I hope the OP doesn't mind - I extended the background for a 4:3 aspect ratio for the lazy peeps who wanted to put it on the windows wallpaper but CBA with the aspect tinkering to get it working on a normal monitor.

Is it intended to be any particular battle in the prime fiction (can't think of one where all 4 factions are there, I'm sure we'll see one come factional warfare)?
Is there a little backstory, however fan-fictional, to this particular fight - who is bombarding what planet on the left, are the gallente around (clearly a Naglfar sploding in the distance, and lots of cal/amarr on the right), that sort of thing?

Unfortunately, i am not a writer and i won't pretend to be
It is in the near future. Amarr, Caldari and Minmaturds are present (was going to have gallente as well but time contraints). Basically, the Minmatar are invading an Amarr system. They are bombarding the moon and planet.
Caldari are just there because they are overpowdered.

I've ballparked a maximum figure around 100 hours although i'm not sure. I've been working on this in my spare time. I actually started this back in December but then i went on holiday for 2months..really started drilling on it this week after putting aside ebil bf2

Very nice work.
If you're interested in a back story, Meridius, I'd suggest running a competition to see who can write the best history for it and then choosing the one you like best.
Give an idea of what is going on/what action should be written about and a maximum word count for entries. The prize would be being chosen as the 'official' back story for the image.

I used photoshop. I haven't checked how many layers it is since most of the layers are embedded in layer sets. I would imagine around 700layers tho

meridius, may I suggest posting this on the www.cgtalk.com forums? thats a massive outlet for alot of talented digital artists (shared with the likes of shrek creators etc) and it can only do wonders for eve's exposure (as well as your own). if you cbf making an account I'd happily post this for you and obviously include full credits to the original artist.

The working res was 5400x2636 It's not something that was rendered so any upsizing will result in a loss of quality.
Currently dealing with CCP about possible distribution so hopefully we can get some prints rolling out SoonÖ

Btw, on a related note: The posters available in the EVE Online Store are beautiful and absolutely perfect except that they are a bit too small. (And although they appear to be very high quality, they are probably too expensive for many people.)
Would CCP please consider releasing these posters in a larger size (even if perhaps slightly lower quality) still suitable for framing?
I, for one, would buy every one of them.

There actually not posters. There photographs and thats why there pretty expensive. Imagine how big a photo of yourself would be if you blew it up to the size of the largest poster. And how expensive.
And as for a high quality print, if you live in the US DL the highest res he has and then take it to Fedex kinkos or some places that does presenetations. They should be able to print it out in a large size and make it glossy. Although it will cost you a decent amount.

Yes, I agree with you on all counts. And, coincidentally, the Kinkos method is precisely what I have planned to do, in light of the lack of full-size posters available, though I would rather be sending my money to CCP than Kinkos.
(Btw, a legal aside: I believe it is fully legal to printout individual EVE screenshots (for personal use) under the "fair use" provision of copyright law.)

Yeah now that you've felt free to show off the poster and sell it, CCP, how about making the planets not look so shoddy so that the game actually somewhat resembles the poster art...I mean, really, they look like poorly drawn circles in Photoshop.
Eve FTW overall obviously, but X3: Reunion has planets drawn beautifully and while most of Eve looks decent despite the engine's age, planets look pathetic to be frank about it.

i wanted this as a full sized poster. i really really wanted it. so i wound up taking the biggest resolution to my nearby Kinkos and had it made up. for those that are interested:- take file to Kinkos, or have them download from this thread
- have them print it off on a laser plotter at 26x50 inches
- ask for all the white edges to be trimmed down to the black
- have them do a matte lamination
with the following results (note, the pictures do not in anyway showcase the quality of the finished poster. it will look like a professionally created poster, and the richness of the color and the clarity with NO pixelization is unreal):
Linkage
This with a standard size envelope held up to the poster for a size comparison

ok, this is how the world of eve should be. 2 very large allainces, fighting it out.... and the best part is that that world that the enemy is glassing belongs to the other allaince's forces....now, wouldnt that kick rear... but honestly, i personaly would love to see that in in the game, but then again, the server would have to reconvered into one big systen, so the game wont crash..as much.

Meridius will never release the full resolution copy to the public.
The only people that have it are CCP which used it in EON for the poster.

Hopefully, CCP wont frack up, EVE will live; eventually it will add atmospheric flight, planetary installations, sovereignty, space bombardment (planetary bombardments from space, that is) ... Hamsters will be given steroids to allow real 1000 vs. 1000 battles, and EVE will be like that...
