main install, set full screen, logged into my Jita alt and warped about for 10 minutes. No issue. So its something else. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

I am having the same issue as well. I have messed around with un-installing and all that numerous times which sufficed to say....sucks. The client is still not working for me. On one character, my character selection loads up, I load station, I can do everything in station fine. Once I undock from the Gallente station I have been LOCKED IN for a week due to the issue, my client goes nuts.
On another character, who is currently seated in his thanatos (saying this as maybe it's a gallente issue.....gallente station freeze, thanatos? witchcraft and candlesticks?) I cannot even see the character selection screen, however I can "mystery click" and it will log on. It will then load station and all I see is green. Kermit the frog would love this, however, I am extremely unamused considering I have just payed for another few months across 4 characters......just love pissing money away.....
EVE for me is unplayable at this point, and it's been this way since the patch.

I've downladed the patch aswell and here are my attempts:
1) logg in via launcher and still get black screen after game starts with music . now i could klick on my not seen character get into hangar and nothing after that
restart
2) clear cache and file from app support folder, start game bypassing launcher. change settings to windowed mode and eerythong off/ on minimum quality . Finally I see my character, logg in and see the ship in hangar after that i wanted to make my screen bigger so I changed scaling - big mistake, game frozen again
3) try to logg in again bypassing launcher and it keeps saying that my password or login isnt correkt i ckeck it couple times but nothin, so i cleared the cache and i got in into the black screen again .
so something still obviously isnt working. |

Still jacked for me as well. Perhaps they cannot replicate the issue because they work on PC's all day? Either way, this issue renders the game unplayable for me, and I just plexed 3 accounts before the patch a few days ago. To CCP, we are handing you money to not receive a product.
I do not see the problem in making a post saying "your computer may no longer be compatible with EVE, get a new one" before I run around plexing accounts to not be able to play. I'm not asking for my money back, but maybe some insight on the issue, or what you guys THINK it may be, or if its something thats even being worked on : /

I appreciate that this is frustrating, but the fact is that this is not happening on all Macs - see https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4195477#post4195477 for example. We would also have noticed if there was a significant drop in logins from Macs. This makes it harder for us to track down, but we are still working on it. |

Haven't had an issue until today. I had about an hour logged then decided to do a Mission then I froze in the middle of space. Tried docking and nothing happened. When I rebooted Eve I was near the dock but not docked, froze again and rebooted. Third attempt and I was finally in the dock.
Seems like the game is still doing some of the things we request we're just not able to see them on our end. Hope this problem gets fixed soon. If theres any information I, or we, can supply I'm sure everyone would be more than willing. |

I would love to do so... unfortunately, if I try to launch the game after logging into the launcher, all that happens is that the windowed application is completely black and unresponsive. my hole mac now turns unresponsive, too. Forcing me to hard reboot every time I try to launch the game.
This issue appears since the patch on tuesday. I was just fine thru the weekend and since tuesday I can't even get on to the character selection screen.
I have so far tried clearing all caches, completely wiped and downloaded a complete fresh client. With the absolute same result.
Right now my character ran out of training, I just BOUGHT new gametime on my other account (where the training queue will expire soon) and I can't even log in.
And I can't even get you a log file or bug report, as all I get is a complete frozen up computer after trying to launch eve.
Any suggestions on what to do, please?

It isn't happening on all macs, I agree but it is happening on both older core 2 duoi macs and newer i7 macs so I hardly think it is a hardware issue, or a mac not meeting the minimum requirements. (Within reason obviously)
I imagine the amount of people logging in on a machas declined massively duo to the whole computer freezing up.
Very, very frustrating.
Will you be looking ot some form og ingame compensation for players that can't login to update skills etc.
On a brighter note, it is good to see CCP responding on the thread and not ignoring the mac user base. |

Can you guys check, if OpenGL is checked on your settings?
I tried this and it worked... sort of.
I did not have OpenGL enabled, but did change the setting interval mode to immediate. When I then logged in from the client window I still got a black screen and it appeared that the same thing was happening.
But I waited a minute and then clicked in the client window where one of the character portraits would normally be. It then logged that character into the world. Right before the normal play window came up, I saw for half a second the character select screen in all its glory.
I also submitted a bug report.

This issue I first posted on forums eventually diverted to the black login issue which wasn't what I posted... myself haven't obtained the black login problem but the flicker crash. I'm going to try todays patch at some point to see if my flicker crash happens anymore.
But has the flicker crash been fixed for anyone? The one I said on my original post. |

I noticed the person with no problem is running 10.7.5. An older OS, not Mavericks.
What operating system are we all running and receiving the flicker freeze issue with? I want to know if it's all Mac OS's or just Mavericks.
Also is CCP testing this with what OS? 10.9.1? 10.7.5?

The ingame crashing problem is made worse by the fact that it is not, in fact, a crash.
Rather, the UI freezes, while the rest of the client chunks away happily. This is why you don't disappear from space.
This problem has been around for a long time but it is getting steadily worse. Before todays patch, I couldn't go more than 15 minutes without a freeze.
At one point, I had one copy of the client with the frozen UI, and another one happily bumping the the frozen toon's ship. As soon as I force-quit the first copy of the app, he ewarped off. Like any honest politician, "My door is always open, and my hand is always out" |

Yep, thats how my ship loss possibly happened as well as capsule.
Worse is I need to force shutdown my computer because it freezes up my entire computer screen. So I can't get log data for it or anything. |

Ok. Just for the Archive. I have the same problem.
It started about 3 days ago when the game was crashing more often than usual. Bad thing was, that restarting the game didn-¦t worked any more, because the launcher went black after pressing "play". Rebooting the computer helped.
Since today I cannot even access the game with a booted computer. After pressing "play" the screen goes black. There are game noises in the background. Mouse cursor is visible.
Bad thing.... for a trader. |

If the game freezes, instead of doing a hard reset, try holding Command + Alt + Escape - this is the Ctrl Alt Delete equivalent in OSX. It has worked for me every time by automatically closing out the current application (which is Eve) and if it doesn't, then it should allow you to force quit the application manually.
As for the actual freezing problem, someone mentioned in another thread to disable Eve voice chat and it apparently worked as my game has not crashed since. Worth a shot. |

Also forgot to mention that holding Command + Alt + Shift + Escape for about 3 seconds will definitely terminate the current application.
I've tried all possible solutions to stop this, my EVE Voice is already disabled a while ago. It isn't the solution, it's a bug within EVE causing it which can only be solved by patching.
I forgotten about the command + alt + shift + escape, but if it does anything I'm unsure. If I'm willing to force my computer into a crash again I'll give it a go and try get logs on it. |

Just put through a petition when it gets fixed and you will get all your SP refunded. I've had an issue a long while ago, and got SP reimbursement.
SP isn't the issue here, it's our game being unaccessable. And getting game time back would also be allowed for this. |

I'm using the same 2009 9400M 256, 4GB ram system. I'm running 10.6.8 still and this problem has been around for awhile for me. But I only seem to encounter it on POS grids. Even with everything unchecked, brackets off and lows as I can get everything to go, it still pops up from time to time. Screen flickers, glitches out and I eventually have to force quit. Hasn't been as frequent until recently. I can log in and play but I'm cringing and crossing my fingers when we warp to a tower. Makes bridging out or fighting on towers nearly impossible. Just want to add that when I launch EVE in windowed mode and minimize the window the screen still flickers when the character selection screen opens. About 15-20 seconds after the character selection screen appears the whole computer freezes. Again, this is happening in full screen mode, window mode while open, and window mode while minimized.
Not sure if this is helpful or not. |

Still happening after todays update, running windowed mode, game starts fine, after running for an hour or two, the game flashes then freezes not only the Eve client but the whole Mac UI, I can't click on anything, thankfully command, alt, shift, esc kills the Eve client and the Mac UI returns back to normal. Happened one time in a wormhole scouting enemy POS, and the other in fleet warping to battle, when interestingly although the UI was completely frozen it seems like the game was still running in the background, and I could hear fleet fc talking on eve voice. This is running on Macbook Pro 13 inch 4 GB NVIDIA GeForce 320M |

I have a fix for black-out character selection screen, albeit a temporary and superficial one. Once you reach the blacked character selection screen, try to click on the empty character slot(s), It's easy for me since I only have one character, once you do you will be directed to the character creation screen which is fully functional and visible, after that is just simply cancel your character creation and Voil+á! regular visible character selection screen, and you can go into the game, no problem!! But...
If your character was in a docking station, DO NOT undock, as soon as you do, once the game renders in the textures it will crash. So... well, at least you can get the SP training going.
For the Mac users who can't command + tab your way out of the game try command + control + power button (don't hold down the button), it's the forced restart, wait a bit, it will restart.
For developer: maybe the fact we can see the character creation screen and for some reason also able to correct the blacked out screen has something to do with the bug? Also, back when I was playing Diablo 3, mac NVIDIA 9400m users get much better frame rate when play the game with Boot camp on Windows, when in native apple program is just unplayable. Blizzard patched it up. Could it be the same thing? http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5638004473

We haven't given up on this yet, but so far we've been unable to repro this issue and we no longer have working Macs that fit your specs. The only changes to low level graphics code in Rubicon 1.1 have been to address crashes (or work around driver crashes) so we can't simply revert those - we have to find solutions that work on all the different configs out there.

The only changes to low level graphics code in Rubicon 1.1 have been to address crashes (or work around driver crashes) so we can't simply revert those - we have to find solutions that work on all the different configs out there.
Roger that, I hope there's a fix for this either way (especially since at least some people with newer Mac boxes seem to be having the same trouble) but I appreciate the info. When I read 2009 back to myself and realized it is 2014 I kind of thought it might be time. The plus side is when I do get the new machine I can let my girlfriend use this one. Who knows, maybe she'll play some Counter-Strike or something with me (sadly there's no hope for EVE, she's just not a hardcore gamer). |

The UI freeze issue seems to be unrelated to the graphics configuration. I have gotten it on a Mid 2012 Retina MBP, as well as an earlier MBP, both running 10.9.x, running the EVE Mac client in windowed mode.
All I have to do to repro the issue is load up the client, park my ass in space or in a station, and wait. Sometimes a little, sometimes hours, but eventually the UI will lock up.
IIRC Activity Monitor shows that the app is doing a significant amount of work, so my guess is that it's repeatedly rendering the same frame. Like any honest politician, "My door is always open, and my hand is always out" |

I can get it to hard crash every time (locks up whole computer) simply by opening up the star map.
It's has also done it once when opening the in game browser window.
It's been happening to me since this past Monday, 2/3/14.
So far no trouble logging in and no crashes (at this point) while warping or undocking. If I open the star map. It flickers a couple of times and then crashes like everyone said. You can't do anything but hear music, etc. Apps like TeamSpeak continue to work in the background. Was not able to use keyboard commands to force quit.
Have been playing almost a year with no issues like this. Yes, the machine is old, but worked fine until Rubicon 1.1x. Something changed at that point. I would go back and look into what changed.
Yes, it's time for a new computer (which I wish I could pay for with isk!), however it was running fine until the last major patch. Cashed again this morning as soon as I opened the star map after 2/7/14 patch.

I'm having similar problems to everyone here as well. My client will freeze up (and make my computer fully to partially freeze up) right when the character selection screen should appear. The character selection screen never appears but if I wait until the computer becomes responsive again I can see the cursor change as it moves over the spot where the character selection boxes should be and I am able to choose a character that way. Sometimes the client (and subsequently the computer) will lock up again and I'll have to force quit or restart and sometimes the station loads as usual. Once I've logged in I can play almost normally, sometimes when in space if too many things load grid at once, or if I drop out of warp onto a busy grid, or if I try and move the camera around too fast the client will freeze up for a bit but it usually becomes responsive again after a few minutes.
Before the patch on February 4th I had no issues with Eve. I always play in windowed mode with all the graphics set to minimum. I used to be able to run up to three clients simultaneously but now cannot run more than one (if I'm lucky enough to get it to work).

I think this is appalling. How can you suddenly blame people's hardware when this is clearly an issue from a small patch that was supposed to fix small graphical problems etc. the simple fact is before your patch on the 4th of Feb these supposedly out dated machines were still running the eve client perfectly well.
How do you intend to compensate mac users?

Can get it to lock up any time by switching to an overview with pos mods on it, or other anchorable structures - like cargo containers, mobile depots, etc.
GTX690s on a mac pro. Started with the patch on the 4th.
what's worse is the debugger won't output anything from the process, so have no clue what's going on. Leave those structures off the overview and no probs.

Seems to me that the issue is only present for those of us with Nvidia cards (judging from the replies above and on this thread: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=270356&p=2). The 4th Feb patch notes mention an Nvidia "fix" so I would imagine that is where the problem lies.

A small solution which worked for me to add some longtime skills to the skill training.
I reinstalled the whole program!!!!!!
black screen is still there, but i was able to select my character by clicking the black screen right of the center, where normally the first character would be.
program was running with black screen and music changed to ingame music.
After about 2 minutes....voila... suddenly the normal eve station screen appeared.
I only used it to select a new skill and change some market orders, not tested other game features (undocking...) yet. |

The issue I experience seems to arise when right clicking in space and going to a drop-down menu (such as Asteroid Belts) and there are a TON of options - then the bottom half of my screen flickers black. Having a second account online and clicking there seems to stop it. However when I return to the first account - all the graphics are, for lack of a better term, ****** up. Hitting the ESC menu and back seems to resolve the graphics problem. However I'm still unable to click said item (Asteroid Belt). My machine is using the GeForce 9400m which Dev stated is now below the minimum spec which could mean that this is the end of my EVE career as i cannot afford to replace the entire computer just for the sake of one game (as important as that game might be). Must say i'm a little disappointed - It was announced with Rubicon that the minimum specs had changed however that was some months ago and i had assumed my machine had (just) made the grade. Was willing to sacrifice and drop all my settings to minimum. This however looks like the month i've just paid for (on 2 accounts) will be a complete loss and waste of money and that i will ultimately have to un-sub..... a very sad day for me. |

I have a similar issue on Mac OS 10.6.8.
I log in and launch: it shows the loading box as normal, but I then I get a black screen with a mouse pointer (which I can move). If I Cmd/Shift + Tab and get out of Eve at this point the lower part of the screen is flickering. If I Cmd/Shift + Tab back into Eve I get black and white stripes all over the place. If I don't kill Eve quite quickly the whole machine becomes unresponsive and I have to do a hard reboot.
I don't have great specs, but prior to this problem I could play the game fine most of the time. I have had an occasional issue with freezing, but now I'm consistently unable to get to the character choice screen. |

Generally application code should not be able to this sort of exception - the driver should handle things gracefully even if the app is doing something wrong, and simply return appropriate error codes.
The only changes in low level graphics code in recent patches were to address similar issues in drivers we'd seen under Windows. Often those kinds of fixes simply involve doing things differently - sometimes the old code is perfectly valid (and runs fine on other hardware, with a different driver).
We have a couple of ideas of things we could change that might affect this issue, but the risk is that some of the issues we were trying to fix rear their ugly heads again so we need to test those changes carefully. I'd also really prefer to see a repro case inhouse that we can then use to verify that those changes indeed fix the issue. So far we've been unsuccessful with that - none of the Macs we have exhibit any of those symptoms. Admittedly we do not have one with the 9400m card, but the issue has been reported on the 320m. We do have such a Mac, and the character selection screen shows up fine there (as well as all the other Macs).
There must be more factors involved that we haven't worked out yet - this is too consistent to be random, but it's not just the graphics card. We'll keep digging until we find something. When we do, I'm pretty sure the issue will be fixed on the 9400m as well as the newer cards.

Sometimes at the character, "black-screen-of-death" page you can randomly click around on the black screen and get eve to load. I did that last night and was able to log into the game. The game ran fine once I got in. So, somehow this bug is just affecting the character selection page and no other part of the game. Weird. So, this has to be something with the code associated with events related to only the character selection page.

You tested the other macs for the freezing client locking up computer screen as well? Not just the black screen of death?
I don't have any Blackscreen of death, my client freezes up all the time if I'm in space and many ships are there.
Try testing at the Amarr undock and move the camera around, within a minute the client will freeze up the entire computer screen by flickering. |

Grateful that I don't seem to have it as bad as others. I seem to be able to login OK. I can't play as normal though. I'm not taking any fleets out and risking other players ships, because I can't pull up the map, I can't really go into low or null sec safely.
Today I had my first "right click crash" where right clicking in space was all that was needed to generate another hard crash. I crash 3 or 4 times a day now. Takes out the whole computer. In just about every case for me it happens when a window is being called/opened. Be that a Map window, a web browser window.
I'm also grateful CCP has someone like CCP Snorlax keeping us up to date. We know your working on this. People in this thread have also all been really helpful and for the most part, kept it very positive. As a developer myself I know it makes CCP Snorlax's job much easier when he can focus on the problem and not have to deal with difficult people.
As we approach a full week of major issues that pretty much affects the entire Mac platform, (sure, it's not the largest, but still no less important than other segments) of not of not being able to play as normal, it might be worth considering reverting to the old code that was in place before the problems started? That is ultimately the common thread. Everyone's problems started after the 1.1x patch.
I know that companies set deadlines and goals that need to be met. Sometimes things get pushed out the door before they are ready to meet a deadlines. This may not have been the case here, I am not in a position to know. I just know that sometimes it happens.
While initial efforts to fix the problem are greatly appreciated, at some point there will come a time where it is better to save face and revert to the old code . Resolving the problem in the short term while development continues to fix the code and bring back the latest updates.
I don't know when the point in time is. A week, a week and a half, two weeks? The potential is there for this to become an even bigger customer service issue for CCP. I don't want to see that happen and hope that CCP has a date set, were if you can't resolve the issue, you revert the code (short term fix) and keep that segment of your customer base positive. I would not think negatively of CCP if they did this. On the contrary I think it is the right thing to do.
Having a lot of angry customers who are paying for something and not getting what they are paying for is really bad for any company for so many reasons. CCP has been very responsive and without question has shown to take this issue very seriously. I have nothing but good things to say about their whole approach to the problem. I know they are on our side and while it's only a game, it's still a product / service that we subscribe to and pay for. I'm not asking for my money back. I'm very patient. I just don't want to get to the point were patience runs out, not just for me but for this entire market segment.
So please, set a date if you have not already. A deadline. Where either a solution has been found and deployed or revert the code. Don't just rule it out and say it's not possible. ItGÇÖs not just old Macs that are affected. And while you're at it, hop on Craig's list and go buy a couple old used Macs. In the grand scheme of things, the cost of a couple of old used Macs is far less aggravating an entire segment of your user base.
In the mean time, I'll keep testing the patches and giving you what ever feedback I can and hopefully what I have written here has remained positive like some many other posts before mine.
Thank you for all you are doing to get us fully back up and running, crash free. |

The problem is if the old code was brought back before these problems started happening, the AMD cards will then have an issue. What broke EVE for the Mac users and many other users was fixing the AMD issue.
I encountered this exact problem we are having on TQ when I went onto the Singularity server the night before the 4th Feb patch. So I did find the bug, it was just too late and CCP rolled out the patch.
Though the lots and lots of issues people came across on the 4th of feb patch must have been detectable on the Singularity server, it was detectable for me at least for sure. |

I'm not sure this has to be true. If a link to a pre-Feb4 patch were made available, I could import that patch and all would be well on my system. I don't see how this would have any impact on other user's systems. In the mean time CCP could work on the issue and I would be able to maintain play. |

So this is the third thread started about this issue. Obviously you guys are just so frustrated that you haven't bothered to even see if anyone else has this problem and posted a thread about it. Pretty retarted...
In any case, Snorlax, I really hope you guys figure this one out and appreciate the time you have put in so far investigating the issue. I am not looking foreword to buying a new computer....even though I am a stuck up, snobby hipster mac user, as are we all apparently, and should buy a PC regardless because....well.....MAC's are good for photoshop, music and film production, and thats pretty much it
The issue really is strange; some toons don't even reach login screen without a freeze, and my other toon can fly around in space, until I decide to dock then it freezes. Funny and unbelievably annoying at the same time, kinda like Dane Cook (I think I will name my computer that).
Obviously we all hope the issue is resolved before all else, as I am sure the rest of your dev team agrees, but for those of us who have characters not skilling because of the inability to log in....yeah.......you know what I am going to ask next . I plexed 4 accounts before this issue started, and have had 12 hours of skilling on less than 3 accounts since the error/bug. I'm sure if you were in my position you would understand why I ask.
Can we get some reassurance that we will be taken care of? Like a pat on the back and a methodical "everything will be alright, here is some game time/plex/all of the things?"

Thanks guys, really hope I can play soon!!! |

I was the first one to make a thread about this exact issue. Constently freezing up is a 3 year old thread, therefore I made this one since it's a new issue.
I told other people to post in the blackout issue for the blackout issue since it's not the exact same issue. I have the flicker crash issue.
But I was the first to make a thread for this issue I'm reporting.

To my surprise I was able to enter the game normally this morning. I already thought, that CCP might had solved the problems.
Next log in some hours later again brought the black screen.
Sometimes I am able to click the black screen on my first character and sometimes the game starts after several minutes.

If you go to Amarr and remain on the undock, move the camera around then if it doesn't freeze up within a minute at all, seems you are ok. But it still does the hard flicker crashes on me. |

Regardless of the fact that I am buying a new computer because I am pretty outdated as it stands, I have payed to subscribe without notification that the game may become unplayable for some MAC users. I've had the same issue, and will at the least expect some compensation... I mean, it's not as if the currency is "real" anyway, and it would make all us EvE'ers feel a whole lot better.
Personally, I'd like 20 days of instant skilling. Just pick a skill, and skill up 20 days... Sounds good to me... In Eve, how you use time is worth a whole hell of a lot more than just pure PLEX.
If I receive PLEX for this issue, I'll be forced to start some kind of protest...

We have not had any luck in reproing this, but we have a patch going out tomorrow where we have at least an attempted fix.
I've gone through all changes to the graphics engine that went out in the patch that seems to have triggered the black screen on character select, and we're basically reverting those changes when running on a Mac. We're grasping at straws here, but I feel we have to try something.

If it helps at all I only really get issues with this early morning (7am-11am EST). When I get on at night (6pm-10pm EST) I have yet to have an issue. Doubt that has anything to do with it, but anything I can provide that may help get this fixed sooner I'll provide. |

I'd personally want a PLEX for this issue to make up my time of not making ISK or anything which I planned to do.
Game time for 10 days or what ever just won't make it for me since I wasn't able to access EVE at all.

Even though the specs do not meet minimum requirements, I have been playing with no issues the last 2 years. Issues have arisen after the last few patches.
Before the latest patch I was getting to the character selection screen before my mac would lock up. After the most recent patch my mac goes directly to a black screen and locks up.

This might be a silly question. But have you tried to repro this in windowed mode instead of full screen? Although the predominate error message that scrolls by is Quote:2/10/14 9:02:46.000 PM kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error , one of the errors that rolled by my log screen was, Quote:2/10/14 9:02:46.598 PM Console[504]: setPresentationOptions called with NSApplicationPresentationFullScreen when there is no visible fullscreen window; this call will be ignored. and made me think that perhaps that all of us that are experiencing this are running eve in windowed mode? This bug doesn't really make sense at all..... I have 2 accounts which are running fine, and one which I can not pass the char selection screen. Sometimes I get lucky, and when I time it right, I can enter the Esc menu, exit it again and click randomly into the screen where my chars should be and it logs me in, fine without any issue, sometimes it completely freezes as soon as I should see the char selection screen.... Completely random, no pattern.....
By any chance, did u change anything on the visualization or graphics of the character models? BTW, U have a Cider Client log in a bug report from me, when I was able to bypass the char selection black screen.
Window Mode, all resolutions checked, also full screen mode, even without using the client but directly the Cider in Full screen, still the same issue. |

Hello all,
maybe my experience will help.
I am running EVE Multibox (I mean more than one client simultaneously) on my Mac Mini Late 2009 upgraded with SSD disk and 8GB RAM. My EVE Client is set to lowest graphics in windowed app (no fullscreen)
I have client data cloned to multiple starting icons (done with EVE Clone Maker - https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients#Using_the_EVE_Clonemaker; link to forum - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=17208)) so I am starting directly to login screen (no launcher)
I am experiencing a black window after entering my login credentials and system is not responding for few second.
To complete login I have to click on dark screen in place where is usually character I want to play (1st third from left if I want to play with my last-played character) and then login continues to login normally, usually with no other graphical problems.
Normal start (no clicking on black screen) is taking about 40 minutes. --- Updating EVE: For update I have to use normal launcher for downloading the necessary data.
Today I was not able to download the data and launcher was freezing.
Deleting the cache for EVE helped me: 1.) open Package Content (right click) of your EVE Online client in Applications 2.) go to Content -> Resources -> cache 3.) delete content of this folder 4.) start launcher 5.) start EVE via cloned app
Ping me in game if you will need more details :-) |

Except multi client, that's how I play since yesterday : bypassing launcher, setting turned to window mode, and graphic settings optimized for memory. Then, as you say, I have black screen flickering for few seconds, sometimes I have to select character without seing them and then everything works correctly.
I've just seen there's a new patch... I'm going to try it at once

@ Dark Eirlys: There is a problem with opening the map in stations crashing the client since dec2012 (yes 2012!). Now they are at least working on the "new" bugs, give them some time. Maybe they will come up with a solution that keeps eve playable for at least another month (or year) or so. That would be worth the wait, wouldn't it? |

Just a wild guess but is it possible that maybe an update with Java or Flash Player is contributing in this issue since not all MACs are being affected? Not everyone always updates their version Flash or Java whenever a new version is availableGǪ |

An update:
After the reinstall did not work, I tried to move my EVE Online folder, within the Library > Application Support folder, to the trash and run the game. That creates a new EVE folder. Now, I log in and the game completely crashes immediately. Can't command + alt + escape anymore, I now have to completely turn my computer off every time I start EVE. So, it made the issue worse. This "fix" is what was recommended to me via support ticket.
I tried to move the folder from trash back into the Application Support folder to overwrite the new folder created when I tried this fix, but that did not work as I received the error message: The operation canGÇÖt be completed because the item GÇ£wineserver-Scotts-MacBook-Air.local-scottleonardGÇ¥ is in use. This was also recommended by the support ticket.
Now, I will be unable to update my skills. Before, I could not play the game, but I at least could update my skills as long as I did it in under 30 - 60 seconds.
This has been happening on all 3 of my accounts since around February 2nd. 9 x 3 = 27 days. 27 days of USD paid game time wasted. |

I found a good repro for the massive graphic flickering issue (which may be related to the freezes, or may not, but it's certainly waaaaay worse in 1.1). I've bugreported it, but in brief:
If you bring up a killmail, and then **RAPIDLY** move the mouse up and down over the items in the Fitting and Content list items, other graphic elements (the character portrait, the ship icons, etc) will flicker in a very similar manner to the big flickering on on character selection page. No clicking is required, just mouse movement (and the associated hilighting of items in the list)
HOWEVER, if you move the mouse up and down more slowly, no flickering will occur. One possibility is that it requires multiple state changes per rendered frame to trigger this behavior. Like any honest politician, "My door is always open, and my hand is always out" |

My launcher crashed today and froze for the second time since Rubicon 1.1 launch. First time was early last week. I ended up redownloading the whole client. I thought not being able to play then, for an entire evening was unusually frustrating while waiting for the client to download. That really says a lot.
If I had to do it again today. I won't say I'd quit Eve, but I would stop playing and paying until the issues were resolved. Don't get me wrong. I see CCP Devs in the forums and it's obviously they are working hard on a fix. The weird thing is this, I feel like I'm kind of stuck in some crazy country music song played backwards. Now that I'm not playing Eve, my dog came back, my wife's home again, even got my pick up truck running.
All joking aside, thanks to Luke Egdald, I was able to clear the cache and my launcher is working once again, downloading the latest patch (and ever hopeful all our crashing issues are behind us). Very grateful I did not have to go through downloading the client again! Thanks Luke! |

Today's Patch seems to work. I was able to undock, warp through gates and back with no game freeze issues. The game graphic settings I left as is, since some report altering them did not improve the situation. Whatever CCP did with today's Patch worked, though I am still curious to know what last week's (Feb. 4, 2014) Patch did to screw with the MAC version of EVE. |

Downloaded the patch just now and there is no change whatsoever.
I run the eve launcher, login and enter the program. It begins to load the hanger and freezes. I cannot force quit, I must turn off my entire computer.
My original problem, as I stated, was that after a short period of gameplay everything would "lock up." By lock up, I mean that i could not warp, dock, turn on modules, lock items. I could still spin the camera, move the mouse over items and have the cursor change, and sometimes even open up boxes (character screens, mail) but the boxes would never load, they would simply open up with no content within them.
After I followed the eve support ticket's instruction, also stated above, the client now simply freezes upon opening the game.
Just wanted to clarify my specific issue that I believe others here also have. I have never received a black screen. When my client freezes, the graphics stay up, they just do not progress. |

I noticed I crashed when I putted my mouse over the lots of ships and station in space. Maybe this is the cause of the flicker freeze?

I run version 10.7.5 of Mac OS X from a MacBook Air. Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB.
Another update:
I turned off load station environment and turned my graphical settings to low. This actually allowed me to get past the initial loading when logging on. Everything seemed to be working, but again after about 5 minutes of gameplay, I ran into my initial problem. Client locks up, cannot turn off/on modules, warp, dock, chat, etc. So, I have come full circle.
I would advise people to try to make these same edits to their graphical settings and see if it gets them past freezing. I still can't play the game but at least I can update my skills.

Worst case, CCP may just say to us that Anything of 330M or below is no longer supported anymore since it's the 330m, 320m and 9400m receiving problems. Shame really I hope it doesn't go that far since I paid for a sub only just recently and I'd really hate to stop playing EVE after playing for almost 2 years with no problems.
Lets just really hope CCP finds a fix to this first. Or tell them to reverse everything to before the 1.1 Rubicon patch. |

So I broke down and setup my other Mac, which is a mac mini, to run Eve.
The Mac Mini has an Intel HD 3000 graphics card installed as opposed to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 on my Mac Pro. On the Mac Mini I get to the character selection screen, am able to select a character and the UI almost loads completely. While the game is loading, the word "LOADING" phases in and out on the screen but after a minute or so, the word stops phasing and the computer locks up just like on my mac pro. On the Mac Pro I get to the character selection screen and it locks up there before I can select a character.
So the games progresses further on the Mini than on the Pro but in the end they both need hard resets.

Yeah I can progress into the game but in space I get the flicker crashes. I seem to progress further but just can't fly in space.

I snagged the system log files during the crash, they seem pretty similar to the other log files that have been posted:

After this failure I was forced to hardboot, cmd+option+shift+esc couldn't recover, as well as cmd+option+esc.
I'll search the web to see if there's any kind of update or patch for OpenGL on our graphics card. It's hitting a parse error which shouldn't be too hard to fix some data is not being handled correctly so yeah maybe there's an update we're all missing for some reason. |

Thing is the person above said he is getting lock ups with an Intel HD 3000 graphics card as well, so for some reason it doesn't seem it's an Nvidia problem. Maybe it has something to do with OpenGL. |

What I realized is, the longer I wait for selecting a char when loading finishes, the worse it gets, so when I quickly press Esc and go out of this menu again, and then click into the back screen where the chars should be, it logs me in without any issue, can play, undock do anything. But as soon as I wait in the char selection screen for longer then 5-10 sec then it is over.
I will try to reproduce the graphic issue again later, but I think the char selection screen start a call which ends in an endless loop causing this, the only way to circumwent this is to get as fast out of the char selection screen as possible. The question is which call is it which the char selection screen starts causing this bug. |

So just reporting the patch today had zero effect for me.. Get to the character selection screen and it's just black. Noted a few people talking about blind clicking to activate a character but that seems impossible for me.. Tried and nothing. In the interest of trying to help CCP find the problem is there some othe commonality to the problem aside from the fact we all have older graphics cards.
I have 3 characters. Does everyone having the same black screen issue have 3 or something else?
My set up:
Osx 10.9.1 2009 iMac 2.66GHz intel core 2 duo 4Gb ram NVDIA GeFOrce 9400 with 256MB
All working fine until last Monday? Patch

OK found a way in.
Have reported it to CCP maybe will help fix it properly.
So bypass the launcher by right clicking your normal eve start up ion, choose show package contents-->contents-->-->resources should be a familiar looking eve icon. Double click and you have the 'old' launch screen where you put your log in details at the bottom.
Then you will get the lovely black screen of death but now you can 'blind click' on where your character would be the familiar sounds go off in the background.
Wait....
Still a black screen BUT now alt-tab back to your desktop (which before I could not do using normal launcher)
THEN
alt-tab back to Eve and you should get your station environment, if its like mine it is horribly messed up - you can see your ship but the station is a horrible gold artefact...BUT undock, everything looks OK,,,,re-dock and everything is back to the way it used to be,
Not perfect but at least you can get in and update training plans, market orders, etc, etc.
The game is still there & messing around gets you in which proves the problems must be fixable - something to do with method calls at start up that are throwing the Nvdia cards into a loop.
Finally happy after being without Eve for a week & a half. !! |

Yeah all these solutions to just 'get us into eve' and we can't even fly in space properly still

I have still the problem (or even worse)
While I was able to play eve by blindclicking on the black character screen, the game loaded after several minutes. Strange, that till today-¦s patch one account worked completely normal (same computer, same programm .... so WTF!!!)
Today, every account is showing the black character screen, while my prime account crashes after character blind selection.... no play possible any more with my prime. |

I can confirm that!
mbp with nvidia,
my main char's profile pic was recently updated, if i select that game crashes. i have other 2 chars on the same account (caldari & gallente) with old profile pics, I can play with them without any trouble.
graphic settings are the very same.

Yep, same here. Main character was working sort of until the current situation where its freeze and lock-up IF one can get the bloody launcher to work. As far as my second character is concerned, couldn't even get past the logging in pages. I would like to know how many thousands of players paying tens/hundreds of thousands of dollars/pounds/euros in REAL money into this game are being affected by this. It seems to me that CCP is NOT doing as much as it could do. The fixes that have been proposed to me by regulators, game devs and moderators have all failed and it appears that right now, CCP is behaving like a headless chicken in respect of finding a solution to a clearly major problem. Sort it out guys, and then REFUND US!!!! |

I'll second that. This iteration of Rubicon is a FAIL for anyone playing on Mac. I'm sick to death of the frustration already. |

Tar-Palantir too has been having this problem repeatedly on one of his two Macs. The Fall 2009 iMac he has repeatedly suffers from this problem while his Spring 2008 Mac Pro with an EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 does not. The specific iMac model is iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) .
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP576
Tar-Palantir has replicated these problems on 2 different iMacs of that model. Both were purchased at the same time in the same batch of 70 some iMacs. The problems have happened in Mac OS X 10.6.8 and in Mac OS X 10.7.5 . He is working on getting a copy of 10.9.1 installed to test under, but that isn't done yet. Tar-Palantir has installed Mac OS X 10.7.5 from scratch on a blank partition with no imported accounts (i.e. all settings etc started from scratch). Tar-Palantir has also wiped the settings folders manually (~/Library/Application Support/EVE Online and any Eve, CCP, and Cider related plist files in ~/Library/Preferences - not sure any of those are actively used anymore, but had 1 or 2 still laying around) when using local accounts that already had Eve settings. Have also tried copying a Eve settings folder tree from the working Mac Pro to the non-working iMacs. The Eve client was freshly copied over from the Mac Pro where it works fine. Have not been able to install a fresh client - lack the bandwidth for such a download. In all cases/testing, the results have been similar. If you launch the Eve client from the Launcher, it launches the main Eve client, you get the 3 different loading bars as it authenticates, loads bulk data, and the 3rd load, it then goes to a black black screen when the character selection screen should load. In 10.7.5 you can hear the character selection screen music playing. If Tar-Palantir blindly clicks in the right spot, he can get a character to load and can hear it load in station. The screen remains black. If you directly launch the Eve Client from inside of the application bungle, you get the old school Eve client login screen. You authenticate there, and after that, the results are the same as the launcher. Loading bars, followed by a blank black character selection screen. If you put the client into Windowed mode before logging in, you get the black loading screen inside of the Eve client window when it gets to loading the character selection screen, but the rest of the screen flashes in patterns of black as well. You can still click outside of the Eve client window and interact with some elements, but your graphics layer is fundamentally corrupt and will eventually stop responding if you don't kill the Eve client. In all of the above, you may or many not be able to force quit the Eve client. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. Using command line UNIX "kill" via a remote ssh session is equally hit or miss. If it doesn't work, ps shows the Eve client process in U (uninterruptible) status.

During this, /var/log/system.log doesn't show anything particularly interesting beyond the Eve launcher launching and doing its thing. However, there is quite a bit in /var/log/kernel.log (if you are running Mac OS X 10.7.5). Below is a selection from one of those events when running Mac OS X 10.7.5. It repeats over and over a couple of cycles per second.

Applied the Feb. 13 Eve client patch. The entries in /var/log/system.log Identify it as: EVE Client version 8.41 build 719324 starting
Applied it to 2 different iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) . Tech specs of this model can be seen here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP576
Launched the Eve client under both Mac OS X 10.7.5 and Mac OS X 10.6.8. Launched in Windowed and full screen modes. All launches were done via the Eve Launcher. The results were the same as previous reported - blank black screen at character selection. If in windowed mode, the entire screen with flashing/flickering black across most of the screen. The results line up with those reported in Tar-Palantir's previous post - #205.
Looking over /var/log/system.log, Tar-Palantir was incorrect stating that only the Eve Launcher dumped information into that log file. There is indeed a batch of entries at the launch of the Eve client itself. A series of 40-50 lines as different services start - as an example:
Feb 12 20:03:40 LSs-iMac [0x0-0x6006].com.ccpgames.eveonline[146]: Service sessionMgr: 0.000s Feb 12 20:03:41 LSs-iMac [0x0-0x6006].com.ccpgames.eveonline[146]: Service settings: 0.022s Feb 12 20:03:41 LSs-iMac [0x0-0x6006].com.ccpgames.eveonline[146]: Service dataconfig: 0.092s
Looking thru the entries, don't seen anything anomolous or error entries - neither on previous days with previous patch versions or today with the new patch version.

I really hope this issue gets fixed tomorrow, I've not flown or PVP'd or anything in EVE for over a week.
If it is an OpenGL issue, maybe changing the interval settings... I'll give it a try.
EDIT: Interval settings and multithreading changes nothing. |

These 3 threads above also report the exact same issue, NOT using EVE.
Something must be triggering this caused by the Nvidia cards. And it isn't just first encountered in EVE Online.
I've managed to cause my freeze flickers by putting my mouse over multiple ships at one area quite frequently. |

The specific problems you and others are experiencing, may be "exclusive to the 20m, 330m, 320m, 9400m and 9600m" in YOUR(s) cases. But there is something else going on also. OTHER cards have reported similar graphics issues. In my case, I have NEVER had any graphics issues whatsoever with either of my two different graphics cards, outside of EVE. The issues in this thread appear to have started with specific patches although its possible that people who have 20m, 330m, 320m, 9400m and 9600m cards have had some of these or other graphics issues before the new patches, as outlined on Apples website. The newest patches seem to call on routines that are making these issues apparent across many graphics cards. |

I am going to give CCP until the end of the month to make some progress on this issue. After that point, I am going to request a full refund on the remaining, plus february, game time on all 3 of my characters. That is about 2 years of paid game time.
I'd like to continue playing the game, but don't want to have money sitting idle in game time through EVE, when it is not working, that I could spend elsewhere. If this happens and I do receive my money back, I will continue monitoring the progress of this problem. If and when the problem is rectified, I will then rejoin the game. I don't enjoy giving CCP an ultimatum, but I also do not want my money sitting in a game that I cannot play when it can be better spent. |

I'd like to add my voice to this. I've also turned everything down to low settings. Rebooted my machine. Made it the only application running.
Still I have to 'force quit' and restart every 10 to 20 minutes. Something is definitely not right. I'd be happy to run a debug build to help if that helps.
CCP - please, please do something about this. I've lost two ships because of this bug already and it's starting to p**s me off.

I'll second that. This iteration of Rubicon is a FAIL for anyone playing on Mac. I'm sick to death of the frustration already. So not true. I use a 330M and have zero issues. For me this has been the most stable, best performing Mac build Ive seen in 6 years of play.
I assume you all have tried deleting the eve file in application support? I find that if there is an issue affecting one account but not others, then deleting that file can clear it. (The file gets re-created by the client the first time you run it. This also meas ALL your settings are gone.) Also that file is not fixed by either the repair tool or even by downloading a new client. So if its bugged, your only option is to toss it and let the client build a new one. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

It seems a little obvious that its an issues with some communication between EVE graphics and NVIDIA (at least on my computer) since the only graphics change was in the Feb. 4th patch and all was operating normally before that fateful patch. Why is it so hard to issue a deprecated patch? Why is my support ticket not being answered since Feb. 4th? I've been playing this game since 2007 and I don't recall a time when I have this much lag in a critical game-play bug. Trying my best not to turn this thread into an unhelpful gripe fest, but I think I'm loosing that battle. |

Please CCP, buy a few used macs for testing, they're not that expensive. 2 or 3 of each (mini, mbp and imac) with different osx (from 10.6.8 to newest) and nvidia graphics (there's the problem, i guess), starting with 2008, 2009 or 2010. Maybe this could help understanding the issue. Also, there must be some sort of compensation for macusers who lost SP or ships. I lost a few hundred millions because of not playing, not a great deal, but not funny either. |

I'd just like to direct everyone's attention to this thread on running the windows version of EVE through Wine rather than relying on the official (Cider-based) Mac client. It's pretty easy to set up even if you've never used wine before, and it sounds like performance is significantly better than with the official client. I'm currently updating Wine to the latest release and will then try and see if I can avoid this black screen/freezing issue in this way, I will report back when I know. |

I would very much like to know if my computer becomes officially unsupported by CCP as soon as possible. I really do not want to buy a new computer but I will if y'all officially give up on solving this problem and that's what it takes. Is there any other way I can update my training queue other than installing EVE on a computer that works? The GeForce 9400m is technically below our minspec (see http://www.eveonline.com/faq/client-system-requirements/) so it might be time to get a new computer.
The windows client (bootcamp) don't have problem, I've noticed a strange thing, wuen the client freeze and the entire system crash after re-booth the launcher loose all setting and login character disappear. |

Wow, I was just about to post a response that the latest patch fixed something, and then my character got perma-frozen in space.
Today I was able to make a new character (finally made it through Character Creation without freezing at the final step). I flew around for a good 3 hours on two different characters.
As soon as I flew to one specific system, I froze, and continue freezing every time I log in. It seems like it might be due to some graphic such as a star in that system. I also froze once earlier due to mousing over an asteroid belt dropdown.
Fingers crossed... now my character can't skill or market =/ |

soooo no fix, huh? over 2 days and still can't access the game. can't access it from the desktop launch icon, can't access it by bypassing the normal launch via the 'show package contents' > 'contents' > 'resources' route using the old launcher. in the first instance my launcher freezes requiring a force quit, in the 2nd i'm instructed i require a 17.5 meg download but the is corrupted. it's not the mac, that's a 2013. it's that last patch. it simply broke access.
i appreciate the complexity of your creation but 2+ days (more in some cases) is a long time for a fix. |

The sad part in all of this is that I came from Dust to escape the game issues there, only to deal with hard resets and black screens, frozen character login, ETC. on my mac and I'm still in the trial period losing days upon days.... I doubt that this game is even worth the purchase... Back to Dust for now until the situation is rectified... Oh and they lied about that patch fix on the client character login... Just saying. |

They are obviously trying to fix the issue and Devs are posting in the forum about it and askng for information etc. I know it's been over a week but I don't think it's helpful turning this thread into a gripe fest or a whine for compensation. We're all frustrated with the problem since rubicon 1.1 and I bet the Dev team are too, it's their 'baby' after all. This bug seems to be particularly frustrating as it's not effecting all Macs or even all accounts on the same Mac. When there's a solution CCP will, I am sure, find a way of making everyone feel compensated and happy with the game once more. Until then it'd be nice to think we're supporting the Dev team and each other in our forced hiatus from the game.

Phloebas wrote:They are obviously trying to fix the issue and Devs are posting in the forum about it and askng for information etc.
Point taken about not becoming a whine fest, but come on, this is getting ridiculous. I can log in occasionally with one of my characters, but the other account just goes to black screen and locks up my laptop completely. CCP does not have a great record for reimbursing lost game time, ISK, ships, skilling, etc. I understand the need to be patient to a degree and hope for a fix, but really, how can they release new iterations of Rubicon that are clearly not properly beta tested? I have lost hours and hours of time that could be better spent trying to get the bloody thing to run and am getting more and more frustrated by the apparent lack of progress in putting this right. |

Since technically I'm below spec I'm buying a new computer - if that doesn't help I guess I'll have to quit EVE (and warn other Mac users against joining). That did not work for me...... Saw the Eve movie again and then had to restart my Mac when I could not get out of Eve and the black screen of death
And exactly the same for me.... Again. If this is such a perfect build for Mac Users, how come there are so many of us in the sh** right now? |

And if you read the other forum thread of Black Screening, CCP has managed to get an executable reproduce of the issue and patched it onto Singularity. We should see this being patched onto Tranquility on Monday or Sunday.
Yes, CCP could have possibly did improvements to more easily reproduce the issue but they did try their best. Having an issue which isn't reproducable and having it difficult to fix isn't easy.
And I've been denied reimbursement for my ship lost due to this issue. I really hope CCP manages to look and reimburse us all due to this issue not producing any server receivable information therefore. Hopefully we can somehow get reimbursement.
By the way, login to Singularity server, test if it works for you. It works for me, CCP needs more results from their users that this SiSi patch is confirmed working for us. |

when the bug first appeared i waited about a week to disappear, it didn't.
then i made sure everything is fine on my side, reinstalled the os and the client.
then opened a ticket to inform ccp there's a problem, which is ignored ever since.
the last time i contacted csr they told me the forum gets more attention, so i turned to the forum.
today, i made an application to the bug hunter crew, and i'm on singularity right now testing. works like it should, i hear the 'autopilot jumping' voice from the minimized windowed client.
so i don't know how to get your attention but i wanna help, if you don't reach out, at least don't ignore the help. and i get it when people get edgy about it, because they pay for it to decrease the ammount of frustration in their lives, not to increase it. and i've got no illusions about compensation either, but prove me wrong. |

I play on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8.
Last week I experienced issues at load which impacted the graphic at the character screen.
This week the game has frozen and required a hard reboot every time I have tried to play following the most recent patch.
Is CCP working on this issue? I've seen what looks like a few weeks of posts around the topics but it's hard to tell. |

Yes. Look at the previous posts. As you said, there have been days and days of posts regarding this topic mainly on this thread and this thread. They implemented a patch on the Singularity test server. I believe that patch is working on most or all of our systems, perhaps. It sounds like that patch will be implemented on the main server (Tranquility) on Tuesday. |

All, check your graphics settings in the energy saver preferences. Next to "graphics", you should have it set to "Higher Performance". Some (but not all) of you might have been locked out by a bug in your affecting your internal graphics card (like myself) which you didn't know you were running on and that you shouldn't be running eve on anyway. I believe some OS system default to better battery life. |

Yes, it will also fix your freeze problem. I've tested this on the SiSi server and not had a single lockup/freeze unlike I'd usually have.
So this patch will fix the black screen issue and freeze flickers. |

I've found a workaround for Wspacers who are warping to a POS (like me). It works only for a few minutes! 1. Disable "close the EVE launcher after starting EVE online" in the launcher settings 2. Enter game 3. when it starts flickering (when you arrive at the POS), force quit EVE asap 4. click play on the launcher (quick, you must be) 5. When you enter the game, you should stay inside the force field 6. warp out of force field to a safe spot, don't try planets, moons, holes,....
now you can, at least, inject skills. It works only for a few minutes, be quick! When the great game of chess is over, kings and pawns end in the same box. |

Ugh, this patch did not help me at all. I thought this thread (and the other one like it) were originally posted to describe a primarily IN-GAME issue with freezing. Now it seems that the black screen on start-up is fixed, but the actual reason for a number of these threads is still present.
Today I logged on, hoping to dock a the station I DC warp to every time I log in and start skilling up again. Unfortunately, I received the black screen flicker -> freeze before being able to dock.
I did notice that today I made it "past" a few flickers before one really caught on and slammed my screen to a halt.
Clearly there are still issues present due to the Feb 4th patch.
I will try and file logs as soon as possible, but I'm not quite sure whether I will be able to due to the forced force-quit of the application. |

I have been stuck in the same place (warping into a station) for the past few days. I thought it might be the graphics of the station crashing my game.
I opened the star map upon login and my character successfully warped to the station and did not crash (perhaps because the graphics never loaded to my screen) and I was able to dock up.

And it is the station graphics causing the crash, specifically, Gallente station number 5 (Industrial) ! Props to the mac guy in dodixie that clued me into that, my crash was on the same type. |

Prior to this fix I was unable to login at the character screen, which I am now able to do. Eve has been unplayable for me for nearly the entire month of February. |

For anyone experiencing something similar, try using your star map as a sort of Perseusian anti-Medusa. I've been having the same issue. Progress of some sort then? I've been stuck outside Dodixie Fed Navy Assembly Plant for three days now. Gonna give the star map sketch a go. But honestly, is this what it's come down to....? Please CCP, do something about this, it's gone past ridiculous now! |

Petition CCP under the 'stuck' category and explain that a bug is causing you to crash there. CCP should be able to move you to another station of a different type within the next hour or so since it's a high priority category. |

Well what do ya know!!!! This actually worked, inferring of course that this is a coding issue of some kind when we are in specific environments in the Eve Universe. CCP, please take note and act .

Yes it's the cause to this flicker freezing now. I haven't experienced it elsewhere and so it seems no one else has. |

Does this happen on any Assembly Plant? Or just some specific ones? |

It's any station that's got the model Gallente station 5 ( I can't remember if the type shows up in the overview as Gallente station 5, or Gallente Industrial station ).
You can crash at any one of them when it first gets loaded / comes into view - tested that in various systems. |

Glad I can access this thread again, it had disappeared from the Macintosh section for awhile. I see that other threads are still missing.
I still cannot play EVE. The client continues to freeze and lock up. I have yet to see any progress whatsoever.
Day 16 or 18 for me. I'm losing track of how long.
Looks like the new patch has caused even more problems for some people. Nice. |

This is a pay to play game, and it would only be right to compensate the individuals who lost a considerable amount of time due to this glitch.
Personally, I was unable to play from the 4th to the 18th. All I'm asking for is the choice between ISK/PLEX, or 14 days worth of instant skilling.
If that's asking too much, please tell me. However, we all pay to play EvE, and compensating the players with something on par with what was lost is only right.
I would choose the 14 days of instant skilling; time means more to me than ISK/PLEX. |

Before anyone starts demanding repayment: How can CCP determine, beyond any reasonable doubt, that you could not in fact log in, and are not just someone who happened to be on vacation for the period in question and is taking advantage of free SP or PLEX by lying?
After all only a few Mac users were affected. No Mac at CCP was. I was not. So they cannot just blanket give credit to everyone. How do they determine who is a valid recipient? http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Determining who was effected, and who is simply trying to get some free stuff is unbelievably easy to determine. One of many things CCP can do is check the login times, and the activity of the players who reported a problem. Also, I filed one of maybe 2 bug reports since I've been playing EvE, and the report was filed the day of the flickering glitch.
Furthermore, I PAY to play this game. I don't make enough ISK to play for free. Second, I'm not demanding anything... I'm making a suggestion. So, stop your brown nosing, stop trolling, and make sure you read the entire thread before you call someone a liar... |

But what about some one who did have the problem, but is simply not a forum poster? They could not log in, but never reported it as an issue. How would they get their credit? And how would CCP tell them apart form someone who was just on vacation and decided to take advantage when the announcement went out? Their log in history would look identical: neither logged in during the time in question.
To be fair CCP would need to give credit to everyone who had the issue, irrelevant of if they posted in the forums or make a bug report. How do they figure out who to give it to? http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Just wanted to chime in and say that I'm also stuck outside a Fed Navy Assembly Plant, specifically the one in Dodixie. I get the same crazy graphical flashes and then everything freezes up. I was really hoping that the Mac client would be stable for more than a couple of days. I've only been able to log in since Tuesday. |

As soon as you log in hit F10 to open your starmap. This should let you get away from the station without freezing. It's worked for me and at least one other player in this thread. |

Mine started freezing after about 10 seconds of doing anything (start on 02/04/2014) but finally stopped freezing once I changed the graphic settings for Performance (Settings - Display & Graphics - Graphic Content Settings - Optimize Settings - Optimize Settings for Performance - Apply). Since then I have been able to play without issues on my Mac mini. |

I still can't play EVE for more than 10 or so minutes, not since February 2 or 4, can't remember the exact day anymore.
My last contact with support was when I asked for a refund. That was over a week ago. I have not heard anything back. What's going on? I can't play the game or get my money back? |

Multiple freezes daily. I am playing in windowed mode. Am used to the Mac freezes as Eve has always been like this but the other night the IU froze as I warped into a Lvl 4 Mission.
I got to sit back and watch my ship be devoured as I was powerless to use any part of the IU for defense. That was a joyous first.
I quit playing Eve a couple years ago and just started back last month. And had hoped that the Mac issues would be better. Not.
Put in a ticket. Still waiting. But not holding my breath. |

It's probably a combination of certain hardware and OS (or rather driver) versions.
Anyway, hopefully this issue is fixed now!
