Edited by: Shamis Orzoz on 04/05/2006 18:58:04 There are some very serious flaws/bugs in the game right now that need fixing asap. I've filed bug reports on several of these issues months ago, and nothing has happened. Hopefully CCP will acknowledge that these need fixing as soon as possible.
1) Logout while cloaked - This flaw in the logout timer system is regularly exploited by freighter pilots across eve (at least for those who can't fly a carrier yet...see below). If you log a ship out before anybody can aggro you then your ship will just disappear seconds later. Not a problem for normal ships, but for capital ships this is an I win button. Solution: If a ship is aggro'ed at any time before it disappears it will be flagged for 15 minutes. 2) Logout/Emergency Warp in Interdiction Sphere - Eve is full of runners and stab *****s. Interdictors were supposed to be the solution. But pilot jumps/warps into an interdiction sphere, all they have to do is log out. Then sabatage their warp at login and they can safely continue on their journeys. Solution: Make interdiction spheres work like mobile warp disruptors, logging out doesn't warp you out of the bubble.
3) Skiff + Carrier - Ever wonder why nobody uses indies in 0.0 anymore? This is why. ALL valuables are transported in and out of 0.0 in carriers now. Minerals, expensive mods etc etc. 0.0 and low sec trade runs are also a joke now. This needs Fixing ASAP. 225k cargo space on a carrier is BROKEN. Solution: Increase the unpackaged size of a skiff, and any other ship that can be used for this.
4) Carrier "Bag of Holding" Exploit - I can't go into detail here, but this is a SERIOUS bug that needs fixing. Infinite cargo space is a bit broken, don't you think? If you haven't figured this one out yet CCP, feel free to contact me.
5) Lack of a proper inter-gang locking system - This is the main reason why "healing" cannot be an effective role in eve. There are all sorts of remote modules in eve, from ECCM projectors, to remote armor reps and shield transfers etc. Many of these mods would be very useful in mid sized battles, but they can't be used properly for 2 main reasons. There is no easy mechanism to active these modules on friendly ships without accidentally shooting them. I'm sure some of you will think that a skilled pilot can avoid doing this, but that is NOT the case. In any medium sized fight, if you try to activate your weapons on a ship that is about to warp out, or a ship that is about to explode your guns will automatically activate on the next target you have locked. There is also no easy way to lock friendly targets unless you have them on your overview, which isn't a smart thing to do in a large fight. Solution Add a better mechanism for locking gang mates, and add a separate lock category for targets that you don't want to auto-switch back to when the primary target goes down.
The last item is more of an enhancement than the rest, but I included it because it is necessary to make a large chunk of modules useful in combat. The first 4 items are doing extensive damage to the economy and the combat system of EVE.

Yeah, because 100% safe transport of an INFINITE amount of cargo does not disrupt the game at all. Right?

To fix #5 you just need a friendly lock option: right click on locked portrat and check frindly lock option. You get a green box around the target and it simply won't allow you to activate any modules that would cause concordocken on that target.
Simple fix, no fancy gang commands or uber complicated menu selections you need to try to do in a fight, just a right click on and right click off again option and surly it can't be that hard to implement.

Read, please, it does not break the game in the same degree as the others.
But by saying that, alternative accounts with freighters in npc corporation is also breaking the game, tho people seem to disagree to restrict freighter use to npc corporation members.

funny that you mention this, given your sudden urge to log out in your pod in azn in my dictor sphere when you jumped through
what would be nice for spheres is that they actually work on occasion, that arnt bugged by other spheres or anchored bubbles being in the same grid.
The emergency warp should be changed so that your ship decloaks and waits 15 seconds, maybe 30 before warping off, and the pvp timer for your ship should be extended to 30-40minutes to take account of the freighters that log off after jumping.

I can't comment on #4, because I don't know what he's talking about. But arguably, #3 is working nearly as it was intended. Using a carrier + skiffs to transport hundreds of thousands of m3 of cargo isn't even near 100% safe. You've got to set up a cyno still, and that's 5-10 minutes worth of time that gankers can set themselves up to intercept the guy. Plus, think of the investment lost if you screw up: Carrier and mods (~1.5bn) + 50X Skiffs (2.5bn) = 4bn ISK lost on a ship that doesn't have siege mode, is vulnerable to EW, can't use instas, and you can see coming a mile away.

Yeah, I'll admit that after you guys spent about 6 hours chasing my pod over a 24 hour period, my patience was gone, and I succumbed. You lost no potential isk because of it.
This just reiterates the fact that the issue needs fixing. There are plenty of people who don't think twice about logging in a sphere to save anything. It's especially bad for freighters. How can CCP expect anybody to willingly not log out when they know it will save them, especially if they've got like 5-10 billion isk worth of stuff in their freighter?

Dropping cyno's next to a station, or just dropping them in systems that nobody goes to makes this technique 99.9% safe. Worst case scenario is you lose your cyno ship. If somebody spots your carrier and you'r not next to a station, you can just log out before they shoot you and you'll be safe. If cyno fields couldn't be dropped in dock range then there might be some merit to your point.

Bah, noone will read up anyways....
I agree with all points. However, I personally don't think that #5 is really a game breaking, or an 'important' fix. As it stands right now I think gang support mods, are not used, because compared to combat mods they are not worth fitting.
Its a shame thats the case, but it is. And I don't think the locking thing is the underlying cause, its just beter to destroy your enemy faster rather then tank him longer in most situations.

About #3, another problem is that many corps/alliances like to use this technique to refuel a pos in enemy territory. It's fairly difficult to stop this if it's close to a pos since the pos can probably destroy anything that gets in range.

Logging off needs to be adjusted in some way. People that get disconnected should not suffer for it, especially at the hands of an NPC. But players that willfully exit in order to avoid combat are abusing one of the few "friendly" features of eve.
I'd personally like to see all ships stay in space no matter what happens to their pilots. You could use the same emergency warp as now, but not let the ship disapear. It stays in space, it can be probed, therefore there is no benefit to logging out. You'll still die, it's just you won't be there to see it. ___________________________________________ The deeper you stick it in your vein, the deeper the thoughts there's no more pain. ___________________________________________ |

SOLUTION: Adapt you meatheads.
Why is it if you guys can't get an easykill in 0.0 you think its a complete unbalance. I'm willing to bet 80% of Eve doesn't even have the skills, assets, or environments to even utilize any of those "whines".
Its your own peers in 0.0 making due on what the game mechanics allow. Btw... it IS called a "CARRIER".

Exploits should be submitted via bug report. That's where they go. To report a bug, you file a bug report. To report an exploit, you file a bug report and an exploit petition. Saying on a forum that the devs can contact you for info on it doesn't work. They won't contact you because there's already a system in place for you to report this stuff to them. And god forbid anyone actually post the exploit on the forum. I don't imagine being banned is much fun.

Ah, so you're saying because we can't fly a recent addition to the game, we don't deserve to be able to play the game?

Because success in eve is based largely apon reputation. And at that a player empowered universe requires people to be responceable for thier actions (and yes the forums count)
Posting with an alt says either one of two things. Either you believe your possition so weak that you can't sand behind it with a charactor who can be regonized. Or that you know full well that there could be ramifications for posting such a thing with your main and are scared to do so.
And in regards to the latter, in a game where such things as theft scamming, murder, spieing, and all sorts of evil things are condoned, and perhaps encoraged, shouldn't players be held accountable for thier actions?

Please... if every person in here posted his/her opinion of an "out right exploit (abuse)" of some game mechanic, we'd all have a fourms of nothing but whines... wait, we already do.
Its quite obvious the OP can't kill like he used to... and that he's frustrated because others have found mechanics to avoid his "abuse". So, alt I may be, but tard I am not. Everyone has their own play style, I could care less about the OPs or your way of life. However, neither you nor him can accept anyone elses. We don't support logging out to escape death, and we don't support the abuse of game mechanics. When you are in the business of pirating, you have every single logout/exploit/trick in the book used against you on a daily basis, sometimes we *****. Honourable players shouldn't be the only ones without any isk. Nevertheless, you'd be hard pressed to find more than a handful of corps in eve that use less game abusing tactics than us.

I'd be genuinely shocked if nobody else has filed this. But I'll go ahead and file it tonight. Either myself or somebody in my corp has filed repeated bug reports for items 1-3, and NOTHING has been said or done in MONTHS. Submitting bug reports is like giving money to charities, it rarely gets to the intended recipient.

That may be so, however your initial post did sound like you just noticed these bugs and issues and stood by watching them happen. And I never mentioned you used logoff tactics, just the wcs and cyno + carrier next to station invulnerability. Nonetheless, lets just drop this and I won't derail any further.

So carriers should hold more the freighters and BOTH should be 99.9% immune to anything bad happening along the way?
I suppose you think that logging out is a FEATURE of the game. Sort of like an extra low slot right?

I think it's safe to say that the more bug reports that are received on the same issue, the more priority it will be given, so just take the time to fill one out..

Apology accepted. But I never said that I thought there needed to be any fixing done to cyno next to the station or stabs. Both are well within game mechanics, even if they could use some looking into.

No surprises there. Anybody can log, its fun for the whole family. Here's an even better one. My step by step guide to hauling stuff SOLO in 0.0 in a freighter.
1). Jump in. 2) Log out, escape any campers. 3) log in. 4) log out while loading 5) log in again 6) smack the campers 7) insta to next gate with scanner open. If any bubbles or interdicter spheres appear on scanner, log out before coming out of warp. 8) log in, 9) log out 10) log in again 11) smack the lame campers until they give up. Rinse Repeat.

I'll give you a free hint.
Using out of game methods, that have a direct effect on your charactor ingame, to ensure survival is an exploit. Its a loophole in a system that was supposed to be fixed. There is, and was never indended to be a immunity button in eve. As of right now thats exactly what logging off is, and there is no other way to refer to it other then an exploit, even if its not punishable as such. You know this, I know this, its not a matter of opinion.
As for the rest. Please grow up. My play style your play style, has nothing to do with the actual discussion, untill you made it the focal point of your argument. Adding flames, that are wholely based apon a play style supported by the design of the game is pure and unabashed BS. As for posting with an alt, I'll quote someone who said it better then I did.
Quote: Also, posting with an alt demonstrates a fear of associating your opinions with your character. An in-game persona is just as important as an out-of-game persona. Football players play under their real names and suffer both the positive and negative consequences of their actions whilst playing and whilst discussing their playing. In just the same way, EVE players posting with their mains demonstrate a level of confidence in their own opinions, whilst those posting under alternate credentials ultimately produce the senseless drivel expected of such childish evasion of responsibility.
Oh I missed the ADAPT card. Tell me oh alt, knowledgable in all aspects of the game. How do you adapt and kill a ship that can not be locked? You better come up with something other wise you'll look like a fool for posting such non-sence.

I understand that CCP needs to protect people when they log out for various reasons. However, it is ridiculous that you can completely avoid a gatecamp just by logging off...
Sure it's not your fault if your connection dies on you, but 90% of the people out there aren't losing connections. They are purposely logging and something should be done by CCP.

The carrier issue is pretty severe, tbh. The Guerrilla POS come to mind. The ability to just drop a few POS along the hauling routes and supply them on the fly with one carrier which can carry a month's worth of fuel...kinda removes a lot of the risk.
So you can't put a resource choke on the POS anymore and if you want to get rid of the said POS you gotta do a full frontal assault which is frankly a huge pain in the ass. So we're moving back to square one to the situation CCP looked to avoid by ramping up the control tower prices. Namely POS wars. Invulnerable supply lines are a complete disaster balance wise.

If someone logs or looses connection while he's still cloaked after a gate, the cloak should break and he should start to align and warp out. He should be targetable during this, so if he gets scrambled and killed during this, then he would have been killed anyway, also without the connection loss. If there is an interdictor bubble, he shouldn't warp out of course.
I don't see the problem. If you are going to die anyway, it's pointless if you have a connection loss or not. Let the guy decloak immediately and automatically try to warp out. If we can scramble him and he dies and then it's no different as if he didn't have a connection loss, tries to warp out manually and gets scrambeled and killed. Then nobody would log after a gate, because it would make no difference ( except to safe his pod maybe ) ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

I lose connection all the time, very bad ISP's in my country, lots of ships lost due to not warping out even while on ams, is that suppose to be my fault as well?

Your point isn't relevant. If you were going to jump into a system or warp to a gate that had a interdiction sphere on it and you were alone you should die regardless of whether or not you crash. If you jumped in with a group then your chances of dying should only be a little bit worse than thye would have been when you were logged out. Either your side wins the fight and you live(unless you were called primary) or your side loses and you die (unless your ship wasn't aggro'd in 30 seconds. People who log out/crash shouldn't have a better chance of survival than they did if they had stayed logged in.

Logging out is, and always will be lame. No arguments there. I do think though, that having an interdictor able to drop out a sphere and jump immediately (or log) is also pretty lame. I dislike both logging in/to avoid combat, or just the 'safespot and log' if there's hostiles in local.
Carriers, is your objection to the capacity, or to the fact that jumpdrives are used for logistics?
I don't think that carriers full of skiffs full of cans is an intended use of game mechanics.
But I also don't see a problem with using jumpdrives for logistics. They take a fair amount of effort to arrange, with jump points, fuel costs and training.
Personally I think that a 'jumpdrive hauler' is needed, rather than carriers or dreads, but that's just because I dislike seeing 'combat' ships used for that role. Dreads have what, 60k or so cargo space? They're not _quite_ as good at the job as a carrier, but ... -- We are recruiting

Without opening the can of worms that is 2-4, there are some very easy ways to fix logout while cloaked.
Obviously you can't turn a bubble into direct aggression (because that would decloak people, possibly while still loading and make fleet battles problematic (you'd have to have very good coordination of jump times and load speeds to all come through, and therefore decloak, simultaneously)). If I'm speculating correctly, this is hte balance that has given rise to the fact that emergency warp overcomes bubbles, because the bubble doesn't affect them until they're decloaked, but their already in the second stage of warp by the time they do.
So the problem is finding a balance between the good mechanism of a limited cloak time, and the bad mechanism of instant emergency warp. If we dont like the idea of proper alignment (say to the nearest celestial body at 1000km or something), then CCP could simply incorporate a few millisecond alignment time for emergency warps -- if they're not inside a bubble they'll emergency warp before any human being could click, let alone target, their ship, and if they are inside the bubble, presumably the bubble will hit them in the instant that it takes to align. They're then caught, unable to warp, and you have 30 seconds to target and aggress them (if I understand the mechanics correctly, which I probably don't).

I've seen the cloaked log-off exploit work for BSs too. Any ship that can survive a minute (with no modules running) can do it to get through any gate safe.
And Interdictor spheres have worse problems than that - they don't interupt warping, just stop it starting, so that sniper with 7 WCS can just click 'warp' while you're locking him. Doesn't matter if he spends the next 30 secs aligning inside the sphere, he'll still warp off.

They are caled carriers because they CARRY FIGHTERS. Wet water navies also use them as the fleet logistics ships because they can hold lots of stuff.
Reguarding the whole using carriers as very expensive freighters. I personaly don't see it as a problem, becuase of the risk reward thing. yes, they are almost invulnerable, but if you do manage to catch one, damn that hasto hurt the pocketbook. The risk is huge, just not very likely to come to pass.

Bumping up POS prices is NOT a solution, for a small corp and new players a small mining pos is a big investment and frankly putting the prices up simply makes no differences in the long run. So many of the big corps and alliances have so much cash and income it wouldnt make a damned difference making the price X10.
Money is not the solution, starting to ban people for using exploits and actually FIXING them is. The whole carrier becoming an uber transport thing is lame as hell now. Frieghters are also less and less used now outside of empire.
Seriously stop letting the game benefit those who are at the top with even more and more cash and easier ways to make it, frankly as it is the small guy and corps have to work for their cash and supply lines, wheras those who've got the cash can just keep making sickening ammounts of it with all this crap.

and make interdictor spheres actually catch the ones who "log off" while cloaked, you be amazed how many that claims they disconnect when they see a interdictor sphere.
for the capital ship problem it is pretty easy. 1.shrink the cargo bay to more normal proportions 2.add a jump fuel cargo bay wich only can hold the fueltype that is required for that capital ship to jump.

I agree to some extend with this, but you have to consider that this has rather large consequences for balance. If you make it too easy to 'heal' other ships, it's very easy to end up with indestructible gangs and I'm not sure if that is a disirable thing.

RA used the bag of holding to evacutate their stuff from JLO station. When they did it was lagging in 1v- because of the massive DB interaction as well.

Edited by: Shamis Orzoz on 06/05/2006 23:56:30 I think that the more people know about these game breaking tactics the sooner we'll see them fixed.
So here's a bump for my thread. Maybe someday even ccp will read it.

I would rather see them fix the drones. They still don't respond at times and often forget to use the mwd when going somewhere.
Or maybe review the standing system so you can set alliances to positive or negative without having to set individual corps within the alliance. And maybe increase the number of standings you can set. It would be awesome if you could see what standings you got just by looking at the avatar in local instead of having to check it with "show info".

CCP know about 4, and they can tell when you use it. Don't. They won't be happy with you.
Overall, the reason 2-4 haven't been fixed is most likey because they require a client side patch, same as many other bugs, such as the one where you can't build a carrier inside a factory outpost. CCP never has and never will release client side patches just to fix a few select bugs, due to the QA time involved. The only exception would be duping or other such MAJOR game breaking bugs. Yeah, 3 and 4 are lame, but they're a) limited to a very small percentage of the eve population, and b) aren't going to ruin the economy or some such overnight.
As for 1, CCP will likely never change that, because it is to prevent against people getting ganked when they CTD on session change. The server can't tell the difference between an honest CTD and somebody yanking the plug from their wall, so I doubt CCP is ever going to change that.

Quote: SOLUTION: Adapt you meatheads.
Change nothing... all is fine.
Righhhhttt....so we shouldn't try to get gamebreaking bugs fixed asap? In that case lets put the bug back in that let you get a 500 damage mod and a .2 sec rate of fire on deimos blasters. I loved that one. Nothing like watching faction battleships with HUGE tanks almost poof in under 2 seconds.
Good post Shamis. Gotta agree on all points. And while Lorth does have a pertinent observation about gang mods not being usefull enough, I would tend to think that if they UI gave them a bit more useability that it would at least be a good start.

Agreed, and I really like #4.
Have locking a gang mate a Green lock and a non-gang member a red lock.
Only weapons can fire on red locks, only "healing" and assist modules can activate on green locks.
This would also serve to prevent you from boosting an enemy instead of a gang mate

those skiffs cost about 2 billion - and then if the carrier gets bumped or pwned, thats an expensive ship brother.... its fine.
You'll make enough isk to cover the skiffs and the carrier in 3 days if you run miz's 0.0 trade run, and there will be ZERO risk of you dying.
Lol, ur just bitter because it was YOUR corps trade route i stole, futhermore the reason i beat you to the sell orders everyday is because i get up in the middle of the night to create my sell orders just before DT and u lot dont have the comitment to do that. If the skiff method is removed ill just do what YOU guys do and run it in a dread with xpanders. Lol, last week you tried to tell the alliance i was at war with my location to get me run out of area, to no avail. Get some skils, stop trying to use other alliances and devs to do what you should be doing yourselves. Gutless nubs.

Yes, it would be a shame for ccp to slow you down. You make what, 2 bil a day off of #3? That's well over $100,000 USD a year if you convert it to time cards.
Futhermore, unlike some people i keep all the ISK i make, and dont have to EBAY it to feed my kids, foundless acusations like this can easily by checked on my GM's, get ur facts right sunshine.

The fact that I have to relog on average 4 times every 10 minutes whilst doing the above route due to the ships in carrier ship maintenance bug points towards a REAL AND GENUINE bug that requires attention ! REAL AND GENUINE

lol, I never contacted another alliance about you. I know there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to kill your carrier. 100% risk free.
And I never used a dread for that run. I did it the old fashioned way, with a freighter, and I haven't even logged it out to avoid combat...

Hey Altai - nothing in the op other than the infinite cargo hold is an exploit, get a clue...
