Edited by: Wrayeth on 10/05/2006 23:05:34 The video was very good, overall. The footage was excellent and more action-packed than EVE Never Fades.
However, I still find EVE Never Fades the better video for several reasons:
First, the intro. The voice just wasn't right. Moreover, it didn't seem to have the forcefulness to match its words - it sounded kind of sleepy. In addition, the intro was just too long, taking up something like a third of the vid. The next third was kind of a ramp-up, and the last third was where the vid really got going. The intro should've been, at most, one quarter of the length, and the real action at least half, IMHO.
Second, the music. I'm sorry - I just can't stand hardcore techno. The techno-pop that was used for EVE Never Fades wasn't something I'd listen to every day, but it was actually pretty good.
In any case, despite those two issues, the video was quite good. It had some really excellent camera shots. I especially liked the fleet of ravens - it added a kind of menacing, "going to war" feel. Oh, and the shots moving along the surface of the titans were excellent, as was the ragnarok wtfpwning everything with its superweapon (I still think Caldari should've gotten the ragnarok's superweapon animation, not the energy burst that they ended up with - Caldari are the missile race, after all!).

I wish it had been Hardcore Techno, that was drum 'n bass, you pop-listening peon. :P
Obv you have never experienced hardcore techno. Imagine music that makes you feel like armageddon is here and youre about to feel the wrath of god, personally, and terminally. Now add ferrets on PCP playing microscopi trumpets on a platform that vibrates like a crazed jackhammer. Multiply by 10^7. Youre about there.

Very nice graphics. The spacecraft look more detailed than they are in the game - is this the graphics refresh we're looking at? Or Maya versions? (which would also explain the motion blur) I look forward to playing the game with ships looking like THAT.
I took a look at the WMV soundtrack in Vegas. Yes it is massively crushed once the loud music kicks in, but it's not flat-topped, i.e., some heavy limiting has been used to simply crush the dynamic range of the entire video. It is possible that a show like E3 was in mind when the soundtrack was made. Videos for E3 have to have very little dynamic range, otherwise you simply can't hear the quieter bits.
Anyone who complains about the sound in EVE videos should complain about the sound in the game first. It's one of the weakest aspects of the game. There are some cool sound-effects, but the mix is terrible (some sfx play just as loud at 50km as they do at 1km whereas other sounds are correctly attenuated), several sounds end with a click (some ordnance explosions), there are plenty of pops, blurts and glitches when you're running EVE in a window and are operating other windows/applications. There are tons of other bugs, e.g. if you have "load station environment" disabled, station audio blurts out for a split-second as you undock. I could go on. The surround panning is excellent though - very smooth and low-latency. I wish the other aspects of the sound engine were as polished. |

I liked EVE Never Fades much better.
Some of what I'm gonna say may seem mean, but I just really feel like being blunt.
The music, way over synthesized and repetitive like some cheap vampire gothic c-movie. It would have fit better (maybe) with more action on the screen.
Please learn sense of scale!!! The first carrier (or was it mothership) fly-by, very nice sense of scale, and very nicely done. But the two Deimos and the dread....no sense of scale, yes we know how big it is because we play the game. But to someone taking a fresh look at it...
And why five Ravens, and then five Brutixs, and then five Prophs, and then five Cyclones, and not a mix of frigates, destroyers, cruisers, BCs and Bs's and maybe even a dread??!?
Some of the Titan fly-bys were very nice. But like Rod said put a frigate or just any ship next to it.
Showing off the graphics a big +. Showing off EVE for the new masses, I think it could have been better.
So many in game effects that EVE Never Fades did and sooo much better. I'm thinking the energy distortion from the 'Apoc firing..ohh man that was sweet!
Personally I give it a 2 out of 5.

While impressive, it felt slightly anti-climactic. Ended very suddenly it seemed to me.
Other than that, the issue of showing off the scale of the Titans was the only thing that I noticed. It was pretty good overall, definetly going down the throats of some of those blighter friends of mine who haven't made the jump from WoW. :)

Naw, really?
In all seriousness, whatever it was it was more techno than the song in EVE Never Fades, and my listening choice generally trends towards metal, so the song in the new vid was just too much for me.
EDIT: BTW, pop music sucks ass. -Wrayeth

I thought it was freaking awesome.
That being said I thought the quickly switching scenes of fittings ships, looking at the market, and whatever else at the end was unintentionally hilarious. The video was like:
1. Okay, asian guy rambling about destiny. Boooring. 2. HOLY **** BALLS TO THE WALL PVP OMG EVERTHINGS EXPLODING. 3. (two and a half seconds of "hey guys look at this other stuff in the game") 4. EVE logo.

From the album they released in 2004 called 'Driving Insane' nice album and I encourage everyone who has interest to buy a copy
*edit* Only one thing I dont like ... its the way it ends ... too sudden :( Im there watching and getting goosebumps ... and all of a sudden it stoppes --------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Aerendur Janks on 11/05/2006 03:14:58 I thought it was an excellent video. I played it many times over - very cool. Playing it at E3 with the audio cranked would definitely get people's attention - and that is probably the goal.
But I have also read that E3 will be monitoring audio levels - forcing vendors to stay below a certain decibal limits or have their power shutdown. I have also read that the dress code is in effect this year to try and curb the scantily clad booth babe craze of previous years - damn them!
Anywho... The voiceover sounds like it was done by Jeremy Irons (or someone who sounds just like him).

I liked the vid, was very good. The shots were spot on. Could not stand that voice-over though. Prefer a females voice, as it seems more 'eve-ish' to me.

I liked the Raven out of control shot.
Too bad that animation is always lost on most people. IMHO when a ship hits 0 structure you should get treated to a random amount of the out of control animation before it explodes.
Currently you go out of control at like 20% structure and when you hit 0% you go boom.
PRoposal to fix blobbing and make Charisma useful.
